Letter from the Chair At Greenpeace, we are used to tackling big problems and facing powerful opponents, but creating the systemic level changes needed to overcome the global climate and biodiversity crisis is a tall order indeed.

As the next Executive Director of Greenpeace Nordic, you will be entrusted to take us to the next level where we can hope to make the positive impact that is needed to help solve the climate and biodiversity crisis.

With no formal power, we need to be able to change mindsets, push back on destructive practices, disrupt unhealthy power dynamics, and inspire positive change.

We won’t be expecting you to go it alone. On the contrary, we see your primary role as being an inclusive leader who is a good listener, understands how to solve complex problems and how to unlock the creative potential in others.

Power-holders in the Nordic countries like to portray their countries as being green and progressive. It is a positive message that resonates widely, but the predominant way of living, producing, and consuming in the Nordics is unsustainable. From the threat of deep-sea mining and continued fossil fuel exploration, industrial-scale animal farming, destructive old growth forest logging and mindless consumerism, we still have a long way to go. Greenpeace has been running successful campaigns in the Nordic region for decades but given the scale of the ecological challenges facing us now, Greenpeace Nordic wants to step up our game.

Behind you will be a Board of Directors who will have your back and be focused on strategic governance rather than operational issues, while also expecting that you do your utmost to deliver on our ambitious change agenda. Welcome on board!

Dan Hindsgaul Chair of the Board of Directors - Greenpeace Nordic

Greenpeace Nordic is a well-run office with great staff, dedicated volunteers, and a loyal supporter base. Being present in four different Nordic countries enables us to collaborate and make smart decisions on where and how to invest, campaign and scale up activities across borders.

About Greenpeace Greenpeace is an independent global campaigning network, which uses peaceful, creative confrontation and peaceful/nonviolent direct action to expose global environmental problems and develop solutions for a green and peaceful future. Our vision is for a greener, fairer, safer planet; one that can sustain life for generations to come. It is not only our committed volunteers and activists who help us achieve this vision, but also our team of dedicated staff. Our people work together in areas like Campaigns, Communications, Engagement, Fundraising, Legal, IT/Data, Finance, People & Culture and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, to jointly defend the natural world from destruction. If you are also passionate about creating solutions and positive change, then we want to hear from you. Greenpeace exists because this fragile earth deserves a voice. It needs solutions. It needs change. It needs action. It needs you.

Our Mission Our goal is to ensure the ability of the earth to nurture life in all its diversity. That means we want to: • Protect biodiversity in all its forms. • Prevent pollution and abuse of the earth’s ocean, land, air and freshwater. • End all nuclear threats. • Promote peace, global disarmament and non-violence.

Our Structure Greenpeace is an independent global campaigning network. It comprises 26 independent national/regional offices in more than 55 countries across Europe, the Americas, Africa, Asia and the Pacific, as well as a co-ordinating body, Greenpeace International. Please see a map here for an overview of our Global presence. Nordic Executive Director

Greenpeace Nordic was established in 1999 through an association of the national Greenpeace offices in Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Norway. The offices merged to increase impact and efficiency through better Nordic cooperation. Currently we have approximately 180 employees and 480 volunteers who work with us in the region, and offices in Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen and Helsinki.

Our Values Greenpeace’s work is based on a number of principles. They are reflected in all our campaigns, and they guide whatever we do, wherever we do it. • Personal responsibility and nonviolence. We use non violent direct action or civil disobedience and take action based on conscience. This means we are accountable for our actions and take personal responsibility. We are committed to peacefulness; everyone on a Greenpeace action is trained in nonviolence. • Independence. We do not accept money from governments, corporations or political parties. Individual contributions, together with grants from foundations, are the only source of our funding. • Greenpeace has no permanent friends or foes. If your government or company is willing to change, we will work with you to achieve your aims. Reverse course, and we will be back. What matters isn’t words, but actions. • Promoting solutions. It’s not enough for us to point the finger; we develop, research and promote concrete steps towards a green and peaceful future for all of us. Read more about working for Greenpeace Nordic here.
