G-20 is a Great Opportunity

With Indonesian President Joko Widodo handing over the gavel, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the lead in the G-20 process that will place India at the forefront of consensus-building among the world's biggest economies of the year. The presidency, which beganin December, comes at a time when the world is grappling with economic difficulties and global recessionary tendencies. Added to this is the political polarisation between the USA, the European Union and Russia, in the G-20.

Despite fears that G-20 members would fail to provide a joint statement, Sherpas of every delegation persevered to succeed in a 17-page agreement document. Expectedly, there was hassle over the paragraphs on the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Asian nation’s role in tempering a number of the language throughout the negotiations has been highlighted. The bulk of the G-20 leadership wasn't in favour of equivocating on the conflict, as India and some alternative countries are doing. The joint communique aforesaid that “most members powerfully condemned the war in Ukraine”. it had been a positive sign that where as Russia protested the statement, its secretary of state Sergey Lavrov was present, and President Putin’s absence really contributed to a lot of manageable summit for Indonesia. The fact that Mr. Modi conjointly extended his hand to Chinese President Xi Jinping through out the banquet is in distinction to their stony manner at the SCO summit. Where as Mr. Modi could justify the shift domestically, his call to talk to the Chinese President conjointly reflects the sensible reality that India, as host of the G-20 and also the SCO in 2023, can get to make sure the full participation of these groupings that embrace rivals admire China and Pakistan. Much such pragmatism is necessary for India in its year of the G-20 presidency, with about two hundred conferences planned to attain this national capital will achieve board all countries with its vision for the forum’s future — steering the world’s economic leadership through this troublesome phase and getting ready for future perils together with global climate change and world warming, food and energy shortages, the act of terrorism and conflict and bridging the digital divide.

GAU MATA SEWA SHOULD BECOME A NATIONAL MISSION

He is the first person in India to introduce Gau–Mata Diksha systematically and start to perform Gau Mata aarti in the morning and evening in Gau–Shala’s. OUR CONSTITUTION

TRADITION OF INDIA FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS - NARENDER

Some certain days and occasions strengthen our bond with the past. Motivate us to work in that direction for a brighter future. The 26th of November is one such historic date. We duly adopted the constitution with a new look about 73 years ago.

Heavenly voices echoed in the Central Hall of Parliament seven decades ago. Every article of the Constitution was thoroughly debated. Arguments, facts, and ideas were exchanged; faith, dreams, and resolutions were discussed. In a way, this place in the Central Hall of Parliament was the great Kumbh of knowledge, where great efforts were made to put into words the dreams of India's people from all over the country. Countless great men, including Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Dr. Bhimrao Babasaheb Ambedkar, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Pandit Nehru, Acharya Sukrani Ji, Maulana Azad, Purushottam Das Tandon, Sucheta Kriplani, Hansa Mehta, LD Krishnaswamy Iyer, NK Gopalaswamy Ayyangar, John Mathai, who made direct and indirect contributions, have handed us this great legacy in our hands. Just imagine what would have happened if we had been tasked with writing the Constitution today. Despite the shadow of the freedom movement, the flame of patriotism and the horror of the Partition of India, national interest was paramount and was the sole mantra in everyone's heart. In today’s context, binding the entire country full of diversities, many languages, dialects, sects, and princely states through the Constitution and charting out a strategy to move forward, I do not know if we could have written even one page of the Constitution. I want to salute those great individuals because, despite having different points of view, they sat down and wrote a Constitution with the belief that national interests come first. Our Constitution is more than just a collection of articles. Our Constitution is the modern manifestation of millennia of uninterrupted tradition.

As a result, we must adhere to the Constitution in both letter and spirit. When we fulfil this constitutional system as people's representatives from the Gram Panchayat to the Parliament, we must always remain committed to the Constitution in letter and spirit. While doing so, we should recognize the issues that are detrimental to the idea of the constitution. Therefore, we should observe Constitution Day every year to assess whether our actions are correct or incorrect in light of the Constitution. It would have been better to make the tradition of celebrating 26th November as Constitution Day in the country soon after independence and after the Constitution of India came into effect on 26th January (1950) so that our generations could understand how our Constitution was made, who were the people behind it, under what circumstances it was made, why was it made, where, how and for whom does the Constitution take us to? Suppose all of these issues were addressed on an annual basis. In that case, the Constitution, regarded as a living entity in the world and a social document, could have been a powerful force for a diverse country for generations.

But some people should have taken advantage of the opportunity. What could have been a greater holy occasion (to celebrate Constitution Day) on the 125th birth anniversary of Babasaheb Ambedkar? Babasaheb Ambedkar has given a great gift and we should always remember him in the form of this scripture forever. I must mention what Babasaheb Ambedkar said in his closing speech on November 25, 1949, a day before the Constitution was adopted. Babasaheb reminded the nation that India gained independence for the first time in 1947 and became a republic on January 26, 1950. That is not the case. India was once independent, and we had several republics. He also expressed regret that we had lost our freedom and republican character in the past as a result of our own mistakes.

