Investment by definition is the act of devoting time, effort, energy or finances to a particular undertaking with the expectation of a worthwhile result. We can invest in a lot of things, such as our community, our relationships, our finances and our health with the hope that the effort will have a positive impact.

We can invest in our community by supporting our local businesses, schools and local organizations. We can serve the community through volunteerism and investment in future generations. On a larger scale, we can participate in public surveys and stay educated and involved with future city planning. Investing in our finances helps create wealth, meets longterm financial goals and secures our retirement. On a personal level, we can invest in our families and enrich relationships by giving time and effort to the people in our lives that mean the most to us. This type of investment has the most meaningful impact to not only ourselves but to the people closest to us.

While investing in ourselves, relationships, community and finances can look very different from person to person, the effort we put into these areas of our lives are done with the common goal of having a positive impact that yields results. In this edition, we wanted to share about some of the ways that we can invest in our community, our finances and with those that we love.

Our commitment is to you the community.

With Gratitude,

April 2024

NEW EXECUTIVE CHEF

PATTON PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED BY CASA DON ALFONSO

Chef Eduardo Marquez Now Leads Culinary Team At Casa Don Alfonso In Clayton
18
Chef Eduardo Marquez

Chef Eduardo Marquez was named the new executive chef of Casa Don Alfonso in Clayton, the elevated Southern Italian eatery located within The Ritz-Carlton.

"I'm excited to contribute to St. Louis' vibrant hospitality landscape and encourage innovation while working alongside Casa Don Alfonso's talented team. I knew when I accepted this position that I'd be joining the best in the hospitality industry, and I'm eager to recreate the authentic recipes passed down through generations of the Iccarino family," says Chef Eduardo.

Since opening during March of 2021, Casa Don Alfonso offers the recipes and traditions to St. Louis of the acclaimed Iccarino family, who've operated the famed Don Alfonso 1890 in the heart of Sant' Agata, Italy, for the past four generations. The menu honors the culinary heritage of the Campania region with seasonal ingredients that closely resemble the produce harvested at the Iaccarino family's farm.

Chef Eduardo vows to carry on these traditions and continue to collaborate with the team in Lorenzo, Italy, for seasonal menus, citing that the ziti pasta option is his favorite pick for "the most amazing, flavorful, impactful dish."

He joins the existing Casa Don Alfonso kitchen team, which includes tenured chefs from around the world. The chef steps into a leadership role alongside the general manager of Casa Don Alfonso, Greg Gerber, and the manager of fine dining, Ardi Dulaku.

"We're a family. I spend all day here, and this is important to me for everyone to have fun," he adds.

Greg says, "We're thrilled to have Chef Marquez join the team, especially because of his extensive background at The Ritz-Carlton properties. We know we can trust him to uphold our standards of excellence and hospitality to deliver the authentic Southern Italian cuisine that we pride ourselves on."

Over a 15-year culinary career, Chef Eduardo has worked at several national and international locations of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel, which he says has given him experience in creating a multitude of cuisines and flavors.

Chef Eduardo says he started his career as a cook at The Ritz-Carlton, Chile. During his tenure with The Ritz-Carlton, he performed progressively in different positions within the culinary field. In 2017, he was promoted to restaurant chef at The Ritz-Carlton, Virgin Island, and one year later became specialty chef at The Ritz-Carlton, Rancho Mirage, before becoming specialty chef at The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe. Most recently, he worked as the executive sous chef at The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach.

Chef Eduardo obtained a gastronomy degree from College Arturo Alessandri Palma, and a business administration and global economy degree from Universidad Católica Silva Henriquez. He's been recognized as Five Star Leader of the Quarter and Annual Five Star as a supervisor. He also worked at the restaurant that received the National Award for Best Restaurant and Cuisine in Chile from Weekend Magazine Chile in 2009.

"I see the chance to collaborate with Casa Don Alfonso as an opportunity to create a nurturing atmosphere, guiding and supporting this team while collaborating with the finest in St. Louis' hospitality sector," he confirms.

He says one of the best aspects of working at the restaurant is having direct connections and conversations with guests.

