PUBLISHER’S NOTE

It all started in 1993 as The Hotel Guide of San Antonio. This cool, little publication was direct-mailed to thousands of travel agents, meeting planners, national tour operators and relocation centers.

The idea was simple...target the traveler BEFORE they ventured to the Alamo City. Well, 30 years later, the same unique selling point applies.

Our goal is to introduce our readers to some of the top hotels/resorts, destinations, wellness venues, culinary escapes and starting next issue - our Relocation section rebirth.

The list is too long with regards to who to thank. It’s not often a business, much less a publication, stands the test of time and eclipses 30 years.

From San Antonio, to Austin and now the world, we are honored to bring you our award-winning style, content and more.

So, what’s in store for our anniversary year? Well,

lot’s actually. You will see our distribution expand. You will notice us add our Cruises section back and begin to showcase some of the top places to live, not just visit in our Relocation section.

Additionally, our Travel Talk podcast will expand with a variety of new guests and a consistency too. Bottom line, we will evolve and continue to get better and produce a digital travel/relocation platform you can be proud of.

Cheers to another 30 years! From our family to yours, thank you for supporting us through this journey. I promise you, the best is yet to come.

Travel. Make Memories.

ACQUALINA RESORT & RESIDENCES

a revitalized lifestyle experience

cqualina Resort & Residences, located in Miami’s Sunny Isles Beach and recognized for providing great living and lifestyle experiences, unveils a glamorous refresh of the Mediterranean villa-style resort. From a newly transformed gallery lobby, decadent new adult pool experience, AcquaMarine kids club, luxurious rooms and suites, and restaurants, Acqualina’s enhancements offer glamour, style, and timeless beauty.

“Acqualina is a brand that continuously looks for ways to improve and implement new services and amenities for our customers to enjoy, from design and activities to dining experiences, said Deborah Yager Fleming, CEO and Partner. “This differentiates us, coupled with our friendly and heartfelt service.”

From every vantage point and from every angle, owners Jules and Stephanie Trump with Yager Fleming and Isabel Tragash and her team from STA Architectural Group have

slowly and carefully selected beautiful, rare, and specially curated elements to create a home like no other for Acqualina guests and residents.

Newly Transformed Gallery Lobby

The vision for Acqualina Resort’s new lobby spaces is one of refreshed luxury and contemporary grandeur. The fresh color palette influenced by the emerald green waters of the Atlantic Ocean brings to life the architectural features that were enhanced and highlighted with varying shades of whites and strong punctuations of lustrous black millwork. In the warm gallery living room-style gathering space, the furniture features contemporary Fendi Casa selections. Additional striking details feature bespoke rugs handcrafted in Nepal, Brazilian marble, sumptuous velvet chenille fabrics, and highlights of smoke glass and metallic accents.

Luxurious Bathrooms, Guestrooms & Suites

All bathrooms in 98 guestrooms and suites were given

lustrous makeovers with Italian marble floors, separate glass-enclosed showers surrounded by custom, white textured wallpaper, LED-lit Italian sconces, wall-to-wall Molteni vanities in the suites, new plush bathrobes, ESPA bath and Lady Primrose after-sun products and either Baci counter or Nameeks wall-mounted makeup mirrors.

“Our DNA is classic furnishings with modern elements,” says Yager Fleming. “The bathrooms adhere to this philosophy with curated finishes that are either custom-made or from high-end designers that manufacture everything for us,” she says, while describing the White Vena Oro marble vanities as “fresh and translucent, brightening the entire bathroom space.” New Boca Terry white robes and white slippers complete the luxurious experience.

Every bed has new, soft-as-silk linens, including a duvet cover with champagne trim and Euro shams with Acqualina’s signature A. Acqualina collaborated with Ideal Casa’s Virgilio Mariano to customize furniture for continuity and Italian elegance.

From the sophisticated, yet practical, Italian-made Miami Sofa Bed with its hidden opening mechanism, to glass-topped bronze metal end tables and dining table with a leather-stitched column, solid wood Tub chairs and curved oak bar stools, every new suite addition is elegant, comfortable and timeless.