January 2023 DAWN OPINION
15
HAS BEEN A GREAT
MODI

OPINION

In such a situation, Babasaheb had warned the country and asked, "We have got freedom; we have also become a republic; but can we maintain it?" Can we take lessons from the past? Had Babasaheb been there today, hardly anyone would have been happier than him because India has not only answered their questions over the years but has further enriched and strengthened its freedom and democracy. Therefore, on the occasion of Constitution Day, I proudly remember and bow down to all the colleagues in the legislature, executive, and judiciary who have kept the spirit of the Constitution intact over the last seven decades. I especially bow down in front of 130 crore Indians who will never let India's faith in democracy diminish. Our Constitution has always been considered a holy book, a guiding light.

The 73-year history of the Constitution has brought mixed emotions of joy and elation. The joy is that the spirit of the Constitution has not wavered. If such efforts have ever been made, the countrymen have collectively failed them. The Constitution has not been subjected to criticism. We have been able to progress towards Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat because of the strength of our Constitution. We have made all the reforms together within the ambit of the Constitution. For this vast and diverse India, for a new India for a golden, progressive future, only the Constitution, the limitations imposed by the constitution, and the spirit of the Constitution are all we can count on. Our constitution is the biggest and most sacred book for us. A book in which our life, our society, our traditions, our beliefs, our behaviour, and our ethics are included with all of them. At the same time, there are solutions to many challenges as well. Our constitution is comprehensive because we have kept our windows open for outside light. And along with that, the light within has also been allowed to ignite more.

I'll reiterate what I said in 2014 while speaking from the ramparts of the Red Fort. If I had to summarise the Constitution in two words, I would say "Dignity for Indians and Unity for India." Our Constitution guarantees the dignity of every citizen. It has

maintained India's unity and integrity. Our Constitution is the cornerstone of global democracy. It not only makes us aware of our rights, but also of our responsibilities. Our constitution is, in a certain sense, the most secular in the entire world.

There are no limits to what we can accomplish, how big our dreams can be, or where we can go. The Constitution mentions rights, and the Constitution requires the performance of duties. Are we, as individuals, families, and societies, as serious about our responsibilities as our Constitution, country, and citizens' dreams demand? As Rajendra Babu Ji stated, we must establish what is not written in the constitution by convention, which is also a speciality of India. We have emphasised our rights in recent decades, which was both necessary and correct. Because such systems have been established in society, a large segment of the population has been denied rights. It was only possible to instil a sense of equality and justice in this large group by first introducing them to the rights.

However, the hour needs us to reflect on our duties, responsibilities, and rights as citizens. Because we cannot protect our rights unless we carry out our responsibilities, parents fulfil their responsibilities when they send their children to school. However, if they consciously insist on their child learning the mother tongue, they are fulfilling their civic duty to serve the nation. A citizen also fulfils his civic duty if he saves water drop by drop.

This year marks 75 years of independence. This is Amrit Kaal. It was only natural and necessary to fight for Indian citizens' rights because the British were actively obstructing their rights. It is only natural that everyone, including Mahatma Gandhi, believed that Indian citizens should have equal rights, so he continued to fight. However, it is also true that Mahatma Gandhi tried to prepare the country for duty at all times, even while fighting for the rights of the freedom movement. He continuously tried to sow

January 2023 DAWN
16

the seed of cleanliness, adult education, respect for women, empowerment of women, use of khadi and the idea of Swadeshi and self-reliance among the people of the country.

But the seeds of duties that Mahatma Gandhi had sown should have become a banyan tree after independence. But unfortunately, such a system of governance developed that only talked about assuring the rights of the people as long as they (political parties) were there. It would have been better if the duty had been emphasised after the country’s independence; then the rights would have been automatically protected. Duty gives a sense of responsibility towards society. Rights sometimes lead to a tendency that ‘I should get my rights’ and there is an attempt to frustrate society. With the sense of duty, there is a feeling in a common man that this is my responsibility which I have to fulfil. And when I perform the duty, then someone’s right gets automatically protected, respected and honoured. A healthy society is created as a result of both duties and rights.

It is necessary for us to walk on the path of protecting our rights through duties during this Amrit Mahotsav of freedom. It is the path of duty in which rights are guaranteed; it is the path of duty which accepts others’ rights with respect and gives them their due. And when we are celebrating Constitution Day, we should always have this spirit that the rights of everyone will be protected if we continue to walk on the path of duty with a greater degree of devotion and rigour. Today we are fortunate to fulfil the dreams of the freedom fighters with whom they had made India. We should leave no stone unturned to fulfil those dreams.

