Kudos Jason Dale - #60 Kamloops Customer service at this location was above and beyond my expectations! This is my go-to stop for any automotive needs. In the parts/service department, Jason was extremely helpful, went beyond what I was asking for to make the customer service the absolute best it could be! Thank you so much! The staff made my day :) Will be back & will recommend this location! -Kass Andrew Szymanis-Heyes & Christopher Still - #110 Lake Cowichan By far the best auto parts store in the surrounding area, though smaller then the Vernon location, their selection is good for their size. But what sets them apart is their customer service Andrew and Chris in particular always step up and go above and beyond to get what we need and help us get our projects sorted, and we have some odd needs and requests. So hats off to this team! -Mathew Dennis Sheila Richardson- #34 Kelowna I went all over the place trying to find what should be a simple part for my car. No one had it. Not even lordco when i called. But sheila was the only one who maybe found something. So off i went to pay her a visit and see if we could compare.... unfortunately it was the wrong part. Then another associate gave a suggestion. So down another rabbit hole she went. Still nothing. But Sheila was optamistic and persistant! We were gonna find this part! She went so far above and beyond to help me. It was too late to have the part shipped over from vernon so i opted to go there and get it..... If you need a tricky part i recomend seeing Sheila! She will go the extra mile to help you find what you are looking for! Thank you again Sheila!!! -Joslyn Marsh Darian Meunier - #112 Calgary I want to send a big thank you to Lordco for employing such fine employees as Darian; as he was super helpful when I dropped in the other day looking for the best synthetic oil for my car. He was not only super knowledgeable about all of the products that Lordco carries, I found out on my way out when I was paying for it, that it was his day off and he had just stopped in to say hello to some of his work mates. Now that is customer service at his finest, as he wasn't even on the payroll at that time! -Mitchell Ravvin #65 Grand Forks Hello and my Name is Matthew Viaene. I just felt like sharing some positive feedback with you about your Grand Forks location. I have time and time again been very pleased with the level of service that I receive from many of the members on staff at the 331 Central Ave, Grand Forks location (store #65).I just felt like sharing this would hopefully bring awareness to the hard work those guys are putting in at that location. Even though they seem to always be a very busy business, they always seem to have time to fit you in to get looked after right away. But not only do they just fit you in and look after your needs, they do so attentively and appear determined to help make sure you get exactly what you are looking for and in a speedy manner. The level of care and attention this staff gives to their customers is amazing. Even with the busy stress of the day they seem to always be willing to help with a smile. These guys are great and I just hope they receive the praise they deserve for all their hard work. Thanks to: Mark, Albert, Anna, Ryan and the rest of the whole team. You have all been a great help to me every time I have needed it and that definitely keeps me coming back rather than just ordering online. Thanks for the fast and friendly help and thank you for just being awesome people! -Matthew Viaene

STARS OF SAFETY JANUARY RECOGNITION

This December, OHS is reflecting on multiple stores and multiple JHSC team members. This December, OHS is reflecting on multiple stores and JHSC team members. Throughout the year, OHS has worked with several locations, managers, safety committees, and reps who have worked hard and put true effort into confronting safety head-on. Plans were made to keep safety alive, not just right after or right before a safety meeting. These plans included quality safety meetings with all members present, addressing hazards, and seeking out prevention strategies. Locations asked for help to better identify ways to improve their safety scorecard and gather support from the staff. JHSC and safety reps took on their roles with pride every month, showing their coworkers that they cared about making it home safely every day. Managers spent days considering incident investigations and follow-up plans to ensure that another worker didn’t get hurt on their watch. To all those who found opportunity in failure, chose solutions over complaining, and decided to make safety a priority in your work life instead of keeping your head in the sand, we salute you. Many thanks, and cheers to an even better 2024. -OHS

Learning from our past: If you’re lucky enough to get a second chance, don’t waste it. I had a cart full of stock from the back of the warehouse that I was trying to wheel towards the front section to put away. There was a small skid in the way with about 10 boxes of paper towels on it. I tested it with my foot to see how easily I could move the skid over to give myself the 6 inches of clearance I needed to get the cart by, and it moved pretty easily. I grabbed the corner of the skid with both hands to shift if over and felt a tear. In a matter of seconds, and from one move, ruptured a tendon in my arm. I have done things like this in the past more times than I can count without any repercussions, so I didn't think twice about doing it this time. Unfortunately, it all eventually catches up with you, and this time I found myself in the hospital having surgery 2 days later. If I had taken a moment to use proper equipment, like a pallet jack, or unloaded the boxes one at a time, I would not have hurt myself and wouldn't have a 6-month recovery ahead of me. 1.