Even the suites’ luxurious suspender lounge chairs were commissioned by RGS Europe and made in Spain. In addition, suite kitchens were created for glamorous evenings in, with elegant Lapitec Stone Bianco Vittoria kitchen counters, LED high-hats and Everest chandeliers.

The Guest Room Arrival Experience

“We wanted our guests to feel as though they have entered their own private foyer area as soon as they step off the elevator,” says Yager Fleming. “We selected a bronzetoned carpet with black accents to tie into our beautiful zebrawood furniture pieces, and then a Luna custom wallpaper that artistically suggests ocean waves breaking.”

New Adult Pool Experience

The ocean view Adult Pool has been enhanced with signature red loveseats, custom daybeds, and modern chaise lounges to create a sophisticated vibe. Four crimson cabanas take the alfresco experience to new heights for daytime luxury. The opulent sanctuaries are bastions of comfort with elegant lounge seating, backgammon-set tables, refrigerator, television, privacy curtains, fans, beverages, international cheeses and tropical fruits, signature Acqualina hats, Hampton Sun products, and so much more.

Il Mulino New York

Acqualina’s venerable Il Mulino New York, a classic South Florida gathering place, was elevated with soft white paint, applied in layers for texture and vibrancy, while black and white photos of Italy replaced heavy tapestries. Weighty wall sconces were exchanged for light, elegant chandeliers with tailored shades and comfortable dining chairs were refinished in luxurious black leather that gleams against a refinished original mahogany backdrop. While it’s still recognizable to long-time Il Mulino patrons, the fresh makeover is comfortably sophisticated. For more information and reservations, visit acqualinaresort.com.

and sweeping desert canyons. Honoring the local Mexican heritage, this one-of-a-kind wellness respite offers Eastmeets-West treatments, unique immersive experiences, dedicated health coaching, a calendar of seasonal retreats, a robust Visiting Masters program curated with expert healers and daily Mindful Movement classes from Embody Yoga and Meditation to Water Spinning and COMPLETE — a signature class from THE WELL that blends strength training and yoga.

The Arrival, the welcome area of THE WELL, features two plush hanging beds wrapped in sheer ethereal linens. With the backdrop of a peaceful zen garden with lush plants and native flowers, guests will be able to take a moment to set an intention of where they want to go and release what no longer serves them — rooting themselves in the present with a tailored sensorial experience.

The Journey Begins...

Every guest’s wellness journey begins at The Bath House where guests will use rituals and the senses to attune the mind, body and spirit. The smell of local herbs to clear the mind. The vibrations of the grounding sound bowl to attune the body and spirit at a cellular level. The touch of hot and cold experiences on the body to boost the lymphatic system and awaken the mind. The taste of fresh juices full of antioxidants to nourish the body. The sight of oneself in nature and placing on the path to whole-person healing. Guests will feel rebalanced and reinvigorated after The Attunement at The Bath House.

The full wellness experience ends at The Nap Garden & Reflexology Pool. Featuring a pebbled floor to stimulate the reflex points and calm the nervous system, the Reflexology Pool allows guests to activate their senses through a self-guided therapy to further promote relaxation. As the warm sunlight filters through the lush Bougainvillea, the deluxe cozy cabanas in The Nap Garden is the perfect spot to sip on refreshing beverages from the purifying menu and experience a self-guided nap for a restful afternoon.

SIGNATURE PROGRAMS, TREATMENTS & IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCES

Bringing its tailored approach to whole-person care, THE WELL at Chileno Bay will newly introduce THE WELL Reset, a four-day program designed by its Chief Medical Officer, Frank Lipman, MD to help jumpstart guests’ journey to better health. Available year-round and launching this summer, the program begins with a consultation with a dedicated health coach who will discuss

guests’ wellness goals and preferences to help curate a personalized itinerary of custom treatments, movement programming and nutrition. Whether it’s balancing the blood sugar, enhancing detoxification or optimizing metabolic function, the results-driven program provides tools and practices to support each guest’s wellness journey during and after their stay.

THE WELL at Chileno Bay’s transformative treatment concepts marry ancient traditions with the latest scientific innovations. One of THE WELL signature treatments is The Method, a five-step advanced bodywork method that helps build a healthy body for better range of motion, increased energy, healthful aging and improved skin complexion.

