HOW TO

Things to know: • Take a tour of the potential facility. You should intuitively feel warmth and safety in this environment. • Focus on the cleanliness, staffing levels and the appearance of other residents.

• Bring the prospective resident along for the tour. • Ask questions and address special needs of the prospective patient. • Talk with a relative of a patient who is currently living in the nursing home. • A doctor may suggest additional facilities not on your original list. • Taking time and doing research will result in a better quality of life for your loved one.

F

CHOOSE A NURSING HOME FACILITY

amily members deserve the best care, particularly as they grow older. A good nursing home facility can help parents, grandparents, siblings or other elderly loved ones live a happy, healthy life. Placing them in a comfortable environment ensures that you have peace of mind knowing that they are receiving good attention and care. There are several factors to consider when picking a care center. Making the right choice means your loved ones will enjoy happiness and longevity. It will also mean less stress for family members.

questions and address special needs of the prospective patient. Possible questions might include availability of physical and occupational therapy, accommodation of patients' doctors' appointments outside the facility and access to barbers and beauticians for the residents. Q Talk with Others You might have a chance to talk with a relative of a patient who is currently living in the nursing home. Don't be afraid of asking them for honest opinions about the facility. Query them about the staff and quality of care received by the residents. Solicit their input on whether you should place your own loved one in this facility. These relatives are usually eager to share their experiences with you. Hearing their impressions will help ease your own anxieties about this important decision.

Placing them in a comfortable environment ensures that you have peace of mind knowing that they are receiving good attention and care.

Q Visit the Facility Take a tour of the potential facility. You should intuitively feel warmth and safety in this environment. Your visit will also provide clues about the general atmosphere and morale of the residents. There should be lots of natural light, cheerful colors, bright wall art and hints of laughter from the staff and patients. Focus on the cleanliness, staffing levels and the appearance of other residents. Is the air fresh and free from unpleasant odors such as urine, feces and stale food? Are there enough nurses and attendants on duty? Are residents appropriately dressed? Do they seem clean and freshly bathed? Bring the prospective resident along for the tour. This facility may become home. Your loved one deserves to have a voice in selecting the facility. Feeling welcomed are cues that this could be a positive living experience. Socializing is important. Are there opportunities for residents to meet each other? Regular activities such as music and crafts or an outdoor area for enjoying the sunshine will enhance quality of life. Most nursing home facilities are happy to provide a tour of the building. Once you see the environment, ask for a consultation with a staff member. This is an opportunity for you to ask

Q Ask the Doctor If you are still unsure about your decision, or if you have reservations about the facility, discuss the matter with your loved one's primary care physician. This professional should also be able to recommend good nursing facilities in your area. The doctor may suggest additional facilities not on your original list. When your loved one has special needs, the doctor will know which facility or center can best meet these requirements. Deciding to put a family member or loved one in a nursing facility is never easy. Carefully weigh the expectations of your family member with your impressions and the recommendations of others. This is one of life's most difficult decisions. Taking the time and doing the research will result in a better quality of life for your loved one and peace of mind for yourself.

LOT OF QUESTIONS TO ASCERTAIN IF THE HOME CARE AGENCY IS THE RIGHT CHOICE FOR YOU.

F

CHOOSE A HOME HEALTH CARE AGENCY

or many Americans, home health care is becoming a much more common way to receive medical care. Why? Several reasons, actually. Patients are being discharged from the hospital sooner. Many services that used to be available only in the hospital or doctor’s office – such as dialysis, IV therapy and wound care – can now be safely and efficiently carried out in the home setting. And, studies indicate that patients prefer to recover in the comfort of their own homes, which has contributed to the increase of everything from nursing care to post-operative rehabilitation now being done in the home. Of course, if you’re like most people, you don’t think about home health care until a hospital staff member or physician recommends services and you need to take immediate action – when you or a loved one or friend is discharged from a hospital, recovering from an injury or trauma, or dealing with chronic illness. Unfortunately, these are the times when it can be most difficult to make a rational, balanced and informed decision. That’s why the best time to con-sider home health care is now – before you or a loved one needs it.

