I want to take this opportunity to welcome all of you to the 2023-2024 Oshawa Generals and the return of OHL hockey after a long summer. This season will be one of the most competitive campaigns we have had in several years. The Eastern Conference will be a dog fight, night in and night out. Facing the Ottawa 67’s in the first-round last season, showed us how much the game changes when the playoffs arrive. You must bring it every night. Nothing is given and everything will be earned. Make no mistake, there are no playoffs if you don’t take care of the regular season. With Derek Laxdal and his staff returning for there second season, they will be more comfortable in this environment and understand with your tremendous support comes expectations. The players playing under them for the second year should have no surprises on the demands and expectations on them. Our scouts have done another tremendous job in identifying talent for us and none more impressive then our 2023 first rounder, Owen Griffin who has begun to earn his way into the hearts of Gens fans, team mates and coaches for years to come. Our past is certainly something that all our supporters and everyone in our organization is very proud of. This season our entire focus right now is on the present. We want to have the best team possible to challenge for silverware again. Anything but your best won’t be good enough to make you a member of this Oshawa General’s was the message from training camp to now. This message remains the same. GO GENS GO !!!!!!

hockey ETIQUETTE While we score goals on the ice, our goal off the ice is to make sure all of #GensNation has the best game experience possible! We’ve made a list of some important reminders for all fans to keep in mind so that everyone’s night out is a special one.
1. WAIT FOR THE WHISTLE TO ENTER AND EXIT SEATING AREA
A lot can happen in a split second of hockey action – and we don’t want anyone to miss anything. Fans who move from their seat during play can block the view of an entire section of fans. Please wait until a whistle blows to make any move to and from your seats. QUICK TIP - There will always be extended stoppages following the first whistle after the 14:00 & 6:00 minute marks of a period (unless there is an icing, goal, or the start of a power play – just listen for the buzzer!)
2. BE MINDFUL OF THOSE AROUND YOU
Trust us, we know the games will have you at the edge of your seat, but if you lean too far forward, you’ll block the view of those around you. There isn’t a bad seat in the building, so sit back and enjoy the game!
3. KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PUCK
Things move quickly at our games, including flying sticks and pucks. Keep your eye on the puck at all times to avoid any potential injuries!
4. NON-SMOKING FACILITY
The Tribute Communities Centre is a non-smoking, no re-entry facility. Smoking of any kind, including e-cigarettes, on TCC property, is prohibited.
5. HOCKEY IS FOR EVERYONE
We don’t expect everyone to be best friends with the Petes’ fans – some things just don’t mix. But, we do think it’s pretty cool they’re coming to our building to enjoy the same great game we love. Please be aware of those sitting around you, including children and let the play on the ice do the talking. Abusive and inappropriate language will NOT be tolerated.
6. HAVE FUN

BRANTFORD BULLDOGS - EASTERN DIVISION The Bulldogs have held on tight to their Eastern Division lead after a mid-week matchup with the Oshawa Generals. The first period went in Brantford’s favour with two goals by Jake O’Brien and Noah Nelson. The second 20 gave Oshawa the support to tie the game at two with goals from Punnett and Kumpulainen. Then, the third period gave Brantford that one goal they needed to defend their place when Zakary Lavoie sealed the deal. The 3-2 win gave Brantford 48 points while Oshawa remains second at 44. Brantford will have back-to-back weekend appointments with Windsor and Mississauga to hopefully gain a few more points and climb further in the standings. PHOTO BY: BRANTFORD BULLDOGS
SUDBURY WOLVES CENTRAL DIVISION The Sudbury Wolves return to the Den for a doubleheader this Friday and Sunday. The weekend starts off with the Erie Otters on Friday and Barrie Colts on Undie Sunday in Partnership with Sudbury Outreach Support where they hope to pack their rink with donations for those in need. Sudbury needs to collect those extra four points to distance them in the standings, especially from North Bay, who is trailing just one point behind. The Wolves currently hold the top spot with 47 points, Battalion following with 46, and Steelheads right behind with 44.

