TO VISIT BEFORE

s l a v i t Fes YOU DIE

BY TATIANA MELENDEZ

There is something in the air today. Maybe you've noticed? Now that the pandemic is something we are learning to live with, it is safe to gather again; inperson celebrations are back in full force! After a two-year high-atus, we can finally celebrate 4/20 in our usual, epic fashion. If you work in the cannabis industry or love a good excuse to toke, you know one weed holiday a year is far too little for an herb that is so important to so many. In addition, 1 in 3 Americans live in a state where cannabis is legal now, and cannabis and CBD are being used to aid with symptoms of epilepsy, cancer, autoimmune disorders, and many other conditions around the country. You can even get a college degree in cannabis. Who would have thought? The cannabis enthusiast's year starts with the most widely recognized stoner holiday. THE stoner holiday, if you will. The day that is so big, Willie Nelson called President Biden to declare it a national holiday this year. But besides being the most well-known cannabis holiday, the origins of 4/20 are more mysterious. One widely accepted belief is that 420 was the penal code for cannabis in California at one point, but there's no evidence to support that idea. Another theory is that a tradition of smoking weed at 4:20 pm every afternoon was adopted by a group of California high school students. San Rafael High School friends called themselves the Waldos, as they often hung out by a wall outside of their school. They coined the term in 1971 to refer to their after-school trips and because extracurricular activities had usually ended by then. This group Steve Capper, Dave Reddix, Jeffrey Noel, Larry Schwartz, and Mark Gravich, became known as the "Waldos" because they met at a wall. They would say "420" to each other as code for marijuana. As Reddix told TIME in 2017,

"We got tired of the Friday night football scene with all of the jocks. We were the guys sitting under the stands smoking a doobie, wondering what we were doing there." Later, Reddix's brother helped him get work with Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh as a roadie, so the band is said to have helped popularize the term "420." On December 28, 1990, a group of Deadheads in Oakland handed out flyers that invited people to smoke "420" on April 20 at 4:20 pm. One ended up with Steve Bloom, a former reporter for High Times magazine, an authority on cannabis culture. The magazine printed the flyer in 1991 and continued to reference the number. Soon, it became known worldwide as the code for marijuana. Then, in 1998, the outlet acknowledged that the "Waldos" were the "inventors" of 420. thechronicmagazine.com

VISITING A 4/20 FESTIVAL IS ON OUR MINDS; BELOW ARE SOME OF THE TOP ONES IN THE UNITED STATES:

The day has taken on a life of its own in the cannabis industry. According to Headset, a Seattle-based cannabis data firm, April 20 has consistently been the most important day for cannabis sales in the U.S. since 2016, when states first began legalizing recreational marijuana. This true. Dispo hoping on 4/20 is so much fun.

New York City - Unity Day The stage is set for a spectacular celebration in New York this year, mainly because it is the first 4/20 since the state legalized recreational cannabis. More than a dozen events happened throughout the week, but one of the best will be the Unity Day party produced by Cannademix. With Wu-Tang Clan's Inspectah Deck and Cappadonna performances, Sensi All-Stars, Big Nate All-Star, PBS Skinz, Puffington, and Jdotlittles.

The largest celebration in the Bay Area, where 420 originated, will be back at Hippie Hill this year and better than ever. For the first time, people will be able to buy legal cannabis from licensed vendors. Set in the Robin Williams Meadow in glorious Golden Gate Park, this party starts early at 10 am. It features Berner from Cookies Fam as a headliner, with appearances by comedians Jeff Ross and Mike Tyson.

Washington D.C. - National Cannabis Festival

Los Angeles - Glass House Fest The Glass House Fest, put on by Glass House Brands, is back for its second year in downtown LA's trendy arts district. This year's event will be in the immersive dome known as Wisdom. The party was headlined by Reggie Watts, bandleader of CBS's The Late Late Show with James Corden. Blackillack, Guapdad 4000, and DCKWRTH will also perform, and a comedy stage will host performances by Trevor Wallace and Friends. It features music and comedy. 9

In the nation's capital, whose Constitution was written on hemp, revelers will gather to celebrate 4/20 the following weekend for a two-day Smokeout. Wiz Khalifa headlines Saturday, and Slick Rick takes center stage on Sunday. Lettuce, Ghostface Killah, Backyard Band, Dupont Brass, and others are also set to perform. In addition, the event features a Munchies Zone, Exhibitor Fair, Education Pavilion, and Advocacy Village for those who want to keep up with the status of cannabis on the legal landscape.

Denver - Mile High 420 Festival With many years of legal 4/20 parties under its belt, Denver knows how to do the stoner holidaze right. The downtown party features Big Boi, Lil Jon, and Talib Kweli this year. A crowd of 50,000 is expected to attend, making this likely to be the most prominent 4/20 party in the country. They all sound super fun, and I need to add one of them to my life. While cannabis holidays are a great time to offer discounts and promote your brand, keep in mind that these are not the only days you can do that; here are a few other cannabis holidays during the year: June 18 is known as Jack Herer's Birthday. Jack Herer was one of the most passionate and outspoken cannabis activists in the '70s, '80s, and early 90's. So in 2016, Leafly suggested recognizing Jack Herer's birthday as a day to commemorate all cannabis activists, past and present, who have dedicated their lives to ending the prohibition of marijuana. If you want to celebrate Jack's birthday right, try the Sativa-dominant hybrid strain named in his honor.

July 10 Oil and Concentrate Day (National Dab Day). Don't worry, dabbers – there is a weed holiday for you. While most cannabis holidays are celebrated in smoking circles, July 10 is reserved for cannabis oil and concentrate enthusiasts. It came about if you flip the number "710" over. It looks like the world's "oil," obviously. Legend has it that the rapper TaskRock first brought it up in a chat room where people discussed their distaste for the traditional 4:20 smoke sesh time, and the idea stuck. So now, you can enjoy discounted cannabis concentrates every July 10.

August 8

National CBD Day. Not to be overlooked, August 8 celebrates the nation's favorite non-intoxicating, anti-inflammatory cannabis compound: CBD. National CBD Day was officially recognized as a holiday in 2017 by National Day Calendar, a firm that promotes holidays on social media to help companies market themselves. The idea was pitched by a North Carolina CBD manufacturer, who felt it was time we took a day to raise awareness of the healing properties of CBD and all it has done for many people facing mental and physical health challenges. Now, manufacturers are offering discounts and using the hashtag #NationalCBDDay to promote their brands every August, and the concept seems to be gaining traction. Lastly, capitalize on federal holidays and weekends. Your customers will be off work and looking for something to do. Labor Day weekend, for instance, brings in some of the most multi-day cannabis sales each year for the cannabis business, right behind the week of 4/20, and the holiday season is highly lucrative for the cannabis industry as well.

