Introduction Lindal Cedar Homes 70551 ON

For seven decades, Lindal Cedar Homes has built its legendary reputation for quality, environmental responsibility and personalized service, continually improving its products and fulfillment process to reflect contemporary client needs. With over 50,000 completed projects worldwide, Lindal’s experience, the refinement of its building system, and its expertise in site-based design and engineering have no peer.

39407 VA

Every Lindal celebrates your site’s natural features, each home designed to act in harmony with the path of the sun, the topography, prevailing winds and existing vegetation. Green from the ground up, environmental responsibility adds value to every client’s Lindal home. Similarly, every Lindal is personalized to reflect and anticipate each client’s evolving lifestyle through a planning process that honors budget as highly as site. Given the complexity of today’s environment, this can only be accomplished through caring and informed local service, which Lindal’s international network of over 125

independent dealers provides.

The Lindal Building System Lindal’s venerable position as industry leader is due, in part, to a uniquely capable building system. The ability to genuinely customize for site and lifestyle; to design open, lofty, and flexible interiors; to further personalize and regionalize through scores of material options; and the ability to deliver efficiently worldwide require a building system that thinks and behaves outside the box. The Lindal pre-engineered post and beam building system, crafted of beautifully radiant sustainable wood and engineered wood products, is the product of innovation and continuous improvement. Well-detailed and time-tested, it confidently carries the industry’s only Lifetime Structural Warranty. Resource and energy efficient, produced and constructed to minimize waste, the Lindal system earned the distinction of being designated the first Green Approved building system by the Home Innovation Research Labs, formerly known as the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB) Research Center.

DIDYMA 2000 The Didyma (meaning Twins) is a single continuous vaulted space with a master bedroom volume separating private from public patio space. The monopitch roof floats above a band of clerestory windows that flood the space with daylight. A horizontal level above the doors and main windows connects all the walls and flat ceilings. This results in a calm composition that anchors the main volume to the ground, while the two roofs rising in opposite directions create a dynamic visual crowning of the home.

THOLOS 2088 The Tholos (meaning Vault) has a single continuous vaulted space with a master bedroom volume separating private from public patio space. With options for either a shed or a butterfly roof, this design uses clerestory windows both on the exterior walls and the interior cross-walls to generate a sense of unified space with partitions, rather than a series of boxed-in spaces. This design is easily expandable.

HESTIA 2246 Hestia (meaning Inner Court), the hearth of the ancient Athenian home, was an open courtyard that housed the fire. This design wraps around an open, intimate court. The bedrooms and office are off the glass corridor around the courtyard. A full band of clerestory windows above the great room uplifts the living, dining and kitchen spaces. The use of extended interior horizontal “decks in these areas conforms to the Elements design system while allowing for a sense of scale in the high ceiling space. Indirect lighting on the decks can generate a comforting atmosphere at night.

GAMMA 2297 The Gamma (meaning Three-space Corner) is designed for a sloping view site; the design forms a tall great room with a bedroom wing. The two wings allow for a corner patio that extends the interior spaces to the views and enhances indoor/outdoor living. The right angle arrangement affords an exterior view of half of the house from either side, with sloping or flat roof options. As with all designs, the Elements grid is expressed in the exterior design by the disciplined placement of doors and windows.

Diplo means double, but not necessarily identical. URBAN ONE 1565 The restrictions of an urban lot seem to disappear when you take inspiration from our modern Urban Series of homes. Designed especially for narrow lots, with or without views, these homes present a private facade at street level and to the sides of the home, while the living room opens to a cathedral ceiling. Easily adaptable, this home allows for numerous design options with one, two, and three bedroom floor plans. If you have a sloped lot you can add another 1040 sq. ft. with an optional daylight basement. This medium-sized design further illustrates the flexibility available with the Elements building system. All in all, this Urban series allows maximum seclusion with an elegant outlook on city living. Two and three bedroom Urban designs are shown on pages 42-43.

EMERALD 1637 The great room of this modest-sized home features a two-story living room with lofty glass corners framing a full height fireplace. The upper area is shown with one large bedroom suite, but is suitable for two bedrooms or a generous entertainment area for billiards. The master suite is on the main floor and features a generous master bath and dressing area. A sloping site would enable an optional garage and bedrooms under the home, efficiently adding up to another 1400 square feet.