I would definitely like to mention what Babasaheb Ambedkar said in his last speech on November 25, 1949, a day before the adoption of the Constitution. Babasaheb reminded the country that India became independent for the first time in 1947 and it became a republic on January 26, 1950. It is not so. India was independent before and we had many republics too. He further expressed anguish that, due to our own mistakes, we have also lost our freedom and republican character in the past. In such a situation, Babasaheb had warned the country and asked, "We have got freedom; we have also become a republic; but can we maintain it?" Can we take lessons from the past?

Constitution Day should also be celebrated because it allows us to evaluate whether our path is right.

In this Amrit Mahotsava of Independence, it is necessary for us to move forward on the path of duty so that our rights are protected.

DR. VERGHESE KURIEN

Father of the white revolution

BORN: 26 NOVEMBER 1921 I DIED: 9 SEPTEMBER 2012

In this period of Azadi Ka Amrit Kaal, when the country is moving towards fulfilling its resolve of a developed India by promoting self-reliance, then it is also an appropriate occasion to pay homage to the great personalities who helped India to strive for self-reliance at a time when a newly independent India was trying to make efforts for a giant stride for fast progress. One such personality is Verghese Kurien, who envisioned the White Revolution at a time when the country could not be self-sufficient in milk production. India, which was once dependent on other countries for its milk requirements, is today the world's largest milk-producing country. This has been made possible because of the thinking of Verghese Kurien, who first made the farmers of Kheda, a small Gujarat district self-supporting and then presented to the world the best model of a cooperative organisation like Amul.

The brains behind the success of the white revolution are Verghese Kurien and Tribhuvan Das.

Born on 26 November 1921 in Kozhikode, Kerala to a civil surgeon, Verghese Kurien earned a BE degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Madras. After which, he went to the University of Michigan, USA, to do his post-graduation on a government scholarship. According to the terms of the scholarship, he

was required to work in a government institution for at least three years on his return to the country. Dairy engineering was also a subject in his mechanical engineering. At the same time, just before independence, in 1946, milk-producing farmers in Kheda, Gujarat were agitating against the British government on the advice of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. In those days there was a company called Polson that had the authority to buy milk in the region. Kheda and Anand were then part of the Kaira district of Gujarat. The company would buy milk at arbitrary prices and impoverished farmers will benefit nothing from it. Sardar Patel advised the farmers to form a cooperative society and take permission from the British government to set up a Pasteur plant. He told them that if permission was not given, do not sell even a drop of milk. The government had to bow down and thus the Kaira District Co-operative Milk Producers Union was born. Tribhuvandas Patel was appointed its first president and the business started from two villages and an average of 250 litres of milk per day.

By the end of 1949, the government accepted his request. He was preparing to leave Kheda. When Tribhuvan Das Patel came to know about this, he immediately reached Varghese Kurien along with the farmers. After much deliberation, Dr. Kurien decided to join the Kheda District Co-operative Milk Producer's Union. On 1 January 1950, he joined it as a

When you are holding a cup of tea in your hands in the morning or consuming a glass of milk at night, you are contributing to the biggest movement of Indian selfreliance. Because of this cooperative model's success, India is the world's largest milk producer with a share of 21 percent in the global milk market.

This committee was in its infancy when Dr. Verghese Kurien, who had returned from America after completing his education was assigned to a Government Creamery located at Anand in Gujarat to serve his bond period. Kurien came in touch with Tribhuvan Das. After several meetings, they got to know each other well. Kurien continued to help him in many cooperative dairy matters. Kurien who was not feeling very comfortable at this place requested the government several times to give him a posting in some city.

manager. The biggest challenge before Verghese Kurien as manager was the growing number of milkproducing farmers. With the farmers joining continuously, there was so much inflow of milk that it was not being consumed. Until that time, in Europe and New Zealand, the oversupply of milk was converted into milk powder. Europeans and New Zealanders used to say that only cow's milk could be made into powdered and condensed milk. But Kurien, his friend, and partner HM Dalaya surprised the world by making skim milk powder and condensed milk from buffalo milk.

Kurien's modern education and techniques combined with the farmers' traditional skills and empirical knowledge revolutionised this sector. The committee made a wide range of dairy products from butter and cream to cheese. In 1955, when the time came to decide on the brand name of Cooperative Dairy, Dr Kurien named it Amul (Anand Milk Union Limited). In 1956, Amul started processing 1 lakh litres of milk daily. Now Amul's products from Gujarat started being sold in other states. When production increased, Dr. Kurien set up a plant for cattle feed in Kheda. The then Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri arrived for its inauguration. Here he was surprised to see the prosperity of the milk producers in Kheda. He asked Kurien to come to Delhi after making a plan to find ways to replicate the success of the Kheda model in the whole country. Thus, in 1965, the National Milk Development Board (NDDB) was established, whose function was to form cooperative milk societies and unions across the country in line with the Anand model. Kurien became the chairman of the board. In 1969, when the Government