Legal marijuana sales roll out in New Jersey

Move over, Giuliani: how loopholes sparked a golden age of cannabis in New York

On Thursday, 21 April, recreational use of cannabis was legalized throughout New Jersey, allowing anyone 21 or older to legally purchase marijuana. At Apothecarium, tucked between a smoothie bar and a cafe in Maplewood, hundreds arrived to buy weed legally for the very first time in New Jersey, just a hop and a skip – or a bridge or tunnel – away from New York City. Arriving in groups or solo, young and old came to celebrate what many described as a long-awaited step in making marijuana more accessible.

Source: https://www.nj.com/

Source:https://www.bbc.com/

The arrests came some two months after officials were called to the wedding to assist guests who said they felt as though they had been drugged. Danya Svoboda and caterer Joycelyn Bryan face charges of tampering, negligence and delivery of marijuana. Officials made the arrests after testing food and drinks from the party. The wedding occurred on 19 February in the city of Longwood, in central Florida. Responding deputies wrote in their incident report that several of the 50 guests present reported "feeling weird," after eating meatballs, Caesar salad, tortellini, and "bread with an olive oil and herb dip". Guests were complaining of stomach pains and vomiting. Several were transported to hospital for treatment.

NEW JERSEY

Voters first approved of legalizing cannabis in the state in 2020 and on 21 April, it became one of the first on the US east coast to start recreational sales.

Police in Florida have arrested a bride and her caterer after finding they allegedly added cannabis to food that was later served to wedding guests.

NEWS

“Today is absolutely historic,” said 41year-old Jason Sommers, an Apothecarium employee who worked as security for the dispensary’s first day serving recreational customers. “Those who indulge in cannabis have been waiting for this day for a very long time and now that it’s here. It’s beautiful,” Sommers added, wearing a plain black T-shirt and excitedly greeting customers as they first arrived. Maplewood police stood in front of the dispensary, helping to direct traffic and point out parking for eager buyers. Under sunny skies, customers were greeted by uniformed dispensary employees giving out tote bags, lighters, free T-shirts and other goodies.

With possession legalized, weed trucks and pop-ups are everywhere. But that could all change when the state swoops in. For the past few months, anyone visiting Katz’s Deli in the Lower East Side of Manhattan – as famous for its role in When Harry Met Sally as it is for pastrami – has queued near a green-painted food truck, strategically parked on Houston Street to capture Katz’s foot traffic, adorned with multi-colored LED signage advertising the city’s latest hot delicacy: cannabis. Passersby can stroll up to the truck’s sales window and peek at a menu written in marker on a white dry-erase board and ask to see and smell a sample before forking over $60 cash for 3.5 grams, the cannabis industry’s standard serving size.Business is so good that in addition to the truck here and the others outside a Trader Joe’s in Brooklyn and a major subway transfer in the Upper West Side, the Green Truck recently opened an eighth location, a block away from Grand Central. Though none of this is technically legal – even if the $60 is legally a “donation”, as the boredlooking man running the truck explains – nobody cares enough to intervene.

On a recent visit to Katz’s, an NYPD police car was parked behind the Green Truck, where “donations” or sales, whichever, continued as if police did not exist.

Marijuana possession and consumption is legal in New York state for adults 21 and over and has been for almost a year. But the way New York has gone about legalization has been very different from states like California. There are strong socialjustice provisions and guarantees to reserve cannabis retail opportunities for minorities and others most harmed by the country’s decades-long drug war. New York’s legalization law, the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act, or MRTA, is one of the most progressive legalization laws in the country. New York is also considered the next big prize for the country’s fledgling cannabis industry, which recorded $40bn in legal sales in 2021, according to BofA Securities research. and Most people are already thinking, how can cannabis be helpful or useful for fitness? Well, with more legalization comes more acceptance, with more acceptance comes the era of experimenting with cannabis and exercise! More people are trying cannabis, and even more, are using it in some way to help with their exercise and fitness goals.

Fitness by SARAH PRATER MS, RD/LD

This initially sounds counterintuitive because of the very outdated belief that stoners are lazy and more so that being “stoned” hinders activities. Turns out, they are HIGHly active people, there is even a study to prove it! A meta-analysis published in Preventative Medicine just last year in 2021, is one of the first studies to analyze the relationship between cannabis use and exercise. What they found is that cannabis users tend to work out more than people who don’t. Experimenting with cannabis and fitness has been growing so fast, that a new label has already emerged, with this group of people called “stoner-cisers.” Researchers at the University of Colorado Boulder were recruiting last December for people who like to run while stoned for a study. The name of their study is SPACE, which stands for Study on Physical Activity and Cannabis Effects. This will be so exciting to see what their research reveals! Cannabis is already known for having mental and health benefits, so it makes sense that it would also help during physical activity. Many people have been reporting that cannabis use before exercise helps them concentrate better, stay more focused, and relieves anxious feelings. Many also report that the relaxed feeling that comes with using cannabis help with breathing, being more in tune with their body, and additionally helping them to better control movements. The physical benefits are what most stoner-cisers are raving about. The main benefit is people are reporting feeling less pain. We all know cannabis is a wonderful alleviator of some aches and pain, but people using it for exercise, they feel they can do more exercise and sometimes for longer periods of time. This is especially true for some exercises that involve impact, like when runners are coming down on their feet with each step, less pain is felt throughout the feet and legs. People are reporting this to also be true with stretching and weights, as less pain is being felt they feel they can run longer, stretch better, and lift better. Topicals that contain CBD, THC or a combination of both are, yet another way cannabis can be an aide to exercise. As mentioned, cannabis helps alleviate some aches and pain when inhaled or eaten, but the same is true when applied topically to the skin. Topicals can help alleviate muscle soreness and tenderness.

Some exercises can cause inflammation, especially in the joint areas. The topicals can penetrate the skin, whereas the cannabinoids can utilize their anti-inflammatory properties. This all can help with faster recovery and many athletes have begun using cannabis topicals within the last few years. If you need more proof that cannabis may help or enhance your workouts, here it is! The U.S. anti-Doping Agency formally states on their website, “based on current animal and human studies as well as on interviews with athletes and information from the field, cannabis can be performance-enhancing for some athletes and sports disciplines.” However, since one of America’s top sprinters, Sha’Carri Richardson failed for marijuana just before competing in the Olympics, WADA announced they would review cannabis’ status on the list of banned substances. In 2018, WADA removed CBD from their banned list. Word of caution on how much cannabis is used and what method of consumption is best for exercise. Most people do not get super stoned before going to the gym unless they already have a tolerance built up. If you are new to experimenting, go low and slow.

