The world is your masterpiece...behind your welding helmet. Combine your passion for welding with an artistic edge. In this course you will explore the fundamentals of a career in welding by practicing the safe use of welding equipment, trying wire feed welding and learning various fabrication processes. A Career in Construction

Occupational Area: Construction (CON) Learn how to develop your own design ideas and take them through the fabrication process, resulting in your very own completed product. You will have access to proper safety training in both hand and industrial power tools regardless of your level of experience. Grab the tools, supplies, and get building. DATES July 6 - 17

Building Operator Certification

Occupational Area: Custodial Services / Work Experience “School Janitor: the quiet hero of the school. They are always the first to arrive each day, cleans up messes no one dares to touch and befriends everyone that passes by.” ~Teresa Kwant With four days of classroom work mixed with six days of real life work experience (Work Experience credits) in an EPSB school, you will learn how to successfully manage the custodial work of a school facility. Learn floor, washroom, carpet and wall care while you achieve your Building Operator Certificate. Students must be entering or have just completed Grade 12. You will fill your toolbox of knowledge by using different tools, gaining an overall understanding of mechanics and completing basic repairs on a motorcycle. Rev it up. Like many careers in design, they create appealing images to the human eye. In the Art & Design Lab you will develop your aesthetic skills by examining and applying the elements of design. Creating 2D and 3D art and collaborating on a final group project will provide you opportunities to develop your communication and problem-solving skills: skills highly valued by a potential employer. In this course you will learn how to determine a client’s needs and create high quality prints. Occupational Area: Communication Technology (COM) Some of the most famous and captivating photographs are of people. Behind these photographs are Editorial Photographers: experts in revealing the pure emotions and personalities of their human subjects. Become a master storyteller from behind your camera in this course that will teach you how to become a professional photographer. Working with people in the community you will create compelling images based on personal narratives, while adding design and communication skills to your camera bag along the way. Explore career opportunities in the world of culinary arts while you learn your way around an industrial kitchen, plan a weekly menu and create nutritionally balanced meals. Prepare classic and inventive recipes for your toughest food critics yet: young campers! DATES LOCATION CREDITS PROGRAM MATERIALS July 6 - 17 Camp Van-Es 4 $40 $89 Students are required to be dropped off and picked up at Camp Van-Es (51244 Range Rd 220, Sherwood Park, AB T8E 1G9) located 20 km from the south east corner of Anthony Henday. It is possible to stay overnight at a rate of $25 per night including dinner and breakfast.

Occupational Area: Foods (FOD) Love to cook? In this course you will learn about life in the culinary profession. Beginning with kitchen safety, you will become confident in and know your way around the kitchen. Cybersecurity is a fast growing industry worldwide. It involves the protection of systems and data that are connected to the internet. In this summer course learn some basics of cyber-security including Python programming, Windows security, the Linux operating system and basic network infrastructure. This class will also explore binary exploitation, cryptography, network forensics, reverse engineering and web exploitation while participating in capture the flag problems.

Get your hands dirty this summer! If you love plants and want to learn about potential careers in horticulture, this course is for you. Through guest experts and hands-on experiences, you will learn about plant identification, soil nutrition, the mechanics of composting and the art of landscaping. Program Eligibility Courses are open to students who have completed grade 9 to students who are under 20 years of age as of Sept. 1, 2019.

Class Schedule All classes run 8:30 am - 3:40 pm for the date ranges shown in the program guide. 2-credit courses are one week. 4-credit courses are two weeks. Students may wish to bring their own lunch due to course location.

Program Fee Program and materials fees vary by course and are stated in the program guide. When you register, you are required to pay all fees for each course.

Transfers A $40 processing fee per course is charged for a student-requested transfer.

Cancellations Metro reserves the right to cancel any course. If Metro cancels a course, a full refund will be issued. Refunds may take up to four weeks.

Special Accommodations If you require special provisions, please contact a Metro counsellor at 780.428.1111.

Attendance Students must attend all classes. Non-attendance does not constitute a withdrawal. Metro reserves the right to post final marks for any student who has participated in 50% of the course / module.

Withdrawals If you withdraw before your course begins, your $40 program fee will be withheld and 100% of your materials fee will be refunded. No refunds will be issued after the start of the course.

Out of District Students If you do not attend an Edmonton Public School you must provide identification and proof of address.
