SA NFL – WHEELCHAIR FOOTBALL Wheelchair Football is an exciting adaptive version of Australian Rules Football where mixed teams of five take the court. Players with and without disability are encouraged to play in this inclusive game. Clubs recently expanded to include reserves competition to ensure no one misses out on being able to play. As well as introduced a points classification system so the competition remain as fair and inclusive as possible. It ranks players based on their function level and then teams can only have a limited number of ‘points’ on court.

PARA – TABLE TENNIS Table Tennis is a sport for all. Para-table tennis programs have gained significant momentum, providing a platform for individuals with physical disabilities to engage actively in the sport. These programs focus on fostering inclusivity and creating an environment where athletes of all abilities can thrive. Para-table tennis provides participants with physical fitness, mental well-being, and social integration among individuals with disabilities.

Wheelchair Auskick Centre In 2023, the first ever Wheelchair Auskick Centre was launched in SA. Sessions were held on Saturday mornings at NovitaTech and plans are underway for the 2024 program. Sessions are for kids with disability aged 5-14yrs. Siblings also welcome to join.

One notable initiative in South Australia is the collaborative effort between local table tennis clubs, disability support groups, and government bodies to establish dedicated Para-table tennis training clubs. These clubs offer specialised coaching, and tailored training regimens to cater to the unique needs of Paraathletes. The programs not only aim to develop high-performance athletes but also emphasise the broader benefits of sports participation, such as improved coordination, enhanced selfesteem, and a sense of belonging within the community. With a commitment to accessibility and equal opportunity, these Para-table tennis programs in South Australia play a pivotal role in breaking down barriers and creating a more inclusive sporting landscape for individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities.