care agencies in your geographic area so that you can decide which provider is best for you. Hospitals are also required to disclose which of these facilities they have a financial interest in, as well as those that have a financial interest in the hospital. Many federally-funded programs, insurance companies and health maintenance organizations (HMOs) provide for home health care services. To be sure home health care is covered under your plan or program, review your insurance coverage and research the options that may be available to you. Paying privately is also an option. TEN QUESTIONS TO ASK WHEN SELECTING A HOME CARE PROVIDER Getting answers to some basic questions can assist in the decision-making process. Below are common questions to ask when selecting a home health care provider: ■Is the agency certified for participation in Medicare and Medicaid programs (where applicable)? ■How many years of experience does the agency’s staff have serving the community? ■Does the agency provide an initial assessment to determine if the patient would be appropriate for home care and what those services might be? ■Does the agency provide all of the services you need? Can they provide flexibility to meet the patient’s changing health care needs? How does the agency choose and train their employees? Are background checks made? Does it protect its care-givers with written personnel policies, benefit packages and malpractice insurance? ■Does the agency provide literature explaining its services, eligibility requirements, fees and funding? ■Does the agency have arrangements in place for emergencies? Are the agency’s caregivers available 24 hours a day, seven days a week? How quickly can they start service? ■Are references from former clients and doctors available? ■What types of programs does the company have in place to assure quality care is provided? Keep in mind that knowledge is power, and the more you know, the more well-informed your decisions will be. Become an active participant in your health plan and healing. Ask questions. Ask a lot of them. Learn as much as you can about the provider, the processes, and so on before making your selection. Home health care can play a powerful role in your or a family member’s recovery from illness or injury, so it is to your benefit to know as much as possible about it – now.

Learn as much as you can about the health care provider.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT HOME HEALTH CARE What do you need to know about home care? First, like hospital care, it relies on a team of highly-trained health professionals. A home health care team can include registered nurses, infusion specialists, technicians, home health aides, personal care workers and physical, occupational and speech therapists, who work with state-of-the art medical equipment. Second, it provides you with a network of comfort and support while you recover. Home care draws on the resources and support of the family and recognizes them as essential to the healing process. Home care workers often link patients with resources in their communities such as support groups, senior services, Meals on Wheels programs, job training and education programs. Many physicians maintain that patients recuperate more quickly and more fully in a home environment among family, friends and familiar settings, as well as having the benefit of one-to-one care for the patient and their caregiver. And third, people of all ages and with a wide range of illness and injuries are all potential candidates for home care. A baby receiving photo-therapy for jaundice, an injured worker needing physical therapy for a back injury and an elderly person requiring post-operative care after a hip replacement can all receive high-quality care in their own homes. One of the most important things you should know when selecting a home health care agency is that you have a choice. In fact, as part of the discharge planning process through a hospital, rehabilitation facility, skilled nursing facility or other institution, federal law requires hospitals to provide patients with a list of home health

HOW TO BANKING

Top five things you should know:

Q YOUR

BANKING LOCATION IS VERY IMPORTANT.

Q DOES

YOUR BANK OFFER THE OPTION OF ONLINE/MOBILE BANKING?

Q DOES

A LIVE PERSON ANSWER THE PHONE AT YOUR BANK?

Q SELECT

A BANK THAT BEST FITS YOUR BANKING NEEDS.

Q CHOOSE

A BANK THAT OFFERS COMPETITIVE RATES AND FEES WITH GREAT PERSONAL LOAN SERVICES

PICK A COMMUNITY BANK

We are in an ever changing economic and social environment. We must be consistent yet realize that we must adapt and change as needed. Listed below is some of the information that will hopefully help you in understanding differences in ďŹ nancial institutions. Some key points to consider: Q Location Q Technology Q Customer Service Q Deposit Accounts Q Loans Q Community Involvement Location is very important when it comes to convenience of making a deposit, cashing a check or even meeting with a banker for a loan or customer service question. Technology — Does the bank offer the option to bank through online banking/mobile banking? Is there a cost associated with this service? Ask security questions and make sure that you feel comfortable with the bank's security policies. Customer Service — It may be important to you that a person locally can help you. Does a live person answer when you call? Will you have to call a toll-free number for customer service from some distant location?

7

Deposit Accounts — Select a bank based on the type of account you want from a bank and one that best ďŹ ts your needs. Most banks offer similar accounts but the charges and fees vary based upon researching checks, overdrafts and other services routinely needed by customers including a possible monthly service charge or simply transferring your money from one account to another. Loans — Choose a bank that offers competitive rates and fees with great personal loan service. Make sure you are aware of any fees or points or terms that may affect your loan during its term. Building a relationship with your lender helps them understand your needs. This relationship can prove to be invaluable during your lifetime of borrowing needs.

We care about our customers and our employees, and it shows in the way we conduct ourselves.

