O u r Ma nufa ct ur ing We have one of the largest bespoke lighting factories in the UK running to 38,000sq ft. Nowhere else in the UK will you find such comprehensive dedicated lighting manufacturing facilities under one roof – from a glass workshop creating fused and slumped shapes, to a laser cutter and CNC routing machine creating a myriad range of options in metal and wood. This means we have full control over the complete production process, offering maximum flexibility in terms of design options. This is why we have developed many truly stunning installations and pieces while offering industry leading lead times. Materials We can work with a wide range of materials to achieve the desired lighting results. Using our extensive supplier network, we can also help you source more unusual options such as bone china and reclaimed items. We can advise on the appropriate choice of materials. This is particularly important for large-scale installations where weight and maintenance are critical factors. Finishes Our finishes range from a simple colour spray or powder coat in any RAL colour to more complex variations such as patinated or verdigris finishes in our Metallurgy range. Most finishes are done in-house using specialist equipment, ensuring speed and precision of deliveries. Glass-work Our glass and crystal products can either be specially manufactured or sprayed to match most colours. We can also offer finishes to clear glass such as sandblasting, frosting and etching.

O n e Park D riv e - B ay Lo n d on Designers: Goddard Littlefair Photography: Gareth Gardner One Park Drive is one of London’s most exciting and eagerly-awaited developments; an iconic new 58-storey residential building by international architects Herzog & de Meuron in Canary Wharf’s New District. Goddard Littlefair has created the designs for two different areas of the three-section circular building, Cluster and Bay, with each typology comprised of studio, 1, 2 and 3-bed spaces. Northern Lights were invited by Goddard Littlefair to create the decorative lighting for the Bay apartments and worked closely alongside them in realising their designs for the scheme. The bedside pendants were fabricated using fine brass cones, painstakingly soldered together and finished with an oiled bronze patina. An opal glass shade, mirroring the brass cone shape was then screwed to the metal part providing the soft illumination of the fitting which is partially diffused by a free blown glass smoke barrel shaped shade. Suspended either side of the bed in clusters of three they create a perfect accent within the room. The table lamp to the dressing table was the most challenging to manufacture. A mild steel square section was highly polished after end caps were precisely welded and acid used to create a linear effect in variations of rich dark black, emerald and blue colours. Decorative brass panels were laser cut, antiqued and carefully fixed to the steel centre body. Mounted on a stepped plinth the contrasting metal finishes of this intricate design, with its mid-century influences works perfectly in this space.

7

The bedside lamps are a variation of our Marcade design. We adapted these into a tiered shape and finished them in bronze and carbonne – a rich stone effect created using polished steel, and part of our new Metallurgy range. Simple linen shades completed the lamp and harmonised with the fabrics and textures in the scheme. The Floor lamp was designed with an integral table top and fabricated from steel with brass accents. A striking linear silhouette, strengthened by decorative cross struts to the table top, this lamp designed by Goddard Littlefair is incredibly versatile and has been used in several of their projects. These lights illustrate the breadth of our manufacturing abilities and the skill of our in-house design team. This is how we can work and support award winning interior design practices such as Goddard Littlefair and help to realise their visions.

L an s dow n e P l a c e D ub lin Designer: Goddard Littlefair Photography: Lansdowne Place We were delighted to work with Goddard Littlefair on the prestigious Lansdowne Place development. They were tasked with the interior design of the marketing suite and 215-apartment luxury residential development for client Chartered Land in the prestigious Ballsbridge area of Dublin. Goddard Littlefair are renowned for their five-star fit-outs and have recently been rewarded for their work, by winning industry awards including Interior Designer of the Year at the 2017 Build Awards. The 14m-high, three-storey marketing suite is now open, and the phased selling of the development has commenced, with the first apartments ready in 2018. These range from one-bed, two-bed and three-bed apartments to penthouses. The interior concept references nearby Georgian and Victorian properties in terms of proportions and finishes and is rich and contemporary in feel, with granite balconies, solid walnut units, marble or natural stone bathrooms and the most exclusive kitchens ever offered in the Irish residential apartment sector. Most have been sold off-plan with a swish marketing suite constructed to show off the level of finish and dĂŠcor options from Goddard Littlefair. We worked on many designs in the marketing suites and penthouses, from beautifully detailed solid marble bedside lights with accents of bronze to alabaster bathroom lights, with a strong Art Deco influence.

