Epson has announced its new SurePress L-6534VW UV digital label press, which is available for purchase, is on display Granted SGP at the Epson Demo Center in Carson, California. Epson Puts SurePress L-6534VW Label Press on Display Epson has announced its new SurePress L-6534VW UV digital label press, which is available for purchase, is on display at the Epson Demo Center in Carson, California. Designed for label converters investing in a digital label press for the first time or looking to expand production facilities, the SurePress L-6534VW offers different print speed modes including Standard mode (98 feet per minute) and Productivity mode (164 feet per minute). The LED UV inkjet press comes standard with all the functions required for label production, including a Corona Treater, white ink, digital varnish, and an additional UV curing unit. The company says the new press also has an expanded feature set, including the unique Digital Varnish and reliable automated operation. Epson is also offering a conversion kit for the existing SurePress L6034VW. As for the availability of the new press, Epsons says one SurePress L-6534VW model is currently available under promotional terms; Epson says the company also plans to sell at least a few of the SurePress L-6034VW models at special pricing, at least during the first few months of the roll-out period.

LED UV Ink: quick-drying UV ink helps enhance productivity, the LED light source also saves space and offers low energy use, enabling printing on heat-sensitive substrates;

Precision Core Linehead: Enables high-speed, single-pass printing and Nozzle Verification Technology to automatically check and manage inkjet nozzles;

White Ink: In White ink printing, Surface White Print, and Reverse-White Print are available to extend the range of expression on clear and metalized films;

Koenig & Bauer Announce HP PageWide T1190 Press Installation in Japan Koenig & Bauer has announced the successful commissioning of the first HP PageWide T1190 Press to be installed in Asia. Rengo Co., Ltd (Osaka, Japan), one of the leading Japanese packaging suppliers, celebrated the start of production on the press with a grand ceremony in August. Rengo says this was also the first time the widest digital printing press in the world had been supplied in a six-color version, and so far the company has had no problems using the press. “Since the commissioning, the press has been fulfilling all our prior expectations in terms of performance,” says Junjiro Watanabe, General Manager for technical development at Rengo.” Watanabe says the new press is helping the company be more competitive in the packaging market. “More and more customers are demanding individualized and personalized packaging. This means producers must accommodate faster throughput times and shorter runs, while at the same time meeting high quality demands. Designer Parfums and Formula One Racing Launch New Fragrance Brand in 3-D Printed Bottles Printing a simple glass bottle using 3-D technology is easy to do these days, but creating glass art to hold (and sell) perfume is not. The Latest Word Kodak Premiers UTECO Sapphire EVO W

Kodak has announced the company’s ULTRASTREAM Inkjet Technology is a vital part of the new UTECO Sapphire EVO W, the first flexible packaging press to enter the market using this inkjet technology. The device, which Kodak plans to feature at drupa 2020, has a print width of 1.25 meters and will be available for purchase following the show. Uteco Converting SpA is the largest Italian manufacturer of flexographic presses.

Intec Announces FB8000 PRO Flatbed Cutter

Intec Printing Solutions Limited has announced the FB8000PRO, the company’s second generation of automated digital die cutting systems. New features include new intelligent cutting algorithms, touch screen control panel, QR code reading job library enhancements, and a wider range of media options.

Doug Edwards Joins EFI as CTO

EFI has announced the company has hired veteran print technology executive Dr. Douglas Edwards to be its Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Edwards replaces Ghilad Dziesietnik, who recently retired after nearly 25 years with EFI, the last 14 as CTO. Immediately prior to this appointment, Edwards was Chief Executive Offiver of Xaar plc and Chairman of Xaar 3D Ltd, the company’s 3-D printing joint venture with Stratasys. Before joining Xaar in 2015 Edwards was President of Kodak’s Digital Printing and Enterprise Business with responsibility for flexo packaging, functional printing, electrophotographic solutions, commercial, and consumer inkjet solutions with combined revenues of around $800 million. Prior to this, Edwards ran Kodak’s largest graphics business, Prepress Solutions, with revenues of $1.5 billion. Edwards joined Kodak from Kodak Polychrome Graphics (KPG), a 50/50 joint venture between Eastman Kodak and Sun Chemical Corporation, where he was Vice President of Research and Development. He has also held senior research and leadership

roles with International Paper, Zeneca Specialties (formerly ICI Colors and Fine Chemicals), and Ilford Photographic Ltd in the United Kingdom. Edwards, who is based in EFI’s Manchester, New Hampshire facility, has a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and a Ph.D. in conducting organic materials, both from London University. He has several patents and has written scientific papers and books in topics such as solid-state conductivity and photographic materials. He has also published research in textile dyeing including work on the aqueous solution behavior of anionic azo dyes for textile fibers.

Smyth Companies Granted SGP Certification

The Sustainable Green Printing Partnership (SGP) has announced Smyth Companies (Bedford,Virginia) has been certified as an SGP Printer.This is Smyth Companies’ first location to become SGP certified, but the printing company plans to continue its efforts to have more of its printing plants certified. Smyth says the company “looks forward to using best practices outlined by SGP to enhance its processes for making socially responsible decisions which positively impact the environment, providing its customers with sustainable supply chain options, and safeguarding the health and safety of its employees.”

Netpak (Anjou, Quebec Canada) has adopted the complete EFI Packaging Suite for folding carton production, the first North American printing company to do so. United Carton Industries Company (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia) has installed an EFI Nozomi C18000 six-color, single-pass LED inkjet printer. Grafica Veneta (Trebaseleghe, Italy) has purchased a C48 press from Koenig & Bauer is to be installed alongside the two Compacta 618 presses the company already owns.