Community Involvement — Last, but not least, is community involvement. In today's hectic and sometimes seemingly uncaring world, it is refreshing to see and know that a bank and its staff are involved in your community and care. Also it is good to know that your money is being invested in your community. Community reinvestment and support are crucial to most areas. Is the bank involved in your community; are they not only giving ďŹ nancial support, but seen actively working for and in the community?

SERVICES

HOW TO M

Things to know:

• I would suggest when choosing a funeral home, that you find one that will fulfill your wishes and serve your family. . • You can avoid that stress by checking out the options in your area now, long before you need a funeral director’s services. • Face to face is usually the best; ask each of them to help you with your questions.

CHOOSE A FUNERAL HOME

y name is John Lewis Key and as the owner of GrifďŹ n ~ Hillcrest Funeral Home of Ardmore, I am asked questions every day as a funeral director. The questions I am asked the most are, “How do I choose a funeral home?â€?, “How do I pre-plan for my funeral?â€?, “What is the best way to fund it?â€? I would suggest when choosing a funeral home, that you ďŹ nd one that will fulďŹ ll your wishes and serve your family. The search can be difďŹ cult, especially if we wait until a death has occurred. If we wait, we can feel pressured to choose without having time to make an intelligent decision, we go to the old standby, a name we have heard around town, asking the opinion of a person in the room, and asking strangers and family who would they use. All of those ways are normal and not wrong, but you may not receive the right information that ďŹ ts your needs. Everyone’s idea of right is not always right FOR YOU. You can avoid that stress by checking out the options in your area now, long before you need a funeral director’s services. Make a list of what it is that you need; do you want to be buried, entombed, or cremated? Do you wish to be viewed? Do you want a funeral or a simple disposition? Write down your list of what you want and any questions you may have. Once you have a plan, it is time to make some appointments. Now make an appointment to speak with the funeral homes in your area, you can do this by phone or email. Face to face is usually the best; ask each of them to help you with your questions. It is important to know that

most funeral homes are staffed with highly trained individuals that can help you. Be sure you leave with a General Price List that reects your needs and an itemized statement detailing the price of the services and items you have chosen. After seeing each of the funeral homes, consult your checklist. What do you think of the facility, what do you think of the staff and are they ďŹ scally responsible to you, the customer? Be sure you are comparing alike services and merchandise. One may charge more for services and less for casket and vice versa. Know what your total cost is. If you have any concerns or need more clarity, don’t be afraid to call and ask questions. Once you have chosen a funeral home you can now pre-plan your funeral. Pre-planning should not cost anything. To pre-plan is to put any and all your wishes on paper. Your funeral home should help you with this. Once you have pre-planned your wishes, be sure and establish with the funeral home of choice as to how you will fund your wishes. Some people have trusts at banks in their name or life insurance that they have asked the beneďŹ ciary of the policy to use to fund their wishes with. Some want to pay the funeral home through a licensed assurance policy sold at the funeral home that will freeze the cost and fund your wishes. Just make sure your funding is enough to allow for your wishes to be fulďŹ lled. This is the best way you can ensure your family will not have to stress at the time of need.

Everyone’s idea of right is not always right FOR YOU.

• If you have any concerns or need more clarity, don’t be afraid to call and ask questions. • To pre-plan is to put any and all your wishes on paper.

HEARING

HOW TO M

Things

you should know:

1. There are many options available today. Take your time. 2. Don't expect a quick fix. 3. Buy from a local provider.

GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR HEARING AID

ore than 40 million Americans suffer some degree of hearing loss, affecting day-to-day life for them and the people around them. So the decision to purchase hearing aids can be life changing and beneficial for everyone involved. Sometimes getting used to your hearing aids can be a little bit of a process, so it’s important to know what to expect. Practice Unlike eyeglasses, which give you immediate, positive results the moment you put them on, hearing aids typically require a short transition period. How the hearing aids sound, how they feel, and even getting in the habit of wearing them every day takes practice. With time, patience, and experience, you will come to understand all the benefits your hearing aids can have on your life.

K

Where do I start? One of the most important things for success with your hearing aids is to buy them from a local provider. Today’s hearing aids are highly programmable and adjustable. This not only helps you hear and understand better, but it helps to make them more comfortable and more natural sounding than ever before. But there are still basic things you will need. You will need maintenance and you will need adjustments and it’s important to be able to get those when you need them, especially in the beginning. When you have to wait two or three weeks until your provider is back in town or have to drive a long distance to get the service you need, you are not getting the most benefit out of your hearing aids. Most hearing aid manufacturers have very similar products and technologies available. So the main things to consider are location, experience, and customer service. Sometimes it’s not as important what you get as who you get it from. Do your research, ask questions, and ask friends and family about their experiences. The more you know, the better decision you can make about what is best for your journey to better hearing!