of India announced the Operation Flood program to develop the dairy industry in the country, the need for a public sector company was felt for the smooth distribution of government resources. Thus the Dairy Corporation of India (IDC) came into existence in 1970. In October 1987, NDDB was reorganised and IDC was absorbed into it. 'Operation Flood' was implemented in three phases. In the first phase, Dr. Kurien built about 13 dairy plants across the country and established one cattle feed plant. The second phase started in 1980 and lasted till 1990. During this period, Kurien established about 170 dairy plants and 32 cattle feed plants across the country. Then came the third and final phase of "Operation Flood". It started in 1990. Under it, those Dairy Cooperative Societies were identified, that were not functioning properly. Efforts were made to improve their conditions by setting up a separate fund for them. Milk vending machines were installed in various parts of the country to make getting milk easier for people. Large containers of milk were installed at the shops. In 1997 "Operation Flood" was completed. This helped in providing good quality milk at the right prices in more than 700 cities in India, while the animal husbandry sector also became a major source of income. During Operation Flood, India shed its tag of the milk deficient country to be recognised as one of the largest producers of milk. In 1998, India became the largest producer of milk in the world.

For his accomplishments, the world called Verghese Kurien the father of the white revolution. The journey that started with annual milk production of 17 million tonnes in 1951 reached 209.96 million tonnes in 2021. Kurien was awarded the Padma Vibhushan by the Government of India in 1999. He was honoured with awards like Ramon Magsaysay and World Food Prize. National Milk Day is celebrated on his birthday on 26 November to remember his contribution to India's White Revolution. In 2012, at the age of 90, Verghese Kurien left for the heavenly abode.

Affordable Housing

Poor living conditions are one of the biggest drawbacks of growth in India. Slow growth in every spectrum possible. The real-estate sector is looking at a massive growth potential in the next 5 years. The real estate business is worth more than 12,000 crores and is expected to be worth 93,000 Crores by the year 2040 but utilisation of funds in the right aspects is essential as well.

Affordable housing is an imperative aspect of growth in India in every aspect possible. Building houses which are affordable for the lower income groups will be extremely beneficial in the long run not just for the builder but for the tenants as well. Living conditions of many big cosmopolitan cities in India are becoming worse day by day, people get sick because of unhygienic conditions, congested spaces degrading the quality of life, etc.

The above-mentioned situations keep the growth stagnant and reduceitslong-term positive impact of it. Affordable housing has much greater importance in retrospect to what we know. Researchers have shown the conditions of people living in bad conditions and how it is affecting them in every possible manner.

Affordable housing will solve a lot of problems in the long run. How?

Environmental impact: Poor conditions and discarding of goods lead to pollution of the environment which further necessitates the increase of countermeasures. A bad environment is a threat to people, especially in terms of health.

Overpopulating of urban areas: A lot of Indian cities have seen large numbers of people migrating which results in the accumulation of people in one area. Overpopulation and unclean surroundings will pose a threat to everyone. Adding to that, increasing congestion will lead to socio-economic barriers and domestic conflicts.

Better growth for families- A stable house increases the focus of people in a lot of different arenas because shelter is one basic and most important human need, once this is checked off people tend to focus on other aspects of growth. Studies have shown improvement in multiple aspects of people who come from stable housing situations.

Increase in job opportunities- Better housing projects

mean more people coming and staying. This creates a lot of opportunities for employers to look for people in the vicinity and vice-versa.

What can be done to improve the affordable housing sector: Reduce expenses for builders for them to promote affordable housing and not focus on profit maximization

Reduce land taxes to improve localities and interweave people with different jobs available in the area Subsidisation of different benefits so people of lower income groups are interested in living in those apartments and improving their quality of life

Conditioning of the real-estate sector is important when it comes to growing in a linear manner. Improved conditions will help children study better, explore more and live a good quality life with a potential for growth.

Real Estate is responsible for the growth of different aspects in many great ways. Proper utilisation of land without harming the environment and providing better quality life to people will slowly improve the different sectors which will provide even greater benefits in the long run.

INDIA'S TARGET OF ACHIEVING 100 PERCENT ELECTRIFICATION IN AUTOMOBILES BY 2030

The electric vehicle industry in an India is picking pace with 100 percent FDI possible, new manufacturing hubs and an increased push to improve charging infrastructure. Federal subsidies and policiesfavour deeper discounts for Indian-made electric two-wheelers,and a boost for localised ACC battery storage production are other growth drivers for the Indian EV industry. The Charging Infrastructure for Electric Vehicles (EV) – the Revised Consolidated Guidelines & Standards were issued by the Ministry of Power in January and amended in November 2022. Moreover, in September 2021, a production-linked incentive scheme for the automotive sector was approved by Cabinet to boost the manufacturing of electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. India reported 277,910 electric two-wheeler sales in the April-September 2022 period, a 404 percent increase over the same period last year, which saw 55,147 units sold. In H1 FY 2022-23, 18,142 electric cars were sold, registering a 268 percent growth.

