HERE WE COME! TAEA District of Distinction Pasadena ISD has been recognized by the Texas Art Education Association as a District of Distinction for its visual arts program, making it one of only 42 districts from across the state to receive the award. Pasadena ISD named Model PLC District Pasadena ISD is one of only two school districts in the state of T   exas to be recognized as a Model Professional Learning Community at Work™. Only 24 school districts throughout the country and Canada have been selected for this prestigious honor. Pasadena ISD achieves Better Buildings Challenge energy savings goal The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) recognized Pasadena ISD for achieving its energy savings goal as a partner in the Better Buildings Challenge. Through the challenge, the district achieved an energy savings of 28 percent due to greater efficiency efforts.

GRADUATION RATE: 90.5% Kendrick Middle School named finalist for Best of the Best Public Schools in Houston The Houston Chronicle’s annual Best of the Best category for Kids & Education named Kendrick Middle School as a finalist for ‘Best of the Best’ Houston Public Schools 2021. Seventeen Pasadena ISD schools receive CREST award The counseling programs at 17 Pasadena ISD schools have been named “Counselors Reinforcing Excellence in the State of T   exas” (CREST) award winners for the 2020-2021 school year. Pasadena ISD finance team scores 100% The Pasadena ISD Finance Department earned a perfect score of 100 by the School Financial Integrity Rating System of T   exas (FIRST) for the first time since the Texas Education Agency (TEA) changed the indicators in 2015-2016.

Texas Schools to Watch Beverly Hills & Bondy Intermediate, as well as Milstead, Melillo, Roberts & Keller Middle Schools recognized as Schools to Watch by TAASP.

FIRST ratings are based on 14 financial indicators, such as administrative cost expenditures, the accuracy of a district’s financial reporting and any financial vulnerabilities or material weaknesses as determined by an external auditor.

Pasadena ISD Board of Trustees win state technology education Board of the Year The Pasadena ISD Board of T   rustees won the Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA) 2020-2021 School Board of the Year award. TCEA, a non-profit organization that supports the use of technology in education, annually presents the award to a school board that “recognizes the importance of technology in the teaching and learning process and actively promotes the use of technology throughout the district,” according to the organization website.

Pasadena ISD ranked No. 1 in Houston Kroger School Food program Pasadena ISD has been ranked the No. 1 large school district in the Houston Kroger School Food Rankings program; and No. 2 for the state of Texas. CHILDREN AT RISK and Kroger broke the news during a live streamed virtual press conference on March 2, where they recognized leaders of the program’s top performing school districts.

CTE CERTIFICATIONS: 2,902 Pasadena ISD receives “Best Communities for Music Education” designation for 15th straight year The award program recognizes outstanding efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, students and community leaders who have made music education part of the curriculum. Designations are awarded to districts and schools that demonstrate an exceptionally high commitment and access to music education for all students.

Two PISD schools earn first-ever national distinction for engaging families Red Bluff Elementary and Sparks Elementary were named America’s Healthiest Schools by Healthier Generation, a nationwide recognition program that honors schools for implementing best practices that support learning and child development. Sparks received a silver award and Red Bluff received a bronze award.


Pasadena ISD graduates largest early College High School class in the State of Texas “The Class of 2021 endured Hurricane Harvey, a chemical plant fire, a global pandemic, and an extreme winter storm (taking all online college classes during those last two challenges). It is clear that they are a very resilient group of students for sure, AND, it speaks to the level of dedication and commitment that the Deans and Counselors of ECHS possess,” said Jennifer Boushley, Ed.D., Coordinator of Early College High Schools.

Nabila Munshi wins national gold medal at Scholastic Writing and Art contest Dobie High School senior Nabila Munshi has earned the prestigious National Gold Medal award in the Scholastic Art and Writing Contest for her artwork titled, “Ornate Origins.” District championship teams 2020-2021 Dobie Football, Dobie Girls Cross Country, Pasadena Boys Basketball, Dobie Girls Basketball, Dobie Boys Track, Dobie Girls Track, Dobie Boys Soccer, Memorial Baseball.

Two Rayburn Texan basketball players selected for All-State awards Two students from Sam Rayburn High School were selected as Texas Association of Basketball Coaches All-State qualifiers. Harrison Black, a senior at Rayburn, was awarded TABC Academic All-State and named the Class 6A Free Throw Shooter of the Year. Isaiah Gonzalez, a junior at Rayburn, was awarded the TABC Class 6A 3-Point Shooter of the Year.

Morales Elementary science teacher wins NSTA Shell Science Teaching award Ritu Gandhi, a science teacher at Morales Elementary received the Shell Science Teaching Award, which recognizes outstanding K-12 science teachers who are dedicated to serving their students and the community by providing a top-notch education in science.

CTHS students win Best Overall Project at Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo At the 2020 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Industrial Craft competition, CTHS students earned Best Presentation and Best Overall Project.

PISD Communication team wins Platinum The Pasadena ISD communication team brought home the prestigious Platinum Award during the annual Texas School Public Relations Association (TSPRA) conference in Denton, Texas. The award is the highest recognition for school PR in the state.


PISD Principals of the Year - Franklin Moses and Scott Pollock Dr. DeeAnn Powell, Pasadena ISD Superintendent of Schools, recognized this year’s principals of the year - Franklin Moses of Dobie High School and Scott Pollack of Milstead Middle School. Moses and Pollack attended the Region 4 Principal of the Year banquet, representing Pasadena ISD. Cortez selected as ConocoPhillips Math Teacher of the Month Samantha Cortez, a bilingual third-grade teacher at Red Bluff Elementary, was selected as the ConocoPhillips Math Teacher of the Month.

Rayburn coach wins Coach of the Year Georgia Edwards, Girls’ Basketball coach at Sam Rayburn High School, was selected as the District 22-6A Coach of the Year. Pasadena High School receives National Athletic Trainers’ Association Safe Sports School Award Pasadena High School has been named the recipient of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Safe Sports School award. The school is being recognized for implementing multiple safety measures that cater to the whole student, mentally, emotionally and physically.