Your attitude about your hearing aids has a lot to do with how successful you will be with them.

Attitude Your attitude about your hearing aids has a lot to do with how successful you will be with them. You will have to work at it daily until you get in a routine with them. Think of your new hearing aids as tools. You need to learn how to use them, and get them out and practice using them. Wear the hearing aids as often as you can at first so that you can get used to all the new sounds. In the beginning sounds may be strange or unnatural sounding, but a lot of that is because you haven’t heard those frequencies in so long. Your brain has to relearn how to hear certain sounds, especially those in the high frequencies. Sometimes it may take four to six weeks to transition into hearing these new sounds.

Expectation Think of your hearing aids as a prosthetic. If you lost your leg and got a prosthetic, you would then be able to walk again. You may not be running a marathon, but you would be able to walk. Hearing aids are similar in that they are going to help you hear better, but you are not going to hear like you did when you were in your twenties. On average it takes a person with hearing loss 7-10 years to decide to do something about it, sometimes even longer! What can happen during that time is that your brain may develop a different way of hearing and understanding. It utilizes everything available in your environment to help it understand what is being said. For example it uses your eyes to bring in visual cues like

M

body mannerisms of the speaker and reading lips. It can basically forget how to hear and understand in the normal way. So when you start wearing hearing aids, you have to retrain your brain and that may take time.

HOW TO S DENTAL

Things

you should know:

1. VISIT

2. CHECK

TO

SEE IF A PROSPECTIVE PRACTICE ACCEPTS YOUR DENTAL INSURANCE. IF NOT, THE FEES MAY DIFFER SLIGHTLY.

3. ASK

QUESTIONS AND EXPRESS ANY PHOBIA AND PAIN CONCERNS. A GOOD DENTIST WILL WORK TO MAKE THEIR PATIENTS COMFORTABLE.

METHODS FOR CHOOSING THE RIGHT DENTIST

electing a dental professional is key to maintaining your health and appearance. In the past, picking a dentist posed little difficulty. Routine cleanings, X-rays and the handling of more complex dental procedures were all the duties of the local dentist or the dental office that was designated by the patient's insurance company. These days, patients tend to conduct independent research in order to find a dentist with whom they have complete confidence, and one they believe is best able to improve their dental health in a convenient, comfortable environment. The process of selecting a dentist should include consideration of several factors. It makes sense to seek a dentist whose office is near your home or workplace and operates at times convenient to your family. Getting recommendations from loved ones and collegues can be a great way to identify the best dentists. Dental offices often have their own websites, which include facts about the practice itself and the educational and professional backgrounds of those working there. A few things to research on a dental office's website include how appointments are handled and what kinds of specialized services are offered. You should also try to learn how much lead time is usually needed in order to make appointments for teeth cleanings and other routine procedures. It is important to find a dental office able to provide emergency services when unexpected issues arise. You can learn whether a given office offers such services by simply placing a call during business hours. Try to find a practice staffed by knowledgeable, personable employees. Check that he or she has earned the necessary degree from a reputable school and are current on all licensing and continuing educational requirements. Ideally, he/she will be familiar with the latest dental technologies and trends.

The best dentists are known for providing state-ofthe-art dental care while striving to create and maintain a healthy, beautiful smile for patients. Payment policies should be discussed in advance of any procedure, with estimates being given for all services. If dental insurance will be used, always check to be sure your chosen dentist accepts your coverage type. If not, you may need to discuss payment plan options ahead of time, especially for the most expensive procedures. When visiting a dentist for the first time, he or she should be professional and friendly. Every dentist should be willing to answer all questions pertaining to the individual patient's needs and concerns. If phobias and pain are concerns, patients should make that fact known during an initial visit with a prospective dentist and determine what can be done to alleviate them. Many dentist are willing to go above and beyond to cater to patients with these specific issues. A basic oral health history should be taken by the dentist, and possible future treatment and prevention options should be discussed. A good dentist will work to make his or her patients comfortable and should have a pleasant personality. First impressions mean a lot when choosing a dentist. If the dentist, hygienists or office staff create an atmosphere that is anything less than professional or competent, a new dentist should be sought. The best dentist offer friendly, happy dental experiences. They place a high priority on the preferences and concerns of their patients and offer exceptional, cutting-edge dental services. Teeth are extremely important to overall health and appearance and should be entrusted only to the very best dentists. Finding a good dentist is akin to finding a true friend within the dental industry who consistently makes it their goal to improve the beauty and health of their patients' smiles.

