Did you know...? •

Chief Solanos name was originally Sem-Yeto. This Native American name translates to “brave hand.”

He was born in the late 1700’s within the Suisun Bay area.

He served as a famous leader and chief within the Suisun Indian tribes.

The baptism of Chief Solanos occurred in 1810 at the San Francisco Mission.

His baptism is not only significant in religious terms, but also signifies a rebirth after his men were slaughtered two months prior by Spanish attacks.

He is noted for building the population of the Mission San Francisco de Solano with the remainder of his tribe.

Solano and his men became allies to the general, Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo.

He led his men to Monterey to seek military support for Vallejo. This support would have been provided by Juan Bautista Alvarado, but Solano and his men did not make it in time.

In history Solano is one of two Native Americans to receive a massive land grant rancho from Mexican powers.

His awarded rancho was known as Rancho Suisun. After his death his tribes were not allowed to keep it.
