Ashram Closed Bali Officials Including Bali’s Governor Reported To Human Rights Commission Bali Governor, I Wayan Koster, along with other officials, has been accused of hindering worshiping activities by he International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), prompting the organization to file a human rights violation report with the Indonesian National Commission for Human Rights (Komnas HAM). The Bali House of Representatives (DPRD) issued a recommendation to disband ISKCON, also commonly known as “Hare Krishna” in case of a disruption of the public order back in October last year after receiving a number of complaints from the Balinese society. According to the

DPRD several Hare Krishna activities were not in accordance with Hindu religious culture and have disturbed the community. Earlier this year in April, the Krishna Balaram Ashram in Denpasar was closed and prohibited from carrying out its activities following a decision made by the Indonesian Parisada Hindu Dharma Association (PHDI) and Bali’s Majelis Desa Adat (MDA), the traditional village council in December last year. “We were told that we defied the Bali Dresta (traditional Balinese code). But we are all Balinese. Our ancestors are Balinese. Our teacher, who is

also our chairman is Balinese,” ISKCON Indonesia’s secretary general, Putu Wijaya told the press. A representative of ISKCON’s legal team, Dewa Krisna Prasada, also claimed that the organization has been persecuted by the local village authorities and other mass organizations, who entered their holy spaces with force and insulted a figure ISKCON regarded as holy.

It Ain't Over Indonesia Records Nearly 10,000 New COVID-19 Infections On A Single Day After the number of new COVID-19 cases in Indonesia has dropped to a more or less moderate level of 4,000 to 6,000 per day the numbers have increased again since the Eid al-Fitr holiday season at the end of Ramadan when millions of Indonesians blatantly ignored the nationwide travel ban and insisted to travel to their home villages to spend time with their families and friends. Since last week the number of daily new COVID-19 cases

across the nation has returned to the levels we have seen at the end of February right after the spike caused by the travel wave during the Christmas and New Year holiday. during the Eid al-Fitr holiday. On Sunday June 13 the number of new COVID-19 infections in the country reached 9,868 which is the biggest daily increase since February 22 and, according to the national COVID-19 Task Force, clearly related to the increased travel activities

On Monday June 14 the 7 day average of new COVID-19 cases nationwide has exceeded 8,000 for the first time since months clearly indicating that the pandemic in the country is far from being over.

News Compressed A Short Run-Down Of Stuff That Didn't Make It Into a Full Article Beside all that COVID-19 madness and the fact that almost all news are focusing on the development of the pandemic on the island there are still other things going on. If you live or have stayed in Bali you probably had (or still have) them in your neighborhood too or you have been regularly and heavily disturbed by them in your daily routine. We are talking about all these modified motorbikes with extremely loud exhaust systems. The are literally everywhere, are mainly used by teenagers or young male adults and have been objects of contention for a long time. But this might end soon as the Bali police is taking strict measures against these noisy exhaust systems now. According to the

press all motorbike workshops in the Badung regency, one of the areas where this problem went out of hand over the last years, have been instructed not to modify motorbikes with loud exhaust systems any more or to face legal consequences. On top of these instructions the Head of the Badung Traffic Police, AKP Aan Saputra, tols reporters that motorists who insist to use these exhaust systems may have their motorbikes sized by the police. A number of resident of a village of in Gianyar’s Tegalalang Sub-District have made it to the headlines after complaining about the stench of the

waste in the sewers inside their village. Funny enough this is a 100% homemade problem and the villagers are actually complaining about the smell of their own waste as confirmed by a village official. It seems that the villagers are constantly (and illegally) dumping their household waste in the sewers right in front of their house. This waste was usually washed away by the water in the sewer and became a problem somewhere else. But now, due to the construction of a new drainage system the water flow in the village sewers has been blocked. One would assume that the villagers would now stop throwing their rubbish in these sewers but no, they simply continue with their old habits. Now the sewers are full of rotting household waste and the resulting stench prompted the villagers to file a complaint with the authorities. Public prosecutors at the Denpasar District Court have demanded a 20 year jail term for the Indonesian man who murdered his 29-year-old Slovak girlfriend in her villa in Sanur back in January this year after she ended her relationship with him due to his alcohol problems about a month before the incident. The man, identified as LP reportedly went to her house to apologize for his mistakes but brought a knife with him, a fact that is now leading the prosecutors to charge him with premeditated murder which is punishable with a minimum 20 years in jail and with the death sentence as a maximum punishment under the Indonesian Criminal Code. A 50-year old Indonesian man was found dead in his hotel room in Kuta on Thursday last week when the hotel staff tried to remind him that he missed his checkout time. According to the Head of the Denpasar Public Relation Police Officer, Iptu I Ketut Sukadi, several prescription drugs were found in the man’s room leading the police to believe that he has died of illness. United Again Superman is Dead Drummer Jerinx Finally Released From Jail After 10 Months Bali’s and probably Indonesia’s most popular Punk Rock band “Superman is Dead” has been united with their drummer, I Gede Aryastina commonly known as Jerinx, again after the latter has been released from jail on Tuesday morning last week. He was reportedly picked up at Kerobokan prison by his wife, Nora Alexandra, his father I Wayan Arjono and his two Superman is Dead band-mates, Bobby Cool and Eka Rock. As expected Jerinx refused to give any kind of statement to the waiting press. His lawyer, I Wayan ‘Gendo’ Suardana, told the reporters that his client might hold a press conference later but until now we haven't heard anything. Jerinx was initially sentenced to 14 month in jail after a controversial Instagram post earlier last year in which he criticized the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) and accused them of being “flunkeys” to the World Health Organization (WHO) which ended in a police report made by IDI and Jerinx’s imprisonment for “hate speech”. His sentence was finally reduced to 10 months following an appeal. The 43year-old musician has been detained since August last year. Confused, the old man wrote another note to his son telling him what happened, and asking him what to do next. His son's reply was: "Now plant your potatoes, Dad. It's the best I could do from here."
