The outlook for 2022 also looks to be promising. According to a report today noted by Goldman Sachs, De Beers implemented one of its most aggressive diamond price increases in recent years owing to the recent

Commenting on the outlook Petra said that gross production guidance of between 3.3 million and 3.6 million carats would be met. Petra also said that discussions with its South African lenders around the possible refinancing of the first lien debt continued in the second quarter intending to conclude the discussions in the third quarter of this year.

Farmer and Former Landboudal pupil drives transformation JACOBSDAL | LEBOHANG TLABA Zabion de Wee, a former pupil at Landboudal High School pupil in Jacobsdal, was born with the agriculture bug. Having grown up in the farming surrounds of Trompsburg in the Free State, De Wee’s recent appointment as new business development manager at John Deere has given him the perfect platform to drive the kind of change he wants to see. “I come from a very small place [where] you are surrounded by a farming community. Growing up, for me, that’s what [I] looked forward to becoming one day. The passion for agriculture started early.” Luckily for De Wee, his

mother and teachers noticed his passion and aptitude for agriculture early. After primary school, they made sure to get him placed at Landboudal High School, an agricultural school in Jacobsdal where he learned a lot about the basics of farming. “As you can imagine, at Landboudal I had already started with all the agricultural subjects [like] agricultural science, practical, milking [cows] on weekends, and doing all [kinds] of agricultural activities. I went to Grootfontein where I just continued [on]. It was also very practical and very hands-on.” De Wee’s love for learning eventually saw him

obtain not only a Bachelor’s degree in agriculture from Grootfontein, but also certificates in entrepreneurship from Stellenbosch University Business School, a degree in project management, and his Master’s degree in agriculture from the University of the Free State. As John Deere’s new business development manager for Africa and the Middle East, De Wee feels perfectly placed to drive transformative change in Mzansi’s agricultural sector. He explained that the company aims to create top commercialscale black farmers. “They are giving me the tools to do that. We have a SMART

model they started in [the rest of] Africa. So, I’m taking [that], making it personal to South African conditions, and then [also] just adding on when I need to.” SMART stands for “solution, mechanization, access to finance, reliability, and training and technology.” De Wee said that he already has two SMART projects in the works and will be expanding more in 2022. John Deere has several outcomes in mind, including creating a proper mechanization guide, ensuring farmers are well-trained, ensuring farmers have access to commercial finance, and that farmers are exposed to training and technology.

INSPIRATION “Time is that fleeting moment when the future passes into the past. Grasp it. Embrace it. Make it your own”

HEUNINGDRUPPELS | WILLEM BOTHA

Álles is baie goed. Jý, ja jý, is BAIE goed! My vriend, dis omdat die Here nou nog steeds sê: Dit is báie goed!

Armed men take school keys from guards BLOEMFONTEIN | LEBOHANG TLABA According to the police, six panga-wielding men made off with a set of keys from a local school after attacking security guards on Tuesday, 18 January. Spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Thabo Covane said gunmen attacked security guards at Lourier Park Primary School in Bloemfontein. “Two security guards were on duty when one of the guards went on a patrol through the premises. It is

alleged that the one security official in the guard room heard an alarm going off and went to investigate. He was attacked by six unknown suspects carrying pangas, wearing hats and masks covering their faces. The victim was handcuffed and assaulted. A set of school keys were forcibly taken from him. Three of the suspects went to the administration block and broke a security door to

gain access. The other guard, who went on patrol, came back and fired warning shots towards the suspects and they all fled the scene,” Covane said. The Police were called to the scene and it was discovered that only the keys were taken during the robbery. The security guard was admitted to the hospital and is in stable condition. “Parkweg police are investigating a case of

business robbery. Any member of the public who might have information regarding the case can call Constable Marou Koloswa at 082 466 7255. Alternatively, the information can be submitted on MySAPS App or call Crime Stop on 08600 10111," Lieutenant-Colonel Thabo Covane concluded. “The victim was handcuffed and assaulted…”

