Similarly, every Lindal is personalized to reflect and anticipate each client’s evolving lifestyle through a planning process that honors budget as highly as site. The Lindal Building System Lindal’s venerable position as industry leader is due, in part, to a uniquely capable building system. The ability to genuinely customize for site and lifestyle; to design open, lofty, and flexible interiors; to further personalize and regionalize through scores of material options; and the ability to deliver efficiently worldwide require a building system that thinks and behaves outside the box. The Lindal pre-engineered post and beam building system, crafted of beautifully radiant sustainable wood and engineered wood products, is the product of innovation and continuous improvement. Well detailed and time-tested, it confidently carries the industry’s only Lifetime Structural Warranty. Resource and energy efficient, produced and constructed to minimize waste, the Lindal system earned the distinction of being designated the first Green Approved building system by the Home Innovation Research Labs, formerly known as the National

Altius 2540 Ideally suited for a side sloping site, this tri-level design is loaded with personality. The entry level is devoted entirely to cooking and eating, socializing around the oversized island, and lingering at the dining table in front of the roaring fire. An exterior wall of glass slides out of view to seamlessly extend this level out to a large covered living area for year round use. Up a half level is the owners’ domain, which contains the home's living room, positioned here for every day use-morning, noon, and night-by the adult members of the family. The lowest level, with direct access to the yard, contains secondary bedrooms and a gathering space for children or guests. 10

Altius 2740 This hillside home will accomodate a large family or a house full of weekend guests with up to five spacious bedrooms on two levels. The entry level is primarily a large wrap-around gathering and entertaining area. The dining room, kitchen and sitting area each have at least two exposures. The low slope monopitch roof over the communal areas extends its ascent outside the living room to create a large covered outdoor deck that can be enclosed as a screened porch. The master suite is on the entry level as well. On the lower level, built into the sloping terrain, secondary bedrooms, baths, and gathering area have direct access to the outside and with the inclusion of a small kitchenette, this level could function as a separate and complete dwelling unit. 14

Vandervort 2400 A wonderfully modern interpretation of a classic A-frame design creates a strikingly asymmetrical form. A thirty-foot long walk-in dormer frames the primary view, while triangular shaped windows wrap the corner and open the fireplace wall to the view dramatically. Freestanding peeled log posts and laminated beams and girders and cedar ceilings on one side of the roof emphasize the asymetrical A-frame volume and add a radiant warmth to the interior. Two wings, joined by a flat roof-covered patio, the open breezeway connector to the garage and the rooftop dormers, all contribute to the inviting, human- scaled, cottage-like approach. 36

Vandervort 2970 This beautifully gracious design is actually two ground-hugging hip roofed “huts, capped with light monitors that welcome ever-changing daylight into interior portions of the home and give both the living room and master bedroom sleeping areas unique senses of place within their open volumes. The open communal wing is organized under one hip roof and enjoys views to the front and rear and into the open glass roofed terrace that serves the living room and private master bedroom wing. The optional glass canopied entry stoop opens into a transparent gallery that also shares the terrace court and the views beyond. Ideally suited for sloping sites, the secondary living areas are nestled into a hillside for efficiency and to retain the low profile of the design. 38

This design can be built with an extended formal entry or over a large walkout lower level for hillside sites, both options are preplanned for total compatibility with the spirit of the original design.

Dowling 2230 The disciplined symmetry and the interplay of solids and voids exude strength in the Dowling 2230 design. Private interior spaces are organized symmetrically around a large central living area that enjoys clear views of the front and rear landscapes. The Lindal post and beam structure enables deep overhangs for shade and protection from the elements. A dual master suite, divided into distinct sleeping and lounging or working spaces can be opened into one large domain. Two additional bedrooms with ensuite baths on the opposite end are ideal for family or guest retreats. Large lift and slide doors open each space to the natural environment beyond and are positioned to maintain privacy for all.

Dowling 3720 This bold two-story design offers many options for living and changing lifestyles. Consider it at first as a six-bedroom beach house for families to gather and relax. The main living area is open to the view with access to the exterior from two sides. The Lindal roof and beams extend the living areas on both the front and back elevations and provide shade from the summer sun. Six bedrooms, perhaps. The two ground floor spaces in the two story wing are ideal for den and office or first floor sleeping and lounging for those who prefer one level living The upper level bedrooms may be used as two master suites for those two families sharing ownership or four generous bedrooms which enjoy access to the roof deck above the first floor living area. A carport with outside storage may easily be converted to a garage.

