Sports leagues have 4.8 billion reasons to review how they distribute out-of-market broadcasts after the judgement against the NFL in the “Sunday Ticket” case in U.S. District Court. Christine Bartholomew, vice dean and professor in the University of Buffalo’s School of Law, says other leagues are going to have to “take a close look at their model and make sure that the means by which they’re providing consumer choice really does ensure true choice.” A jury decided Thursday that the NFL violated antitrust laws in distributing Sunday afternoon games not aired locally on Fox or CBS on a premium subscription service that only had one distributor.

New York Yankees outfielder Juan Soto was scratched from the lineup because of a bruised right hand about 20 minutes before Saturday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays. Oswaldo Cabrera started in right field for Soto, who is batting .302 with 20 home runs and 60 RBIs. Soto was injured sliding into home plate in the fourth inning of Friday’s 16-5 win, one of three runs he scored in New York’s highest-scoring game of the season. Soto was wearing a protective mitten on his hand when he scored the Yankees’ first run.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have activated ace Zac Gallen from the injured list to start their game against the Oakland Athletics. Gallen had been sidelined since being diagnosed with a right hamstring strain on May 30. The right-hander enters Saturday with a 5-4 record and a 3.12 ERA. Arizona optioned lefty Brandon Hughes to Triple-A Reno.

Blue Jays closer Jordan Romano has been shut down because of continued pain in his injured right elbow. Manager John Schneider said Saturday that the two-time All-Star will visit Dr. Keith Meister in Texas on Tuesday. Romano missed part of spring training and the first 17 games of the regular season because of elbow soreness. He went on the injured list for a second time June 1, retroactive to May 30. Romano is 1-2 with a 6.59 ERA and eight saves in nine chances this season, his sixth. He matched his career high with 36 saves last year.

The Cleveland Guardians signed free agent left-hander Matthew Boyd to a major league contract for the remainder of the season. The addition will give the AL Central leaders some added pitching depth and protection when Boyd becomes healthy enough to play. He is still recovering from Tommy John elbow surgery last year. He won’t be ready to join the Guardians until at least August. The AL Central leaders are likely to add more starting pitching by the trading deadline. Before then, the Guardians will get a boost with Gavin Williams set to join the rotation after being sidelined with an elbow injury sustained in spring training.

Move over, Baha Men, and step aside, Timmy Trumpet. Here comes Candelita — aka, New York Mets infielder Jose Iglesias. The tradition of musicians appearing at Mets games and performing songs associated with the team took a unique turn Friday night, when Iglesias sang his song “OMG” at Citi Field following a 7-2 win over the Houston Astros. Iglesias was accompanied by dancers for more than a minute before teammates spilled onto the infield and surrounded him, raising their arms at the “Oh my God!” chorus. Iglesias said singing in front of great fans and seeing teammates joining him was a dream come true.
