more plants in your life...

DECEMBER ISSUE thechronicmagazine.com

Plants are the original source of life on earth. They have been around longer than any other form of life and therefore, hold so much knowledge and power. Plants serve multiple purposes, one one of the main ones being a food source. Plants hold nutrients that no other food source holds, and are considered an alkaline (having the properties of an alkali, or containing alkali; having a pH greater than 7) food source, so naturally they help move the body from acidic to an alkaline state. And so, this is a good place to start.

AN ALKALINE BODY IS AN ALIVE BODY, NOT AN EXISTING BODY. The importance of having a more alkaline body should be high on everyone's list. U.S Health News says: “Adding more alkalineforming foods will help slow down the leech of calcium from your bones, helping maintain your bone health for years to come. They also help fight free-radical damage and inflammation while supporting healthy cellular regeneration within your body, so you can thrive.” Additionally, acidic bodies are homes for all types of diseases to thrive in. Rose Wellness, a Center for Integrative Medicine states;

“VIRTUALLY ALL TYPES OF DISEASES THRIVE IN AN ACIDIC ENVIRONMENT. IN FACT, TOO MUCH ACIDITY HAS BEEN LINKED TO INFLAMMATION, HEART DISEASE, OBESITY, DIABETES, AUTOIMMUNE DISEASE, CHRONIC PAIN AND OTHER CHRONIC CONDITIONS.” REASON # 2

REDUCE CHRONIC DISEASES All reasons link to producing a more alkaline body so that a home for diseases to thrive in, no longer exists. Alkaline isn’t a popular term or concern; however, with 40% of Americans diagnosed with a chronic disease, this has to be a popular concern.

The CDC reported that: “4 in 10 adults in the U.S have 2 or more chronic diseases. THE LEADING CAUSES OF DEATH AND DISABILITY.” Even the American government reports that plants are better but for some reason, they won’t make this a more plant friendly country. The US National Library of Medicine, says: “Research shows that plant-based diets are costeffective, low-risk interventions that may lower body mass index, blood pressure, HbA1C, and cholesterol levels. They may also reduce the number of medications needed to treat chronic diseases and lower ischemic heart disease mortality rates. Physicians should consider recommending a plantbased diet to all their patients, especially those with high blood pressure, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, or obesity.”

REASON # 3

BETTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT GLOBAL WARMING I’ll just leave this one to Vegconomist, who reported research conducted by University of Oxford, and the Physician’s Committee who reported research from the Lancet: “A new study conducted by the University of Oxford has found that a switch towards plant-based diets is vital to avoid the worst impacts of climate change. It follows on from a previous study by the university, which found that eating a vegan diet could reduce our carbon footprint by 73%.” “A report published in The Lancet in 2019 concluded that a dietary shift toward plant foods and away from animal products is vital for promoting the health of our planet. The report states that projections for the future show that “vegan and vegetarian diets were associated with the greatest reductions in greenhousegas emissions.”

ARE DELTA-8 THC BANS KILLING BUSINESS FOR DISPENSARIES, BUT

Helpful for Patients?!

by Nathanal Barr

Ok… let's be honest with ourselves here, you picked up this magazine because you’re either a frequent user of cannabis, fascinated by cannabis, or you’re just a cannabis hater here to get a laugh from us stoner writers justifying why we like to get high all the time. Regardless of your reasons for reading this today, cannabis is here and due to all of its wonderful medical benefits, it's here to stay. This can be confidently said because like everything that's a fact, it requires research and evidence which would have been needed before the legalization of marijuana anywhere. Not to compare the severity of cannabis and COVID19 vaccinations, but just like the pandemic we have had these past two years, scientists just like the ones that would study cannabis had to research through trial and error to finally come up with a now proven solution for the coronavirus which some people to this day are still skeptical of, this kind of goes hand to hand with the issue of legalizing and banning delta-8 THC.

