HEALTH & SAFETY (DISPLAY SCREEN EQUIPMENT) REGULATIONS 1992 Workstation Analysis / Assessment Checklist Name: Unit/Department: Workstation Element SCREEN Are the characters on the screen well defined and clearly formed? Are the characters of adequate size with adequate spacing between the lines and characters? Is the image on the screen stable, e.g. no flicker? Is the brightness and the contrast between the characters and the background easily adjustable, and is it easily adjustable to ambient conditions? Does the screen swivel and tilt easily and freely to suit the needs of the operator? Is it possible to use as separate base for the screen or an adjustable table Is the screen free of reflective glare and reflections liable to cause discomfort? Is the screen clean? KEYBOARD Is the keyboard tiltable and separate from the screen, allowing a comfortable working position, avoiding fatigue in arms and hands? Is the space in front of the keyboard sufficient to provide support for hands and arms? Does the keyboard have a matt surface to avoid reflective glare?

Are the symbols on the keys adequately contrasted and easy to see from the working position? WORK CHAIR Is the height of the chair adjustable? Is the height of the back of the chair adjustable in both height and tilt? Is the mechanism for making the above adjustments easy and safe to use? Are the legs on the chair stable? Is a foot rest available for use? WORKING ENVIRONMENT Is the workstation positioned and designed to provide sufficient space for movement? Is the lighting in the office sufficient and well positioned for your own personal requirement? Is the workstation positioned to avoid glare or reflections from artificial light? Is the workstation positioned so that you are not affected by glare of sunlight through windows? Are the windows fitted with blinds that can be easily adjusted? Is the noise emitted by the equipment belonging to the workstation distracting or a disturbance? Does your workstation produce excess heat which causes you discomfort? Are there adequate levels of humidity?


Are all cables and wires attached to the workstation and associated equipment safe and secure? WORKDESK OR SURFACE Is the desk or work surface large enough?

Does the desk or work surface have a low reflective hue? Is a document holder available for viewing documents? ARE THERE ANY OTHER RELEVANT FACTORS TO BE CONSIDERED? (Please Specify)