Casa Don Alfonso is open for breakfast; lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays; and dinner from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays through Saturdays and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

HOW INVESTING IN BUSINESS TRANSFORMS BRANDS

ILLUMINATION PR OWNER SUGGESTS HOW TO CAPTURE ATTENTION, MAKE LASTING IMPRESSIONS AND GROW COMPANY

"A good reputation not only helps attract attention but also inspires trust in potential customers," says Robyn Bordes, owner of Illumination PR, a trailblazing public relations and digital marketing firm whose New York-based professionals specialize in lifestyle, beauty, health care and health/wellness sectors, including clients in the St. Louis region. Brand reputation is the public perception of a brand or company based on its history, customer service and public presence. Robyn says it’s an

important factor in the success of any business, as it yields insight into the quality and reliability of products or services that may affect consumer purchase decisions.

"When customers trust your brand, they're more likely to make a purchase or become loyal customers who support your business for years," she adds.

Robyn says her firm has a 95% client retention rate. "We attribute that to consistent client satisfaction, combined with our entire staff's work ethic. If you have a good experience with a business, you may share that with two to three people; if you have a negative experience, you may share with 10 people. Maintaining client trust and confidence contributes to market position and reputation in a competitive market."

Understanding an industry's demographics and price points are some of the other essential factors when investing resources in a company, Robyn asserts.

Regarding business development, she says, "It's important to diversify and choose multiple channels within your target market, using different campaign strategies and graphics, and then reviewing the ROI that each channel produced to then target."

Additionally, social media channels can spread awareness and capture attention within a specified demographic by using hashtags, understanding algorithms and trending captions.

"The landscape of business is ever-changing and constantly evolving. It's important to easily adapt to adjusting strategies to seize opportunities," Robyn encourages.

‘CLEAN LIVING’ SUCCESS RECIPE

Advice Editorial: Invest In Protecting Personal Consumption, Body, Home

Consumption:

• Choose organic, whole foods with few ingredients as possible to avoid pesticides and additives.

• Read labels carefully; avoid processed foods with artificial ingredients (sweeteners, fillers, stabilizers, thickeners, hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup, artificial flavors and colorants).

• Get personal water tested and choose a filter based on results.

• Opt for high-quality supplements, as cheaper options may contain inferior or synthetic ingredients, which can be less effectively absorbed by the body.

Body Products:

• Use natural skin care and personal care products, free from harsh chemicals.

• Check for certifications such as USDA Organic and EWG Verified. Use apps like Yuka to check for clean ingredients.

• Consider DIY skin care using simple, natural ingredients like butters, oils, essential oils and waxes.

Home Environment:

• Use eco-friendly cleaning products made from natural ingredients. Beware of greenwashed products.

• Invest in air purifiers to improve indoor air quality.

• Consider DIY, low-tox cleaning kit with vinegar, baking soda, castile soap, salts and quality essential oils.

Investing Wisely In Homes

Design Expert Marcia Moore Highlights Best Home Areas On Which To Spend Money

Investing in a home with designs that highlight personal style while complimenting how one lives is a great way to add value for potential resale and enjoy that home every day.

As more people work remotely, the need for home offices has surged. With just a few tweaks, an unused living room or bedroom can be transformed into an inviting, invigorating workspace or library.

Custom cabinetry creating a library/storage wall on one side, and a television, desk and filing space on the other, allows a room to be used as an office, TV/den or a guest room.

"In this kitchen with a very high ceiling, we created architectural detail and depth by adding coffers," says Marcia Moore, owner and creative director of Marcia Moore Design. "Additional upper cabinets filled the extra space, and the custom range hood creates a dramatic focal point."

In a bath remodel, Marcia highlighted the tub area with a differing porcelain tile and turned the tub, so bathers can enjoy the view outside.

Marcia’s clients wanted the lower level to work for every family member. Anchoring the area with a fireplace, Marcia created a sitting/TV area on one side, and a workout space with a juice/liquor bar on the other. Behind the fireplace, a game room and pool table are front and center. Varied types of flooring delineate the different spaces.

Designer Kathleen Matthews created a sunroom that works in all seasons with inviting windows, a ceiling fan and a fireplace. A bank of doors folding into each other provides an open wall allowing nature inside.

“While resale value should take second place to creating a home that works for your current needs, it's always something to keep in mind, as we never know where life will lead us,” Marcia says. “The kiss of death for resale is an outdated trendy home. My best advice is to invest in classic features and use trends sparingly.”