Start with a few puffs, then see how your workout goes, increase, or decrease as you feel needed. Generally, edibles are not recommended because sometimes they take too long to kick in and their effects can be so unpredictable! And to the iron lung smokers with insane tolerances, you keep doing you. So, is cannabis a performance enhancer for exercise and sports? Most likely not, but as more people are experimenting with it in different forms and diverse types of exercise there is a conclusive agreement that cannabis helps with some minor pain relief, quietens the mind for better focus and concentration, and lastly there does seem to be evidence that it can help with faster recovery. thechronicmagazine.com

THE SCIENCE OF EDIBLES EDIBLES INTERACT WITH THE HUMAN BODY DIFFERENTLY THAN INHALING

EDIBLES

Today Cannabis comes in a multitude of products. Walk into a dispensary, look up and read the menu. If you have never visited a dispensary, it can be overwhelming at best. Cannabis comes in many forms, flowers, topicals, oils, personal products, edibles, beverages, pizza and so much more. How do you decide on what you want to purchase and why? A little knowledge goes a long way. If you purchase edibles in the dispensary and your friend purchases flower, your experiences could be quite different. The body system reacts differently when cannabis is being ingested versus inhaled. The smoke from cannabis flows through the lungs and into the bloodstream until it reaches the brain's cell receptors. The effects are felt within several minutes or a short while later. It is important to note that not all cannabis strains act the same way. Edibles, on the other hand, are ingested through the stomach, which takes time to break down and then passes into the bloodstream and flows to the brain's cell receptors. This is generally when effects can be felt. In edibles, it can take up to an hour to feel the effects and it depends on the individual. It also depends on the type of cannabis edible you buy. All edibles are not equal, it is all about the process. Have you ever picked up a bag of gummies and read the small print? If you are focused on CBD, fullspectrum and broad-spectrum are the better choices. When the ICE HASH process is used for making edibles, the process preserves the terpenes and cannabinoids and the benefits are passed on to the user. Ice Hash is generally cultivar specific. Wedding Cake is a popular cultivar today if you used the ICE Hash method for the process you maintain all the great benefits of the plant. If buying a product that says, Isolate or distillate, it means the process extrapolated out the CBD isolate and or the THC distillate, and no other plant derivatives are used. In addition, many edibles are not cultivar specific or pass on the terpene cannabinoid benefits to the medicinal user. It’s about the processing of the cannabis plant and it really makes a difference if looking for medicinal benefits of cannabis. Cannabis is full of cannabinoids and terpenes that can play a beneficial role in the human body system. thechronicmagazine.com

MAY 2022

14

A good portion of the products on the market do not have terpene properties or the benefits of the cannabinoids available to the consumer. The terpenes and cannabinoids have been stripped out or degraded in the process of achieving an isolate and or a distillate. Large manufacturers of edibles generally use solvents, butane, alcohol, or CO2. Once isolated the Isolate or Distillate is in crystal form. Manufactures break down the crystals to a powder that is easily ingested into the body system through the edible. The reason the terpenes and cannabinoids degrade is the heat process used. The high heat breaks down the cannabinoids and terpenes. The process is not natural, but it does have a place in the market. The extraction process can be different depending on the manufacturer. The CBD crystal contains less than 3% THC. A distillate (THC).

One important factor to remember is to ingest edibles slowly. Start with a lower dose than written on the package. Especially if edibles have not been used before. Due to the slow ramp-up of the edibles, it is not uncommon to hear that the user had ingested more than the package states. This is where problems come in and education is crucial in the use of edibles and other forms of cannabis. Enjoy your brownies, gummies, seltzer waters, and more. Just be aware of what you are putting into your body. 15

Twenty- seven percent of the people surveyed agreed that it would be ideal if more cannabis was used in place of alcohol, while only 20 percent said this was a bad idea. The majority of respondents (38%) said that they thought it would be neither good nor bad, while 15% weren't sure. The debate about which alcohol versus Marijuana has been heating up. Some say that drinking can lead to long-term issues, while others point out how dangerous it can be while also eluding to alcohol poising.

In contrast, there aren't any recorded instances where someone overdosed after consuming marijuana alone—and this includes federal government admission on their website stating no one has ever died due to an overdose caused solely by consumption. The compounds found inside cannabis plants do show promise as treatments against various different health ailments. The (YouGov America) poll found that 34% of Democrats think switching over to marijuana would be good, compared with 18 percent for Republicans and 27 percent among Independents. There seems to be a clear difference in opinion between generations when it comes to whether cannabis substitutions would benefit them. 17

Contract statutes can be found in Oklahoma Statute Title 15. The definition of “contract” is provided by Section 1 and states: “A contract is an agreement to do or not to do a certain thing.” You probably knew that much already! Section 2 provides: “It is essential to the existence of a contract that there should be: 1. Parties capable of contracting. 2. Their consent. 3. A lawful object; and, 4. Sufficient cause or consideration.” In general, this means that someone over the age of eighteen years old agrees to do something that is legal and pays (or is paid) or provides (or is provided) some sort of consideration for it. By far my favorite statement about consideration is that “a mere peppercorn shall suffice.” Anyway, you can contract for whatever you want, but if you do not meet the above requirements, chances are, a court will not enforce it. There are a few contracts I would like to highlight here for your business. First, when you form your business entity you need an operating agreement or bylaws, entity formation can have a huge impact on your future liability. An operating agreement or bylaws is a great way to lay out the rules of your business. This will help limit liability and will allow you and the individuals you go into business with to have a clear understanding of what they are getting themselves into. Second, I will always encourage a contract to be drafted and used in any and all business transactions and dealings. This industry is ever-changing and a written contract between the parties will help define what is expected of each party in the event of a breach, having a written contract gives the court something to interpret. This is a huge benefit. Third, non-compete agreements and non-disclosure agreements. Both of these are kind of difficult to deal with for the other party because they essentially limit what they can do with the information gained from working with or for you. They can be very helpful and beneficial for you and can provide a way to protect your secret sauce. Contracts are important for all parties involved. They are the best and most straightforward way to limit liability and protect yourself. In this rapidly changing space, contracts are a must.

OriginalSTRAINS drace The 5 Lan

by Alesha Wilson, M. Ed.

Certified Cannabis Therapy Consultant

When someone or something has been described as “original,” there seems to be a higher level of respect or regard for that person or thing. So, it is not unusual to make the connection between original cannabis strains to original folk heroes such as Willie Nelson and Snoop Dogg. I’m not going to pretend that I can offer a one-hundred percent accurate account of the original cannabis strains, as history shows… details can get misinterpreted along the way, but I will offer my best urban hippie perspective. Anyone can Google “original cannabis strains” and come up with multiple lists, however, I’ll focus on five that are consistently referenced as landrace strains: Acapulco Gold, Afghani, Durban Poison, Lambs Bread, and Thai. For the purposes of this article, “original” refers to the naming of cannabis strains in the United States since around the 1960s – not “original” from the Chinese Emperors’ recordings of cannabis benefits as early as 2700 BC.