(According to helthline.com) Delta-8 produces feelings similar to the wellknown THC, delta-9, and to those that don't want to experience what most would call a “high”, the lower potency may be a benefit for those particular people. Unfortunately for those who enjoy delta-8 but have had it recently illegalized in their state may have to wait a while to get that product back due to researchers still not knowing enough about delta-8 to confirm if its benefits outweigh the risks, like the betterknown facts and understanding that delta-9 offers. According to weed.com on the topic of delta-8 products in Oklahoma where it is legal for sale, states that

Education time! When talking about cannabis most people refer to the chemically compound known as THC, they are referring to delta-9 which is a one-digit increase to the name of delta-8 that is currently banned in many legal marijuana states.

13

DECEMBER ISSUE thechronicmagazine.com

“Local retailers that don’t specialize in hemp but carry a few delta 8 products may not know enough about the nature of hemp to know that they’re carrying a genuine, safe and high-quality formula.”

This statement is followed up by the answer of whether or not delta-8 product banning is killing business for dispensaries and the website states “these products may be sitting on shelves for a long time due to low demand in your area.” This is saying that the banning of delta-8 products doesn't affect the income of dispensaries as dispensers have plenty of other and some state “better” products for patients.

The next question is whether or not delta-8 products are good for patients? This can simply be answered due to controversy around delta-8 banning, as there is not much high demand and lack of testing using a controlled group of some kind, it is better to say that even though delta-8 products may do it for some consumers doesn’t mean that it’s overall good for patients without the factual knowledge of its safety.

Is Oklahoma the #1 Supplier

OF ILLEGAL MARIJUANA? BY CHYNNA PEARSON

Go back to content section As marijuana is growing in popularity, the people selling it are not always doing so in legal areas. While there are many states that have legalized marijuana in some form, medical or recreational, there are still places that have yet to even consider creating a legal form for people to access. Although, even in legal states there are people who would simply rather keep buying from a street vendor instead of going to get a medical card or going to a dispensary. (It’s good to support locally, but it’s better to support legally!) In fact, according to the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, Oklahoma is growing strong in the illegal sale of marijuana.

15

DECEMBER ISSUE thechronicmagazine.com

The state is nearly at the very top of the black market. Within Oklahoma there are over 8,500 medical marijuana grow licenses, OBN agents have estimated that around 25% of these licenses are run by illegal organizations from other countries like Russia or Mexico.

In fact, according to News9, there are around 40 marijuana farms in the Henryetta area alone.

With this high amount of illegal grows, there have been many Oklahomans reporting that near some of them it is hard to breathe. Without adhering to regulations set by the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Association, the illegal grows have an intense chemical smell, overly bright lights, loud generators, and very heavy traffic. These areas are likely to be placed next to family farms and are making the once peaceful area tough to live in.

Then the buyers will ask for closing to happen within the week. This is a troubling thing to hear considering that it is in the Oklahoma laws that at least 75% of land must be owned by an Oklahoman who has lived in-state for over two years.

Oklahoma State Drug Enforcement Agents say that buyers will come and scop up land for two, three, even ten times the asking price and pay in cash.

Unfortunately, due to the demographic of the people who are purchasing the land, this is a pressing issue to those who are suspicious of them and their intentions.

For issues like this, Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics Agents say that finding out the true ownership of the grows is difficult. Some illegal grows use ghost owners, there are even instances where the ghost owner is listed to own over 200 farms and shell corporations. Due to this issue, discovery of the true owner can be a big problem. Some of you may be asking, why would people choose Oklahoma, of all places, to start an illegal grow? The narcotics agents say that Oklahoma has much cheaper licenses and land, especially compared to popular places like California or Colorado. If you continue to compare the states to each other, something crazy to learn is that Oklahoma has 8,500 licensed grow operations while California only has 3,500. It is pretty interesting to think about how many grows there are in Oklahoma, especially when the state is much smaller than California. It begs the question, is it too easy to obtain a growers licence? If it is too easy, that may be something the Oklahoma lawmakers seem to look into. Additionally, with over 5,000 more licensed grow operations than California, Oklahoma must be shipping their product out of state, there is simply too much product being grown for it all to be going to medical dispensaries or CBD operators. This is against the law for Oklahoman grows to do but Narcotics Agents believe this is happening all the time, they have intercepted many shipments some have even been going as far as the East Coast. The DEA has also intercepted shipments from Oklahoma traveling to other states. Both organizations are determined to stop illegal growers along with the people who are at the top of these organizations. Unfortunately that takes time and many resources. At the moment, it has been reported that the Narcotics Agents have denied over 400 new licence applications and will likely have to deny many more as renewal time is just around the corner. According to Oklahoma City Fox 25, since April the Narcotics Agents have shut down nearly 40 illegal marijuana grows.