STOKING LOCAL TOURISM

One doesn't have to be a first-time visitor to marvel at the entertainment opportunities offered by the Gateway to the West area. And, there's one set of local professionals tasked with seeing the region through new perspectives each day. As the official travel and tourism platform for St. Louis, 'Explore St. Louis' initiatives

and staff are covered by 11/15 of funding derived from a 3.75 percent tax paid by visitors on transient lodging in St. Louis City and County.

As the St. Louis region's official destination marketing organization, Explore St. Louis' initiatives and efforts focus on promoting the region as a must-visit destination, states Catherine Neville, Explore St. Louis vice president of communications. The team does so through varied marketing means, from traditional advertising to hosting national media tours.

A study conducted by the University of Missouri-St. Louis indicated that activities of Explore St. Louis directly contribute $5.9 billion to the local economy on an annual basis, Catherine adds.

"We're dedicated to raising the St. Louis region's profile and promoting the city we love as a bucket-list

destination," Catherine says. "Whether visiting for a Cardinals game, experiencing our world-class arts scene or digging into our award-winning culinary spots, St. Louis offers visitors and locals unforgettable experiences."

She says 28.2 million visitors come to St. Louis annually for leisure, conventions, meetings or business travel. "Tourism provides jobs for 90,000 area residents, with those tourism workers earning $3.4 billion in wages yearly," she adds.

The industry generates $1.1 billion in local, state and federal taxes each year, Catherine shares, with each household in St. Louis City and County receiving $1,201 a year in tax savings as a result of travel and tourism.

DINING AT HOME

Take a fun and creatively unique approach to saving money on high-dollar restaurant meals by reimagining your patio as an outdoor bistro. Set the table with fresh flowers, printed napkins, placemats, candles and instrumental music on a portable speaker. It’s all about creating a special vibe for the night.

Fresh cut flowers from a garden add an inviting touch, especially if hosting guests. Spring and summer periods are the perfect time to enjoy one’s home for an evening rather than driving to a crowded spot with long wait times.

“Dining at home has many perks: from better controlling the nutrition of meals and dressing however fits the mood to eating in private at any time of the night; plus it usually costs significantly less.”

Choose a theme for the meal, perhaps using travel or a book story as inspiration. If you’ve been to a certain region on a memorable vacation, or if you’re planning one, wine from that location can make the dinner feel especially momentous.

FREEDOM From PAIN

A new option is now available for those living with pain. Regenerative Therapy is an innovative technology designed to activate a body’s own healing. The goal is to repair and regenerate damaged tissues without the use of medication or procedures, such as injections and surgery.

This approach is accomplished by triggering a body’s own natural healing power to repair injured tissues, decrease inflammation and decrease pain. The advantages are faster healing, non-invasive, less downtime, drug-free and most effective pain relief.

HouseFit offers EMTT and Radial Shockwave, both of which are approved by the FDA.

This has been a game changer for those living with chronic pain. People who have tried everything else out there without success are now seeing amazing results. We are giving people their lives back.

Patients are experiencing significant improvements in a few short weeks, allowing them the freedom to return to a life without pain. Investing in one's health today will pay dividends in the long run. Phone 314.939.1377 for a free session.

SEEDING BEST NEW IDEAS TO CREATE A WORLD WITHOUT CANCER

The St. Louis region’s largest peer-to-peer fundraising event has found a new home. Formed solely for the purpose of ultimately “curing all cancers for everyone,” Pedal the Cause will hold its 15-year celebration and ride weekend Sept. 21-22 at the Family Arena in St. Charles.

Pedal the Cause has donated nearly $46 million—from 38,000 riders collecting more than 450,000 donations—in its

14-year history to fund adult and pediatric cancer projects. “Working to create a world without cancer,” the nonprofit organization held its most successful fundraising effort ever last year and donated more than $5 million to be used for the best new ideas in cancer research.

Pedal the Cause was founded by twotime lymphoma survivor, Bill Koman, who received treatment from the Siteman

Cancer Center in St. Louis. The nonprofit organization began and continues to follow the bold model of using 100 percent of participant-raised donations to fund critical cancer research.