The global automotive industry is undergoing a paradigm shift in trying to switch to alternative/less energy-intensive options. India, too, is investing in this electric mobility shift

The burden of oil imports, rising pollution, the Russia-Ukraine war escalating price inflation, and international commitments to combat global climate change are key factors motivating India’s policies to speed up the transition to e-mobility on the one hand and growing consumer appetite on the other..

Electric Vehicle Industry in India Growth Targets

The Indian automotive market is slated to be the third largest by 2030 in terms of volume. Catering to a vast domestic market, dependence on the conventional modes of fuel-intensive mobility will not be sustainable. To address this, federal policymakers are

developing a mobility option that is “Shared, Connected, and Electric” and have projected an ambitious target of achieving 100 percent electrification by 2030.

India benefits on many fronts by shifting towards electric vehicles (EVs): it has abundant renewable energy resources and an available skilled workforce in technology and manufacturing.

According to an independent study by CEEW Centre for Energy Finance (CEEW-CEF), the EV market in India will be a USD 206 billion opportunities by 2030 if India maintains steady progress to meet its ambitious 2030 target. This would require a cumulative investment of over USD 180 billion in vehicle production and charging infrastructure. In 2021, the Indian EV industry attracted USD 6 billion in investment and is becoming more attractive to private equity/venture capital investors.

Another report by India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) projects that the Indian EV market will grow at a CAGR of 36 percent till 2026. The EV battery market is also projected to grow at a CAGR of 30 percent during the same period. Meanwhile, India’s EV market is estimated to grow at 49 percent CAGR in the 2022-2030 period in a business as usual scenario, as per the IESA report. Overall, by 2030, the EV industry will create 10 million direct and 50 million indirect jobs (IVCA-EY-Induslaw report). India is also witnessing the rise of a sizeable EV financing market, with NitiAayog projecting it to be worth USD 50 billion by 2030.

Existing EV Ecosystem in India and Investment Outlook

India's EV space is nascent regardless of the country’s ambitious targets. However, looking at it differently – India offers the world’s

Production-Linked Incentive Schemes

In May 2021, the government rolled out a Production-Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI) for ACC Battery Storage Manufacturing, which will incentivise the domestic production of such batteries and reduce the dependence on imports. This will support the EV industry with the requisite infrastructure and will significantly cause a reduction in the cost of EVs.

On September 15, 2021, the government approved a PLI Scheme for the automobile and drone industry, which intends to incentivise high value advanced automotive technology vehicles and products, including ‘green automotive manufacturing.

The PLI Scheme for the auto sector is open to existing automotive companies and new investors currently not in the automobile or auto component manufacturing business. The scheme has two components:

i) Champion OEM Incentive Scheme: This is a ‘sales value linked’ scheme, applicable to battery electric vehicles, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles of all segments.

ii) Component Champion Incentive Scheme: This is a ‘sales value linked’ scheme, applicable to advanced automotive technology components of vehicles, completely knocked down (CKD)/ semi knocked down (SKD) kits, vehicle aggregates of 2-wheelers, 3-wheelers, passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, and tractors etc.

largest untapped market, especially in the two-wheeler segment. Under the automatic route, one hundred percent foreign direct investment is allowed in this sector.

The federal government is also prioritising the shift towards clean mobility. Recent moves to amend the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles in India (FAME) II scheme to make electric two-wheelers more affordable is a case in point. Under phase two of the FAME scheme, as on July 11, 2022, about 469,315 electric vehicles were supported through demand incentives amounting to about INR 18.69 billion. Approvals have been granted to 6,315 electrical buses and 2,877 EV charging stations sanctioned in 68 cities across 25 states/Union Territories. Fifty original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), start-ups and established manufacturers, have registered and revalidated their 106 EV models. There are 1,576 charging stations sanctioned for set-up across nine expressways and 16 highways.

In addition, multiple production-linked incentive schemes intend to create a local manufacturing ecosystem to support goals around greater adoption of electric mobility transport. This is achieved by incentivising fresh investments into developing indigenous supply chains for key technologies, products, and auto components.

Emerging Market Players

Many leading battery producers like Amara Raja Batteries, have picked up the cue from these incentives to orient new investments into green technologies, including lithium-

ion batteries. In April 2022, one of the world’s most energy-dense batteries at 54MWh, developed by a Bengaluru-based battery startup – Pravaig, was acquired by a European renewable energy company, ErenGroupe, for its storage applications.

A high density implies that the battery gives more power per atom, which is cost-effective compared to alternatives such as sodium-ion or aluminium air. The developers of the battery have also informed that it takes just 30 minutes to charge a battery fully. This new acquisition by a European company will boost domestic manufacturing and pave the way for making EVs more economical, considering batteries usually account for 35-40 percent of the total cost.