The best dentists offer friendly, happy dental experiences.

WELLNESS

HOW TO I

Things to know:

• The best cannabis testing measures the levels of the following components found in cannabis plants: cannbinoids, terpenes, solvents, pesticides and microbials. • Knowing the actual levels of THC in a product can make a huge difference for those either looking to benefit from the compound's assets or to avoid its symptoms. • Terpenes are commonly found in most fruits and vegetables including myrecene which is found in mangoes.

KNOW THE IMPORTANCE OF TESTING CANNABIS

f someone offered you a bowl ďŹ lled with a purple, strange smelling substance and said, “Eat this. You’ll love it,â€? you’d at the least ask them what it was before putting it in your mouth, right? If you answered no, then take this advice with love. Don’t eat it until you know it’s safe. That advice applies to consuming cannabis, too, especially since the introduction of medical cannabis is in its infancy here in Oklahoma. This is why cannabis testing, a scientiďŹ c process gauging the varying levels of compounds and chemicals present in the medicine, is both beneďŹ cial and important. Testing equips patients with knowledge and keeps them safe from harmful substances and unwanted effects. Like most folks in the agricultural industry, some cannabis growers use pesticides. Even when handled appropriately, pesticides are toxic chemicals such as fungicides, insecticides, and herbicides designed to kill living organisms. In the cannabis industry, a lack of proper testing can exacerbate these risks for unsuspecting patients. Scissor Tail Labs, a pioneer in the testing industry in Oklahoma, can test cannabis for potency, terpenes, residual solvents, pesticides, and microbial contamination by measuring the various levels of the compounds present in the plant. However, not all labs test this way. Some labs only test for cannabinoids (THC, CBD ect). This is why, in addition to demanding excellent testing, it is important for patients to know who is doing the testing and what exactly is being tested. The best cannabis testing measures the levels of the following components found in cannabis plants: cannabinoids, terpenes, solvents, pesticides and microbials. Cannabinoids include the better-known THC and CBD in addition to several other beneďŹ cial chemical compounds produced by cannabis. THC, the component responsible for the sensation of euphoria, is also linked with the alleviation of pain, nausea, insomnia, stress, and appetite loss. On the other hand, it can produce feelings of paranoia and distress in some patients. Knowing the actual levels

of THC in a product can make a huge difference for those either looking to beneďŹ t from the compound’s assets or to avoid its symptoms. A misrepresentation of the cannabinoid levels could be frustrating at the least and devastating at the most. Terpenes are the oils that make cannabis smell like pine, berry, mint, or one of the many other scents produced by different strains. Terpenes are commonly found in most fruits and vegetables including myrcene which is found in mangoes. In addition to permeating the atmosphere with delicious avors, different terpenes, like cannabinoids, are connected with the following medicinal properties: anti-insomnia, anti-psychotic, anti-epileptic, anti-anxiety, painkilling, anti-septic, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory. Although it has been legalized for medical and/ or recreational use in 33 states, cannabis’ status as a Schedule I drug makes it federally illegal. This is problematic for exactly 198,564 reasons, one of those being a lack of federal oversight when it comes to testing. Because there is no set federal policy for growers to follow, testing standards vary from county to county. An example of this problem in action is the current standard of pesticide testing. One commonly used test is the Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). Many in the agriculture industry utilize this test because it tests for over 200 different forms of pesticides. Although the ELISA test assesses an array of pesticides, it doesn’t test for the speciďŹ c substances that cannabis growers use. Again, the lack of federal oversight and the infancy of cannabis testing means that there are not a lot of tests speciďŹ cally designed for cannabis. Don’t take a bite of the weird-smelling purple soup before knowing what the heck it is. Knowledge is power, so ask your dispensary who it tests with and look into that laboratory. If your dispensary doesn’t use an independent lab or shies away from giving you clear and direct information regarding testing, it may be time to ďŹ nd a dispensary that takes your health just as seriously as you do.

Testing equips patients with knowledge and deeps them safe from harmful substances and unwanted effects.

SERVICES

HOW TO B

Things to know:

• Using an employment service can be a great way to find a good long-term fit for your skills. • Look for an employment service that has a large number of job openings available in your area that fit your line of work. • Some companies find their best workers by utilizing an employment agency to hire people on a trial basis. • Many employment firms offer skills tests to make sure the potential employees really do have the skills you need.

