SETTING THE STAGE FOR THE FUTURE OF THE HEAVY OIL INDUSTRY There is a growing interest in exploring and upgrading heavy oil to meet the future energy needs. Reports suggest by 2030, the global crude oil demand is estimated to be about 89 MMbbls/day; approximately 30% of that production is expected to come from heavy oil. Technological innovations, advancements in enhanced oil recovery methods, and infrastructural upgrades are increasingly making it possible to explore and upgrade heavy and extra-heavy oil; enabling the oil and gas producing countries to meet increasing consumption, growing demand and production levels. Providing a convening platform for the global heavy oil community, across the entire value chain, to meet, exchange knowledge and do business the World Heavy Oil Congress & Exhibition (WHOC) offers companies and heavy oil professionals an exceptional opportunity to network, share project insights, generate new business, and meet global heavy oil players. Taking place in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman from Monday 2 - Wednesday 4 September 2019, WHOC hosts an all-encompassing three-day technical conference featuring case studies and presentations; a two-day strategic conference featuring key insights from global business and thought leaders across the heavy oil value chain, and a three-day international exhibition where NOCs, IOCs, EPCs, OEMs, service and technology companies will showcase their projects, product, innovations and services. His Excellency Dr Mohammed bin Hamad Al Rumhy Minister of Oil & Gas Sultanate of Oman
The 9th World Heavy Oil Congress & Exhibition enabled collaboration between heavy oil professionals from across the globe. Attendees from 41 countries joined us in the Sultanate of Oman and the event provided many opportunities for knowledge exchange and networking between Omanis and our guests. We are happy to see this event in the Sultanate for the next three years and look forward to welcoming you all to Oman and the World Heavy Oil Congress & Exhibition in 2019

EXHIBITION Steve Kelly President & General Manager Occidental of Oman
Occidental is honoured to attend the World Heavy Oil Congress and Exhibition (WHOC). For more than a dozen years, we have had the privilege of operating Mukhaizna, a heavy oil field that is also the largest oil field in the country. Our employees have developed tremendous expertise in heavy oil, particularly the Omanis we have been fortunate to hire and train from the concession areas where we operate. They have developed unparallelled experience in the region, and are a tremendous asset to us and to Oman. WHOC provides excellent opportunities for knowledge transfer and business networking, and we look forward to returning next year.

US$ 22 billion - the total cost of projects currently being implemented in Oman. In 2019, two exploration contracts worth US$ 58 million were signed with Occidental Oman and Oman Oil Company E&P, paving the way for 19 offshore drilling wells to be set up in the Sultanate.
Oman Oil Company & ORPIC merge, creating a fully-integrated oil company, with combined stakes of about 1.1 million b/d of refining capacity in Oman, India and Hungary.
In progress: billion-dollar infrastructure projects such as the Muscat-Sohar Pipeline Project, Duqm Refinery Project, Liwa Plastics Industries Complex, and an integrated refinery complex with Kuwait Petroleum Corporation.
Over US$ 10 billion has been invested towards transforming Duqm into a vibrant trading hub; including development of the China-Oman Industrial Park, that will eventually house Sino-GCC joint ventures spanning numerous sectors.