Further responding to the opportunity that India’s EV industry presents, many leading industry players like OLA Electric Mobility Pvt, Ather Energy, and Mahindra Electrics are rapidly growing their market presence. Moreover, certain states like Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are rolling out innovative and timely investor-friendly policies besides building the necessary infrastructure.

Recently, the American electric vehicle and clean energy company Tesla Inc. marked its entry into India by incorporating its subsidiary, Tesla India Motors and Energy Pvt Ltd, in Bengaluru.

In February 2021, Ather Energy, India’s first intelligence EV manufacturer moved its USD 86.5 million factory from Bengaluru (Karnataka) to Hosur (Tamil Nadu). Ather

Energy’s factory is said to have an annual production capacity of 0.11 million twowheelers.

In March 2021, Ola Electric, the subsidiary of the unicorn Indian ride-hailing start-up, also announced that it would be setting up the world’s largest electric scooter plant in Hosur (which is a two and a half-hour drive from Bengaluru) over the next 12 weeks, at the cost of UDD 330 million, and aiming to produce 2 million units a year. By 2022, Ola Electric wants to scale up production to pump out 10 million vehicles annually or 15 percent of the world’s e-scooters.

Meanwhile, indicative of the market interest for electric two-wheelers in India, Ola Electric reportedly clocked INR 11 billion (USD 149.26 million) in sales over a two-day purchase window. Ola Electric’s website allows scooters to be reserved. The electric scooters are manufactured at the Ola Futurefactory near Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu.

On September 9, 2021, Greaves Cotton announced its entry into the multi-brand electric vehicle retail segment under the brand name AutoEVMart. According to reports, this platform will present consumers with a wide range of electric vehicles to choose from – from Ampere Electric to other brands in the EV space. Thus, AutoEVMart will serve as a marketplace for electric vehicles in India, offering e-two-wheelers and e-three-wheelers, among others, along with EV accessories.

Greaves Cotton envisions first-of-its-kind multi-brand retail stores for clean tech or

electric mobility in Bengaluru. Recently, Sterling and Wilson Pvt Ltd (SWPL), India’s leading engineering, procurement, and construction company, announced its entry into the electric mobility segment in India. It has signed a 50-50 joint venture with Enel X, to be incorporated on April 1, 2021, to launch and create innovative charging infrastructure in India.

There have also been positive developments in the expansion of charging infrastructure across the country – states like Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Telangana are setting impressive targets for deploying public charging infrastructure to increase the uptake of electric vehicles in the country.

The key reasons these states are doing better than others are local fiscal sops, better logistics, an investor-friendly

India rolled out the website e-AMRIT – https://www.e-amrit. niti.gov.in/ – at the COP26 Summit in Glasgow, which will function as a one-stop destination for all information on electric vehicles. government policy, business facilitation through easier access to authorities, supply chain connectivity, and the availability of suitable land.

Karnataka was the first state to introduce a comprehensive EV policy and has emerged as a hotspot for EV businesses in India, both in EV and EV ancillary manufacturing as well as R&D segments.

Tamil Nadu is also leaping forward at a commendable pace, owing to its supply ecosystem, larger land parcel, proximity

to ports, and proactive investor support through administrative portals like Guidance Tamil Nadu.

Nevertheless, while growth in the EV industry is on an upward tick, it has much ground to cover to realise the government’s ambitious 2030 target. The COVID-19 pandemic not only slowed the industry’s progress, but also dampened overall market demand.

Still, market sentiment has retained positivity in some segments, accelerating in 2022 in

the aftermath of escalating oil prices amid the Russia-Ukraine war.

During the April-September 2022 period, India recorded sales of 277,910 electric two-wheelers, which was a 404 percent increase over the same period last year that saw 55,147 units sold. In H1 FY 2022-23, 18,142 electric cars were sold, registering a 268 percent growth.

In April 2019, NitiAayog, the federal think tank, published a report titled “India’s Electric Mobility Transformation”, which pegs EV sales penetration in India at 70 percent for commercial cars, 30 percent for private cars, 40 percent for buses and 80 percent for two- and threewheelers by 2030. These targets, if achieved, could lead to a net reduction of 14 percent of energy and 846 million tons of CO2 emissions over the deployed vehicles’ lifetime. Electric

vehicles sold until 2030 can save 474 million tons of oil equivalent over their lifetime, worth USD207.33 billion.

This will help India fulfil its global commitments to lower carbon emissions and increase the use of cleaner sources of energy and transportation as required by the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and EV30@30.

Federal Policy

Several fiscal and non-fiscal measures have been put in place to facilitate the adoption of electric mobility. They are as follows:

National Electric Mobility Mission Plan 2020 (NEMMP): It was launched in 2014 by the Department of Heavy Industry (DHI) as a roadmap for the faster manufacture and adoption of EVs in India.