thechronicmagazine.com

DECEMBER ISSUE 16

Although this number seems low in comparison to the amount of grows in the state, this is due to how loose the laws are in Oklahoma regarding marijuana grows. With loose laws, there are less ways for enforcement agents to fully determine if a grow is illegal or not. Mark Woodward, a spokesman for the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, explained to Fox 25 that,

“We don't have tight regulations like other states, and so, it's really the perfect place for people who want to get into this business legitimately, but also for criminals to continue to pour large amounts of high-quality marijuana on the streets. They can supply the east coast with marijuana compared to trying to move it from California and Nevada, Washington and Oregon, where a lot of these criminal organizations had their base of operations,” he continued, “They get their license and they do everything right and on the surface. They will fly under the radar looking like the poster child for the marijuana program in Oklahoma, but 100% of their product is going in the middle of the night to the east coast for these criminal organizations and 100% of the money is moved all over the world.”

17

DECEMBER ISSUE thechronicmagazine.com

With how loose the laws are and how cheap the land is, it is no wonder why Oklahoma has been chosen to be a large part of the black market. This is an unfortunate occurrence as when the state first legalized marijuana, the market was flooding with legal growth and people who had been trying to work in the marijuana market for a long time. Now, as the popularity grows with the huge influx of illegal grows and licenses, they may begin to ruin it for the rest of us. It is a huge possibility for Oklahoma to crack down on the laws that make them much harder to navigate, making it difficult for legal and illegal growers. It’s just like back in elementary school, the kids making the teacher mad made us all have to do the pop quiz. Hopefully, this Bureau of Narcotics can put a stop to these illegal grows before every law is on the verge of changing. Because, while Oklahoma’s laws are loose, it made the market accessible for many people who wouldn’t have had the ability to enter if they lived in other states.

IS IT WORTH SPENDING ON EDIBLES AND HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

EDIBLES

BY THERIN MILLER

Edibles are anything that you put in your mouth and swallow. It covers a multitude of products and substances. Other than smoking, cannabis can go from your mouth to your stomach. Edible highs take 4-6 hours. It actually depends on the situation you are in but for the most part, you will still enjoy a good, long enough high. Some cannabis enthusiasts have claimed to go up to 12 hours high from a single good quality edible. Some products that will substantially give a range of 2 - 4 hours effect include dissolvable strips, tinctures, oils, isolates, and distillates. Edible highs last that long due to the cannabinoids that take a route reaching the receptor of the body and brain where they give the impact. When you ingest an edible, it goes to the stomach down to your liver, and through the bloodstream before it reaches your brain. The whole process takes time and it does not happen immediately. Digestion takes time as well. Basically, it is a combination of slow digestion and the process that the cannabinoids have to go through in the body that makes high last long. It is still worth spending on edibles to some for the convenience and the duration of high they experience. The factors that make it so are not limited to strain, cannabinoid content, quality, dose, and environment. It is important for those who are on medical marijuana to estimate the time of effect for example for nausea or OCD prevention. Others are purely for recreational purposes.

MORE THAN CHRISTMAS DECEMBER CELEBRATIONS TO CHECK OUT by Carisa Rowe

There are two types of holiday folks: those who are thrilled about and those who are… not. There are many faiths celebrating holidays during the winter months and even some celebrations for those who don’t resonate with a particular religion. While Christmas and Chanukah are familiar to many, there are some fantastic holidays going on throughout the month of December. Whatever your faith or not-faith, introducing cannabis to holiday traditions is a surefire way to cheer up the spirits of holiday gatherings and help keep winter doldrums at bay.

