THE SMELL OF SUMMER. Just last evening as my family was diving into a Sunday Dinner feast of fresh off the BBQ — Grilled Chicken, baked PEI potatoes & carrots, & some fresh Rhubarb Crisp picked from our backyard, Jennifer asks the kiddos: “What “fun things” do you want to experience this summer?” One by one, my kids rhymed off some of the classics (park, beach, shining waters, sandspit, camping, more beach, campfires, star gazing, etc.) I had to think a bit....I have a few practical goals like: learning how to rise each day happy and energized at 5am, read great books (at least one)... but I think my biggest goal is to “be in the moment”... you know, take an unplanned trip to the beach “just because it’s a nice day”, stay up late with my sweetheart and watch the stars, have more campfires & play more music “just because”.

I’m trying to save a down payment on my first home, can you offer any advice? The best way to save for your down payment is slowly, over time. If you are buying your first home and have money saved in RRSPs, you can borrow the money from your own savings to help pay for your down payment. Consider setting up an RRSP with automatic contributions so you receive tax deductions while saving for your down payment. A minimum down payment of 5% is required, so speak with a mortgage expert to find out what mortgage payment you are comfortable with and what your savings goal should be.
