Parks Recreation & Culture

Welcome to the Mission Leisure Centre

A Message from the Mayor Welcome to the Fall/ Winter edition of the Leisure Guide for 2019/2020. The early days of Fall offer lots of opportunities to visit community parks, and take in an outdoor concert or special event. All of these events rely on the hard work and creative energy of many community volunteers so please support their efforts and enjoy all that the season has to offer. Walking is one of the very best and least expensive ways to get active. I encourage you to join me as I continue to host walking events led by our Parks, Recreation & Culture staff. Short or long,

uphill or downhill, these walks are a great community event that will serve to keep us all fit and healthy so please watch for future Walk Mission events.

Please visit our website for the most up-todate schedules, events & holiday hours.

Staff continue to work hard to address the needs of our growing community. New this season will be earlier Sunday morning hours at the Leisure Centre, and a new registration process for Club Kids.

Sport for life begins with Mission Parks, Recreation & Culture Mission Parks, Recreation & Culture wants to set everyone up for the healthiest life possible and physical literacy plays a role in this. Just like learning to read & write, children must learn the building blocks of movement to help them put their best foot forward for participation in sport & physical activity later in life. Canadian Sport for Life physical literacy principles help guide fundamental development in skills. These skills include:

¥¥ Throwing ¥¥ Catching ¥¥ Jumping ¥¥ Swimming ¥¥ Running ¥¥ Balancing ¥¥ Coordination

Preschool/Children

Gymnastics - Introduction (3-5yrs) Channel your preschoolers energy as they work on their physical milestones in this gymnastics class geared for them. Parent participation required.

With residents enjoying the outdoors and residential developments advancing further into habitats, it is everyone’s responsibility to make sure that we stay a safe distance from each other. Respect all wildlife, never surprise, approach or attempt to feed wildlife. Keep children and pets close at all times.
