What do you enjoy most about advent/christmas time?

Our family is sprayed over three countries. So I like the time spent with my family.

Do you have any Christmas or Advent traditions?

In Provence, it is a tradition to build a nativity scene. Remembering these times with my father, I actually made a soft one for toddlers: they can play without fearing breaking anything.

What’s your current favorite product of yours?

I am very proud of my new Advent calendar (a dollhouse to build a bit more everyday). But it can also be used as a Christmas gift.

What’s your most precious Advent memory?

As a child, we used to wake up on December 1st, discovering that elves left us hundreds of treats, cookies and few little present in our Advent Calendar! Nowadays as an adult, I still put it up on November 30th for the day after!

Christmas decoration tutorial

Himmeli are traditional Northern European mobiles made from reeds or straw. 12 cylinders form an octahedron and represent the 12 months of the year. They are used as decorations for Christmas or hang from the ceiling over the dinner table. Here is a version using recycled paper.

Material

Newspaper

Kitchen string

Glue

Scissors

Paint if you wish

Directions

1. Cut out 8cm x 8cm squares of newspaper

2. Wrap a square around the straw and glue the end to form a tube. Remove from straw.You can paint the rolls if you wish.

3. repeat 1. and 2. to get 12 rolls.

4. Slide the string through 4 rolls, tie a knot to form a square. Cut off excess string.

5. In each roll of the square, pass a piece of string through which you slip a roll before and a roll after. Cut the string, leaving enough to make a knot.This way you form triangles.

6. Take the 2 triangles face to face in the square and tie them above the square. You form a pyramid. Do the same with the other 2 triangles below the square to form an octahedron. Cut off the excess string.

It's a recent memory from my son two years ago. He was 2 years old and I remember how his eyes lit up when he saw all the presents under the Christmas tree. It was such a magical moment!

What’s your favorite Christmas memory?

Traveling to my home town to see my grandparents, we waited for Santa Claus there and I received a big my little pony house. It was the best present ever. I will never forget it.

What’s your fondest memory of Christmas past?

On Christmas Eve my sister and I had to wait outside the living room. During this time, my mother prepared the presents, lit candles and put on Christmas music. when we were allowed to enter the room, we were gripped by an unbelievably cozy Christmas feeling. I get this feeling every time I decorate and light a candle during the Christmas season.

Do you have any new Christmas traditions?

Every year, my boyfriend and I are going to a fireplace in the woods. There we will drink some Glühwein or Heisser Hirsch and make chestnuts (Marroni). Sometimes we invite our families or friends to keep us company.
