A Tradition Unlike Any Other

As many anticipate the green jacket ceremony on  April 14 in Augusta, this issue of Canton's Lifestyle is dedicated to the profound and enduring value of investing in oneself and others. A tradition that should be unlike any other.

In its most accurate form, luxury is not merely about lavish possessions but rather a state of mind, an experience that enriches our lives and those of the people around us. This month, our Canton team delves into the investment concept and explores how personal growth, spirituality, wellness, and knowledge contribute to the ultimate lifestyle.

I enjoyed watching the editing team weave wild stories of juxtaposition—a  Muay Thai MMA champ with one of most recognizable Church Pastors in North GA . The athletic director of Reinhardt University interlaced with a cancer-surviving local artist. Insights of individuals who have made meaningful investments in their lives for a profession and those who have dedicated themselves to investing in our community.

Of course, an investment issue would not be complete without addressing wealth and the next generation. As it says in Proverbs: Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it. I am thankful we have wise financial advisors partnering with us who focus on people above the process. The Boys and Girls Club of Canton, located off exit 14 (on Univeter), under the new leadership of Monica Lopez, has a massive event in April you can invest in to help build our next generation.

This Canton winter has officially ended, I think, and April is upon us all. As you navigate this issue, it may inspire you to consider enhancing your life with more intention and contributing more deeply to your surroundings. After all, true affluence lies not just in what we accumulate but in the positive influence we leave on the world.

Here's to Chubbs, wherever he is, and to a month of meaningful investments, personal growth, and shared prosperity.

Your City, Your Lifestyle.

Life-Long Investing: Spiritual and Physical Growth

BEING A LIGHT IN THE DARK
MUST SEE | LIFE + CULTURE 12
““Our purpose is going to involve serving others, making a difference in other people’s lives.”

Two men invested in our local communities come together to share how their journeys of growth have impacted their beliefs and commitment to inspiring others to develop themselves. Chuck Ramsey and Keenan Clark each have unique stories and flavors to share with us about how to push ourselves to grow spiritually and physically.

When asked how one should invest in themselves spiritually, Chuck Ramsey, lead pastor at Restoration Church, answers in true pastoral fashion, offering a story from the Bible about a man in history who had everything according to worldly standards, yet everything wasn’t enough.

“Solomon, the wealthiest man to ever live had it all fantasies fulfilled, palatial splendor, unending resources, and when he wrote Ecclesiastes, he was frustrated that everything he had tried had failed to fulfill him. He concluded that God has put eternity into our hearts. St. Augustine also said, our hearts are restless until they find you, and so, my experience is, mankind is searching for something; in fact, he's craving it, and it's something that only God can give.”

This observation of the human dilemma in trying to fill an ever-present spiritual void with the world’s promises of satisfaction in relationships, alcohol, or something else is, according to Chuck, “man suppressing the truth. There is nothing man can accumulate to fill that hole. We were created to find something that satisfies, but in our own capacity, we can't find it.”

So, how do we realize this profound spiritual truth? According to Chuck, “Often it's a low point that mankind wakes up and says, I’ve got to take care of what really matters- the hole in my heart.” Chuck believes that deep down, the soul knows he is wired eternally, and while sometimes it takes coming to the end of ourselves, God also uses the beauty of this

world to arouse this awakening. “It’s called natural revelation,” Chuck explains that when our souls light up to a breathtaking view of a sunset, an ocean, or a mountain top, or the indescribable joy of a child being born, those are all God-inspired moments that reveal Himself to us on this earth.

So, we know that God is seeking us, but how can we intentionally seek him in practical ways? “God has given each of us a calling- a purpose to fulfill- something that can help me not just live in the temporary here and now, but something with eternal meaning. We're not here just to enjoy the fine things of life. Our purpose will involve serving others and making a difference in other people's lives. And in that- there is a great reward.”

Chuck continues with good news, “The Bible says that “Jesus stands at the door and knocks. He says, if anybody will just open the door, I'll come in and dine with you.” And that is- I'll come in, and we'll have a real intimate relationship. He's knowable, and he wants you to experience him personally and then within the community.”

And so, how do you nurture that and stay spiritually fit? Put God in the places of your heart that can only be filled by him, read the Bible, find your purpose through Him, and live out that love in your community. “It's in community that we get to live out and experience the love of God. Those are our two basic needs: to know and be known, to love and be loved.” The result is sincere experience and transformed lives. “It’s a beautiful thing,” Chuck says, “-literally heaven on earth.”

Investing in oneself physically has been a way of life for Keenan Clark. Best known in the community as owner of Clark Salon and Spa in Canton, GA, a family business that began in 1978 with his father Billy, Keenan mastered the techniques of color and style

and fed his entrepreneurial spirit by expanding into spa and wellness, all to satisfy a deeper passion of his: physical fitness. “For years and even from behind my salon chair, I have coached and inspired others into personal health and wellness goals.”

Keenan and his wife Bonnie met at Coffee’s Gym in 1998. Life took them on an adventure of building a

business and raising a family, but their shared pursuit of fitness stayed constant through many phases, and now they are ready to pay it forward.