FAME Phase I: As part of the NEMMP 2020, the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles in India (FAME India) Scheme was notified in April 2015 to promote the manufacture of electric and hybrid vehicle technology. It has mainly focused on four aspects – demand creation, technology platform, pilot projects, and charging infrastructure. For demand creation, incentives have mainly been disbursed through reduced purchase prices.

FAME Phase II: Launched in 2019 for three years, this scheme has an outlay of USD 1.36 billion to be used for upfront incentives on the purchase of EVs and supporting the development of charging infrastructure. FICCI has asked for the continuation of FAME II till 2025, along with short-term booster incentives to enhance demand. This second phase focuses on supporting the electrification

of public and shared transportation and aims to support, through subsidies, about 7,000 e-buses, 5,00,000 e-three wheelers, 55,000 e-four wheeler passenger cars and one million e-two wheelers. In addition, the creation of charging infrastructure is also supported.

Amendments to FAME Phase II: On June 11, 2021, the Ministry of Heavy Industry announced further amendments to the FAME II scheme to boost EV demand among consumers. The scheme was extended by two years, to March 31, 2024. Under the revised policy, the subsidy per electric twowheeler (Indian-made), which is linked to the battery size, has been increased to INR 15,000 (USD 204.60) per Kilowatt-hour (KWh) from INR 10,000 (USD 136.40) KWh. Furthermore, electric two-wheeler manufacturers can now give discounts of up to 40 percent to consumers, which is a significant raise from the previous cap of 20 percent. The eligibility criteria for these electric two-wheelers to qualify for a subsidy under the FAME II scheme include a minimum range of 80 km on a single charge and a minimum top speed of 40 km per hour. Nine cities with a population of over four million will receive support for electric buses – Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Surat, and Pune.

Ministry of Road Transport and Highways:

It has announced that both commercials as well as private battery-operated vehicles will be issued green license plates. It has also notified that all battery operated, ethanol-powered, and methanol-powered transport vehicles will be exempted from the commercial permit requirement.

Department of Science and Technology: It has launched a grand challenge for developing the Indian Standards for Electric Vehicles Charging Infrastructure.

NitiAayog: The National Mission on Transformative Mobility and Battery Storage has been approved by the cabinet, and the CEO of NitiAayog will chair the inter-ministerial steering committee of the Mission. The Mission aims to create a Phased Manufacturing Program (PMP) for five years till 2024, to support setting up large-scale, export-competitive integrated batteries and cell-manufacturing giga plants in India, as well as localising production across the entire electric vehicle value chain. On April 20, 2022, the think tank released a draft battery swapping policy and invited comments from relevant stakeholders by June 5, 2022. The draft policy, which will be valid till March 31, 2025 from the date of its notification, is specifically designed for battery swapping systems to be used for two-wheelers and three-wheelers.

Ministry of Power

It has clarified that charging EVs is a service, so operating EV charging stations will not require a license. It has also issued a charging infrastructure policy to enable faster EV adoption. The revised consolidated Guidelines & Standards for Charging Infrastructure for Electric Vehicles was promulgated on January 14, 2022. Exhaustive in scope, these guidelines include provisions for a) individual owners of EVs and b) for public

In November 2022, the Power Ministry amended the consolidated guidelines:

– Public charging stations shall have the feature of the prepaid collection of service charges with the time of the day rates and discount for solar hours.

– A Committee under the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) to recommend to the State Government the ceiling limit of service charges to be levied. This Committee shall also recommend a “time of the day rate” for service charges and the discount to be given for charging during solar hours.

States/union territories policy

Over 27 states and UTs have formulated strategy plans for transforming mobility to provide their citizens with safe, inclusive, economic, and clean transport options. While some states like Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have had a head start due to preplanned public policies, targeted investor incentives, as well as support infrastructure, other states too have drafted policies to stimulate market demand and create infrastructure.

In September 2021, Assam announced its Electric Vehicle Policy, 2021 and plans to phase out fuel-based vehicles by 2030. As a first step, the Assam government shall convert all government vehicles and its public bus fleet to EV alternatives. The state also aims to deploy 200,000 electric vehicles in the next five years. Assam’s Industries, Commerce and Public Enterprises Department said the new EV Policy incentivizes people to switch to EVs. Assam also offers several incentives for EV manufacturing in the state (under the North East Industrial Development Scheme, 2017 and the Industrial and Investment Policy of Assam, 2019).

Most recently in June 2022, Haryana also joined other states in approving its EV policy. The policy provides a holistic framework to develop Haryana into an EV manufacturing hub and at the same time developing an enabling ecosystem to augment its adoption – through development of charging infrastructure, skill development and R&D in EV technology. In fact, the Haryana state government has declared the year 2022 as “Year of Electric Vehicles”.