In harmony with the surrounding natural landscape, THE WELL at Chileno Bay further delivers immersive experiences for an unforgettable sensation that is unlike any other. One of the signature offerings is Celestial Bathing, a spiritual therapy that layers ancient traditions with modern techniques. Guests will begin with a candlelit evening ritual, then float in the serene outdoor pool looking up at the moon and stars for a sensory biodynamic water treatment.

LIVING WELL

THE WELL at Chileno Bay has curated nine new wellness rooms, including one suite to make wellness part of one’s entire stay, featuring specialized in-room wellness essentials, well-being amenities and daily access to THE WELL. Reflecting the resort’s open-air aesthetic, the spacious rooms frame views of the ocean and tropical gardens through private terraces and floor-to-ceiling windows for idyllic Baja-style, indoor-outdoor living.

Guests’ in-room experience is elevated through a curated menu of wellness items thoughtfully placed throughout — from a light therapy mask and exfoliating mitt to affirmation cards and foot massage rollers.

With THE WELL and Auberge Resorts Collection’s partnership, guests’ sleep health is further optimized with the Better Sleep program, where they can tap into curated content, expert tips and tools developed in collaboration with Dr. Frank Lipman while pairing with the calming lavender scent of the exclusive 1 oz size of THE WELL Relax Everything Mist.

two downtown hotels shine brightly EXPERIENCING DENVER

s a Colorado native and spending the majority of my 20s as a Denverite, I remember filling my weekends with hikes in the summer and skiing in the winter. Every day seemed beautiful and surreal with the Rockies as a backdrop. Now, as a Floridian, my trips to Colorado are few and far between. When I do visit, I try to take in as much of the city as possible. During my most recent trip to Denver, I dove in, snow boots first. While Denver has so many beautiful and unique spots to explore, Downtown takes the cake on some of my favorite hotels.

The Crawford Hotel

This boutique hotel still has my jaw in a lock. The architecture is unreal (which was recently renovated about nine years ago). The lobby is something out of a 1940’s classic movie and it sits in LoDo’s historic Union Station.

High ceilings, modern touches with old history, and comfortable leather seating make it a comfortable lobby for guests and locals. It’s also surrounded by toprated restaurants, a flower shop, a coffee bar, and ice creamery.

The bones of the Crawford might be old, but the body is new. The historic renovation kept the train station’s original look- no two rooms are the same. Rooms accommodate all kinds of travelers from individuals, couples, and families. Our room was perfect for us.

I was the most comfortable bed I ever laid on and had a well-sized closet to put all of our oversized winter jackets. In addition, I have major bathroom envy as the rainfall shower was perfect after spending our days in Colorado’s winter. All details emphasized a sophisticated style. Speaking of details, let’s talk about the little things that go a long way when you are traveling. High-speed WI-FI is everything, especially for those business travelers who are always on the clock. The Crawford certainly delivered for me and helped me connect perfectly The essentials

continued as the rooms come with a Nespresso maker and Ipad that has hotel information, online room service, local restaurants, music streaming, and a ton of newspapers and magazines to check out.

Local restaurants. Because we all want to know what the best options for food are, walk a few steps out of your room and an array of dining options surround the Union Station. Not only do you get to choose from restaurants inside the station, but also surrounding the outside of the station lies some of the top restaurants in downtown Denver. As a guest at the Crawford, you can expect some pretty excellent perks. First, you get priority seating at Snooze (Snooze is a must-have for breakfast. This is a

Denver staple and is a 50-person waiting outside the door kind of good). Second, you get a free beer at the Terminal Bar which offers 30 Colorado craft beers on tap. Third, you can head to the Cooper Lounge for old-school cocktails in their romantic glamorous surroundings. Fourth, you’re only steps away from Stoic and Genuine- it has amazing oysters and I’ll have to say, one of the best burgers I’ve ever eaten. Lastly, I’m always on the hunt for good happy hour cocktails and Mercantile Dining & Provisions delivers unique and refreshing libations to keep your travel experience well worth your trip.

One of the best things about the Crawford is that it connects you straight to the Denver International Airport via the A-line train. A train departs every 15 minutes, so it’s perfect for an early flight or to cut rideshare travel costs. s Another great perk the hotel offers is courtesy Tesla transportation within two miles of the hotel.