LONDON KNIGHTS - MIDWEST DIVISION The Knights have been a team to both watch and look out for in the Midwestern Division. Currently riding a 12-game winning streak, they sit second, with 59 points. Their recent 10-0 victory over Owen Sound has lit their fire as this weekend they will faceoff with the Division first place holders, the Kitchener Rangers who own 62 points. Meeting in Kitchener on Friday and then hosting Kitchener on Saturday, this weekend push could alter the standings and knock the Rangers down a peg. PHOTO BY: LONDON KNIGHTS
WINDSOR SPITFIRES WEST DIVISION Spitfires take on their Divisional rivals the SOO on January 18 after a huge Saturday night win over Sudbury with a high-scoring game of 11-7. Their recent home game on the 10th also allowed for a double-digit final, although not in their favour, where they lost 11-3 against Saginaw. game day PREVIEW The Oshawa Generals continue their homestand as they take on the Windsor Spitfiress. The Gens are playing some of their best hockey of the reason, bouncing back from having the team’s five-game win streak snapped. Oshawa has won their last two home games by a combined score of 15-3 beating the Kingston Frontenacs 8-2 and the Peterborough Petes 7-1. The Spitfires enter this game with the second-lowest number of points in the Ontario Hockey League. Windsor are 3-4-2-1 in their last ten games and have allowed the most goals against in the league.
Last Meeting: This is the second of two matchups these teams will play this season, the first was a road game for the Gens that they won 6-3. It was the Spitfires scoring first in that one, but Oshawa would tie it later in the first when Connor Lockhart picked up a blocked shot and fired it into the net. After Windsor took the lead again in the second period, Calum Ritchie would make a nice move to get around the Spitfires defenceman before sliding it to Lockhart for an easy goal. The Gens would get their first lead of the game as it was Luca D’Amato on the powerplay snapping one under the bar making it 3-2 Gens. Windsor would tie it up a little later but after a pair of Oshawa goals from Matthew Buckley and Ritchie it was Connor Lockhart completing the hat trick shooting the puck from his own end into the empty net.

Leading the Windsor Spitfires in all three scoring categories with 24 goals and 33 assists for 57 points this season. The winger had his 10-game point streak snapped against the Brantford Bulldogs over that stretch he picked up 18 points.
last game RECAP FRIDAY, JANUARY 19
The Oshawa Generals bounce back to beat their Rivals the Peterborough Petes 7-1 Friday night. It was the Beckett Sennecke and Calum Ritchie show as the pair combined for 10 points as they both had two goals and three assists. Jacob Oster was in net and the Gens goalie made 14 saves on 15 shots. It took a couple of minutes, but after some sustained zone time, Stuart Rolofs rounded the top of the circle and Oshawa’s first shot of the night beat Easton Rye for a 1-0 Generals lead. The Gens would add another a little later in the frame when Ritchie found Sennecke on the backdoor who hit the post, the puck fell to Ritchie who once again got it to Sennecke and on the second time asking he made it 2-0 Oshawa. Sennecke would return the favour later in the first, on a powerplay, he would drop the puck to Ritchie and the Colorado Avalanche prospect wristed one into the top corner giving the Gens a 3-0 lead. To start the second period, Oshawa would add to their total, on a four-on-four it was Matthew Buckley beating the Petes’ defenceman to the puck before swatting it five-hole making it 4-0 Generals. Peterborough would find an answer on a powerplay as the puck fell to Braydon McCallum who was just able to lift it over an outstretched Oster cutting the score to 4-1 Oshawa. The Generals played tic-tac-toe for their fifth goal of the game when Zackary Sandhu found Rolofs who made a nice pass to Sennecke and the winger went low far pad making it easy for Ritchie to tap home his second of the night making it 5-1 Gens. Oshawa kept the pressure coming as this time it was Rolofs making a nice stretch pass to spring Ritchie who left it for Sennecke and the winger snapped it past Rye for his second of the game and a 6-1 lead. Less than a minute, later Luca D’Amato got into the action as he took a pass from Sennecke before beating the Petes’ netminder making it a 7-1 Generals lead.

IN MEMORIAM On July 30th, the entire Oshawa Generals organization and family was devastated with the news of the passing of long-time scout Michael ‘Craiger’ Craig. Michael unfortunately lost his battle with a rare form of colorectal cancer. Craiger, as he was known around the rink, was a scout with the Generals’ organization for Eastern Ontario for more than 15 years. He scouted players such as Will Petschenig, Daniel Altshuller, Serron Noel, William Ennis, and current General Matthew Buckley – just to name a few. Michael was also a part of the 2014-2015 Memorial Cup Championship run. Throughout his career on and off the ice, Michael selflessly helped and assisted so many students, Special Olympic athletes, OHL and minor hockey players – touching and enriching countless lives.

