River front project at Patna, India along the river Ganga has rejuvenated the linear city of Patna, India. Patna is a historic city having lived for more than two thousand years. The city has grown linearly on the bank of Ganga. Like other cities of India, it faces the problem of pollution, congestion and lack of public open spaces and recreation spaces. After the completion of River front project, this city has got a new life. Once neglected and treated as back yard of city, it has opened up for the residents and has added new avenues of urban open spaces. It has added the recreation space to the city and the happiness index of the city will certainly rise. This paper examines the positive aspects of River front development in the city and how the residents have reacted to it.

In this paper, users satisfaction in public housing has been evaluated, based on certain parameters for the city of Lucknow, India. The study was conducted to address the resident's satisfaction level living in public housing. The research examines the relationship between resident's satisfaction on two prime factors namely, the physical characteristic of the dwelling unit allotted, and the public facilities provided within the public housing estate. To estimate the satisfaction level among the residents in three categories of the housing scheme, a detailed household questionnaire survey was carried out. The sample size was decided considering the data saturation criteria during the survey. A collective method approach with four supportive methods, a literature study, household survey, data assessment and comparative policy review was taken up to assess the resident's satisfaction. The analysis was conducted at the household level to understand how differently individual family respond for their needs and services provided based on the fourpoint Likert scale and mean satisfaction index. This study indicates significant importance of post-occupancy resident's satisfaction feedback as a tool to upgrade the standard of living and sense of well-being among the residents of public housing. The finding could assist the development of future housing policy response to resident's satisfaction; also have broader policy implication for urban poor. The study infers the need for policymakers of future housing programs to consider the resident's satisfaction as a criterion in the shelter policies. This paper is worthy of attention to fill the existing gaps and contribute to future housing policies

India is most populated country after China and where 70% of population is living in rural area which is primarily agrarian where housing affordability is problem for provision of adequate housing for all. Vernacular Rural Building is based on low investment and high maintenance where monetary transactions are minimal and high maintenance work creates regular employment for all. This is one of the important factors of economic sustainability of community. House-building in rural India is a culturally sensitive and highly ritualized process. It is a social event that involves many specialised castes, and which consolidates the ties & social relationship among neighbors. India is a huge country with so many climatic zones, with so many different people with different customs and lifestyle. Vernacular Indian housing is able to cope up with hot summer sun in Rajasthan to heavy rainfall and potential earthquakes and ground shaking in Assam to cold regions of Ladak. Modern constructions contribute to the environmental crisis through resource depletion, energy consumption, air pollution, climate change and creation of waste. Land, Water and Climate are three essential prerequisites for any agricultural production system. Modern construction methods have bad impact on agriculture product which is backbone of rural economy. In this context, the relevance of vernacular architecture is very much essential for developing countries like India. Vernacular architecture is not seen as a style, but as a system of knowledge. Due attention needs to be given by the present day planners, architects and designers so that the architecture is suitable for the climate, social and cultural aspects as well as sustainable development. Design and planning must consider sustainability (saving our mother earth) and social responsibility (saving the community) as inseparable

India is a federal country with three tier governance at Central, State and Local level. Representation of women in Central and State Governance is very poor. At local level in the state of Bihar the representation of women is secured by way of reservation. This representation of women is the pseudo indicator of women empowerment but it establishes a sense of pride among the women community. The state of Bihar in India is among the poorest state in terms of GDP and other social indicator. Bihar state has made constitutional provision for reservation of women community for various position at urban and local level. This paper examines the various reservation for women at local governance in the state of Bihar.

Construction of building and infrastructure development is a part of great civilizations throughout the different time of development. The great examples of buildings such as great pyramid, Great Wall of China and many more ancient structures of historical importance, all are examples of marvellous Architecture. The basic part of completion of these buildings are design, execution and closure. Design is the foremost and important whereas the execution is the most important in order to complete the project in timely manner and with quality. There is certainly some excellent quality and construction management methodology was adopted during those time and someone is present there to manage the resources and time scheduling. In present time there are various mathematical tools and techniques are being used such as Bar chart, CPM, PERT etc. in construction project management to handle the construction projects. Various standalone and web-based packages are also in practice to handle the...

Mobility of people has significantly increased. Daily and occasional trips consume a significant time in our whole life span. A comfortable and safe travel is prime need of any individual. Noise is an important parameter which defines the quality of life. Vehicular noise not only affects the outer environment of the vehicle but it also causes discomfort for the occupants travelling inside the vehicle. Noise reduction during journey is an important aspect for a comfortable travel. We are constantly exposed to various types of noise generated from vibrations. These vibrations produce longitudinal waves which are intercepted by our ear. Sensitivity of our auditory system depends on various factors, and age of individual is an important parameter. Apart from this the exposure of noise during lifetime is important criteria for long term auditory functions. Exposure of noise during travel is gaining significant importance as it decides our comfort level, and sleep duration. In this paper we examine the noise pressure level (dBA) during travel through filed data collection. The trips discussed are on road, rail and air.