The bottom line on the Crawford is that you can’t go wrong with cloud-like beds, great cuisine just steps away from your travel abode, and transportation perks that no other hotel offers.

The Maven Hotel

Also known as The Crawford Hotel’s sister hotel, the Maven hotel has one of the coolest lobbies I’ve ever seen. The lobby sets the overall vibe of the hotel- as soon as you walk through the door you are transported to a chic and instagrammable space. The common spaces of the hotel are full of life. Unique art pieces hang along the hallways and main areas, an elevator decor of fashion belts and swings on every floor of the hotel.

Just like the Crawford, its prime location is within easy walking distance of major sights and restaurants in the city. The rooms are very comfortable and modern with an artistic touch and lots of personality. The bathrooms are spacious with concrete ceilings and stocked with luxury

toiletries. The Maven anchors the Dairy Block District which many say makes it one of the best locations in Denver. This hotel is so centrally located to all the cool spots-it’s only a few blocks away from River Arts North District (Rino), shops of LoDo, Union Station, and Coors Field, home to Denver’s Major League Team, the Rockies. So baseball fans, take note, the Maven could be a grand slam of a stay for you.

Another perk of the Maven is their top-notch Southwestern-style cuisine at Kachina. The tacos, empanadas, and cocktails are to die for, please make sure you order the cucumber jalapeno and blood orange margarita (so good!) Some of the best drinks I’ve had in recent memory.

Let’s not forget a complimentary cocktail from the Airstream is offered for every guest staying at the Maven. This spot absolutely provided the beverages and vibes I was needing. If you are looking for a comfortable, modern, and a chic hotel with a prime location, the Maven is an excellent option that truly checks off every box.

Between the Crawford and the Maven hotels, my stay in Colorado was exactly what I was looking for modern with a classic chic twist and unique little details that showcase two very different accommodations. Both the Maven and the Crawford had everything you’d want when looking for the perfect place to call home while on vacation. Comfort, beauty, kind staff, and location, location, location. Hotels are places we go to feel most alive when we are away from home. And I can confidently say, the Crawford and Maven hotels exceeded every expectation. I can’t wait to visit again.

inspiring humanitarianism THE EDGE OF ADVENTURE

n “The Edge of Adventure” podcast, I have the privilege of speaking with inspiring leaders from around the globe who serve in humanitarian organizations. Each episode of the show introduces us to the work they do and why they have chosen to do so. Each conversation has something to teach us.

It was great to have Yvonne Morgan on the show from Orphan Relief Effort, Inc. I found her commitment to the children of South Asia quite moving. And I found her motivation so pure. I thought I’d share an excerpt from the podcast.

Adam: Yvonne, you’ve chosen to help orphans in Nepal and Myanmar. Tell us about these countries and the needs there.

Yvonne: Life is hard for the children in these countries. Nepal is breathtaking. It’s beautiful and generally cold. Mt. Everest is here, of course. But human trafficking is a problem. Children are often enticed under false pretenses,

promised jobs, and then taken to other countries where they’re sold and enslaved.

Myanmar is farther south and more tropical, often very hot. But it’s a lovely country with warm, welcoming people. This country’s history of political turmoil and conflict, however, has created instability, and this in turn has left many children vulnerable and neglected.

Adam: How is your team helping to serve and protect the children there?

Yvonne: We operate an orphanage in each of these countries. In Nepal, we house and care for about 20 children. We’ve worked in Myanmar since it reopened, and we now house about 40 orphans there. We provide full care for these children from the moment they arrive till they graduate from school. Food, medical and dental care, education. We treat them as we would if they were living in our own homes.

Adam: Can these children be reunited with their parents?

Yvonne: Unfortunately, no. These children come from scenarios where this just isn’t possible for one reason or another. These children need a home, and this is what we provide at our facilities.

Adam: What motivated you and your husband Bill to start Orphan Relief Effort?

Yvonne: In 1993 our newborn son passed away after only 9 days. This came as a total shock and caused our family so much pain and grief. It was a difficult time for us all, and for a while I didn’t really know what to do with myself. But after a few mission trips where I witnessed firsthand the orphan epidemic, I knew I had to do something. So, I decided to commemorate my son’s life by serving children who don’t have parents, by protecting them and providing them a home.