To date, Pedal the Cause has funded 219 cancer projects producing groundbreaking results that lead to new treatments, cures, preventions and early detection diagnostics. “This ‘100 percent model’ is

made possible by the generous support of sponsors, led by presenting sponsor Edward Jones,” says Eleanor Goedeke, director of communications and marketing for Pedal the Cause.

“The hope is that we are finding treatments and cures that we can share with the world and that will ultimately lead to a cure for cancer.”

For every dollar Pedal the Cause donates to cancer research, an additional $12 on average is obtained through outside funding to continue this research, garnering $550 million for cancer research since 2010.

“Pedal the Cause has made a significant impact on my research and allowed me to pursue research that has been first of its kind not only regionally but also nationally and internationally,” says Katherine Fuh, M.D., surgeon and assistant professor in obstetrics and gynecology at Washington University School of Medicine. “The most promising result has been discovering a new pathway in ovarian cancer that causes cancer to spread. This could mean treating a patient with a drug to block the spread of cancer.”

Through its annual cycling challenge, Pedal the Cause provides funding for

cancer research in its earliest stages at Siteman Cancer Center, ranked a top 10 cancer center nationally by U.S. News & World Report,  and Siteman Kids at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.

“Cancer research projects typically aren’t eligible for large federal or private grants until they have proven their initial concept,” Eleanor says. “Pedal the Cause donations ‘seed’ the best ideas to allow the cultivation of proof of concept and critical data. Over time, these projects have produced groundbreaking results that lead to new treatments, preventions and early detection diagnostics.”

Since 2010, Pedal the Cause dollars have accelerated research exploring, among other things, personalized vaccines, the genetics and DNA of cancers, and exciting developments in immunotherapy such as CAR-T and natural killer cell therapies.

Registration for Pedal the Cause 2024 opens March 25. Participants can ride, spin, volunteer, be an “Inspired” virtual participant or a Kids Challenge rider. Ten courses include distances of 10 to 100 miles.

“We have so much to look forward to,” says Pedal the Cause Executive Director David Drier. “Our new home in St. Charles is emblematic of our growth as a regional event. Our courses cross three counties, two states and two major rivers. Not only will the courses provide a safer, less crowded and scenic experience for our riders, but our new home gives us room to continue to expand and therefore increase our donation each year to fund vital cancer research. In our new home, the sky is the limit.”

Renewal By Andersen Professionals Help Homeowners Preserve And Protect Home Equity 50

As window and door replacement experts, the team at Renewal by Andersen of St. Louis assists homeowners and commercial business managers with quality, innovative and custom-crafted solutions.

"There are a lot of reasons why Renewal by Andersen has been named highest in customer satisfaction in window and patio door manufacturer brands by J.D. Power not just once, but four years in a row. But none of them could happen without our excellent folks on the manufacturing floor, who build the windows with care

and precision," says Ken Biddle, chief operating officer for the locally owned company.

For patio doors, this team handles both hinged and sliding French doors, as well as sliding contemporary and hinged-series doors.

For windows, they can take care of the full spectrum: specialty, double-hung, casement, bay, picture, sliding and awning windows. The company's team has nine exterior color options and hundreds of exterior and interior variations from which to select.

Renewal by Andersen is the start-to-finish window replacement division of Andersen Corporation, a company that has revolutionized the window and door business for more than 120-plus years.

Ken says their process begins with a complimentary in-home consultation to secure customer's needs and objectives, along with a visualizer tool. During the second step of the process, project technicians ensure accuracy and answer any last-minute questions before sending in the order for each set of customized windows.

"We then custom-make beautiful, energy-efficient windows made of Fibrex, Renewal’s proprietary material that is 200 percent stronger than vinyl, and professionally install them for optimal performance. Finally, we back both the products and installation with the nation's best warranty coverage, providing customers peace of mind for years to come," he adds.

In online customer reviews, many people point toward Renewal's 'white-glove signature service,' as well as the friendly and professional installation crews, who customers state they are able to explain what they are doing and to answer all questions.

"Homeowners also recapture a good portion of their investments in Renewal by Andersen windows and doors, because it's easier to sell a house with our products installed," observes Ken.

The Renewal team also cares about St. Louis as a community by donating funds and resources to important nonprofits such as American Cancer