A street is a strategic location that is easily accessible from many points, has a well-connected pedestrian path, and is serviced by a variety of transportation options. Physical characteristics utilised for a street environment can be defined by buildings, building designs, locations, landscape components, trees, and street furnishings. Environmental comfort, seating, physical artefacts, sidewalk width, attractiveness and interest in look, and a sense of safety are elements that contribute to a vibrant street. A street's identity and character can be defined by the physical element, activity, and significance of a place, as well as the people who contribute to its comfort, vitality, diversity, trade, and accessibility, all affect how people see it. A certain view and unique buildings and non-building elements makes the street recognizable. The presence of various buildings, landmarks and sidewalks makes the street oriented. This paper aims to develop a predictive model that will predict the change in parameters in the built fabric of the identified project area, which is an ancient street, Ashok Rajpath in Patna, near Patna University Campus, with the introduction of TOD model. The objectives include, to design a visually pleasing and sustainable street using the 5 identified urban design principles and developing a predictive model by studying the current scenario of the identified project area, analysing the street and by applying the urban design principles.

This paper investigates the pattern of land utilisation in Bihar, India using land use and land cover (LULC) data from India's geo-portal 'Bhuvan' which provides semi-classified satellite imagery from Indian earth observation satellites. Bihar shows poor performance in several development indices. Major part of the state's geographic area is under 'Agriculture' LULC class and about 7% area is covered with 'Built-up' class. Analysis of LULC map presents the status and trend of coverage as well as utilisation of geographical area. Thematic maps prepared using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) identify the spatial pattern of distribution of LULC data. Per capita area of 'Built-up' and 'Urban Built-up' land cover classes relates to the urbanisation rate of the whole state, i.e. 11.3% for year 2011.

The roots of architecture as a career embedded in the field of arts and sciences. The primary focus of the architectural profession's operational realm is the construction of structures that are meant to be a blend of aesthetics, technology, and the humanities.Buildings are constructed to be as efficient as possible in addition to giving end users a comfortable environment inside. Along with being trash producers, buildings are recognised to be significant energy and resource consumers. Architectural education is experiencing many difficulties due to the rapid growth of institutions, including problems with the quality of instruction provided, the lack of qualified faculty, the proliferation of institutions engaged in architecture, increasing disparity between learning and employment, the difficulties of globalisation and privatization, and the evolution of the architectural language.innovative building materials, construction technology, and architectural education norms and standards, in addition to the regulatory agencies' role The study makes an effort to establish methods and pinpoint best worldwide practises that would aid in creating architecture education more targeted, more quantative and qualitative, more Collaborative, more efficient, and culturally relevant. By supplying qualified professionals to construct a new demand of built environment that is economical, time effective, furthermore it increases user productivity and health in addition to creating buildings that are least energy consumers and advocates of local and global sustainability, it would aid in and promote profession.

Commercial activities are considered to be a very important part of urbanization process due to their economic role and importance in the social reproduction. The production of retail development is seen as a part of general urbanization process. In India, retailer select retail location on the basis of location attractiveness which is directly related to urbanization level and imageability of that location. This paper is aiming to conceptualize and empirically calculate the urbanization level of intraurban node of city based five identified parameters: Land Value, Accessibility, Urban infrastructure, Population Growth, Land Availability to find the retail attractiveness of urban nodes. The imageability of intra urban nodes also attract the customer to come again and again to this particular node for shopping. The imageability perception of customer is analysis by the primary survey of customer shopping at that node. The retail attractiveness of the intra urban node is calculated by the urbanization level and imageability of intra urban node and compared with the footfall of intra urban nod The calculated footfall (market share) is compared with e. observed footfall by unobtrusive observation.

Slums are universally perceived as an impediment and the worst place to live in; though, its inhabitants consider these slums as a solution to their problems of housing, basic amenities and livelihood in urban areas. Government initiatives to facilitate better housing grants security of tenancy to slum dwellers transited to resettlement colonies and apparently seen a rise in the status of their livings, both in relative and absolute terms. But relatively better housing has failed to bring about substantial change in the livelihood of urban poor who face displacement from their place of employment. The author examines the impact of resettlement with a single case study Ahibaranpurwa slum rehabilitated in the public housing colony of Lucknow with a specificity of the local and global context. While the continuous pressure on the government is to tackle the fastest growing slum population living in deteriorated physical and environmental conditions to resettlement colonies, the casualization on allocating location of such colonies had led to the marginalization of the poor residing in the resettlement colony. The paper closes with an analysis of factors which seems to pull down livelihood opportunity of urban poor in rehabilitated colonies of urban areas.