Adam: Yvonne, is it possible to take something bad that’s happened in our lives and see something good come from it?

Yvonne: I think so, yes. As a person of faith, I believe God helps us find ways to bring good out of something bad that’s happened to us. But only if we’re looking to do so. It’s easy to get stuck in that pit of despair and just stay there. But if we want out and if we want to turn something negative that happened to us into a positive for other people and for ourselves, I believe God will help us do that.

“The Edge of Adventure with Adam Asher” podcast is available on all major listening platforms, including Spotify, Apple and Google. To hear more from this inspiring conversation with Yvonne Morgan of Orphan Relief Effort, Inc. or to connect with them, simply click here.

TENUTA LUCE

new restuarant unveiled

Tenuta Luce, one of the most prestigious Tuscan estates located in Montalcino, recently announced an exciting new addition to its hospitality facilities with the opening of a new restaurant located next to the winery.

The winemaking philosophy of Tenuta Luce relies on the belief that wine must be the natural expression of the terroir that produces it, and the wine must reflect the specific qualities of the grapes that make it. The result is a masterful harmony between the grape variety and the terroir.

Every human intervention in the production process must be minimal and non-invasive, with the primary goal of preserving and promoting the natural harmony.

Faithful to this philosophy, the staff at Tenuta Luce is committed to providing an immersive, personalised experience to its guests so that they can fully appreciate the production approach of the estate. Tenute Luce is a unique locus in the world, both geographically and historically,

where wine celebrates life, tradition, and culture. Visits at Tenuta Luce, by reservation only, are planned in detail by trained professionals who take care of their guests right from arrival. Experiencing Luce from all angles includes walking through the vineyards of Merlot, Sangiovese, and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes; touring the wine cellar, including the fermentation areas and the barrel cellar, and a tasting of Tenuta Luce wines (Luce, Lucente, Luce Brunello, Lux Vitis) in the exclusive room of the Wine Library.

The recent opening of the restaurant, located next to the cellar where Tenuta Luce wines are born and aged, offers a fitting crown to that experience. On the main floor, guests are welcomed by an elegant reception area with a fireplace and a warm, homely atmosphere.

The restaurant, located above the reception, has an open-view kitchen and a stylish, modern look, with a magnificent view overlooking the vineyards. During the summertime, guests may dine en plein air on a spacious

patio overlooking the garden, created by the landscape designer Richard Shelbourne. The restaurant is open exclusively to Tenuta Luce guests and only by reservation, from Monday through Friday. The menu is created daily by the chef following the guests’ preferences and focusing on seasonal ingredients. launches own small batch gin ST. ERMIN’S HOTEL

The four-star deluxe St Ermin’s Hotel in London’s St James’ Park now has its own small batch gin, made exclusively using home-grown botanicals handpicked from the hotel’s kitchen roof garden and a touch of honey from its resident Buckfast bees. The gin, a London Dry infused with mint, lemon verbena, lavender, blue basil and geraniums is made by the award-winning Hawkridge Distillers using traditional techniques to deliver a high quality spirit. Tasting offers heady citrus flavours followed by a juniper heart through to late, refreshing fruit notes all smoothed with a hint of honey harvested from the hotel’s hives.

At 40% by volume the gin will be available in the hotel’s Caxton Bar, by way of traditional G&Ts paired with Franklin & Son’s Tonic or a Vesper Martini, created for Mr

Bond by Ian Fleming, a once familiar face at the bar. Also offered for sale in 70cl bottles it can be enjoyed sipped straight or with a premium tonic; a slice of grapefruit or sprig of rosemary and plenty of ice can also be recommended.

With a glamorous heritage, eclectic styling, gorgeous rooms and suites, the enigmatic Caxton Bar and Terrace plus award winning signature restaurant, The Caxton Grill, the St. Ermin’s Hotel is a distinctly individual, contemporary and welcoming offering. sydney comes to life after dark MANLY NIGHTLIFE

ospitality consultant, award-winning mixologist and owner of Manly restaurant and bar Banco, Kurtis Bosley knows a thing or two about how to have a great night out in Manly. Here the local shares his knowledge for a memorable after-dark excursion to the nightlife hub of Sydney’s laidback Northern Beaches, now just as popular for its culinary scene as its buzzing late-night bars.

