Millersville University Students for Justice in Palestine and supporters gathered in front of the campus Student Memorial Center Friday to protest the war in Gaza and to call on the state university to make a statement asking for a humanitarian ceasefire as well.

Nearly 50 students, faculty and community organizers gathered while a few administrators and representatives from the MU police department monitored the event. A community member, one student and a university dean stood in solidarity with Israel. Janet Kacskos, MU spokesperson, said Friday afternoon that the university doesn’t contribute any funds to either Palestinians or Israel and that the university doesn’t plan to issue a statement in response to the protest.

Other colleges in the area, including Elizabethtown College, Franklin & Marshall College, Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology, the Pennsylvania College of Art & Design and the Lancaster campus of St. Joseph’s University haven't had any protests over the war in Gaza as of Friday. However, the president of the Coalition for Peace & Justice at F&M spoke at MU’s protest and told a reporter that the group held a Palestinian Solidarity Week from March 24 to 30.