19

MAY 2022

thechronicmagazine.com

The word “cultivar” is more commonly used in botany, and “strain” is more commonly used in biology, therefore, I’ll shoot for a 60/40 usage of the word while we are still in the early conversion stages. When I started researching for this article, I was surprised by how accurate the plant is represented by Hollywood. But after a moment of clarity via a couple of hits of Fire OG, I realized, why wouldn’t they have the information? Humboldt County is not too far away and despite its local flavor, stories emerge and so does the weed. My early recollections of cannabis were stories told through Cheech and Chong movies, which to me maintained themes of being in the moment, going with the flow, and the ability to attract kindred spirits with a single puff of smoke. When I finally tried the Up in Smoke movie referenced strain, Acapulco Gold, in 2018, I expected to feel relaxed and somewhat carefree instead, I found myself motivated to get things done around the house even after a long workday and on another occasion tapping into creative energy.

My perception of the effects had been based on the overall characteristics displayed by Cheech and Chong. I didn’t realize at the time that marijuana could enhance my overall mind, body, and spirit with energy, focus, and clarity. What a gift cannabis is… when you know how to use it. Speaking of gifts, Afghani came to us baring many; including the opportunity to fall asleep without the use of pharmaceutical meds, to reduce pain, and stimulate appetite. It is also a parent to another popular strain, Northern Lights. With its many benefits, it’s no wonder the government reportedly tried to recreate the magic. “According to one account, at least one U.S. Government agency was allegedly developing weed with assistance from the University of Mississippi, which is where government-approved cannabis grows. The suggestion is that the Gmen grew pure Afghani clones labeled from G1 to G23. While every clone had slightly different traits, G13 was allegedly the most stable.” (wayofleaf.com/)

Afghani was also popularized, albeit indirectly, by making its big-screen debut in American Beauty where Kevin Spacey’s character was offered what appeared to me to be an eighth to a quarter of G13 for $2000. It might not surprise you that this next energetic original made its way into the film as well. Durban Poison, originating from Durban, South Africa, is the name of a 2013 movie about a couple known as South Africa’s Bonnie and Clyde. Durban Poison also seems to be a popular song name, after doing a quick search on Spotify, there were at least 10 songs with “Durban Poison” as the title. If you’ve tried the uplifting strain, you don’t have to listen to each song to figure out they are singing its praises. Speaking of singing, Bob Marley’s favorite strain is frequently referred to as Lamb’s Bread. Also referred to as Lamb’s Breath, it originated in Jamaica and is a sativa cultivar that offers the consumer uplifting and pain-relieving effects. Lamb’s Breath is also a parent of Black Tuna whose name comes from the Black Tuna Gang that was famous for smuggling Colombian marijuana into the United States in the 1970s – and was reportedly packaged in tuna cans. Lastly, coming into the new age of consumption and according to an online source, Thai is one of the most cited weed strains in hip-hop history. The energetic cultivar leaves another mark, a quite spectacular one. What do you get when you combine Thai (energy-focus-creative) with Afghani (relaxed-sleepy)? Northern Lights the product of two “originals.” There are so many variables to keeping genetic lines pure and it’s hard to say if the strain of yesterday is the same as today. Yet in theory, if the cultivars were cloned from a mother plant, they will be exact genetic replicas. This process suggests keeping the plant in the vegetative stage with a steady light source (i.e., 18 hours light, 6 hours darkness) keeping the plant from flowering. You can then take cuttings and try to clone plants that are specifically for flowering and keep the original plant available for years to come. If you are growing outside, especially in windy states like Oklahoma, the wind will carry pollen for long distances - so check with an experienced grower for ideas on how to protect your crop from crosspollination. No matter what angle the subject of originality is approached from, one question seems to keep surfacing: “Is weed stronger today than in the 60s/70s/80s?” I see reports that the THC levels are higher today, but how do we know for sure since testing has advanced. Other factors to consider are the growing conditions and locations as they affect the profile outcome as well. With the variation in growing climates, it is understandable that a cultivar will produce different terpenes and levels of cannabinoids. As medical mindset consumers, we need to be made aware of those differences.

I’ve seen far too many strains be misrepresented because dispensaries have defaulted to the online profiles rather than the actual testing results. You might ask, “What does it matter?” For the consumer looking at online profiles, such as the strain Blue Dream, to help reduce pain and inflammation, they are expecting to see a terpene profile that includes myrcene, caryophyllene, and pinene – but if your testing results show completely different dominant terpenes, I believe the consumer should be made aware. Even if the consumer does not preview the profiles, they can still notice differences in taste and smell – all of which can be an indication to expect different results. So, if you are a seeker of originality, my advice is to be aware, educate before you medicate, and realize that sometimes, just like in Hollywood, the originals stand out year after year, and the sequel might be a flop, but it can also be just as fun. thechronicmagazine.com

G R O W & Growing on Your Own ENJOY by Chynna Pearson

When you are a marijuana user, sometimes going in to get your products from the dispensary can feel rather monotonous. Sometimes dispensaries only have the same sativas, indicas, or hybrids every time you go. It can all be a lot of the same thing. To remedy this problem, many patients and recreational users have begun to dabble in growing their own plants. If you are one of these people or are simply wondering if you should start to grow on your own, there are a few things to know before you just go out and buy a plant or some seeds from your local dispensaries. First and foremost, you have to check if you are allowed to have a plant in your home and, if you can, how many you should have. In Oklahoma, if you are a medical marijuana patient, you can have up to 12 plants in your home, 6 mature and 6 immature. There are other rules to this as well, for example, you must own the property where you are growing or have written consent from the landlord. The consent from the landlord can be in many forms a letter, an email, or an addendum to the lease stating that you have permission to grow marijuana on the premises. Additionally, there are municipalities that have zoning laws that you must abide by, some areas have rules where marijuana cultivation is only allowed in industrial areas. (Most places that people live in are going to be residential areas and therefore cannot grow in their homes. Be sure to check this too!) Oklahoma’s amount of plants is not the case for all states with marijuana laws, in Colorado and Connecticut residents are allowed to have up to 6 plants, 3 mature and 3 immature. In Oregon, residents are allowed to have up to 4 plants. This is crucial to know before you start planning your home grow, while marijuana is legal to have there are always stipulations on the amount one can have in their home or on their person. Secondly, you must plan your space to grow and also get all your supplies to take care of your plants so they produce good quality and a good quantity of marijuana. Before going to the store, it is imperative for you to be sure of where you want to place your plants, you will need room to grow. Ideally, it is recommended to have a window or vent in the room as growing marijuana obviously has a pungent smell and can be overwhelming. It is also possible to use a tent to keep everything together and kind of muffled. The area will also need to be climate controlled. This also helps with the fact that plants need air circulation to grow, they live for some good CO2! thechronicmagazine.com

The trip you’ll need to make to the store will have a long list but it shouldn’t be too hard to find all the supplies. Lights are one of the most important items to get and the popular type to get there are the two main types of HID (high-intensity discharge) lamps to use: metal halide produces light that is blueish and is typically used for vegetative growth and high-pressure sodium produces a more reddish color for use during the flowering stage. These light setups will require a ballast and hood for each light, many newer designs can be used with either type of light. There are other types of lights that can work well like LED and fluorescent grow lights. Another part of the supply list is getting some good quality soil for the plants. Some places actually recommend for first-time growers make their own soil. (Sounds excessive, I know, but it’s not that hard to mix up some dirt.) According to Leafly, you should try to combine the soil and let it sit for a few weeks to get nice and full of nutrients. Some of the ingredients would be worm castings, bat guano, biochar, peat moss, fish meal, compost, glacier rock dust, and more. If this is too much, you can always buy regular soil then fill in the gaps yourself with the nutrients you feel best fits your plants. You will also need some good pots, ones with quality drainage, oxygen, and enough space for the plant to expand its roots. Each type of pot has its pros and its cons, plastic, fabric, and ceramic, are each good in their own way.

