A Word From...

The character of the places where we live, work, and, of course, shop, have a direct effect on our thoughts and emotions — whether we are aware of it or not. Everyone is reminded of this when we enter a majestic cathedral or a grand department store. Or when we feel so vulnerable as we navigate the unfamiliar underground passageways of a subway. It is extremes like these that make us fully aware of the impact of space and place. Our acute sensitivity to our surroundings is always influencing our behavior — often unconsciously. When we shop, every aspect of the store’s design is acting on our emotions. When designing for retail, you need a story to tell that will connect with the consumer in a way unlike any other retailer. Before I choose and compose the unique elements of a store for The Athlete’s Foot, that story is an expression of the brand’s identity: sport with style, leaders in what’s cool, and trendsetters in what’s next.

KICKS 4 THE CITY DARWISH TEAM
The Athlete’s Foot and Kicks 4 the City have been partners going on 5 years. We always try to come up with new ways to collect shoes for those in need. We partnered with adidas around the release of the Nite Jogger. For each customer that donated a pair of shoes they received a free pair of Nite Joggers from adidas. The promotion took place in 5 stores, but there was one store that went above and beyond. Our store in Chicago, Joliet Mall, took extra steps to promote the drive and collect the most shoes. The Darwish team has been major supporters of Kicks 4 the City since the day we announced the partnership. Their dedication to the cause doesn’t go unnoticed by the K4TC team and more importantly the community.

How long have you been dancing? I’ve been dancing for a total of 13 years now! As a kid I was always wiggling around the house. I started taking this craft seriously after the movie “You Got Served”! What is your favorite shoe to dance in? My favorite shoe to dance in (this is hard), would have to be... Air Jordan 12 Retro Chinese New Year! It’s stylish and has some of the best toe support for a dancer. What is your favorite TV dance competition show, past or present? I have to pick TWO TV shows here that really inspired me. The first show from the past is “Dance 360”. A present show would have to be “So You Think You Can Dance”! Pancakes or Waffles? Wow!!! Asking these tough questions, but I’m going with WAFFLES! And they have to be Chris Brown’s complexion... LIGHTSKIN! Lol

CHAMPIONS TAOTM is our signature contest giving aspiring artists an opportunity to perform at one of the ]largest hip hop concerts in the country, HOT 107.9’s BIRTHDAY BASH. BIRTHDAY BASH is a celebration of hip hop and R&B music, culture and influence. For over 20 years, BIRTHDAY BASH has been drawing some of the biggest names in hip hop to headline such as TI, Gucci Mane, Kanye West, Drake, Migos…the list goes on and on.

HOT 107.9 also hosts the BLOCK PARTY the day of Birthday Bash. The BLOCK PARTY is a free event that takes place at Centennial Olympic Park that kicks o the day with music performances, brand activations, food trucks, etc.
TAOTM live auditions took place in Charlotte, New Orleans, and Atlanta. Contestants around the nation also was able to submit a video online to be entered in the contest. There are 2 winners selected; runner up performs at the BLOCK PARTY and the grand prize performs on the main stage as the opening act to BIRTHDAY BASH.

SNEAKERBALL K4TCs Sneakerball is a formal evening, looking to recreate an AGORA-like atmosphere by inviting a selective, diverse group of people with passions in various industries. The invited audience is curated by a carefully selected group of inuential Host Committee Members, which includes: Actors, Athletes, Media Personalities, Attorneys and Local Entrepreneurs. With a target market that is diverse in both ethnicity and industry. The evening converges fashion, art, music, culture and philanthropy. The 2019 Gala provided an evening full of entertainment and awareness to over 1500 guests.
