Investing In All Areas

Investment by definition is the act of devoting time, effort, energy or finances to a particular undertaking with the expectation of a worthwhile result. We can invest in a lot of things such as our community, our relationships, our finances, and our health with the hope that the effort will have a positive impact. We can invest in our community by supporting our local businesses, schools and local organizations. We can serve the community through volunteerism and investment in future generations. On a larger scale, we can participate in public surveys and stay educated and involved with future city planning. Investing in our finances helps create wealth, meets long-term financial goals and secures our retirement. On a personal level, we can invest in our families and enrich relationships by giving time and effort to the people in our lives that mean the very most to us. And this is the most important investment of all. My life goal for this year is to work smarter, not more!

Friends of Nancy Jarecki gathered to celebrate her 50th birthday celebration! Nancy’s husband, Andrew, fell in love with Thistle Farm’s candle and the message behind it. Thistle Farms staff helped to orchestrate a fun visit to the facility, with snacks provided by The Cafe at Thistle Farms as part of the birthday weekend. The guests spent time with the staff, all of whom are current residents or graduates of the Thistle Farms program, chatting while the celebs tried their hand at pouring candles or bottling lotion, and learned about the work done at Thistle Farms.

Consider the Finer Things, Consider the Wldflwrs

LOCAL LIMELIGHT STYLE + BEAUTY
|
A LOOK INSIDE NASHVILLE'S FAMED FAMILY-OWNED FINE JEWELRY COMPANY
12
PHOTOGRAPHY BY CLARK BREWER PHOTOGRAPHY
““Where jewelry serves as an outward expression of one’s internal beauty.”

Based and born in Nashville, Tennessee, Consider the Wldflwrs is a family-owned fine jewelry company located in the budding area of Edgehill Village. Proud to offer fine jewelry and exceptional service to clients near and far, owners Ben and Emily Eggebrecht enjoy specializing in designing and hand-crafting engagement rings, custom pieces, and jewelry for everyday wear in addition to performing jewelry restoration and repair with their team of experts. A warm and elegant shop in which clients can find or create something sentimental, they love helping clients tell their story through meaningful jewelry that reveals the depth of their heart.

Ben and Emily first met in their sophomore choir class while attending college at Belmont University. While they had both gone to school to pursue careers in the music industry, Emily had always had a passion for designing jewelry and decided to shift her path toward marketing and product design. Emily has always tinkered creatively. Jewelry started to become a passion of hers once she began visiting the Nashville flea market, where she spent a lot of time picking out different types of antiques before modifying the designs of them to rewear. After building a collection of re-made pieces and re-designed heirloom jewelry of her own, Emily then fell in love

with metal smithing and design. She has since studied Bench Jewelry through New Approach School for Jewelers, gotten a Graduate Diamonds certificate from GIA and studied CAD design… all while growing her brand, Consider the Wldflwrs!

When it came time to choose a name for their company, the Bible verse, Luke 12:27 immediately came to mind for Emily. She shares, “I was in a pivotal season of my life where I really felt the Lord was calling me to take a chance. Wildflowers grow and blossom instinctively; they require no seeds, fertilizer, or assistance outside of what’s already present in nature. The same can be said for jewelry and the person who wears it.”

While established in 2013, Ben and Emily opened the first Consider the Wldflwrs storefront in 2018. In the midst of it all, the pair got married and are now the parents of four boys - all under the age of five! Ben explains the emotion and sentiment that is carried through each piece of jewelry, especially now that he is a father. While wearing a pendant engraved with all four of his sons’ names in his own handwriting, Ben shares, “It’s almost like the pieces [are] collecting memories along the way. With it being fine jewelry, it means that in thirty or forty years, I’ll be able to look at the same piece and [think] I wore that when my son was born, or when

I got married. What else can you wear that collects memories like fine jewelry does?”

Creating valuable pieces that will last from generation to generation is a top priority at Consider the Wldflwrs. With quality above all, the intricate details do not go unnoticed when making a piece built to last forever.

From their thoughtful choice of metals to designing a lasting wear, when it comes to making a product timeless, their team truly believes that if a piece is special and unique to you, it will never go out of style. With their expertise and passion for craftsmanship, Consider the Wldflwrs loves helping clients find and create future heirloom pieces tailored to fit their own personal style,

while also building relationships and helping couples find their forever jewelry. From earth-mined diamonds to lab-grown, the Consider the Wldflwrs team enjoys thoroughly walking each client through the process, with no questions left behind or unanswered. As stated on their website, “Diamonds are a symbol of love and beauty… the decision ultimately comes down to what matters most to you as an individual or couple.”

Whether you want to custom design your own piece, choose from their stunning selection, or have a piece repaired, Consider the Wldflwrs is the place for you! For more information, visit  https://considerthewldflwrs.com or follow them on socials @ConsiderTheWldflwrs.

CREATING A 5-STAR SHORT-TERM RENTAL EXPERIENCE

Tips on how to make the most out of your investment property from Shawn Huffman of Legacy Hospitality

CAREER ADVICE | HOME + DESIGN 18

Feel

Allow your guests to feel right at home - if they wanted to stay at a hotel, they would have chosen one. Always remember to be a good host because people remember how they feel when they stay with you!