The Chandelier in the living room features a series of intricately welded arms creating a frame for the Smoke glass spheres which are positioned in various directions on the frame work. As with all the interior spaces, the design by Goddard Littlefair, is perfectly harmonious with the other materials used and the antique brass patina to the real brass framework complements the other materials and fabrics used in the room. In the dining area, over the table, a line of square brass box shades with clear glass panels frame the elegant chandelier contained within. These fittings were fabricated in real brass with a brushed finish. Inserts were added to the inside corners so the brushed finish was continuous inside and out. This is the level of detail required by Goddard Littlefair for all their projects and was applied to all lighting we supplied. In another apartment we supplied both the kitchen lights and feature pendant to the living area. This interior was heavily accented with dark walnut furniture and kitchen units. The opal glass and brass kitchen counter lights provided a soft illumination which contrasted well with the dark wood. The lights were dimmable, so the area was also functional for food preparation. The feature pendant to the lounge is comprised of random square and rectangle hessian coloured linen shades branching out at different angles from a central brass stem creating an attractive and interesting cluster of shapes.

13

Again, using brushed brass, a bedside light with a matt opal globe shade adds an accent of simple contemporary elegance to a bedroom accessorised with opulent satin cushions and an open weave cotton throw. A neutral colour palette of rich greys and taupes complement all the materials used. In another living room we created a feature pendant from multiple real brass tubes with a brushed effect, illuminated by mini globe lamps. This design by Goddard Littlefair incorporates lots of angle and movement and is a natural focal point of the room.

14

15

16

Amongst the other fittings, we supplied were complicated, faceted bedside lamps fabricated in mild steel for perfect angles and clean seams. These were then electro plated in real brass to ensure a highly polished mirror effect. A perfect contrast for the natural fabrics and subtle colour palette. Also in this bedroom (pictured) is a floor lamp constructed in brass and finished in bronze and antique brass. Clearly influenced by mid century designs, it provides a warm ambient light perfect for the space. The chandeliers and ceiling fittings we realised from Goddard Littlefair’s design inspirations, were fabricated by our skilled team of artisans in brass and finished in brushed, antiqued and bronze patinas. These finishes with the matt opal glass globes or spun brass shades perfectly complemented the stunning detailing of their scheme and the materials they sourced. Brass, and bronze finishes were a strong highlight throughout the interior schemes we manufactured and supplied. These finishes were enhanced by the decorative elements of sculptures and vessels perfectly chosen and put together by the Goddard Littlefair design team.

Hi lton P u ckr up Hal l Te w ke s bur y Designers: Central Design Studio Photography: Central Design Studio A Grade II listed building near the Cotswolds, the aim at Puckrup Hall was to create a restaurant and bar with a modern, British feel. Central Design Studio’s inspiration was drawn from the colours and textures of the nearby countryside. Coupled with a contemporary take on the warmth, comfort and welcome of a well-appointed country house. Working closely with Central Design, we looked at various ways to meet their brief and create statement pieces that were both relevant and sympathetic to the interior and illuminated with a soft ambient light conducive to the dining area. The design of circular reeded glass pendants was chosen for the bar and restaurant areas. Large circular pendants for the dining room and smaller multiple arm pendants for the bar area. Constructed from steel rolled metal frames with supporting struts to hold the slumped glass, the large drum chandeliers were interspersed over the central dining spaces to create a strong focal point within the main room. The ambience is warm and continuously inviting over the dining areas within the space.

18

19

The Bar pendant is a variation of the restaurant chandelier and is comprised of six smaller circular drums also using the slumped reeded glass and finished with the same attention to detail that perfectly complements the larger design. Finished with a soft brushed antique brass effect the Art Deco influences work beautifully with the original features in this elegant and considered interior by Central Design. Our design team and skilled inhouse artisans appreciate the need to be versatile and sensitive to realise a multitude of design solutions – so apt for the project.

Th e Veni c e Simplon- O ri ent -E xpre ss E u ro pe Designers: Wimberly Interiors Photography: Wimberly Interiors Nothing conjures up images of opulence and glamour as much as the famous Orient Express. When Northern Lights were approached by Wimberly Interiors to create fittings for this iconic project we were honoured to become part of this train’s great history. We were asked to work on the new ‘Grand suites’. These suites introduced a new level of luxury on the world’s most famous train, bringing together craftsmanship from many designers and manufacturers that have truly mastered their art. The designers were tasked with capturing the spirit of Istanbul for one of the Grand Suites. The Arabesque architecture and intricate decorations both external and internal to the buildings of the city was captured by focussing on the details required. Elements such as hand-carved timbers, embossed leathers and the fine intricate fretwork on our wall light, helped the designer achieve the demands of a very challenging brief.