CHOOSE AN EMPLOYMENT SERVICE

oth job seekers and employers seeking to ďŹ ll positions often ďŹ nd the process time-consuming and difďŹ cult. While it’s still possible to ďŹ nd a job or ďŹ ll an opening with an advertisement online, candidates and hiring managers may ďŹ nd employment or stafďŹ ng services a more convenient way to connect both. Here are some things to consider when looking for an employment service in your area.

Job Seekers If you’re hunting for a job, stafďŹ ng services can be a great way to ďŹ nd work — whether temporarily helping you pay the bills or as an entry into a long-term, fulltime position. In fact, using an employment service can be a great way to ďŹ nd a good long-term ďŹ t for your skills. Many employers use employment services to hire temporary workers, then hire the best ones when permanent jobs open up. It can be a great ďŹ t for you and your employer when you both know exactly what to expect from the job. Look for an employment service that has a large number of job openings available in your area that ďŹ t your line of work. Most services will have a range of jobs to ďŹ t various needs in the workplace, but some specialize in one type of work or another. One service may have a huge number of jobs available in manufacturing, while another may specialize more in ofďŹ ce jobs. And employment services aren’t only for entry-level jobs. Some agencies offer headhunting services to ďŹ nd jobs for highly skilled, experienced executives. Even if you’re happily employed at the moment, it might be worth your time to explore options available from the right employment service. Aside from the job options available, you’ll want to look for an employment service with a long track record of professionalism. Their expectations should be made clear, with polite representatives and timely, concise answers to any questions you have.

and personality of employees without making a long-term commitment. As positions become available, you can hire the best ones for in-house, full-time jobs and know exactly what you’ll be getting without question. The American StafďŹ ng Association makes the following recommendations when choosing a stafďŹ ng ďŹ rm: Q Shop around. StafďŹ ng companies come in all types and sizes, so it’s a good idea to ask for references, compare prices and know all the fees that will be involved. As you’re shopping, asking about turnover rates and whether they will visit your location to get to know your needs and ofďŹ ce culture. Q Note impressions while interacting with them. Assessing contacts with the stafďŹ ng ďŹ rm can tell you a lot about how they run their business. At some level, the employment ďŹ rm will be representing your company and impacting the quality of your workforce, and you want to make sure you’re hiring a wellrun, professional organization. Q Explore how the ďŹ rm recruits and retains workers. Check out their ads, their messaging and interactions with potential employees. What are their beneďŹ ts packages and perks for workers? The better the beneďŹ ts package, the better workers they will attract on your behalf. Q Find out about screening and testing. Many employment ďŹ rms offer skills tests to make sure the potential employees really do have the skills you need. Some also offer training in speciďŹ c skills, software or business manners. Most can conduct background checks and drug tests as needed, so ask about their policies and fees. The best employment services will have a long track record of strong, trusting relationships between employers and employees. If you shop carefully, whether looking for a job or looking to meet your company’s mission-critical stafďŹ ng needs in an efďŹ cient way, the right employment service can make all the difference.

The best employment services will have a long track record of strong, trusting relationships between employers and employees.

Employers From the employer’s standpoint, an employment service offers some serious advantages over hiring in-house. It gives you exibility to staff for changing market conditions such as seasonal jobs or increased demand from customers. It also helps you ďŹ ll important jobs that may open temporarily, such as for maternity, paternity or medical leave. In fact, some companies ďŹ nd their best workers by utilizing an employment agency to hire people on a trial basis. You’ll get a ďŹ rsthand look at the skill sets, productivity

HOW TO

When to see an

orthodontist:

1. You want a beautiful smile 2. You feel a great smile will improve your self-esteem and self-confidence 3. You want the best for your family 4. Early or late loss of baby teeth 5. Difficulty chewing or biting 6. Mouth breathing 7. Sucking the thumb or fingers, or other oral habits Crowded, misplaced or blocked-out teeth 8. Jaws that shift, make sounds, protrude or are recessed 9. Speech difficulty 10. Biting the cheek or biting into the roof of the mouth 11. Protruding teeth 12. Teeth that meet in an abnormal way or don't meet at all 13. Facial imbalance or asymmetry (features out of proportion to the rest of the face) 14. Grinding or clenching of teeth 15. Inability to comfortably close lips