Immediately report the incident to the first aid attendant on duty and your manager. First Aid will offer treatment and work with you to complete required documentation. If additional or elevated medical attention is needed, Lordco will arrange transportation for you to the clinic/hospital. If a FA attendant or manager is not on the premises, contact Nicole Katrynuik, Lordco’s WCB Coordinator to report the injury/illness and complete the documentation nkatrynuik@lordco.com or 604-476-4276

2.

Injuries may require all or part or all of the following forms: • First Aid Record • Modified Duty Offer • "6A” or Worker Report of Injury form in BC "C060" or Occupational Disease form in AB. • Medical Releases • Return to Work Plan (to be discussed with physician) • Modified Duties Inventory forms (to be discussed with physician)

3.

Participate in your injury management if you have on modified work tasks or unable to return to work per a doctor’s diagnosis. • Follow any modified duty/injury management plan given to aid in your recovery, • Keep in weekly contact with your manager with status updates. If you have any questions surrounding Workplace Violence and its prevention, please contact Kristin St. Clair- OHS 604-476-4231

HEALTH & WELLNESS CORNER

JANUARY AWARENESS

Alzheimer’s Awareness Month

January is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month! This month is all about learning about Alzheimer’s, supporting those affected, and learning how you can help!

What is Alzheimer’s? Alzheimer’s disease is a type of dementia that affects memory, thinking, language, and behaviour. It is a progressive disease, meaning it begins with mild memory loss but can eventually cause loss of awareness, memory, and conversation ability. Although it is hard to determine the exact cause of the disease, it is thought to be a combination of agerelated changes in the brain, as well as genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors. How to Reduce Your Risk of Alzheimer’s Although you cannot control your genetics or brain-aging factors, modifying risks with lifestyle changes may help reduce your risk of developing Alzheimer’s. The lifestyle factors that can reduce your risk include: 1. Eating a Balanced Diet. Eating a diet filled with all the food groups can help contribute to a healthier brain. Eating a low sodium diet full of omega-3 fatty acids and B vitamins such as fish, fruits, vegetables, olive oil, and nuts helps to protect your brain from cognitive decline. 2. Exercising Regularly. Exercising regularly can help contribute to your overall health and keep your brain functioning at its best. Exercise can reduce the risk of cognitive impairment by up to 36%. Aim for at least 10 minutes of high-intensity aerobic activity or 30 minutes of moderate aerobic activity per day. 3. Stimulating Your Mind. Exercise your brain like it’s a muscle. Learning a new skill, instrument, or language is a great way to make new connections and keep your brain active. The more complex the activity, the better it is for your brain. Plus, if you have any brain boosting tips, be sure to share them on our new wellness platform on Connect at https://www.lordcoconnect.com/! 4. Managing Stress. Chronic or prolonged stress releases cortisol into your body, which can cause premature damage to your brain. Try to manage your stress levels through movement, journaling, or a relaxing activity. What You Can Do to Promote Awareness You can support those with Alzheimer’s by connecting with your local Alzheimer’s Society to volunteer or spread awareness by getting involved in your community. Listen to those living with Alzheimer’s and see where they could use extra support. Learning more about Alzheimer’s will help you, those around you, and those living with the disease. Where to Find More Information If you’d like to learn more about Alzheimer’s including information about prevention, treatment, support, and links to help those in your community, check out Canada’s Alzheimer’s Society website at https://alzheimer.ca/en/take-action/change-minds/ alzheimers-awareness-month.