For this, it is good to do your own research and check which type would fit well into your home growth. The last supply you’ll need is further education. For your plants to grow as well as you want them to, make sure you know what to look for when it comes to mold, pH levels, pruning, and potential pests. After collecting your supplies, the third task is to find a strain of marijuana that you enjoy because you may get quite a bit of flower from just one plant. Whether you want to get an indica, a sativa, or a hybrid, one marijuana plant will likely produce up to 150 or even 300 grams (experienced grows have gotten up to 600 grams from one plant, if that isn’t a reason to practice I’m not sure what is). When you have that much yield it might be a good idea to learn how to make edibles, maybe even buy one of those infused butter makers. Lastly, and most importantly, relax and enjoy what you are doing. I’ve heard it said before that you can grow marijuana if you can grow tomatoes; tomatoes are not hard to grow, they just need care and some extra love sometimes. So when trying to grow your own marijuana, be sure to remember you are helping something live and thrive so that you can also live and thrive. Helping a plant grow is often cathartic and can help with depression and things like needing to feel useful.

Always remember that when growing your own plants sometimes things can go wrong and they may either not produce as much as you hoped, not have the best quality, or even die. When things like that happen, do not be discouraged. Part of enjoying yourself while having a few plants of your own is loving the process itself.

THE WORLD OF CANNABINOIDS AND TERPENES

This primary regulatory mechanism, known as the endocannabinoid system, has an impact on a wide range of biological activities. Endocannabinoids and their receptors can be found in every cell of the body. The brain, organs, connective tissues, glands, and immune cells all contain them. The cannabinoid system has varied functions in different tissues, but the end objective is always the same: to maintain a stable internal environment despite external perturbations. By focusing on the balance of the ECS, I believe that every biological system may be restored and returned to homeostasis. The endocannabinoid system, with its complex actions in our immune system, nervous system, and all of the body's organs, is literally a bridge between body and mind. By understanding this system we begin to see a mechanism that explains how states of consciousness can promote health or disease. So here is to health and to going further with cannabis. The endocannabinoid system, which is possibly the most essential physiological system involved in creating and maintaining human health, was named after the plant that led to its discovery. It is, in my opinion, one of the most significant and widely distributed receptor systems in the establishment and maintenance of human health and stability. People all around the world have recognized the benefits of cannabis for thousands of years, but it wasn't until the early 1990s that researchers discussed and defined "the endocannabinoid system." This system is made up of a collection of compounds known as cannabinoids, as well as the receptors to which they attach; in other words, our bodies have a network of lock-and-key chemical receptors that respond to cannabinoid signals. Which is fantastic.

What is the Endocannabinoid System?

So, you want to take a trip into liminal space and time? Interested in traveling between dimensions from the comfort of your body? Eager to explore the auric galaxy? Then you’ve most certainly happened upon the right article! Allow me to teach you how to have a good trip! Planning a psychedelic trip is like preparing for a vacation; the real “money” is spent on the prep. Everyone does it differently with the same goal in mind, to enjoy themselves and avoid a bad trip. Sometimes the excitement can be overwhelming and cause us to dive into the proverbial void of dimensions, unprepared. Before we dive into our “good trip”- checklist, I feel the need to tell you that there is no such thing as a “bad” one per se. Lack of planning and information are the culprits for many not-so-positive psychedelic experiences. REMEMBER, the effects that psychedelics have on the body are PSYCHOSOMATIC, loosely meaning that the brain experiences and the body perceives. Take your mind to the depictions of bad trips in the media; they usually involve hallucinations, extreme paranoia, and embarrassing moments. While these reactions are possible, thankfully they are not guaranteed to happen. Below is the “Trip Hiker’s Guide to the Psychedelic Galaxy” checklist for how to have a good trip! These are the most important aspects of psychedelic travel I believe in based on my experiences and research. I hope you find this helpful as you prepare for your first, or next, journey!

PRE-TRIP INSPECTION Where are you going? Why do you want to go?

Are you stressed or at peace? Is this a deeply healing trip or a slightly less intimate trip into your own psyche? Ask yourself these questions while contemplating the next part of the trip. They will reveal to you the reason why you may be prompted to travel in the first place.

What time of day will you be taking your trip? Will you be indoors? Are you going to be home? All of these factors matter because your external stimuli can affect the way you perceive your trip. Being in a comfortable setting allows your mind to relax while in a healing state. Your home might be ideal. If possible, some form of natural setting is a great place to tap into the psychedelic world because of the lack of technology, and the influx of earth and atmospheric downloads (sunlight, fresh air, natural water sources, etcetera). Connecting with the deepest parts of your spirit requires vulnerability. Allow yourself space, physically and mentally. The time of day for your trip may be night because that’s when you have the least amount of distractions. It could be daytime because you enjoy the warmth of the sun and prefer to take advantage of the outdoors while there is still light in the sky. The choice is yours really! Consider what time of day you may be most receptive to the quiet (or the noise) of your own mind! Choose well. 3.TRAVEL BUDDY You may choose to travel with a companion or alone. Either way, it’s vital to let someone close to you, someone that you TRUST in your vulnerability, know that you intend to be checked into the galaxy for a bit. I say check-in and not out because you’ll be entering a mental space within your own psyche, simultaneously straddling the thin line between physical reality and the metaphysical plane. Let your buddy know before you begin and inform them when your trip is finished so that they are aware of your safety. If you ARE traveling with a buddy, and that person plans to consume, understand that you both may be experiencing similar phenomena…or not. Be aware of how you might feel around this person. Give yourself and your buddy space, talk to one another and provide physical comfort only with informed consent.