2023 gifted Keenan with the opportunity to finally pursue his lifelong dream of opening a gym, and the Clarks made plans to renovate the salon and spa to accommodate the new Torch MMA and Fitness.

“The businesses are not connected, but they do complement each other. We already offer spa and recovery services that will cater to the athletes at Torch. Our family hair salon will continue to promote wellness and self-care in the beauty industry.”

Keenan explains, “The Torch is the oldest tool in history to light up dark places, and we are called to be light. Our light shines the brightest when we are our healthiest. Investing in your physical health will positively impact your mental and spiritual health because it’s all connected.”

“Torch is not a traditional gym. We have a much more innovative and effective conditioning style: train like a fighter, and you’ll get in the best shape of your life. Torch will have all-level combat classes as well as conditioning, yoga, and youth classes to combat bullying.”  The head striking coach, Warren “The Destroyer” Thompson, has many accolades as a professional fighter and coach and is excited to bring his expertise to his home of Cherokee County.

“We fight for what is good in this world and pass it on,“ Keenan says, “We are TORCHES.”

Pastor Chuck Ramsey is the Lead Pastor of Reformation Church, North Atlanta. He believes in the next generation and has a heart to reach our city and beyond with the life-transforming message of Jesus. Restoration Church has ministries for all ages, including seniors. As a Church of God denomination, they welcome the Holy Spirit and the use of the spiritual gifts at Restoration Church in a fitting and orderly way. Come and See: Restorationchurch.faith

Keenan Clark is the second generation owner of Clark Salon and Spa, located in The Market at BridgeMill shopping center on Bells Ferry Rd in Canton. Over the past two decades, Keenan and his wife Bonnie have expanded the hair and nail salon to offer massage therapy, floatation therapy, fire & ice contrast therapy, and a vitality booth with halo salt therapy and red light therapy. We are excited to celebrate the Clark's gym addition to the Salon. Visit: ClarkSalon.com

Finding Strength Through Art and Academics

REDEFINING BOUNDARIES USING CREATIVITY AND ATHLETICISM

Lindsey Wolosiewicz's story begins with a daunting diagnosis of Stage 4 cancer in her early twenties, a pivotal moment that propelled her into a 15-year odyssey of courage, faith, and artistic expression. Lindsey is a vested Canton resident whose journey of refinement and rediscovery is a testament to the transformative power of investing in oneself.

Lindsey Wolosiewicz

One would find it hard to fathom the depths Lindsey has navigated to emerge as a vibrant and full-of-life woman. She shares her Renaissance-like narrative, recounting her unapologetic faith in Jesus and her commitment to listening to her body, catalyzing her triumphant return to health. Through the darkness of illness, Lindsey found the light within herself, unlocking a reservoir of creative energy that now manifests in her stunning artworks.

Art, for Lindsey, is more than a form of expression; it is a cathartic journey that allows one to reflect on themselves and the world. She passionately emphasized investing in one's gifts, proclaiming they unveil beauty amid chaos. "Investing in your creative spaces provides a sanctuary—a place to breathe, free of judgment and worry." In her earlier works, a signature barn was a recurring motif in Lindsey's collection. When one inquires about its significance, she thoughtfully responds, "It symbolizes shelter and comfort, but those old run-down sides show weathering and durability." This philosophy reflects why we should invest in our creative sanctuaries—places that endure, offering solace and refuge from the storms of life.

Lindsey's recent creations are an explosion of vibrant color and texture, mirroring the beautiful spirit that radiates through all her art. Her message resonates deeply: investing time in one's accurate passion yields healing, peace, and self-love that the world may not freely bestow.

As we bask in the artistic brilliance, let us unite in supporting the flourishing arts scene in and around Canton. Together, we nurture new generations of artists and visionaries, forging a legacy of hope that transcends mere investment—it's an investment in the essence of the human spirit.

Unlocking our potential is a journey marked by the fusion of artistic expression and structured guidance. Art becomes a tapestry reflecting our deepest aspirations, while coaches and institutions, as custodians of refinement, cultivate the rare and extraordinary. This dynamic interplay unveils an enriched narrative pointed at the precision of guidance, culminating in a masterpiece of excellence. While art serves as a conduit for our inner aspirations, the stewardship of coaches and institutions plays a pivotal role in sculpting our path toward greatness.

True athletes are passionate about their sport and derive inspiration and joy from witnessing others achieve their dreams.

As we travel up the 140 from Riverstone Parkway, we arrive at the dynamic campus of Reinhardt University. Originating as a small institution from 1950, it has steadily become a dynamic learning hub. It envisions a future where it continues to shape global leaders. Today, the university offers over 40 degrees and certification programs catering to students in Georgia and beyond. Amidst the ever-evolving landscape of higher education, Reinhardt stands tall on the foundation of one crucial element: family.