Chanukah NOV 28 – DEC 6, 2021

Beginning in November this year, Chanukah, takes place for eight days. The word “chanukah” translates into English to mean “dedication” and the holiday celebrates the faithful commitment of Jewish people to G-d in the face of oppression and genocide. This Syrian-Greek army was compelling Jews to convert to Greek ideals and destroying settlements across Jerusalem, stealing supplies, and leaving encampments and townships bereft.

After Judah and Maccabee lead a small band of Jews to drive the Seleucids away, they entered the Temple to find that they had only enough oil to light the Menorah for evening worship. Miraculously, the oil lasted eight days, until new supplies could reach the region. Believing this to be the work of G-d for the faith and commitment, the sages instituted Chanukah, a festival of lights. Lighting the Menorah is a sacred act in Jewish faith and is often accompanied with blessing .

Bodhi Day DECEMBER 8, 2021

Bodhi Day is a Buddhist holiday that celebrates the enlightenment of Buddha. In Buddhist history, Siddhartha Gautama had forsaken asceticism, which is the practice of avoiding pleasure, and chosen instead to sit under a Bodhi tree (peepal tree) to meditate until he understood where suffering originates and how one could liberate themself from it. thechronicmagazine.com

DECEMBER ISSUE 22

Modern celebrations include decorating a tree (sound familiar), exchanging naturebased gifts, building a Yule altar, making wreaths, and meditating.

Kwanzaa

DECEMBER 26, 2021 - JANUARY 1, 2022

Festivus DECEMBER 23, 2021 Bodhi day has many names, depending on where the Buddhists who are celebrating live. In Japan, it is known as Rōhatsu and in China, it is called Laba. Regardless of where it is being celebrated, Bodhi Day is a day of meditation, traditional meals, and reading.

Solstice DECEMBER 21, 2021

Winter solstice is the shortest day of the year and has been a day of celebration for millennia. Many winter solstice celebrations fire and light, life and death, the rising sun and the moon. Solstice celebrations include gift giving to please the sun g-d Saturnalia. Ceremonies take place at monuments like Stonehenge in England or the Goseck circle in Germany, both having strong ties to nonChristian ceremonial practices. Winter solstice is all about honoring the natural world and celebrators often build altars to evoke calmness and peace. Feasts are a common practice and feature rich, warm foods intended to carry the body through the longest night of the year. Gift exchanges incorporate natural elements and gatherings are marked by music, signing, and dance. Wreaths are a Solstice tradition and symbolize the continuing cycle of life.

Yule

Kwanzaa is also a young holiday. This secular celebration originated as a way to unite Black Americans in the aftermath of the Watts Rebellion which happened in 1966. Maulana Karenga, a Black nationalist, modeled Kwanzaa after traditional African harvest feasts. Festivus is a young holiday and perhaps the one that is the most open to interpretation. The best summation of this 45-year old holiday is “Festivus is for the rest of us”. Many of the December and winter holidays rely on faith, or general association to create a space for spirited celebration. These faith-based practices can exclude participants who may not share the faith. When a person doesn’t resonate with any particular faith but still wants to take part in winter fun, there’s Festivus. This holiday, created by Reader’s Digest writer Daniel O’Keefe, is largely a parody and aims to poke fun at the commercialization of the holidays. It was popularized by a 197 Seinfeld episode called “The Strike”. Common Festivus activities include feats of strength, the airing of grievances, a Festivus dinner, and a Festivus pole which may or may not be decorated.

23 DECEMBER ISSUE thechronicmagazine.com

Zartosht no-diso DECEMBER 26, 2021

The holiday is punctuated by Festival dinner and is often a potluck brought by celebration attendees.

Christmas DECEMBER 25, 2021

Zartosht no-diso is a day of remembrance that commemorates the death of the Iranian prophet Zoroaster. The Zoroastrian faith is one the longest continuously practiced religions in human history and centers on the teachings of the prophet Zoroaster. Zoroastrians believe in a “wise god” called Ahura Mazda, who is omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient who cannot be conceived by the human mind.

