The Colorado State Board of Regents is a state executive board in the Colorado state government consisting of nine elected members. The board's official website says it "is charged constitutionally with the general supervision of the university and the exclusive control and direction of all funds of and appropriations to the university, unless otherwise provided by law."[1]
Current officeholders
The nine members of the Colorado State Board of Regents are elected to six-year terms. Elections are held on a staggered basis in even-numbered years. One member is elected from the state at large, and the other eight are elected from Colorado's eight congressional districts. Prior to redistricting in 2022, two members were elected from the state at large, and the other seven were elected from Colorado's seven congressional districts.[1] The board members select among themselves a chair and vice chair.[2]
Authority
The creation and existence of the State Board of Regents are designated in the Colorado Constitution.
“ | Regents of university. There shall be nine regents of the university of Colorado who shall be elected in the manner prescribed by law for terms of six years each. Said regents shall constitute a body corporate to be known by the name and style of "The Regents of the University of Colorado". The board of regents shall select from among its members a chairman who shall conduct the meetings of the board and a vice chairman who shall assume the duties of the chairman in case of his absence.[3] | ” |