Artwork by: Ayra

1.CHECK YOUR INTENTIONS AND STATE OF MIND

2.TIME OF DAY AND LOCATION

Consider exchanging consent before the trip to ensure clarity. If your buddy is NOT traveling but is familiar with psychedelics, continue to tap in with them as best you can. thechronicmagazine.com

MAY 2022

36

Ask questions before the trip! Most experienced travel buddies are happy to help you understand the dynamics of psychedelics and ensure you’re as ready as possible, whether or not they accompany you on your journey. 4.MODE OF “TRANSPORTATION” AND DOSAGE Do you know what type of psychedelic you intend to consume? It’s important to know some basic information about what you’re taking and have an idea of your starting dosage. Make sure you're in touch with someone (either your psychedelic provider or travel buddy) that has traveled to the psychedelic galaxy. There is also a lot of information available across media and search engine platforms! Take advantage of this Aquarian age and do a bit of digging. It may prompt more specific questions that will help you find what you’re looking for. A sample chart of psilocybin (the psychedelic component of magic mushroom) dosage illustrates what you may experience while on your trip. You can find charts and other information like this on the web! 5.HYDRATION AND NUTRITION During my trips, I have often been very thirsty. Others have said this same thing. This is due to increased heart rate and blood pressure from consuming a mind-altering substance. I recommend your favorite drinking water for the trip! Sweet, watery fruits are also very hydrating and can help settle your stomach.

Try not to mix too many psychedelic substances, especially in large amounts. The idea is to invite steady and conscious healing of the brain. If you’re just looking to travel for pure enjoyment, still understand that more is not necessarily best. Remember to check your dosing. Ever been on a trip that lasted way longer than it should have? Neither have I. Keep the level of enjoyment at a good balance so you can continue to enjoy the journey again and again, and so you don’t have to tell a crazy horror story about that one time you had a “bad trip” (without divulging that you had way too much of a good thing). Go easy on yourself! 7.SENSORY STIMULATION Remember that this trip is an undercover healing mission for your brain. Brain-building activities that involve creativity and free expression are ideal to take advantage of the neurological stimulation that psychedelics encourage. Consider playing music with positive messages, instrumental or spiritual music that speaks to your soul. Reading, writing, crafts, dancing, yoga, exercise, playing…these are all cool activities to help move the surge of energy from your brain throughout your body.

The type of mushroom you consume, for example, might upset your stomach a little depending on your dosage and form of consumption. You could also end up with no appetite at all, as some psychedelics help regulate hypothalamus function (appetite control).

Another way that you can take advantage of the trip is by simply doing…nothing.

This is not to say that you can’t still enjoy junk foods. Grab a variety of snacks before your trip so that you will be ready for however you may feel during the trip. Snack away as your body allows. Listen to yourself!

Some may find themselves in a place on the journey where they are ok just BEING. Resting is a major part of having a good trip! Although sleep may evade you, if you allow things to flow naturally, rest will certainly make its way to you. Let your trip be good for you. Lounge with yourself or your travel buddy. Enjoy your existence for what it is while exploring the psychedelic galaxy.

6.MIXOLOGY

37

it can also increase stress, cause an extreme lack of healthy judgment, and decrease healthy neurological function. Imagine being on vacation and getting sick because you went too hard. Give yourself room to enjoy some things for what they are; the entourage effect does not apply in this case because these substances affect the body in totally different ways. Be cautious!

Try not to mix large amounts of alcohol with psychedelics. This can cause dehydration and gastrointestinal difficulties;

POST TRIP REVIEW 8.REST AND RECOVER

Artwork by: Ayra

Art

Let your trip be good for you. Lounge with yourself or your travel buddy. Enjoy your existence for what it is while exploring the psychedelic galaxy. If you happen to be active and then switch to a restful state (for example, taking a nature walk and then returning to home base), allow your body and mind time to catch up with each other. Whether or not you will be well-rested the next day depends on a few factors on this checklist, time of day is one of them! Try to make time for your rest. If you decided to skip the recommendations in the Mixology section, and made some different choices, you may find yourself more tired than usual. If this is the case, make sure you hydrate and take intentional time after your trip to recover. 9.REVIEW Whether you write it down, sing it or simply allow the thoughts to run through your mind, take some time to process the downloads that you received during your trip. What did you see? How did you feel at various points throughout your trip? What did you hear? What thoughts did you encounter that you normally would have suppressed (because the psychedelic galaxy is a realm of revelation)? You should remember many of the things you experienced mentally due to the “brain rewiring” phenomena promoted by psychedelic consumption. Your mind will be changed in a minute but permanent and positive ways. Be open to the healing aspects of witnessing self and the merging of self with elevated and expedited thought. 39

A FAREWELL

Psychedelic consumption, like hemp and cannabis consumption, can be considered therapeutic to the brain and body. Understand that your experience in the world of psychedelics can and should be comfortable, fruitful, and peaceful. Having a good trip is more about the mental space occupied. Your brain deserves healing, and psychedelics can help usher you into that place. This is not to say that we can completely rule out negative experiences; even with the most careful planning, anything is possible. However, preparation helps us to avoid the mental ditches we may get caught in while traveling. I’m passing this information on to you as it was downloaded to me from my own journey! We all deserve to have a good trip! Travel light. Travel safely. I bid you farewell.

Peace and Love, from a fellow Trip Hiker

GASTRO POP FLOWER AND LIVE HASH ROSIN GROWN BY CHILL DISPENSARY AND GARDENS | PROCESSED BY COUNTRY HASH

By Melissa Hall, M.Ed.

aack on the hunt, and the April showers sure have brought May flowers. I’m specifically referring to the Cannabis flower of course. With so many Cultivators, the Oklahoma Cannabis Market is full of many options for high-quality top-shelf flowers. This month while looking for that standout product, I came across a familiar name and shop that has undergone quite the transition. Especially on the grow side. Chill Dispensary and Gardens is located in Oklahoma City’s renowned downtown area, Automobile Alley. With a trendy and hip shop, Chill Dispensary and Gardens brings the garden literally into the dispensary. Giving transparency a new meaning, glass windows separate the actual grow from the dispensary, at Chill Dispensary and Gardens, patients can take a peek at the magic behind the scenes and see inside the actual grow. Chill Dispensary and Gardens also shares their dispensary with another popular attraction to Automobile Alley, Aces Disc Golf Supply. Chill Dispensary and Gardens gives off an amazing vibe. The shop is Fun, inviting, laid back, and relaxed while the staff also exhibits professionalism and expert knowledge of Cannabis. As thoroughly impressed as you will be with the Chill Dispensary and its counterpart, the always visible Garden, what will really sell you on this cool Canna-gem is the amazing flower, live hash rosin. Recently, Chill got an overhaul, and not just esthetics but the newly added growth and new Cultivator is what brought my attention back to Chill Dispensary and Gardens. The quality of the flowers was quite astounding. The live hash rosin, is even more impressive. The hard-working crew over at Chill combined with the well-known and very experienced Hash Maker/Processor Country Hash is putting out some exceptional products. You will find the Rosin exclusively at Chill and it is under their concentrate brand name, Polar Melts. The consistency of the live rosin is perfect, and the aroma and flavor of every strain are outstanding. But, One strain really caught my attention right off the bat. Gastro Pop, a Compound Genetics cross of the strains Apples and Bananas x Grape Gasoline, has a terpene profile that will make anyone smell twice. 43

