This group of African-American artists supported
their families by selling their artwork along
the highways of Florida, largely from the trunk
of their cars.
The dream of this group of artists is to preserve
the history of their lives and to give back
to the communities from which they came from.
Through examples of their hardwork, they strive
to teach the youth not only to become consumers,
but become entrepreneurs and productive citizens
within their communities.
On March 24, 2004, twenty-six Highwaymen
were inducted into the Florida Art Hall of Fame.
They were: Curtis Arnett, Hezekiah Baker, Al
Black, Ellis Buckner, George Buckner, Robert
Butler, Mary Ann Carroll, Johnny Daniels, Willie
Daniels, Rodney Demps, James Gibson, Alfred