23

This wall light is made from the finest quality brass that helped us achieve superior soldered joints. The mirror behind the fitting meant there was nowhere to hide seams and each elements of the design had to be considered. We applied our knowledge and skills we have developed in the cruise ship industry, to ensure there was no chance of noise coming from vibration of fittings during travel. All fixings were designed to be hidden and the stepped back plate was carefully designed to reflect the Arabic patterns found elsewhere in the cabin. The second ‘Grand suite’ we worked on was the Venetian suite. The grandeur of this beautiful city is interwoven into the silk fabrics, hues of silver and grey, and hand-crafted Venetian glass adorning the baroque-style furnishings and fittings. The wall light in the bathroom was designed to be suitable for the wet environment without sacrificing style or glamour. The highly polished brass finish complements the inlays of brass found throughout the rest of the suite. Belmond was recently nominated in the ‘Civic, Culture & Transport’ category for The Venice Simplon-Orient Express at the INSIDE awards.

Designer: Daniel Monk Photography: Tim Atkins Working closely with the designer Daniel Monk, Northern Lights realised his effortlessly elegant designs for the new café style restaurant in Belsize Park. Inspired by owner David S. Levin’s passion for exceptional kosher cooking, Tish is the fulfilment of his lifelong dream to create a relaxed setting where people can make the most of quality time with family and friends in a light and airy space that is both cosy and stylish. The layout and functionality of the room is very Parisian brasserie inspired, enhanced with quirky prints and a bold and calming colour palette. Working with brass for all fittings, the Northern Lights team of skilled craftspeople were able to realise the complex fabrication to meet Daniel’s expectations and deliver his designs. Allan Terry, one of Northern Lights senior designers, worked closely with Daniel regarding the design intent and continuously developed the manufacturing approach to accommodate the key elements of Daniel’s vision. Allan was also liaising with Alex Ballard from Acelux who managed the project for the client. He worked closely with Acelux to produce the most accurate dimensions possible, whilst incorporating a degree of flexibility his team to position the fittings effectively.

27

The high ceilings of the room frame the wall lights and chandeliers allowing them to be a real focal point of this beautiful interior. Inspired by Art Deco styles and fittings from last century, the wall lights and chandeliers have sweeping arms, fine detailing, and are finished in brass with hand blown matt opal spheres which softly illuminate the interior space. Refining the subtle detailing which give the chandelier and wall lights their identity was tricky; Bespoke components required manufacturing from solid brass to achieve an elegant yet distinct visual, complementing Tish’s decor. The use of matte opal glass globes, creates a light illumination source, which adds to the elegance of the interior designed by Daniel. The chandeliers required a precise design approach. Each of the chandelier arms required the same intricate detailing as the wall light arms but were to be easily removable for transit. Critically on the client side, each arm then needed to be installed without leaving large gaps of tolerance, to keep in line with the high quality vision Daniel expected from his interior scheme. Utilising unorthodox manufacturing methods, Northern Lights managed to satisfy Daniel’s design brief. The criteria for the wall lights was exacting - demanding a high degree of precision and craftsmanship to achieve the seamless connection between formed tubes - that we are proud to have achieved.

28

Northern Lights were also commissioned to make the frames for the decorative and functional bar shelving, integrating lighting to complement and repeat both the wall lights and chandeliers. The decorative brass elements all tie in together to give the impression of a family of products. Utilising the same matte opal glass globes used on the chandelier and wall lights meant a continuation of the relaxing ambience around both the bar and food pass areas was possible. At the same time this generated a functional intimate light source. Adhering to the elegant and delicate design intent, the shelving detail was modified until Northern Lights were satisfied with the structural integrity for use, whilst being sensitive not to negate the beautiful surroundings. Delicacy was paramount for the outcome of these shelving units, so laser cut mild steel was layered and finished in a dark bronze to complement the brushed brass of the decorative uprights between each shelf. Tempered low iron glass with a chamfer was then added on top of each shelf, which complemented the laser cut shelves. This design detail allows the light to pass through giving the impression of weightlessness and delicacy. As with the chandelier, the shelving design required a high degree of skill as this was being attached to a beautiful (and expensive) marble counter top. The fitting had to be created to allow for dismantling and construction without jeopardising the precision needed. The result is a stunning interior and dining area by Daniel Monk with bold and unusual detailing which make this restaurant quite unique. Northern Lights were pleased to help realise these fabulous designs the complement the interior space.

