Gamma Upsilon History

It was Archons John P. Holt, Sr., and Otis B. Michael, members of Beta Delta Boulé in Charlotte, who, after years of making the four-hour round-trip commutes from Asheville to Charlotte to attend the monthly meetings, decided to investigate the possibility of chartering a boulé  closer to home. They received overwhelming support from the Beta Delta, the Southeast Region, and the Grand Boulé. After eighteen months of planning, Gamma Upsilon Boulé was set apart on June 27, 1987, with Otis B. Michael as Sire Archon. Gamma Upsilon was the sixth member boulé  chartered in North Carolina and had twenty-one inductees. Robert V. Franklin, Immediate Past Grand Sire Archon, installed the officers, and Grand Sire Archon Richard I. McKinney, presented the charter and the charge. Gamma Upsilon has had many successful social action projects. And since 1987 the boulé has hosted three North Carolina Christmas galas for the Archousai as well as the 1999 Southeast Regional Boulé.