PARK 1725 Designed to minimize impact to a coastal site and to elevate all living space above coastal flooding, this small gem is built on piles. The main level living area is an open great room in which shifting volumes and varied ceiling heights subtly distinguish kitchen, dining, and living areas. Three upper level bedrooms all enjoy the primary view, and a large entertainment-sized roof deck above the living room, accessed from the large decks below, provides sweeping views above neighboring houses and trees. A family beach house that lives large, while overcoming most size and height limitations in just a bit over 1700 square feet and 25 feet in height.

SEAFOAM 2010 The Seafoam 2010 is a flexible and well-zoned design created by joining five simple elements. The main twostory element contains a large communal area for cooking, dining and entertaining with a commodious guest suite or secondary bedroom above. The two-story dining area could easily become a great room seating area to complement the large living area with fireplace and views on three orientations. The master suite zone is accessed through a butler’s pantry work zone for middle-of-the-night snacking, morning coffee, or quiet desk work.

MARIS 2435 Ideally suited for building sites with north-facing slopes, the pitched living area roof and kitchen act as a light scoop and admit sunlight into this hillside design. A large covered deck, carefully positioned to avoid obstructing views from the glass-walled great room or shading the lower level living areas, enables outdoor living, even in inclement weather. The detached accessory dwelling unit enables privacy for independent multigenerational living, home office, social, or crafts space. Carefully sited relative to the main house, the two buildings can define and partially enclose a private yard in an otherwise open site.

CASCADE 2493 A butterfly roof is the ultimate design element of the Cascade 2493. This type of roof was first made popular in the late 50's and became a staple of mid-century modern design in southern California. The main floor of this beautiful design houses a large master suite and office with another two bedrooms on the upper level. An additional 484 square foot studio, with dedicated entry, is located above the garage and is perfect for multigenerational living or rental space. POLARIS 2568 Originally designed for a sloping site with two major views, this hillside design reveals itself slowly. Stepping out from under the covered entry deck into the floating entry foyer, a full view to the exterior is a nice surprise. Turning toward the main living areas, the flat-roofed, intimately scaled kitchen and dining areas give way to a living room and den that share fireplaces and reach up to capture views under the home's only sloped roof. A den provides a quiet buffer to the flat-roofed master suite. The hillside lower level maximizes efficiency and provides generous naturally lit living space for children, multi-generational living, or a spacious home office suite.

TAURUS 2670 This design is capped with a low sloped hip roof with overhangs that extend over five feet beyond the full-glass view walls. The overhangs ensure daylong shade during the summer but still admit sunlight in the winter months. The extensive exterior decks are tucked under the overhangs, enabling comfortable outdoor living, rain or shine. The decks shade the full wall of glass on the lower level. Inside, the open great room, a full 32 feet square, is topped with an unusual post-and-beam hipped canopy that provides additional volume without sacrificing human scale. The extraordinary Lindal laminated beams and tongue and groove cedar roof liner that provide daytime shade envelop the space in a wonderful warm glow each evening.

A modern home set respectfully in a traditional suburban neighborhood, designed for a narrow site by Michael Harris, creator of the Elements program. Familiar house forms are updated with steel that wraps the roof and sidewalls seamlessly. Projections from the main house forms and the entry link are clad in warm cedar clapboards. The three main volumes, shifted past each other, create private side and rear yards in a house only 36' wide. The entry link connects the main house with a private home office suite, master suite, or apartment for multigenerational living and opens into an enclosed courtyard for relaxed outdoor living and entertaining.

AQUILA 2925 Designed to replace an aging rambler on a beautifully landscaped quarter-acre site, this modern family home ensures privacy from neighbors within a continually sunbathed interior. The exterior is respectfully finished with beveled cedar clapboards and native stone. The sloping monopitch roof above the one-and-a-half story great room crowns the roofscape and welcomes ever-changing light patterns from sunrise to sunset. The dining room, childrens’ bedroom wing and casual den with nine foot ceilings surround the lofty great room, which enjoys full access to a stone terrace with a soothing water feature through 28 foot wide lift-and-slide doors, unifying the interior and lush exterior. A second floor master suite retreat and deck enjoy a view of the city skyline and an optional basement can be added for an additional 2315 square feet.

TUCANA 4010 Situated on a prime 90-acre tract with a large man-made lake, this primary residence is a dream come true for our Lindal homeowners. The couple asked Jim Bartholomew, the architect who designed their prior residence, to create a unique home that would embrace their love of art and family. Working with their Lindal dealer, Jim created this contemporary 4000 sq. ft. home, designed within the Elements building system, to take full advantage of the views of their four acre lake. The home boasts red oak floors throughout and has three bedrooms, a study, and media and playrooms with lots of built-in storage. The decks measure 700 square feet.