Taliesin 2050 A modern interpretation of a popular early 20th Century American Four-Square home, this design contains four living spaces on the ground floor. In this design, the front and rear rooms are slid past each other to create sheltered corners, one forming the front entry, the other a large terrace. In both areas beam extensions serve as structure for sunshading. In the Taliesin 2050, two story living aeas provide full views of the rear yard. The master suite on the front of the home maintains its privacy by placing transom windows high on the walls. To accommodate different solar orientations on different building sites, the modern overhang/sunscreen combination will be designed specifically to shelter windows on the south and west elevations. 52

Taliesin 2060 Another variation on the traditional Four Square, the Taliesin 2060 is for sites with minimal views and a need for privacy. The “front room’ or living room, overlooks the front yard and street while the master bedroom faces the rear yard. A full wall of glass doors offers views and access to the patio and yard. The upper level bedrooms are accessed by an open ladder staircase and through a sitting area/study that overlooks the two-story living room and share its volume, daylight, and views. This design features an open carport that can be converted to a garage. 56

Taliesin 2400 The most important space in this design isn’t in the house. An ideal solution where privacy from the street or neighboring houses is an important criterion, the L-shaped design creates an enclosed yard, which is enjoyed from every room on the entry level. With such focus, the house creates its own view of landscaping, a water element, outdoor lounging and dining area. The home's front entry is located here, accessed through a covered gateway, further underscoring the importance of this outdoor space. The rambling main level offers three distinct zones of living. The central communal zone flows freely to the outdoor space and transitions into the master suite on one side and, on the other, a homework zone with a home professional office. The secondary bedrooms are located on the lower level, ideally nestled into a gently sloping hillside. 60

Taliesin 2410 This design is about relaxed living that enjoys an intimate relationship with the outdoors. The main level is a complete family living environment in 1600 square feet. A covered entry garden opens into open dining and living areas that extend to a large covered terrace. The living room is filled with defused light under its gently sloping roof with clerestory windows on three sides. Every space on this level provides direct access to shaded outdoor areas. This design also speaks to modern living with an 800 square foot living suite on the lower level to accommodate multi-generational living. The suite has its own private entrance as well as direct access to the main level above. A kitchenette would provide for totally independent living. The main level of the Taliesin 2410 is available as a single level design in 1610 square feet. 64

Taliesin 2840 Soar with the eagles. This is a mountain lodge boldly re-imagined. Anchored to the ground by only six masonry piers that rise through the interior, pierce the roof and then topped with a gull-winged design, this striking retreat appears to be taking flight. The two-story living room, transparent on three elevations is a viewing platform to the natural environment beyond. The open cross-work of roof beams that give the roof its form speak to the enduring strength of a post and beam mountainside retreat. 66

Taliesin 3320 Throughout the day, the stunning gull-wing roof shades the clerestory windows that run the full perimeter of this hillside masterpiece, creating a softly lit interior that changes with the hour and the season. At night the windows, glowing from within, give the roof the illusion of floating above the house. An open interior with few walls enables the free flow of light and space and full views to the natural landscape below. The grand kitchen and dining area, with natural cross ventilation provided by two walls of glass doors, replaces the traditional living room, and is ideal for large group cooking and entertaining, while quiet seating pods to the side provide for smaller group conversation and relaxation. 70

The Taliesin Mod.Fab™ Nearly one-third of American households are multigenerational, an important social phenomenon that brings aging parents back into the home as an alternative to assisted living, as well as young adults who are saving for their own home or benefiting from at-home childcare for their preschool children. Marmol Radziner 2415 An international style, one-level residence with deep roofed colonnades that shade the home’s expansive walls of glass, is ideal for a relatively flat site. The center section, transparent to front and rear, houses the large and free flowing communal areas of the house in a softy lit thirteen-foot high volume, is flanked on one side with a private master wing and on the other by a guest wing with up to three generous bedrooms. Together they enclose a private rear yard and capture views beyond. The one level MR 2415 is similar in spirit to the MR 2460 and 3290 that follow.