This sense of familial belonging permeates through every aspect of Reinhardt, which is evident in the dedication of its staff and the vibrant campus culture. The commitment to holistic development extends beyond academics to the athletic realm. Jeffrey Pourchier's leadership underscores a commitment to nurturing talent and fostering a sense of camaraderie learned from his day as a basketball player at LaGrange College, GA. As the current Athletic Director, Pourchier champions the values of teamwork and perseverance, creating an environment

where student-athletes excel in their respective sports and evolve as well-rounded individuals. Under his guidance, Reinhardt continues to cultivate a familial spirit where the bonds formed on and off the playing field echo the institution's enduring commitment to the comprehensive growth of its cherished community.

Jennifer Pourchier, as the Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach, adds another layer of passion and dedication to Reinhardt's vibrant campus life. Her journey from a promising young tennis player to a respected coach reflects the university's commitment to nurturing talent. Pourchier's relentless pursuit of excellence is mirrored in her teams, where diversity is celebrated and academic achievement is paramount. The tennis team's exceptional grade point averages testify to their unwavering discipline and collaborative spirit.

Together, Jeffrey and Jennifer Pourchier exemplify the spirit of Reinhardt University—a place where academic and athletic pursuits intertwine seamlessly. By fostering a culture of support and growth, Reinhardt prepares its students for success and enriches the fabric of Cherokee County. It's not just about education; it's about investing in communities and paving the way for a brighter future.

RETIREMENT INCOME PLANNING: MAXIMIZING WEALTH AND LEGACY R

YOU ONLY GET ONE RETIREMENT

Retirement marks the culmination of years of dedication, perseverance and sound financial choices. It's often envisioned as a period of relaxation, exploration and deep connection with family and friends. However, this dream doesn't just manifest. It necessitates forward-thinking and detailed planning, regardless of one's financial status. Amid global economic changes, evolving life expectancies and intricate tax systems, an all-encompassing and strategic retirement plan is more crucial than ever.

A key element of effective retirement planning is diversifying your income sources. While staples like 401(k)s or IRAs are foundational, it's equally important to branch out. Dividend-bearing stocks can provide regular dividends, bonds offer both periodic interest and principal return and real estate, whether directly or indirectly owned, has potential for both rental income and value growth. Private investments can also yield passive income and impressive returns.

ARTICLE COURTESY OF IMPACT WEALTH
EXPERT HELP | FINANCE + LEGAL SERVICES 30

Tax considerations significantly influence retirement strategies. Each financial action, from asset sales to account withdrawals, can carry tax consequences. Knowing these details can greatly influence one's overall retirement income. Tactics such as Roth IRA conversions can help distribute tax liabilities over time, allowing for taxfree withdrawals later on. Using strategies like tax-loss harvesting can balance out capital gains, ensuring proactive steps to reduce tax impact.

SOURCES OF INCOME DURING RETIREMENT

Annuities have long been recognized as a popular retirement income source. An annuity is essentially a financial contract that can offer a steady and predictable income, with options that might even extend to lifetime payouts. Available in varieties like fixed, variable and indexed, they often come with tax advantages. However, retirees should also be aware of certain drawbacks. These might include fees and expenses, issues around liquidity, and potential concerns related to inflation.

Delving into the world of Alternative Investments, retirees can consider assets such as hedge funds, private equity and real assets, among others. These investments may promise higher returns and provide diversification away from traditional stocks and bonds. However, the complexities of these investments mean they often come with challenges like illiquidity, higher fees and the need for a thorough understanding of the investment itself.

Delaware Statutory Trusts (DSTs), while not familiar to everyone, can be a potential retirement income source. Historically rooted, DSTs offer a form of passive real estate investment, which can lead to regular distributions. They also open doors to 1031 exchange possibilities, offering tax deferral benefits. But, just like any other investment, DSTs have their limitations, notably the lack of liquidity and the heavy reliance on trust management.

Introduced by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, Qualified Opportunity Zones (QOZs) were designed to spur economic development. Investing in these zones can lead to deferral, reduction and even the potential elimination of certain capital gains taxes. However, they often require a long-term investment horizon, and retirees must be well-versed with the specifics of the chosen opportunity zone.

Rental income remains a favorite for many looking for consistent returns. Whether through direct property ownership or Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs), real estate can offer passive income, tax benefits and appreciation. Yet, the

responsibilities tied to property management, the uncertainties of market fluctuations and other associated costs must not be ignored.

The backbone of many retirement plans, Social Security Income, provides a safety net for millions. Established with the intent of financial assistance, the amount one receives depends on various factors. There are also strategies retirees can employ to maximize these benefits, such as deciding on the optimal time to claim or considering the implications of working while receiving benefits.

ESTATE PLANNING AND PHILANTHROPY

Beyond the immediate realm of retirement, estate planning emerges. This encompasses not just post-retirement arrangements but also asset distribution for future generations or charitable endeavors. Regularly reviewing wills, trusts and beneficiary designations ensures alignment with changing circumstances.

Philanthropy seamlessly integrates with retirement plans. Beyond fulfilling a personal mission to give back, it also carries financial benefits. Using instruments like donor-advised funds or charitable trusts lets individuals make impactful societal contributions while enjoying tax advantages.

You only get one retirement. In the ever-evolving world of finance, staying updated and flexible is essential to ensure the continued relevance and efficiency of one's retirement strategy.