O ph e em for Akt ar Isl am Birming h am Designers: Tibbatts Abel Photography: Marmo Designs Working again with successful commercial and hospitality designers, Tibbatts Abel, we were pleased to supply all the decorative light installations and fittings for the new Opheem restaurant in Birmingham by the award-winning Chef Aktar Islam. Taking influences from centuries of Royal Court Chefs, Aktar Islam is pushing the boundaries of imaginative and progressive Indian recipes combining the best seasonal ingredients from the British Isles. His attention to detail doesn’t just stop with his award-winning food, he has applied that same creative thinking to the entire dining experience at Opheem. His attention to detail for his restaurants is as fastidious as his sublime and creative cooking. Even the entrance to the restaurant was thoroughly tested with Aktar, tweaking the door so it closed perfectly behind customers - clearly a big believer of ‘first impressions matter’. This is even more apparent when you are first confronted with the stunning interior. The door opens to a Pink cherry blossom tree contrasting against the concrete rendering found throughout. The cast bronze art work adorning every wall is inspired by the raw elements in his food and the cloud like feature creates warmth from above. Every single detail considered, and refined, closely by Aktar himself.

33

In terms of the lighting, the star of the show is the huge cloud-like features which span the dining areas. The scale of these features really allows them to make a massive impact with no expense being spared on the detail. The hand-formed brass shapes create a nest which is peppered with matt opal spheres that helps create an ambience rarely seen in fine dining. It is rare that a customer is torn between taking pictures of the lights above them and the gorgeous Michelin style food in front of them. The column light in the main bar was a personal focus of Aktar. We were tasked in creating something that was seamless and reflected the ‘halo’ style logo that represented Opheem. The challenge to create this was welcomed by Northern lights. Such passion and attention to detail by the end user gave us the opportunity to innovate and develop our own in-house manufacturing methods. Highly polished brass greets new arrivals and its rich deep tones suggest that this is no normal Indian restaurant. The stunning feature ring pendant adorns the reception area and complements the accents of brass used everywhere whilst contrasting beautifully with the concrete walls. Measuring around two metres in diameter, it is rolled in steel for strength and rigidity and clad in brass, finished with a soft brushed effect. Using dimmable LEDs to illuminate this space it is both a subtle and eyecatching piece. We also supplied custom track lighting to highlight the bar and custom artwork – we adapted and replaced standard generic shades in black with rich brass fittings, that could be easily adjusted. This prestigious dining destination has opened to fantastic reviews and we were delighted to work with Tibbatts Abel and Aktar Islam, to help realise their visions.

Han s B ar & Gri l l Lo n d on Designers: Goddard Littlefair Photographer: Gareth Gardner Hans’ Bar & Grill is a neighbourhood restaurant in Chelsea’s Pavilion Road, conceived by the team behind Chewton Glen, Lygon Arms, Cliveden and 11 Cadogan Gardens. The 106-cover venue is made up of a café-bar and extended restaurant, including a wine display area and newly-covered former courtyard space, within the 11 Cadogan Gardens hotel. The restaurant was named in honour of Cadogan family ascendant Sir Hans Sloane, one-time physician to the royal family and President of The Royal Society. Hans’ has its streak of opulence too; while the sky-lit dining room fitted out with parquet, velvet and marble tables by Goddard Littlefair is smart-casual, the gold-hued back room lined with wine bottles ups the stakes considerably. We were delighted to work with Goddard Littlefair and create the bespoke, shallow brushed brass chandeliers, custom-made for the project. They add instant glamour, with one situated in the wine room and the other in the rear restaurant section that follows and completes the scheme. These ring Chandeliers have become a design for which we are renown and we supply several bespoke variations of this popular yet timeless piece of feature lighting every month for a diverse range of projects. The Goddard Littlefair ring pendant is both elegant and refined. It was finished in brass and softly lit with warm LEDs, which complemented the stunning interior scheme.