Fruity, gassy, and even a little spicy, the Gastro Pop flower, as well as the Live Hash Rosin, have a pungent and distinct aroma and the flavor matches that aroma and intensifies it. This pheno, hunted by Chill Gardens, is absolutely extraordinary. Testing high in the THC range and terpenes, this girl has a powerful effect. Instantly relaxing, distracting, and an Indica lovers dream, she hits hard. You will not be disappointed with the effects. The bag appeal is stunning, as dark violet hues play background to dancing fiery orange hairs. The large buds are covered with sparkling crystals that hang onto every inch of this beautiful Gastro Pop flower. The Live Hash Rosin has quite the bag appeal itself. The Gastro Pop flower turned into a light and creamy natural vanilla-colored rosin. And, don’t forget about that extraordinary consistency and texture that we all have come to love from the team at County Hash. Country Hash defiantly worked their hash magic and shows off their skills with this Gastro Pop Rosin. Assuming Chill Gardens will Keep this one around for quite a while, follow @chillokc ok IG to find out when the latest drops of flower and Rosin will be and get there quickly! I purchased the Gastro Pop Rosin and went back the next evening to find it all gone. If you love good hash rosin, you don’t want to miss out on anything by this dynamic duo of Chill Gardens/Country Hash. We would like to thank Chill Dispensary and Gardens and Country Hash for supplying the Oklahoma medical marijuana market with clean, quality medicine. Be sure to stop in Chill Dispensary and Gardens in Automobile Alley in Okc, Ok. 22 NE 10th Street to be exact. Don’t sleep on this super fun shop and these amazing products Chill is putting out.

As always, remember to medicate responsibly and Stay Lit Oklahoma.

WHERE TO SMOKE

Medicine Park

OKLAHOMA

THE HEALING CLINIC Nestled in the Wichita Mountains is a beautiful little town known as Medicine Park where magic still exists. As you drive into the town you have the chance to take in the gorgeous views of towering mountains and running streams. Cobblestone walkways and walls lead you around town, where you will easily find The Healing Clinic a quaint dispensary full of hidden amenities. Appropriately located at the entrance to the town you can make it both your first and last stop before exploring the Wildlife refuge close by. Which is absolutely fantastic, because they offer an outside smoking lounge, which shares a yard with Medicine Park’s outdoor stage. Making it the perfect spot to smoke and enjoy the nature of the wildlife refuge. While Cannabis consumption is medicinally legal here in Oklahoma, federally it is still illegal, therefore consuming in the refuge could be problematic. Medicine Park, and The Healing Clinic offer a beautiful and pleasant place to enjoy your cannabis while uplifting yourself medicinally before continuing your mountainous journey into the refuge. thechronicmagazine.com

When entering the quaint little town The Healing Clinic happens to be one of the first businesses you will find. On a nice day like mine the budtender will likely greet you warmly at the big green door on the front of the cobblestone building. Welcoming you in, he begins to name off his favorite strains and the terps they provide, giving a knowledgeable and welcoming sense of customer service that can only be found in someone that truly wants to help you. While chatting and discussing strain options he takes the time to go over all the events and activities available in Medicine Park. We picked out a strain, Oreoz, a cross between Cookies and Cream and Secret weapon, sweet and gassy smelling strain for sure. We were the only ones in the shop so he escorted us out to the smoking area and showed us around. There is a great patio with quite a few chairs and a table with ashtrays. We sat down and discussed the neighboring stage and how often there are concerts. He excitedly informed us that every weekend someone is playing something over there. We took a seat and rolled our Meds while listening to our impromptu guide, informing us of the town's restaurant Riverside cafe, and how amazing it is, so we decided this is a must-stop. After enjoying Medicine Park and the smoking patio there, we decided to continue our journey. We are taken to the top of Mt Scott by our sober companion. Where we enjoy the amazing views of surrounding lakes and landscape. While the Oreoz highlight the beauty the mountains naturally exude, I find myself wandering carefully among the boulders of the mountain appreciating all the different sights. Jumping from rock to rock finally I find a ledge to sit and appreciate the view. I find myself staring at the lake down below, it has a little island and a boat moving next to it. I look further out still and can see small towns and the roads in between them.

I feel amazing, Life is grand.

Eventually, though the inevitable hunger begins to creep in, and I decided we should head back into town to the Riverside Cafe. We drive the beautiful trek back into town purposefully taking the longer route to see wild prairie dogs and buffalo. Once back into town we parked back at The Healing Clinic due to its proximity to the front of the town and the river the cafe happens to sit on. Of course, we take the scenic route and walk down the riverside which has a nice wooden walkway. The walkway takes you to a staircase and straight up to the restaurant's deck. To which we were quickly greeted and in no time at all taken to a table. Absolutely fantastic waiter, he suggested the catfish, and it was an excellent suggestion. It came with coleslaw and fries, the fish filets were thick and juicy with a crispy golden brown fried exterior. Maybe it was the Oreoz, but that was some of the best fish I have ever had in my life. Quite satisfied with our meal, we gathered our things paid, and headed to The Healing Clinic patio for one last session before leaving town. We sit out on the patio and roll a couple of joints admiring the town. Everything almost seems mystical here from the birds in the air to the splash of the creek. We know we can’t stay forever so we enjoy the last of our smoke and promise ourselves to come back soon. 49

Cannabis has been known to help people in many, many different ways. THC or CBD for either physical or mental pain has been proven helpful by legitimate studies and reputable professionals. Here at Chronic, we like to hear from people who attribute their survival to cannabis. This month we were lucky to hear from a lovely woman who, for this article, we will call Amy. Amy is a young woman who has lived all her life in Oklahoma. She was raised in a Christian household and was taught young about the many reasons to fear any type of drug, marijuana was one of them. As she grew and was taught to be drug-free in school as well, she abstained from partaking in any type of substance. Amy even explained that when she was a student at the University of Oklahoma she hardly went to parties and would only drink socially. By the time she graduated, Amy met the man who would become her husband. They lived together for a few years before marrying and now have two beautiful children. In 2018, when Oklahoma legalized medical cannabis, Amy was heavily pregnant with her first child. The pregnancy was rough and she was unsure if she would ever want another child after it. Like many pregnant women, her feet and back ached, she was having trouble sleeping, and would often find herself with swollen veins. When she gave birth, she had a rough go of it and was in labor for nearly 24 hours. Amy’s child arrived and was healthy and, to quote her, “an angel,” while she was delighted to have a healthy child, she still did not feel like herself. Even after a few months, she felt like something was wrong. Amy was one of the nearly 20 percent of women in America who are diagnosed with postpartum depression. Postpartum depression is not exactly uncommon, especially considering there are differing levels of it and some women with a lighter case may not be diagnosed professionally. There is no specific cause of postpartum depression but some symptoms of it include restlessness, anger or irritability, sadness, guilt, fear of hurting your baby or yourself, being overly worried about the baby or not concerned about the baby at all, lack of energy, trouble sleeping, headaches, chest pains, rapid heartbeat, numbness or tingling in the hands or feet, or fast and shallow breathing, and more. (If you’re familiar with using medical cannabis, these symptoms sound mighty familiar!) According to WebMD, postpartum depression has been linked to a drastic drop in hormone levels after birth, nearly tenfold.

