A Tale of Two Babies with Minister Dennis Ashely

A TALE

DENNISASHLEY

MINISTER

"The authorship of this story has always been a little muddled. For several years people tried to credit Wayne Dyer as the original author, but Dyer said on several occasions he didn't write it. People have also credited Matthew Warner, Pablo Moilinero, and Henri J.W.

Nouwen. Because the authorship seems murky, writers have added to it. In this instance, Dennis Ashley included a new idea that it doesn't really matter if one of the babies didn't believe in the mother; she loved them both equally anyway. Nobody gets punished for being wrong.

AUTHOR?

IN A MOTHER’S WOMB LAY TWO BABIES.

One turned to the other and asked:

“Do you believe in life after delivery?”

The other replied, “Absolutely! There has to be something after delivery. Maybe we are here to prepare ourselves for what happens next.” Nonsense,” says the other.

“There is no life after delivery".

“I don’t know, more light, more people, different experiences than here. Maybe we will walk with our legs and eat from our mouths.” The other said, “Now you’re just being stupid. Walking is impossible. And eat with our mouths? Ridiculous.”

“I think there is something OUT THERE and maybe it’s different than it is here.”

The other stared, “No one has ever come back from OUT THERE. Delivery is the end of life, and in the after-delivery it is nothing but darkness and it takes us nowhere.”

“Well, I don’t know,” said the other, “but I believe we will see mother and she will take care of us. ”

MOTHER

If there is a Mother, where is she now?”

“I think she is all around us. She is everywhere. It is in our Mother that we live and move and breathe and have our being. Without her there would not be this world.”

“Well, I’m looking all around right now and I’ve gotta tell you, I don’t see her. And if we can’t see her, logic tells us she doesn’t exist.”

“Mother?!” You believe in The Mother?

when I’m silent I can hear her, I can sense her. It is almost as if our whole universe is her, breathing in and breathing out, rising up and down. I believe there is a reality after delivery and we ’ re here to prepare ourselves for that reality.”

UNIVERSE

“What do you think all this change means?”asked the first baby.

“It means that our stay in this world is drawing to an end,”said the second.

“But I don’t want to go, ”said the first “I want to stay here always.”

”responded the one. We have seen evidence that others were here before us and none of them have returned to tell us that there is life after delivery.” And the other said, “Delivery will come and we will move towards a light, and there will be open arms and smiling faces there to greet us.”

DELIVERY

AND SO, THE ONE FELL INTO DEEP DESPAIR SAYING, “HAVE YOU EVER SEEN OUR MOTHER?” SAID THE ONE. “MAYBE SHE LIVES IN OUR MINDS. MAYBE WE MADE HER UP BECAUSE THE IDEA MADE US FEEL GOOD.”

THUS, WHILE ONE DESPAIRED, THE OTHER LOVED THE IDEA OF BIRTH, PLACING ALL TRUST IN THE MOTHER

..Hours passed into days and days fell into weeks, and then it was time. Both knew that their…birth was at hand. And one feared what was not known but somehow the other was excited about what was not known.

And they cried as they moved into the light. They gasped for air. They opened up their eyes and found themselves cradled in the warm love of the mother. They lay openmouthed, awestruck at the beauty of this mother whom they had never seen before.”

UNSEEN TO SEEN

HEAVEN ON EARTH

Dennis Ashley nine to fived it in the corporate universe for 20 years, as a consultant and trainer. He was a natural in the field, good enough to be named the Trainer of the Year for the entire nation a few years back (OK, OK, quite a few years back). In addition, Oregon honored him as Consultant of the Year. But he ditched the corporate world out of sheer boredom. Much like one of the babies in the story, Dennis simply knew there had to be something else some endeavor more important, more essential to who and what we are. So he has earned his stripes as a minister for the last 15 years, currently serving as the pastor of The Unity Center of Spiritual Growth in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