CHOOSE AN ORTHODONTIST

Why Orthodontics? A beautiful smile is the outward sign of successful orthodontic treatment; there is, however, a lot more to getting there than you might think! Orthodontic treatment is complex biological process. It involves changes in jaw bones, facial bones and soft tissue as teeth are moved into their new positions. A good bite makes it easier for you to bite, chew and speak. Orthodontic treatment is not a quick fix. Your care often starts with a thorough examination of the teeth and mouth, and study of dental records such as x-rays, photos and models of the teeth. From this detailed information your orthodontist usually develops a custom treatment plan. With good care, including orthodontic treatment when necessary, teeth can last a lifetime. Working together with your orthodontist, orthodontic treatment can yield life-enhancing results: better function (biting, chewing, speaking), improved appearance and increased self-esteem. Our advice: keep your scheduled appointments, advise your orthodontist of problems that may crop up between appointments, watch what you eat and drink, avoid sugary drinks and brush and floss as instructed by your Orthodontist. It's worth the effort to reach the goal you and your orthodontist share: giving you a healthy, beautiful smile that will last a lifetime.

today's technology has allowed patients to extend intervals between appointments to as long as 8 to 10 weeks.

Myth #4. Orthodontic treatment takes several years. Orthodontic treatment requires careful, controlled movements of the teeth to ensure they are moving into proper positions. From simple cases (which may only take a few months to treat) to the most complex cases (which could take longer), your AAO orthodontist has the training, experience, and skill to deliver an excellent result in the shortest amount of time. It's not worth the risk to have someone who attempts to do orthodontics as a side business because of the possible irreversible damage that could occur. Myth #5. Orthodontic treatment is purely cosmetic. There's much more to orthodontic treatment than meets the eye. An improved appearance is the most obvious result. But when teeth and jaws are in alignment, it means function (biting, chewing, speaking) is improved too, - a dual treatment benefit! That beautiful smile is the outward sign of good oral health, and sets the stage for the patient's overall well-being. Orthodontists play a larger role in healthcare than is generally realized. Myth #6. Orthodontists only offer metal braces. Orthodontists spend years studying and training in how teeth move. It makes them expertly qualified to use all the tools available to provide the best care possible for their patients. That includes metal braces, as well as a full range of other appliances (devices designed to move teeth) that can be fixed or removable, with clear options available. Rather than pressuring a patient into using a particular product or service offered by individual companies, orthodontists are craftsmen with a variety of tools at their fingertips. An AAO orthodontist has the expertise to provide the best appliance (at the right time) to achieve the best result in the most timely manner. Myth #7. Orthodontic treatment is just for kids. False. Patients of all ages, young and old, can benefit from orthodontic treatment. Age is not a concern when it comes to getting a healthy, beautiful smile. In 2014, close to 1.5 million adults were treated by AAO orthodontists! Because adults may have more complicated cases from prior dental work or gum disease, it is imperative that their treatment be provided by an AAO orthodontist who has the training, expertise and experiences to deliver the best results. The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) is open exclusively to orthodontists -only orthodontists are admitted for membership. The only doctors who can call themselves "orthodontists" have graduated from dental school and then successfully completed the additional two-to-three years of education in an accredited orthodontic residency program. When you choose an AAO orthodontist for orthodontic treatment, you can be assured that you have selected a specialist orthodontist, an expert in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics who possesses the skills and experience to give you your best smile.

A beautiful smile is the outward sign of good oral health, and sets the stage for the patient's overall well-being.

7 Myths about Orthodontic Treatment Myth #1. Anyone who provides braces or aligners is an orthodontist. False. While some general dentists or online companies offer braces or aligners, only an orthodontist who has taken the additional years of advanced training at an accredited residency can call themselves an orthodontic specialist or be a member of the AAO. It's not worth the risk of permanent damage to your face and smile to allow anyone who isn't an orthodontist to attempt to move your teeth. By selecting an AAO orthodontist, you are choosing a specialist who possesses the skills and experience to give you your best smile. Look for the AAO logo at your orthodontist's office, or locate an AAO orthodontist using 'Find an Orthodontist' at aaoinfo.org/truth. Myth #2. Orthodontists are so expensive. AAO orthodontists are unique health care providers who carefully customize their patients' treatment plans and as a result, their fees directly reflect the complexity of each case. From simple cases which only take months to treat, to very difficult ones which may take a couple of years, the benefits of having an expert provide your orthodontic care will be well worth it. Most AAO orthodontists offer free consultations and flexible payment plans, and are willing to work with their patients in order to help them achieve a beautiful smile. Trust your smile to an AAO orthodontic specialist who will safely straighten your teeth and closely monitor your progress to ensure that your bite is the best that it can be. Myth #3. Office visits are not necessary to get straight teeth. No Visits = No Monitoring = No Good. The reality is that the health of your gums, teeth and jaws cannot be monitored during treatment if you are never seen by a qualified orthodontist. Even the most carefully planned treatments need to be closely monitored to ensure that your treatment stays on course. These visits must be completed by a trained orthodontist should a problem arise or a mid-course treatment correction be needed. The good news is that

Things

you should know:

LOOK CLOSELY AT WHAT THE CENTER CAN OFFER YOU.