DECEMBER 21, 2021 - JANUARY 1, 2022

Yule traditions are very familiar to folks who celebrate Christmas, however this twelveday, midwinter, Germanic festival pays homage to the Norse g-d Odin and the sacrificial Pagan holiday Mōdranicht, or Mother’s Night. Yule is a celebration of winter harvests and historically featured sacrifices to Odin. Each night during Yule, farmers would visit the heathen (non-Christian) temple and participate in rituals and feasts aimed to please the king of g-ds.

There are seven principles to Kwanzaa: moja (unity), kujichagulia (self-determination), ujima (collective work and responsibility), ujamaa (cooperative economics), nia (purpose), kuumba (creativity) and imani (faith). There are seven symbols that are important in celebrating Kwanzaa: mazao (crops), mkeka (mat), kinara (candleholder), muhindi (corn), kikombe cha umoja (unity cup), zawadi (gifts) and mishumaa saba (seven candles). These candles are arranged on a table with three of them being red to represent struggle; three of them green, representing the land and hope for the future; and one of them Black, representing people of African descent. Homemade and educational gift exchanges are encouraged, but commercial gifts are frowned upon.

Christmas is probably the most familiar holiday on the list. This holiday celebrates the birth of Christian prophet and son of Gd, Jesus Christ. The holiday adopts many pagan, Wiccan, and occult rituals including Yule and Solstice practices. Trees are decorated, wreaths are common, gifts are exchanged, and prayers uttered. The holiday includes music, food, lights, and family gatherings. Festivities are accented by the introduction of Santa Claus, a benevolent gift-giver who travels the globe blessing faithful and good people with presents.

Zoroastrians attend temples and hold discussions and lectures about the life and work of their prophet. Zoroastrians focus on building three tenets of their faith during this holiday: good thoughts, good words, and good deeds. No matter how the holidays are celebrated, being connected to that which matters the most is of highest importance. Time with family and loved ones is always better with a freshly packed bowl or a delicious, infused treat. Topical creams infused with THC make spectacular gifts for almost any holiday and taking time to celebrate something new is the perfect way to uphold the spirit of the season.

Not to be outdone, Zen recently announced the release of their Hybrid tincture that boasts a nano-emulsified powerful 500mg THC blend evened out with 50mg CBD. These are made especially for high tolerances and will serve as a perfect gift for the experienced cannabis enthusiast or medical patient in your life. For a refreshing change of pace, Zen’s THC drinks are a tasty beverage that can either start the party or tone down and relax, all while helping consumers ease aches and pains. All drinks are also nano-emulsified, which cuts the size of activating molecules allowing a more rapid absorption of THC and CBD (bioavailability). Effects can onset in as little as 5-10 minutes, unlike standard edibles that can take up to 90 minutes. The popular Berry flavor comes with a 50mg THC strength in either Indica or Sativa variations. A classic piece of chocolate always makes for a perfect stocking stuffer, and Zen delivers a tried and true cannabis-infused milk chocolate bar bursting with 1000mg THC. With six flavors to choose from, there's a favorite for every taste; Classic Milk Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, Strawberries & Cream, Cookies & Cream, Peanut Butter & Chocolate, and White Chocolate. Zen chocolate bars are a sweet gift for high-tolerance enthusiasts, but first-time or light consumers should be advised to microdose the bar in small pieces (every bar is pre-scored to help micro-dosing). Even experienced cannabis users may find an entire 1000mg to be extremely potent. Cannabis edibles can make for a versatile holiday gift, and the proof is within Zen’s product lineup. It’s a thoughtful token for cannabis lovers, a fun new experience for the uninitiated, and even much-needed relief for medicinal consumers. No matter which type of person is on your mind, there’s probably something just right from Zen.

2021 CHRISTMAS GIFT GUIDE FOR THE STONER IN YOUR LIFE

HELLA JELLY

Any seasoned grower or cannabis newbie would be stoked to find a packet of Hella Jelly in their stocking. This standout sativa hybrid from Humboldt Seed Company was a 2019 pheno hunt winner, and was named one of the 11 best strains of the 2021 harvest by Leafly. Even esteemed reggae legend and cannabis advocate Damian Marley has jumped on the bandwagon, and is growing Hella Jelly at the Evidence brand grow in a former prison in central California.

???

