Ways to recognize and promote Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma) in your workplace.
Sigma is the organization

today because of members
like
you!
More than 90 years ago, our organization was started by six nursing students at the Indiana University Training School for Nursing. Now our members reside in more than 90 countries, and we have more than 530 chapters worldwide. Much of this growth can be attributed to the passion our members have for sharing their Sigma experience with others.
In an effort to continue connecting nurses from around the globe to resources which help them excel in their profession, we ask you to partner with us to showcase Sigma in your workplace.
We have provided a helpful list of ways you can celebrate your achievements and encourage your peers to take part in all that Sigma has to offer. CHECKLIST
❑ Wear your Sigma pin, badge reel, or
apparel in the workplace.
❑ Post your member nameplate
(enclosed as a special gift from Sigma) on your locker, desk, or office door – encourage your facility to purchase nameplates so that all Sigma members can be given one to display.
❑ Display a Sigma poster in a common
area, staff lounge, or breakroom.
❑ Encourage a friend or nursing peer to apply for Sigma membership (https://Join.SigmaNursing.org).

CHECKLIST
❑ Start a journal club focusing on articles from the Journal of Nursing Scholarship, Worldviews on Evidence-Based Practice, or Reflections on Nursing Leadership.
❑ Nominate a peer for an International
Award for Nursing Excellence or Nurse Researcher Award.
❑ Encourage peers to apply for educational
travel or research grants through the Sigma Foundation for Nursing.
❑ Identify and recognize Sigma members
by celebrating their induction.
❑ Ask Sigma members to host a table during Nurses Week to promote Sigma resources and provide membership information.
❑ Celebrate Sigma’s Founders’ Day on
5 October – coordinate an event for members to participate in 90 minutes of service.

❑ Collaborate with a local Sigma chapter
to host an educational program or community service project.
❑ Include Sigma news and
announcements in your staff newsletter.
❑ Utilize Sigma’s free members-only
or fee-based online continuing nursing education courses for staff development purposes.
❑ Sponsor staff members to attend
Sigma events, such as the annual International Nursing Research Congress, the Biennial Convention (odd years), or Leadership Connection (even years).
❑ Support and encourage participation
in one of Sigma’s leadership and mentoring programs for researchers, clinicians, and nurse educators.