In partnership with the Ontario Hockey League and Canadian Hockey League, the Oshawa Generals are proud to announce Generals forward Beckett Sennecke, and Generals defencemen Ben Danford and Luca Marrelli have been named to the 2024 Kubota CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game on January 24th, in Moncton., N.B. In the preliminary NHL Central Scouting rankings back in October, Sennecke received an ‘A’ rating (projecting to be a first-round selection), while Danford and Marrelli received a ‘B’ rating (projecting a 2nd/3rd-round selection).
Sennecke, the Toronto, Ont., native was one of the Generals’ first-round picks in the 2022 OHL Priority Selection, taken eighth overall. In his rookie season a year ago, Sennecke finished second in league rookie scoring, behind only exceptional status player Michael Misa of the Saginaw Spirit.
Danford, from Madoc, Ont., was the Generals’ second first-round pick in the 2022 draft, after receiving a compensatory pick for a previous non-committed pick. Danford was selected 11th overall at the OHL Priority selection. In his rookie campaign, Danford appeared in 63 games for the Generals, scoring four times and adding 17 assists from the blue line.
Rounding out the trio of teammates representing the Generals is defenceman Luca Marrelli. The Toronto, Ont., native was taken in the 5th round, 81st overall at the 2021 OHL Priority Selection. As a late birthday, Marrelli has now played two full seasons with the Generals. In 2021-2022, his rookie year, Marrelli appeared in 62 games and tallied 12 assists. Last season, he played in 58 games, but scored five goals and added 23 assists for 28 points.

Sergeant Amanda Crawford enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces at the age of 17, in June 2001, with 23 Service Battalion, a Reserve Base, in Hamilton, Ontario. In 2006, she decided to pursue the Military as a full time career, and joined the Regular Force, where she was first posted to Toronto. She has had many postings over the years, including Kingston, Ottawa and Petawawa. While in Petawawa, she deployed to Sierra Leone in 2014, as part of Operation Sirona. Operation Sirona was the military component of the Canadian Government’s contribution to fighting the Ebola out break in West Africa. Canadian Armed Forces personnel augmented the efforts undertaken by the United Kingdom to combat the spread of the Ebola virus in Sierra Leone. The mission ended in June 2015. Sgt Crawford remained in Sierra Leone for two rotations during 2014-2015. She has also taken part in many training exercises within Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom. At present, Sergeant Crawford is the Chief Human Resources Administrator at the Ontario Regiment here in Oshawa, where she and her family plan to remain as her final posting. Sergeant Crawford is engaged to be married to Colleen Ranger. They are the proud parents of Alyssa, Adam, Beau and Nate.

TAKES ON WORLD JUNIORS
The Oshawa Generals are proud to announce that a member of our stellar forward core, Rasmus Kumpulainen, has been selected on Team Finland’s final roster for the World Junior Hockey Championship (WJHC) in Sweden. The Finnish Ice Hockey Association announced the final team roster after the World Cup camp period. Kumpulainen will be wearing #18. The Lahti, Fin., native has been an offensive force for the Generals during the first half of the season. Meeting 27 games with 27 overall points, he has acquired 14 goals and 13 assists. Before joining the Generals via the 13th overall selection at the 2023 CHL Import Draft, Kumpulainen had his NHL dreams come true. On June 29th, Kumpulainen heard his named called at the 2023 NHL Entry Draft in Nashville, Tenn. The Minnesota Wild selected the 6.02 centre with the 53rd pick in the 2nd round.
Internationally, Kumpulainen has represented Finland on three other occasions. In 2021-2022 he made 13 appearances for his country at the U17 level. Finally, Kumpulainen has made six appearances with the Finnish U20 team, adding four assists to his international resume. All in all, Kumpulainen has made 40 appearances dawning his Finnish flag, scoring 10 goals and 15 assists. “Ras being selected to play for Finland is an absolute credit to him as a player and the work the coaches have put into his season so far,” said team General Manager Roger Hunt. “I think him playing in North America will certainly enhance his opportunities with the Minnesota Wild and we wish him all the best with this opportunity but can’t wait to see him in the second half of the season for the Gens.” The Oshawa Generals organization would like to congratulate our very own and wish him the best as he competes for gold.