This one will start your New Year off with a little sparkle and a serious hit of THC. We could all use a little bit of that right about now! With notes of blue cotton candy, strawberries and grapes this one will take you to a frosty winter wonderland. The effects are strong, but not debilitating. A cross between Very Cherry and Notorious THC, this one packs a punch. Hella Jelly is high in sesquiterpenes which last much longer than the common monoterpene, so your cannabis will still provide all the benefits that come along with terpenes for much longer. Hella Jelly is a Sativa strain with the growth habit of an indica, giving you sturdier structure and faster flowering, the best of both worlds! A great performer in all environments, but particularly ideal for a quick turnaround or areas where fall arrives on the early side. Oklahoma isn't the ideal climate for growing cannabis, but Hella Jelly has shown resistance to the state's most common cannabis pests and diseases while maintaining the terpenes that cannabis users love.

THE WORLD OF CANNABINOIDS AND TERPENES In the last 60 years, the interest in cannabis has been growing worldwide even though the use of cannabis as medicine goes back for thousands of years. The main reason behind such growing interest is the healing treatment of some serious illnesses. The healing power of cannabis most likely resides in terpenes/terpenoids and phytocannabinoids, of which particular compounds, their amount, and the ratio to each other play the most important role in the treatment of particular diseases. It should be emphasized here that flavonoids, flavonoid glycosides, polyphenol, and the other biodynamic compounds also play a large role. For this particular article, we will focus on terpenes. By now many of you have heard of them and may or may not know what they are. They are naturally occurring chemical compounds found in plants and some animals. They are responsible for the aromas, flavors, and even colors associated with various types of vegetation. In terms of cannabis, terpenes are what make certain cultivars smell or taste different from others. This may be the reason why you gravitate towards a certain flower to smoke. Not only do they smell good, terpenes/terpenoids also have a wide range of biological and pharmacological activities. For example, after much research, they have been found to be anti-fungal, antiviral, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antihyperglycemic, anti-parasitic, antioxidant, and antimicrobial. 43

So the next time you choose a stash for yourself, make sure you smell it and enjoy the aroma. Always allow your nose to be your guide. Not all cannabis cultivars are alike, and as organic farmers continue to breed their specific genetics, users need to know what the cannabinoid profile is. THE STONE SISTERS PIZZA BAR 2124 N Broadway Ave, Oklahoma City, OK

I drive down Broadway towards downtown often, I have always noticed The Stone Sisters Pizza sign and wondered about the place. I have heard many good things and lots of buzz surrounding the sisters and their amazing food and much to my delight, I found out that not only are the Stone sisters, real sisters, with the real name Stone. But, The Stone Sisters also serve cannabis-infused pizza and have CBD options available. One would assume that searching for a pizza place would be highly pro-cannabis consumption, so I decided to pop in for some of their much-talkedabout Happie flower pizza. Not knowing if partaking at the actual restaurant was an option, I’m always prepared so I grabbed a couple of Arbuckle Farms Holy Mac Rolls from Tegridy Market and headed to see The Stone Sisters and grab one of their famous pizzas instead of my usual drive-by. Definitely check the hours on Google and days when the sisters are open before heading down as they also rent out their facility for private events.

STONE |THE SISTERS

You can have the stone sister‘s pizza delivered through a third-party source, or order ahead when they’re there to pick up your pizza or have a seat for a second To enjoy these Very unusual, super delicious, and amazingly healthy pizzas. With specialty pizzas with names like bossy big sister pie, misunderstood middle sister pie, bratty little sister pie, Saint mother Sherrie pie, thanks to Gramps pie, front yard rumble with a side of hair pulling, and many other clever monikers. The Sisters' lightheartedness and sense of family preceded your trip. Upon arrival I am mediately noticed a couple of small patio tables and chairs in the front of the establishment and noticed a customer enjoying an afternoon cigarette, So I assumed this would be the perfect place to see the reaction of the sisters and their customers to open consumption of cannabis. I ordered my specialty pie to go and had no problems setting the 20 minutes to wait for it to bake, as it was a beautiful afternoon. The restaurant is very homey and welcoming, yet modern and crisp and super clean. The staff was amazingly friendly and the place was definitely busy. Which is always a great sign you’re in a good restaurant.

