Lake Superior has many names, and nicknames. Gitchigami, Great Lake, the Big Lake, The Inland Sea, but the descriptor I like the best is ‌

The Everest of Fresh Water Sailing

Kingfisher Heliskiing Strikes Gold

Guests of Kingfisher Heliskiing explore ski and snowboard runs that are only a 75 minute drive from Kelowna International Airport (YLW) and a 4 minute helicopter ride from the Gold Panner Resort.

opened their doors in February 2013. They offer small group heliskiing and heliboarding in the Central Monashee Mountain Range and Kootenays with single day, multi-day, private and semiprivate package options. Their tenure area has over 120,000 acres of world class alpine and tree skiing with options for all skill levels. Snowpack in the area averages between 3 m to 5m at the 1400m to 2000m elevation. The season runs from mid December until mid April. After three years of searching, Kingfisher just tapped the motherlode. Kingfisher Heliskiing is the proud new owner of The Gold Panner Resort, an iconic landmark nestled at the base of the Monashee Mountains in Cherryville British Columbia, Canada. Owners Tim Shenkariuk, Matt Devlin, and Ed Lewis say “To be able to lay down roots in such a beautiful part of the world is indescribable. We are excited to become permanent residents of the community.”

Kingfisher Heliskiing

The famous resort and campground has been welcoming summer visitors for generations. Long before that, Gold Panner Resort was at the heart of the gold rush from 1863 to 1930. Over $112,000,000 of gold in today’s dollars was mined in the area. “It’s a really big deal for our guests too. Our new home is easy to get to and right off the highway. We are even closer to the mountains and their first turns each morning. We are still the closest heliski operation to an international airport. So it feels like we really did just strike gold!”

Starting this winter, their team will transform Gold Panner into the perfect playground to launch the ultimate heliskiing experience. Every winter their guests and guides will enjoy this cozy, comfy, quiet piece of paradise all to themselves. Kingfisher raised the bar and got noticed last year with a Ski Canada award for their luxury private heliski tours flying directly from the 5-star Sparkling Hill Spa & Wellness Resort. Purchasing the Gold Panner puts the best access to BC’s mountains and ski culture right on their doorstep and within easy to reach. “We’ll utilize two home bases for Kingfisher Heliskiing,” says Shenkariuk. “For those looking for luxury and powder we’ll offer up the world-class Sparkling Hill Resort, and for those in search of more laid back “ski culture”, the Pinnacle Powder package is a can’t miss.” Shenkariuk added “we have big plans for future projects and partnerships that we are all really excited about.” The outlook for the North Okanagan and for Kingfisher Heliskiing is “Sunny days ahead with 100% chance of deep, deep, powder.”

All of our canoeing expeditions (8-12 days) are guided by Alex Hall, wildlife biologist and the Canadian Arctic's first and most experienced canoeing guide. Most people join our trips as singles or in pairs. Maximum number per trip is ten, including Alex, in five canoes. Because our canoe trips vary from flatwater routes to whitewater rivers, we can accommodate all levels of canoeing experience. On average, 30% of our clients each summer have taken canoe trips with us before. Established in 1974, Canoe Arctic Inc. was the first adventure travel/ecotourism business to operate in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

For full details on Canoe Arctic Inc. and the Barren Lands, a map of the region, and information on the wildlife, fishing and archaeological sites encountered on our canoe trips, please view our 25-page brochure at canoearctic.com.

Your Guide Alex Hall is a wolf biologist with over 40 years of experience in guiding canoe trips in the Canadian Arctic. As the founder of Canoe Arctic Inc., he has guided hundreds of canoe trips in the Barren Lands, a roadless, arctic-tundra wilderness that is twice the size of Alberta or Texas. Alex has paddled more miles in the Barren Lands of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut than any other person. Regardless of your level of canoeing experience, the magic of the largest wilderness left in North America is yours to discover with Alex as your guide. We invite you to contact Alex to discuss anything connected with the canoe trips. Alex can be reached day or night at (867) 872-2308 or by email: alex@canoearctic.com
