We believe that self-love has the power to be action. It’s about each and every one of us needing to take conscious action (big or small) and rising up together. A key part of acting collectively is about businesses playing their part and taking responsibility. As The Body Shop founder Dame Anita Roddick once said: “Never be seduced into believing it isn’t the role of business to tackle the big issues, because it absolutely is.” We’ve always challenged societal norms, encouraging empowerment and fueling activism. Back in 1998, we took a stance on body positivity with our self-esteem campaign which featured a size 16 doll we called Ruby with the slogan: “There are 3 billion women who don’t look like supermodels and only 8 who do.” In 2021, we take a stance on self-doubt, on flipping norms, on pushing through personal and societal challenges. As a beauty company founded by a woman, it is our fundamental belief that everyone has the right to be heard, to feel beautiful, feel seen, feel believed, feel respected and be loved. We’re seeing the groundswell of female activism like never before, but there is still so much unfinished business amongst women of all ages from all backgrounds and ethnicities still grossly underrepresented, with no voice and no agency.

SELF LOVE MASSAGE
Connect to your body and soul with this powerful self-love ritual. Self-massage goes beyond skin maintenance. Massaging our bodies with our favorite Body Butter, moisturizer or oil just a few times a week, is a powerful ritual to help reduce stress levels, increase our happiness and empower us to accept those magnificent and unique bodies of ours.
WHY DOES THE POWER OF MASSAGE MAKE US FEEL SO GOOD
HOW TO SELF MASSAGE A lot of us see massage as an indulgence: something you book in as a treat for yourself. But what if we think of selfmassage as part of our self-care routine, one step we can take closer to self-love.
It turns out that touching our skin releases the natural oxytocin love hormone. Self-massage also helps increase our dopamine and serotonin levels which means a boost to our happy feel good hormones. It can help drop levels of our natural stress hormone cortisol and lower our heart rate and blood pressure.
• Try choosing your favorite body oil or maybe a Body Butter you haven’t tried yet. Choose a Body Butter that feels especially nourishing or one that has a relaxing or uplifting scent. •Y ou can practice doing long strokes up and down your arms and legs or even circular movements on your ear lobes. Did you know that massaging your earlobes by gently pulling and rubbing them stimulates the release of feel good endorphin hormones?
MASSAGE AS A SELF LOVE RITUAL Start with self-massage as one of your regular self-love rituals. Try touching every part of you, the wobbly bits, the hairy bits and make sure you do it with love, with forgiveness, with humor.
•Y ou can also try targeting painful spots, if your neck is feeling tight for example, start by lowering your shoulders and straightening your back. Gently move your fingers in circles along the tight areas and repeat in the opposite direction for a few minutes.
Whatever you choose to do, whichever part of your body you focus on, remember it’s about tuning into that self-acceptance. See it as your new self-love superpower tool and practice self-massage a few times a week. Come on, what’s not to love?