Census 2022 - first digital population count NATIONAL | LEBOHANG TLABA The next population and housing census, Census 2022, is scheduled to start from 3 February to March 2022. The Census Night will be on 2 February 2022 where fieldworkers will enumerate the homeless, the transient population, those in communal living quarters such as hotels, B&Bs, hospitals, correctional centres, old age homes, etc. A census is the total count of a population whereby all people, including children, babies, homeless people, and foreign nationals within the borders of a country, are counted. A census collects

data about a country’s socioeconomic dynamics – people’s living conditions, access to basic services, income, etc. Stats SA is mandated by the Statistics Act (Act No. 6 of 1999) to collect data for official statistics and to conduct a census. In terms of section 17 of the Act, information collected on individuals and their households remains confidential. The Act also makes it obligatory to provide data to Stats SA fieldworkers administering questionnaires for producing official statistics. Stats SA has conducted

three censuses since 1994: in 1996, 2001, and 2011. The data collected during a census is used for planning, policy formulation, and evidence-based decisionmaking. The results of a Census are also the basis for budget allocations across national, local and provincial governments. They also provide municipalities with small area data for use in their Integrated Development Plans (IDPs). According to the head of Stats SA in Limpopo, Nthambeleni Mukwevho, citizens who refuse to be counted during

Census 2022 may face up to six months imprisonment or be liable for a R10 000 fine. While the country continues to battle the effects of Covid19, Mukwevho has urged the public to register online – as the census goes online for the first time in the history of the country. Field workers will use digital devices to capture data in real-time for a reduced turnaround time, and the information gathered will outline the profile of the country’s population and its living conditions.

Man, hiérdie antie het haar eie plaas gehad. "Memories...I had a farm in Africa."

Seker so 170km.

"Maak toe!" U-draai is vir 'n Brahmaan maklik. "Bly stil. Saggies," smeek ekke. Terug by Zani wie se tong diep in Venter se keelgat wegraak. Net soos hy sy merrie roskam vir gymkhana...Oh well, sy't genoeg op Jacques om hom te laat suffer maar dis daai klein merrie wat regtig die payback van haar lewe gaan kry. explore! motoring Toyota Hilux GR Sport Revealed Toyota is always keen to point out its Dakar successes with the Hilux and this tough offroad race serves as the inspiration for the all-new Toyota Hilux GR Sport. The popular bakkie has never been slack in the offroad department, but the Toyota Hilux GR Sport is more capable. There’s an upgraded suspension system featuring monotube shock absorbers, new front springs, automatic limited-slip differential and active traction control. There are also upgrades to the vibration and noise countermeasures.

Toyota Europe has confirmed the launch of the new Hilux GR Sport. With inspiration straight from Toyota Gazoo Racing, this looks to be the sportiest Hilux to date. Toyota claims these upgrades ‘ deliver significant improvements in handling characteristics, including steering effort and steering angle response, straight-line performance, a flat ride and reassuring roll and rear grip feel.’ As far as visual changes go, the Toyota Hilux GR Sport features a black front grille with G-pattern mesh and a classic-looking Toyota emblem. There are new larger front fog light surrounds, 17-inch alloy wheels which are

black and machined and wrapped in all-terrain tyres. There is black detailing on the door mirror casings, side steps, tailgate handle and over-fenders. The shocks and springs are finished in red and there are subtle GR Sport badges. It’s more subtle than the Thai-built wild Revo Hilux shown in 2021. Inside, the cabin gains sports seats finished in black leather and synthetic suede with red perforations and contrast stitching. There’s GR Sport

branding on the seats, carpets, starter button and dashboard graphics. There are also aluminium pedals, carbon fibre-style trim and a red insert across the dashboard. Now if you’re expecting an engine upgrade, remember this is a GR Sport model, not a pure GR so the focus here is on a sportier drive and look. The current 2.8 engine offers plenty of go in any case with 150 kW and 500 Nm, paired to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. – Source: cars.co.za

GWM P Series Bakkie is a beast! Courtesy: Cars.co.za Billed as the most ambitious Chinese double-cab to date, GWM has stated its intentions to become a 'Top 3' bakkie brand with its new P Series. Design proportions are bold, and the P Series measures 5.4 metres nose-to-tail, 1.86 metres wide and stands 1.93 metres tall. This new Chinese double-cab rides on the P71 ladder-frame platform, which it shares with the Haval H9 large SUV – familiar to South Africans who are followers of the Chinese brand.