Since she was diagnosed and did not breastfeed, she decided to look into getting a medical marijuana card to help combat her pain. Luckily for Amy, she got in early enough to get some of the first cards sent out by the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Association. Amy explained,

“If it wasn’t for the legalization of medical marijuana, I’m not sure if I would even be alive today... If I did survive, who knows how my mental state would be or the health of my babies.” thechronicmagazine.com

When she began using marijuana she started with microdosing. For Amy, microdosing was around 5mg of THC in the morning and 5 more at night. Sometimes she would mix in some CBD in the middle of the day if she was feeling worse than usual. The first night she decided to go ahead and begin microdosing, Amy said she felt a change as soon as it kicked in. Her mental state was lightened and her trouble sleeping was basically over (aside from the months-old baby crying in the night). Amy was finally able to feel like herself again; she explained that even though having to microdose every morning is still rather taboo to her, she wouldn’t have it any other way. This story is important for many reasons. Women that have gotten through postpartum depression do not get the help or recognition that they deserve. Especially when those moms are using marijuana to treat their symptoms. There is still a huge stigma around moms who use cannabis in any way. (Personally, if wine moms can be normalized, so can cannabis moms.)

Marijuana is no longer the scary drug we used to think it was, if you or someone you know might benefit from the use of marijuana, just know that you are not alone and can find people who understand exactly what you’re going through. There is a National Hotline available 24/7 if you are suffering from postpartum depression, please call (800) PPDMOMS or 1-800 773-6667. 53

Idris Elba Exposes Celebrity He Used To Sell Weed To While Trying To Make It In Hollywood

The actor fielded questions about his drug and alcohol use with the embattled musician while on the stand in his lawsuit against his ex-wife.

In news no one expected to hear, Idris Elba said he used to sell weed to a certain famous person. In a LinkedIn style-update, Elba decided to list off his previous side hustles when he was starting out as an actor. They included pretty relatable stuff like DJ gigs, working as a doorman... oh, and selling marijuana to one very well known celeb.

Johnny Depp had the courtroom in laughter as he fielded questions about his drug and alcohol use with Marilyn Manson during his defamation trial against Amber Heard in Fairfax County, Va

Okay, maybe the last one isn't as relatable as the others.

When Heard's lawyer, Ben Rottenborn, inquired about the actor's recreational substance use with the embattled musician during the actor's crossexamination, Depp said, "Yes, we drank together and we've had cocaine together maybe a couple of times."

But Elba did apparently used to sell to Dave Chappelle, as he revealed in a recent interview on SiriusXM's The Jess Cagle Show.

"I use marijuana… a lot!!!" one text message from Depp read. "The pill and the plant stuff keep me calm and detached."

People were quick to respond to news on Twitter, with one user writing: "Dave Chappelle buying weed from Idris Elba is kinda crazy." This isn't the first time Elba made headlines in recent weeks, as the American Gangster actor had to address rumours that he was quitting acting.

Some spectators at the trial began to chuckle after his remark. Text exchanges between Depp and Manson from September 2012 were also presented as Rottenborn attempted to paint a portrait of the actor's heavy drug and alcohol use.

True to his word, Elba was indeed quick to move on with the conversation, but the surprise revelation lingered. Though it will probably come as no surprise that marijuana was allegedly supplied to the stand-up comedian, who starred in the stoner film Half Baked.

Depp responded, "Um, I once gave Marilyn Manson a pill so that he would stop talking so much."

CBS Censors Justin Bieber at Grammys, Bleeps Several 'Weed' References

Mike Tyson punched a fellow first-class passenger aboard a Florida-bound flight because the “aggressive” man threw a water bottle at him, according to reps for the former heavyweight champ.

"I get my weed from California," Justin Bieber sang at the Grammy Awards on April 3 during his performance of "Peaches." But after several verses, CBS censored the word "weed."

Tyson was captured on video pummeling the man on the Wednesday night JetBlue flight from San Francisco to Miami, where he later appeared at a weed conference after party.

CelebStoners Willie Nelson, Paul McCartney, Chelsea Handler, Kacey Musgraves, Dave Chappelle and Bieber were among the nominess.

Prior to the beat down, the apparent harasser is seen on the video posted by TMZ standing over Tyson’s seat, waving his arms and talking animatedly while the former boxer sits quietly.

The Canadian pop star scored big with six total 2022 nominations, but left empty handed. Half were for his hit song "Peaches" on which he brags: "I get my weed from California/Pass that shit."

“Unfortunately, Mr. Tyson had an incident on a flight with an aggressive passenger who began harassing him and threw a water bottle at him while he was in his seat,” representatives for Tyson said in a statement.

Speaking on the show, the Luther actor revealed: "Dave Chappelle remembers me because he used to buy weed from me. Anyway, moving on."

Rottenborn replied, "Pills, right, with Marilyn Manson?"

Tyson was on his way to a weed conference: Water bottle incident behind airplane punch attack

San Francisco police responded about 10 p.m. to a “physical altercation” on a plane at the airport’s domestic terminal, officials said. “Officers arrived and detained two subjects that were believed to be involved in the incident. One subject was treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries. That subject provided minimal details of the incident and refused to cooperate further with the police investigation,” police said in a statement. Both were released pending further investigation, police added. The viral clip has been shared with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, which has jurisdiction over the airport, police said.

Johnny Depp jokes he gave Marilyn Manson drugs so he'd 'stop talking so much' in Amber Heard defamation trial

Peaches has since been branded as Bieber's weed strain. He received the following noms: Album of the Year (lost to Jon Batiste), Record of the Year (Soul Sonic), Song of the Year (Soul Sonic), Best R&B Performance (Silk Sonic/Jazmine Sullivan tie), Best Pop Vocal Album (Olivia Rodrigo) and Best Pop Vocal Performance (Rodrigo) and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance (Doja Cat featuring SZA). Bieber has won two Grammys (out of 22 noms), but none for his most popular songs. During "Peaches" on the Grammys show, Bieber repeated the weed line several times before the network bleeped out "weed" and "shit." However, you can hear "weed' if you listen closely.