Smell

"To not smell" like your last guest! Make sure your space smells (and is) clean. An ozone machine can be a very helpful tool for hosts; when cleaning sometimes isn’t enough to remove unwanted odors, ozone machines help purify the air and leave your home smelling brand new!

Touch

Plush towels, soft sheets, and warm beds make for a very comfortable stay. After a long day of travel and exploring, allow your guests to crawl into the comfort of a welcoming room.

Taste

While you may think your guests will want to eat out while vacationing in your home, you may be surprised that many like to stay in and cook. Make sure you have the right kitchen supplies to ensure your guests enjoy every aspect of your home.

Sight

When guests arrive at your home, it's important that it truly looks like the pictures online...or better! Each guest that enters through your door is forming their first impression. Create a space that guarantees it to be a good one!

FAVORITE THINGS TO DO IN NASHVILLE?

Apart from my real estate endeavors, I cherish my roles as a wife and mom. Also, finding joy in attending sporting events, embracing the local art scene, and savoring the culinary delights that Nashville has to offer. Exploring new and beloved eateries is a particular passion; with favorites like The Catbird Seat for adventurous dining, The Patterson House for the best beef tartare and cocktails, and Fifth & Taylor for memorable date nights with my husband. When it comes to shopping, you'll find me at the Mall at Green Hills, and exploring quaint boutiques along Franklin’s Main Street. The recent renovations and restaurant additions at The Factory in Franklin also make it a go-to destination for both great shopping and dining experiences.

RETIREMENT INCOME PLANNING: MAXIMIZING WEALTH AND LEGACY

Retirement marks the culmination of years of dedication, perseverance and sound financial choices. It's often envisioned as a period of relaxation, exploration and deep connection with family and friends. However, this dream doesn't just manifest. It necessitates forward-thinking and detailed planning, regardless of one's financial status. Amid global economic changes, evolving life expectancies and intricate tax systems, an all-encompassing and strategic retirement plan is more crucial than ever.

A key element of effective retirement planning is diversifying your income sources. While staples like 401(k)s or IRAs are foundational, it's equally important to branch out. Dividend-bearing stocks can provide regular dividends, bonds offer both periodic interest and principal return and real estate, whether directly or indirectly owned, has potential for both rental income and value

growth. Private investments can also yield passive income and impressive returns.

Tax considerations significantly influence retirement strategies. Each financial action, from asset sales to account withdrawals, can carry tax consequences. Knowing these details can greatly influence one's overall retirement income. Tactics such as Roth IRA conversions can help distribute tax liabilities over time, allowing for tax-free withdrawals later on. Using strategies like tax-loss harvesting can balance out capital gains, ensuring proactive steps to reduce tax impact.

SOURCES OF INCOME DURING RETIREMENT

Annuities have long been recognized as a popular retirement income source. An annuity is essentially a financial contract that can offer a steady and predictable income, with options that might even extend to lifetime payouts. Available in varieties like fixed, variable and indexed, they often come with tax advantages. However, retirees should also be aware of certain drawbacks. These might include fees and expenses, issues around liquidity, and potential concerns related to inflation.

Delving into the world of Alternative Investments, retirees can consider assets such as hedge funds, private equity and real assets, among others. These investments may promise higher returns and provide diversification away from traditional stocks and bonds. However, the complexities of these investments mean they often come with challenges like illiquidity, higher fees and the need for a thorough understanding of the investment itself.

Delaware Statutory Trusts (DSTs), while not familiar to everyone, can be a potential retirement income source. Historically rooted, DSTs offer a form of passive real estate investment, which can lead to regular distributions. They also open doors to 1031 exchange possibilities, offering tax deferral benefits. But, just like any other investment, DSTs have their limitations, notably the lack of liquidity and the heavy reliance on trust management.

Introduced by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, Qualified Opportunity Zones (QOZs) were designed to spur economic development. Investing in these zones can lead to deferral, reduction and even the potential elimination of certain capital gains taxes. However, they often require a long-term investment horizon, and retirees must be well-versed with the specifics of the chosen opportunity zone.

CONTINUED > 31 | CITYLIFESTYLE.COM/MUSICCITY APRIL 2024

Rental Income remains a favorite for many looking for consistent returns. Whether through direct property ownership or Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs), real estate can offer passive income, tax benefits and appreciation. Yet, the responsibilities tied to property management, the uncertainties of market fluctuations and other associated costs must not be ignored.

The backbone of many retirement plans, Social Security Income, provides a safety net for millions. Established with the intent of financial assistance, the amount one receives depends on various factors. There are also strategies retirees can employ to maximize these benefits, such as deciding on the optimal time to claim or considering the implications of working while receiving benefits.

ESTATE PLANNING AND PHILANTHROPY

Beyond the immediate realm of retirement, estate planning emerges. This encompasses not just post-retirement arrangements but also asset distribution for future generations or charitable endeavors. Regularly reviewing wills, trusts and beneficiary designations ensures alignment with changing circumstances.

Philanthropy seamlessly integrates with retirement plans. Beyond fulfilling a personal mission to give back, it also carries financial benefits. Using instruments like donor-advised funds or charitable trusts lets individuals make impactful societal contributions while enjoying tax advantages.

You only get one retirement. In the ever-evolving world of finance, staying updated and flexible is essential to ensure the continued relevance and efficiency of one's retirement strategy.
