Our Mission The Brandeis School of San Francisco inspires students to lead lives of learning and purpose. We provide a challenging academic environment and a welcoming, inclusive community, each deeply enriched by Jewish thought, values, and traditions.

We Live Our Values At Brandeis, values are verbs, not nouns, and we are committed to the pursuit of a purpose-driven, ethical education.

Kindness – Chesed

We treat one another and ourselves with empathy and compassion.

Integrity – Ometz Lev

We act honestly, responsibly, and courageously.

Service – Tikkun Olam

We embrace our collective responsibility to help repair the world.

We All Make it Matter At Brandeis, we make it matter every day: Our school leaders advance a strong, relevant curriculum and champion enduring values.
Our educators infuse our classes with renewed purpose and find ways to actively connect our students to the material and to Jewish values.
Our students strive to do their best and don’t take their education for granted. Our parents and volunteers thoughtfully invest in the lives and education of their children, sharing their gifts and being a part of our warm and vibrant community.

Our Program Challenging academics and masterful teaching are at the core of what we do. Brandeis students benefit from an academic program that emphasizes small-group instruction and time with expert educators, which supports multiple entry points into learning for all students.

Strength and Resilience Our students learn to take risks and thrive through failure, not just success. At Brandeis, we believe that resilience is a critical life skill that can only be developed by welcoming and learning from challenges. Our academic program encourages assertiveness and collaboration through every aspect of our curriculum.

Spiritual and Spirited Ethics and spirituality are good for our children and for our world. We celebrate the many ways of being Jewish, and believe that the challenges of this century will require ethically-fluent and spirituallygrounded leaders. Brandeis students explore and learn from the diversity of Jewish thought and life in the Bay Area, developing an authentic spiritual identity that is unique in each of them.

Inclusivity and Belonging

At Brandeis, we strive to cultivate a community where people feel welcome and included, where differences are honored as essential components of a learning community, and where our diversities— of socioeconomic background and status, gender identity, family structure, sexual orientation, religion, race, ethnicity, and more—are secured, celebrated, and supported.

“Brandeis means everything to me: it was my home away from home, it was where I grew up, and most of all it let me discover myself through my mistakes and accomplishments.” –MIMI S., ‘18

Thoughtful and Innovative Student-centered, inquiry-based, and real-world learning is the future. We believe that children make meaning through thoughtful and critical engagement with the world. Brandeis students begin with questions in constructing their own understanding of their world, becoming critical and connected thinkers.

At Brandeis, students have the opportunity to design their own meaningful projects and curious pathways.

After-School

Our after-school program is open to students in all grades and provides extended care after the school day is over, where students can study, rest, or play. Students may also participate in a variety of enrichment classes including, tennis, light engineering and dance. (Classes vary from session to session).

Transportation

We offer express morning and afternoon bus service to and from north of Golden Gate Park, as well as a late afternoon bus route to Noe Valley. We also facilitate a carpool program, in which families can connect with one another to set up morning and afternoon carpools for their children. For more information about our bus program, please email afterschool@sfbrandeis.org.

Athletics

Athletics are an integral part of our educational program. Middle school students have the opportunity to participate in cross country, volleyball, basketball, soccer, and track and field. The athletics program is designed to help student-athletes develop the tools necessary for healthy competition, collaboration, teamwork, lifelong personal growth, and self-fulfillment. These tools include self-discipline, the ability to work as a team, perseverance, the desire to play fair, and grace in winning and losing. We strive to provide our student-athletes with athletic experiences that enhance their experience at Brandeis and inspire them to lead lives of learning and purpose.