STONE |THE SISTERS

I sat at the cute patio table and decided to watch people while waiting on my “stoner pie” as locals call them. They really did not have much room for a smoking area but they are doing some rebranding and plan on expanding in that area so that will be something to look forward to on my future visits. Although not a ton of room, the patio table was inviting and everyone passing by was super friendly.

No one raised and I lit my very distinctive MAC pre roll, there’s no denying it’s cannabis with its stout aroma. Several people and staff members told me how good It smelled and asked where I got it. As expected, edible makers are pretty cool with smoking. Now, if you’re not quite a big smoker but you enjoy the benefits of cannabis and edibles then this amazing food is for you! Do not miss a chance to try anything with these wonderful sisters' products. Besides their amazing pizza, they also have salads, soup and of course vegan, organic and gluten-free options. The Stone Sisters story on its own is very interesting. The sisters’ path to health began when Sheli, then a pharmaceutical sales executive and mother, lost her husband to cancer. Fueled with a passion to choose the right foods and products for her family, she earned her certification in traditional nutrition and set out to change the world—beginning with her sister Tami. Tami was living an unhealthy lifestyle that she says took her down a dark path, one that required drastic changes to alter her course.

“My sister Sheli took me under her wing and taught me about traditional nutrition. When I saw the results in my own life, Sheli’s passion became mine and we became a team.”

THE STONE SISTERS PIZZA BAR 2124 N Broadway Ave, Oklahoma City, OK

The two sisters began educating people about how many health conditions can be resolved with traditional nutrition and good eating habits. As their followers grew, the sisters developed a recipe for organic sprouted spelt dough and pizza sauce that everyone loved. They wanted to open a restaurant, but they needed someone who was positive, energetic, and organized to keep them on track. That someone was eldest sister Traci. With the help of three amazing individuals, Jim Osteen, David Hooten, and Chef Cally Johnson, the three sisters opened Stone Sisters Pizza Bar in May of 2017. One first time customer said, “The sprouted spelt crust can only be described as an epiphany. Seriously? I couldn’t believe I was eating a pizza that was organic, gluten friendly, non-GMO, and it tasted like a slice of heaven!” The sisters credit their success in life to their mother. She taught them the meaning of unconditional love as she demonstrated unwavering faith in the face of adversity. Sherrie volunteers her time at the restaurant, where she makes brownies and serves up smiles for everyone she meets. The Stone Sisters are all about making a positive change in the world through their love of people and healthy pure organic food. Sheli says, “Our purpose is to change lives through nutrition education and providing people with whole food choices that can stop the unhealthy cycle of disease. Oh—and we’re having a darn good time doing it!” The Stone sisters state. I expect big things from these three sisters, order a pie, have a smoke if needed and no doubt you will feel right at home.

HIGH RISE PREMIUM CANNABIS

By Melissa Hall, M.Ed. Back on the hunt, and just as Holiday cheer, festive lights, and the impending New Year are inevitable, so in my quest for the best. As we prepare to leave 2021 behind, we will also be setting the bar higher for the quality of top-shelf flowers. As experienced cultivators still flock to the “Green State” of Oklahoma, and new cultivators get better and flourish with every run, last year's “Top Shelf” flower may have some tough competition with all the impressive new drops coming up. When choosing the last big review of the year, one growth immediately came to mind and I just had to check out their newest run, that’s been causing some buzz for sure. When I got my nose on it, I knew this was the cultivator and cultivar I must choose for The last Big Review of the year. Not a new name at all to highquality top-shelf flowers, High Rise Premium Cannabis has earned its rightful place on any top shelf in Oklahoma, hands down. Their exquisite bag appeal, amazing and intricate attention to detail, outstanding consistency along with their good neighbor reputation has built a solid and well-recognized brand for High Rise Premium Cannabis. High Rise Isn’t just known for its outstanding flower, but also its single-source solventless hash in many varieties and strains. They have some exceptional “Old School Hash” that I must highly recommend and it’s super affordable for patients, with all the benefits that solventless extracts provide. When asked what sets them apart, High Rise told The Chronic,