The cabin architecture is impressive for a Chinese vehicle with a large touchscreen infotainment system and passenger vehicle-like ergonomics. Mechanically, the P Series is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol which drives all four wheels via an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine boosts 140 kW and 360 Nm. GWM has also equipped the P Series with 3 differential locks, which should theoretically give it unrivalled offroad ability. GWM has not yet been clear as to whether the 3 differential locks will be a standard configuration or optional, as part of a dedicated off-road package. Features? Plenty. There is a surround-view camera, rear-view camera and 12 radar pods allow for lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control. All active safety interventions systems are managed by Bosch’s 9.3generation stability control. .

LIONS VS PUMAS

AGRI GHOLF 2022 THE SHARKS SECURED A NARROW WIN AGAINST THE GRIQUAS

Western Province crushed by Blue Bulls

Pumas maul toothless Lions The Pumas, Sharks and Blue Bulls were the three winners on day two of the Currie Cup on Wednesday, with the Blue Bulls thrashing Western Province in the highlight game.

Sharks 24-23 Griquas

The Sharks also had their main 23 keeping fresh for Saturday’s United Rugby Championship tilt against the Lions, but had enough strength in depth to see off the Griquas despite Lions 9-50 Pumas a red card for flanker OJ Noa. In a niggly game, the home side led 18-6 The result is perhaps misleading to when Noa was sent off for head-high casual observers; the bulk of the contact in a tackle. Sharks scrumLions team is competing in the half Cameron Wright had scored the United Rugby Championship and the only try of the first half, converted Currie Cup squad is largely youth by Jordan Chait and adding to his players and reserves drafted in. But earlier penalty, but the Griquas the lack of time together as a team could easily have been ahead had showed as several chances went Zander du Plessis had his kicking begging, not least a number of lineboots on. Sharks hooker Dan Jooste out misfires in the red zone, while scored a try and Murray Koster, on the Pumas suffered no such for Chait who had also been problem. First-half tries from Devon misfiring from the tee, added a Williams, Daniel Maartens, and penalty before Noa’s departure. Corne Fourie had the Pumas 24-6 up From the penalty, the Griquas kicked at the break, with Tinus de Beer to the corner and drove Justin converting all three and adding a Forwood over. Sharks substitute penalty. Vaughen Isaacs replied with scrumhalf Sanele Nohamba landed two penalties for the Lions. Isaacs two well-taken penalties, added three more, but the rest of the sandwiching one from Du Plessis, game belonged to the Pumas, who but the second Nohamba penalty became a little ragged themselves in took the Sharks 24-16 clear and left the final quarter, but tries from De the Griquas with just too much to Beer, Simon Raw, Michael Claassens do. Western Province 21-40 Blue Bulls Not a match for the locals to enjoy as the Blue Bulls obliterated their old rivals at DHL Stadium. The scoreline speaks for itself and there was more than a little disquiet among the locals during the second half, with Western Province 40-0 down at one stage. The Blue Bulls were 28-0 to the good at the break, with tries from James Verity-Amm, Canan Moodi, Muller Uys and Cyle Brink, all converted by Morne Steyn. It continued in the same fashion in the second half, with Bismarck du Plessis scoring his first Currie Cup try in 13 years and Marco Jansen van Vuren also dotting down before the visitors eased off a bit. Nama Xaba finally got Western Province on the board after 65 minutes and late tries from Tristan Leyds and Marcel Theunissen added another shred of respectability to the scoreline, while the Blue Bulls’ night was soured a bit by a red card for replacement front-rower Jan-Hendrik Wessels.