Salute the sunset with a drink in-hand

The night begins early at Banco on Manly’s Whistler Street, which serves a special sips and snacks menu until 6pm. “It’s our take on a happy hour, with a menu of bite-sized snacks that changes all the time — there might be a mini lobster roll, or maybe a steak tartare,” explains Kurtis, who recommends kicking off your evening with bar manager Jacopo Montis’s wine pick of the day.

“In the afternoon he’ll open a bottle of something that he’s loving to drink, and that usually that sits in the natural, biodynamic, minimal-intervention style of wine, and always has a really lovely story,” says Kurtis. “A big part

of what we do in this space is have that extra interaction with guests; we talk about where the wine comes from, where your food comes from and how it might have been farmed. We want guests to feel at home here.”

Sunset Adventures...

Sunset tends to draw Manly locals and visitors alike to the seaside, particularly the suburb’s harbourside wharf, which offers stellar views to the southwest as the sun sinks behind the city. “Going into summer, it’s really nice to grab a beer down at Wharf Bar [also known as Manly Wharf Hotel], which was recently renovated,” says Kurtis. “The Manly Skiff Club, which has been there for over 100 years, is another good place for a sunset drink, with a great view across Little Manly.”

Across the road from Wharf Bar on Manly’s East Esplanade, also with water views, 4 Pines Brewing Company is another place you might bump into Kurtis: “They do some really cool small-batch brews here, so you can go there any day and try something new.”

Move on to a memorable main course

With its moody lighting, cosy seating and elevated British gastropub-inspired menu, Banco is a fine choice for an intimate meal in Manly. Among Kurtis’s other top dinner picks is Manly Greenhouse, which has a contemporary restaurant, wine bar and rooftop cocktail bar spread over three lush levels overlooking Manly Beach. “They’ve got a great chef in there and it’s a beautiful space designed by [Sydneybased interior design firm] Luchetti Krelle,” Kurtis says. “They’ve got this big woodfired oven that they cook a lot of their food over — it’s really good.”

Tiny izakayainspired restaurant Waka on Pittwater Road is another local favourite. “If you can get a seat in this micro-restaurant, the Japanese food is excellent,” says Kurtis. For more memorable Japanese dining, Kurtis recommends heading to Sunset Sabi on Pittwater Road.

Buzzing café by day and candlelit restaurant by night, character-laden Belgrave Cartel on Belgrave Street is another Kurtis-approved dinner option. “It’s another popular local’s spot, with a good menu of Italian-inspired food and drinks,” he says.

Looking for something cheap and cheerful? Kurtis suggests another local Asian restaurant, Wokbar Manly on Belgrave Street. “It’s a go-to noodle spot that’s super underrated,” he says. “You just know you’re going to get a good meal here.”

locals for a nightcap

When Banco shuts its doors for the night, Kurtis recommends following his staff to underground speakeasy-style bar The Cumberland on Central Avenue for a nightcap. “They’re only one street over and they serve some of the best drinks in town,” he says. “It’s also a beautifully fitted-

out space.”

Repeat visitors to Manly might be more familiar with Hotel Steyne on The Corso, Manly’s original pub, which dates back to 1859. But you might struggle to recognise the historic watering hole if you haven’t visited recently,

with a major renovation completed in late 2020 breathing new life into the venue’s multiple bar areas, bistro and 42 rooms.

“Coming from a pub background, I have a soft spot for those big venues,” says Kurtis. “The Steyne is one of the latest opening venues in Manly, so if we’re having a late one we’ll probably end up there.”

With the last ferry to Circular Quay in Sydney’s city centre pulling away from wharf after midnight, there’s plenty of time to enjoy a night out in Manly before heading back to the bright lights of the city. But if you’d prefer to bed down locally, Kurtis recommends booking into the centrally located Manly Pacific, formerly known as the Novotel. “They’ve got a good restaurant and it’s on the beachfront, so you get a really nice sunrise,” he says.