“Utilizing state-of-the-art environments to produce high quality, clean, and unique Cannabis products to medicate the patient and satisfy the connoisseur.” The hard-working and dedicated team over at High Rise and High Rise Extracts has recently ventured into the Dispensary Owners Club. Their mostly vertically integrated dispensary is called High Rise Wellness OKC and is located on the 39th street Expressway in Bethany. The newly opened dispo offers patients the highest quality products for the most affordable prices. The good people over at High Rise really know and care about quality. Drew House, the lead Cultivator, and cofounder of High Rise graduated from OSU with a degree in Horticulture with the intention to grow medicinal Cannabis.

When SQ788 passed, Drew was approached by Pedro Nieto, the other eventual co-founder of the company with blueprints to a warehouse and the goal of building out a cultivation facility.

One strain especially caught my eye, when visiting the High Rise Wellness Dispo. Galactic Runtz, a truly interstellar strain.

The company started with 20 lights and rapidly expanded into a 100 light state-of-the-art cultivation facility equipped with a solventless extraction lab for the High Rise sister company 'High Rise Extracts'. Back at that new dispo, After 2 years of exclusively being wholesale distributors, they decided it was time to go vertical and open the first High Rise dispensary in Bethany, Oklahoma.

The bag appeal itself is out of this world. Brought to us by Exotic Genetix, Galactic Runtz crosses the wellknown Runtz (Zkittlez x Gelato) with falcon 9 ( Sunset Sherb x Tina). This girl packs a punch! Indica leaning, this gassy and dank strain is true to its heritage. With a gelato back flavor, the taste and aroma mimic each other. A touch of creamy vanilla mixes with the undertones and the fruity notes from the Runtz give way to a deep yet smooth flavor.

The store, 'High Rise Wellness, is unique as it is one of few vertically integrated brands that create both high-quality craft flower, and solventless hash rosin. This single-source model allows them to offer some of the highest quality products at a more affordable price to the patient. High Rise Wellness does stock several other premium Cannabis brands, however, they are thoroughly vetted before making it on that already well-known High Rise top shelf. The team states that patient satisfaction and safety are their top priorities. When asked about what’s coming up for the team, they stated,

“The future of High Rise will be a continuous refinement of our craft while expanding our scope and reach. We will continue introducing new products, retail locations, cultivation facilities, and processing labs without ever losing sight of our quality, and the exceptional experience we intend to provide our patients and consumers.”

The effects are not for beginners as this Indica leaner hits hard enough to feel. Great for an evening smoke. High Rise truly had so many amazing cultivars it was hard to choose. I would recommend anything grown by this hard-working team. Be sure to pop in High Rise Wellness Okc and check out the new shop! The good folks over at High Rise work hard to provide the top of the top in Cannabis products. Thank you so much for giving The Chronic an inside look at your brand and flower. The Chronic and I would like to wish everyone a Happy Holiday Season. As always, remember to medicate responsibly and Stay Lit America.

Can I get Marijuana Out of My System Immediately? by Therin Miller

Y

ou think drowning it with water and secreting it would make it go away. It is not as easy as you think. It is science. You have to know a lot more about how cannabis works and how drug metabolites work in your body. In this case, you will know how to detox fast but not immediately. There are plenty of myths, proven or otherwise, to pass a drug test. It is more important to know how to really get marijuana out of your system and be clean. The compounds that are brought about by smoking weed turn into metabolites. Metabolites are cells that stay in the body until they are expelled. It is true that metabolites leave the bloodstream through the bladder, bowels, and sweating. The active ingredients are cannabis and cannabinoids. Cannabis can get stored in the fat. It can stay up to 30 days or longer and therefore there is no immediate cleanup of the system when it comes to marijuana. So how long will marijuana take to leave your body? This is one difficult question to answer because the speed of metabolites exiting your body will depend on the type of drug, amount taken, frequency of use, general state of health, overall body fat, lifestyle, and metabolism. It is not guaranteed that drug metabolites will exit the body immediately. Cannabis is detectable in the urine if you are an average user up to 3-5 days and 30 days for chronic users or with high body fat. How do you detox from weed then?
