The extent of organo-modified clay (C93A) platelets dispersion in polymer matrix and crystallization and melting behavior of iPP-based nanocomposites prepared by a single-step melt-mixing method were investigated by wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD), transmission (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). WAXD patterns revealed exfoliated structure of nanocomposites containing 1 wt% clay, and mixed intercalated/exfoliated structure at higher concentration of nanoclay. The isothermal crystallization proceeds faster in the matrix polymer (iPP/PP-g-MA) than in nanocomposite samples. The results obtained for T mo suggest that the presence of nanoclay has induced a perfection of the formed crystals. The presence of C93A particles in PP leads to increase in crystallization peak temperature implying nucleating ability of clay particles, which was more pronounced in exfoliated than in mixed intercalated/exfoliated system.

In order to contribute to better resource efficiency and industrial waste management leading to a sustainable production and consumption pattern new processes must be developed, which should be operated in such a way that waste production is reduced or avoided. Fluoride removal by precipitation generates huge amounts of a water rich sludge. Calcium fluoride is not recovered from the waste streams and it is not recycled due to the high water content and the low quality of the sludge. Crystallization process in a fluidized bed reactor (FBR) appears as an alternative technology to the conventional chemical precipitation process. In the crystallization process in a FBR silica sand is usually used as seed material, however silica is a deleterious impurity because it causes losses in the yield of HF and its content should be less than 1%. In this paper, granular calcite has been used as seed material in order to obtain synthetic calcium fluoride. According to the composition (CaF(2)>97%, SiO(2)<1%), the synthetic calcium fluoride from the crystallization process in a FBR is able to be recycled as raw material for the manufacture of hydrofluoric acid leading to a reduction of raw materials consumption. The crystallization process in a FBR to remove fluoride from industrial wastewaters contributes to an environmental friendly production, because it allows to reduce the waste production as well as to increase the recovery of materials.

In this work, we report the Rietveld refinement, microstructure, conductivity and impedance properties of Ba[Zr0.25Ti0.75]O3 ceramic synthesized by solid state reaction. This ceramic was characterized by X-ray diffraction, Rietveld refinement, scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry. Impedance spectroscopy analyses reveals a non-Debye relaxation phenomenon being its relaxation frequency moving toward to positive side with increase of temperature. A significant shift in impedance loss peaks toward higher frequency side indicates conduction in material and favoring the long range motion of mobile charge carriers. The frequency dependent ac conductivity at different temperatures indicates that the conduction process is thermally activated. The variation of dc conductivity exhibited a negative temperature coefficient of resistance behavior. The ac conductivity data are used to evaluate the density of states at Fermi level and activation energy of this ceramic. The so-called turbostatic structure of carbons in coal with randomly oriented stacking of the lamellae (graphene) produces intense peaks, which are the dominant features in its X-ray diffraction profiles. The diffractogram may be conveniently divided into two regions of reciprocal space, the medium S region (1 < S < 3 Å) and a high S region (S > 3 Å) where S = 4πλ −1sinθ. To better understand the molecular level structure of high sulphur Assam coal, two coal samples (Tirap-1 and Tirap-2) from Tirap colliery of Makum coalfield, Assam (India) has been interpreted in this study by using the X-ray diffraction profiles. Random layered (graphene) structural parameters of these coals were determined by using X-ray diffraction technique, which showed that the L a and L c are 64·99 Å and 22·63 Å for Tirap-2 and 55·54 Å and 23·80 Å for that of Tirap-1 coals respectively. The position of γ band was found to be at 4·34 Å and 4·13 Å for Tirap-2 and Tirap-1 coals respectively. The number of layers and average number of carbon atoms (N) per aromatic graphene were found to be 21 and 8 for both the coal samples. Proximate, ultimate and ash analysis of the two coal samples were also carried out in this investigation.

A Ni-52 at. pct Ti shape memory alloy, cold drawn to 30 pct, was annealed at 1173 K for 1 hour, water quenched, and then subjected to differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). No evidence of the premartensiticR transformation was found during either the forward or the reverse transformation. Microstructurally, it was found that the alloy possessed a relatively large volume fraction (∼0.05) of coarse second-phase brittle particles. These precipitates acted as preferential sites for martensite plate nucleation and gave rise to a “starlike” morphology. The tensile and compressive properties of the alloy in the as-received condition were also investigated. The alloy exhibited relatively good ductility (fracture strain=0.28), which was attributed to its inherent ability to relieve or delay the development of plastic instabilities through rapid strain hardening. In addition, X-ray diffraction (XRD) of deformed specimens indicated the presence of an extraintensity peak corresponding to the B2 phase (110)B2 when the alloy was plastically deformed in compression. Accordingly, it is suggested that plastic deformation induces the reverse transformation to the B2 phase in highly stressed local regions. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) of deformed martensite structures showed slip lines probably due to dislocation slip, as well as variant interpenetration. Besides, optical and scanning microscopy of regions adjacent to the fractured surfaces indicated that fine martensite plates and/or “apparent” new grains develop at regions of prior stress intensification (former crack-tip regions) during crack propagation.