ANYONE WITH CHILDREN SHOULD SELECT A CONVENIENT CARE FACILITY WITH A PROVIDER WHO IS QUALIFIED TO TREAT CHILDREN.

THE BEST FACILITIES ARE OPEN SEVEN DAYS A WEEK AND HAVE EXTENDED HOURS.

CHOOSE A CONVENIENT CARE CENTER

hen your physician is unavailable or you need rapid medical attention, your local urgent care center can assist you. Health problems happen at inconvenient times. You may not have time to ask about various facilities in your area. Now is the time to find the best convenient care that will help you in your hour of need. Here are some factors to consider when selecting a convenient care. You will need a center located near your home. Time is of the essence. You will also need to understand the level of care they provide, hours of operation and insurance plans they accept. People who live in cities probably have several choices within a short distance. But if you live in a rural area, there might be only one option. Look closely at what the center can offer you. Anyone with children should select an urgent care facility with a provider who is qualified to treat children. A convenient care is an excellent backup for the times you can't see your general practitioner. The best facilities are open seven days a week and have extended hours. Most centers have the equipment to contend with colds, flu, strep throat or an ear infection. They could also help you regain control of your blood pressure. Convenient care providers are typically good at treating simple fractures and stitching wounds. Choose the convenient care where the providers have the most experience. When they don't have the resources to treat an urgent medical issue, the center will send a patient to an emergency facility. The convenient care staff will work to stabilize a patient while they wait for transport. Handling payment arrangements is your responsibility. You must know if your insurance covers the providers in the facility. If you don’t have insurance, flexible payment plans can usually be arranged. Most facilities also accept credit cards, checks and cash as payment. Patients at convenient care usually have good experiences. They appreciate the short wait times. It is especially helpful when you are sick and can't see your regular physician. You don't want to sit in

a waiting room all day, nor do you want to suffer for days while waiting for an appointment. At a convenient care facility you can see a provider, get treated and go home to recuperate quickly. While these facilities can't solve all of your medical problems, they are an excellent option when you can't see your regular physician.

What Is A Pediatric Dentist?

The pediatric dentist has an extra two to three years of specialized training after dental school, and is dedicated to the oral health of children from infancy through the teenage years. The very young, pre-teens, and teenagers all need different approaches in dealing with their behavior, guiding their dental growth and development, and helping them avoid future dental problems. The pediatric dentist is best qualiďŹ ed to meet these needs.

Why Are The Primary Teeth Important? It is very important to maintain the health of the primary teeth. Neglected cavities can and frequently do lead to problems which affect developing permanent teeth. Multi-media newspaper companies continue to be a powerful media for reaching shoppers in the market for a broad range of products and services. he science of biologic medications has advanced dramatically over the last few years. There is enhanced wound healing, improved surgical outcomes with reduced recovery, more rapid return to normal activity and better results for all kinds of surgical procedures. Medical practitioners have been hesitant to adapt the new biologics. Thirdparty insurance payers and medical institutions (including the FDA) have been slow to recognize or study the new advances in biologic medication. Recent rulings by the FDA on the extraction of stem cells from fatty tissue have produced arbitrary rules and regulations with no basis in scientiďŹ c reality. However, negative philosophies and administrative positions are not uncommon in medicine and have for generations been a part of medical progress. As an example, the use of hand washing to prevent infection was proposed by a physician (Dr. Ignatz Semmelweis) in the mid 1800’s and was roundly condemned by organized medicine as being an outlandish theory (The Semmelweis effect). 15 years ago, the use of hyperbaric chambers for wound healing was thought to be quackery by many physicians and medical societies in this country. MRI scanners and CT scans were felt to be unnecessary and overly expensive when they were ďŹ rst introduced. Today, more practitioners are using our body’s own biologic healing factors to assist in healing and provide relief from illnesses. The use of a patient’s own healing factors, amniotic membrane

Other examples include joint inammation, reduced recovery time from surgery, lower infection rates when using mesh for hernias and for other types of implanted materials. These materials can also be utilized for repair of various tissue weakness including hernia repair, vaginal and bladder repair, enhancement of reconstructive surgical procedures, reduction in radiation effect after breast cancer radiation, outcomes in heart attacks, respiratory failure,

This makes the study and comparison of different treatments difďŹ cult for the average practitioner because of cost and non availability of testing.