Challenges Faced by EV Industry

Insufficient charging infrastructure: In 2019, there were only 650 charging stations in India as against over 0.3 million in China. Lack of sufficient charging infrastructure is one of the primary reasons why customers often refrain from purchasing EVs.

High costs: Along with the range anxiety (km/charge), another major concern among the potential customers is the current high price of EVs. As compared to lower-end (internal combustion engine) ICE cars, electric cars in the same segment tend to be more expensive. This is mainly because of the higher cost of technology used in the EVs, which constitutes a substantial portion of the cost, not leaving much scope for other features usually available in premium cars. It is expected that in future, with increased R&D and market competitiveness, the price factor will be rationalized to suit the price sensitivity, which in India is a primary factor influencing purchase, especially in the lower-end car segment.

With the recent announcement of subsidies, the price rationalization of EVs in the twowheeler segment is on cards. Since the government’s fast-changing priorities are now biased towards sustainable, clean electric mobility, industry watchers expect a similar push towards easing adoption of other electric vehicles like cars and buses soon.

Limited options: Since it is still a budding industry in India, customers have a very limited range of products to choose from. Increased investment in the sector will make it more competitive in due time and this will help create further demand.

Lower mileage: Since the industry is young, there is immense scope for R&D. As of today, EVs in India are not cost competitive to an average customer as internal combustion

engine (ICE) vehicles prove to be more cost effective.

Higher dependency on imports: Dependence on imports of battery as well as other components is also one of the factors adding to the cost of EVs in India.

Grid challenges: Another concern is regarding the price of charging EVs at private charging stations once EVs become mainstream. According to Brookings India, projections for 2030 show that even with a fair penetration of EVs, the increase in demand for electricity is likely to be about 100 TWh (tera watt-hours) or about four percent of the total power generation capacity. So, increasing methods of power generation are necessary to meet that growth in demand.

Conclusion

Ultimately, the scope of India’s EV market growth rests on availability of capital for original equipment manufacturers, battery manufacturers, and charge point operators as well as improvements to infrastructure and diversified options for consumers.

Realizing India’s EV ambition will also require an estimated annual battery capacity of 158 GWh by FY 2030, which provides huge investment opportunities for investors. Enabling policy support measures are a critical need at this juncture.

The government appears to be aware of this. It has been rolling out incentives to boost market demand in priority segments like electric two-wheelers, and localizing production of key components like ACC battery storage as well as electric vehicles and auto components through respective PLI schemes. Besides, several Indian states have now passed EV policies intending to attract industry investments and make EV adoption more viable proposition for the consumer market.

His hard work, risk taking ability had transformed his small start-up into a well renowned company which has expanded manifolds under his strategic guidance and vision. Quality construction and timely delivery have always been his prime motto.

Recently Sanfran Group has been awarded the “Best Affordable Housing of the Year Award 2018 & 2022” by International Business Summit and Awards, Dubai. The vision of Mr. Mishra

and his trust in his highly competent and focused team helped him in achieving performance par excellence and he is determined to cover the extra mile to ensure that loyalty and transparency is the only key to customers’ delight.

Sanfran Group's spectacular success is in no small part due to the unblinking vision of its senior management and the dedication of its employees. Their guiding forces bring together a team of technophiles and business experts who provide the right direction to the executive team. the first decade of the 21st century when all the big real estate developers were focusing on metro cities and on building luxury segment projects, Sanfran Group observed the need for affordable houses to cater to the need of a large segment of society. After a broad survey Sanfran Group entered tier-2 and tier-3 cities for the development of affordable houses and to accomplish their goal, the group launched projects in Jhansi and Lucknow to enter the affordable housing need of a large segment of the society.

Amongst the above locations Jhansi is the most strategically located with East-West and North-South corridor crossing each other which makes this city the most preferred location for the setup of various logistics of big companies in the city. Jhansi, is a 3-tier city where other companies were not confident to invest but here it is praiseworthy to mention that the group was not only innovative but quite confident to upgrade the city. The Group has successfully developed approx. 200 acres of land and created a benchmark that is known as “New Jhansi” today. The Group faced many challenges while developing the area chosen by the top officials. The land to be developed

by the group was on the outskirts of Jhansi city with zero development. In this context, Mr. Mishra shared an interesting anecdote that when the top officials were identifying the land for the Group, they came across this locality at Kanpur Gwalior Byepass. This area was ruled by aggressive villagers and assailants and was a dumping ground for all sorts of crime. Here they found 2 headless dead bodies and they were taken aback but Mr. Mishra had made his mind to change the face of that locality and was determined to provide safety and security. He initiated and coordinated with the local administration to set up a police outpost which gave him the confidence to move ahead in this direction to achieve his vision. Later, another challenge faced by the officials where a person claimed his ownership on a piece of the group’s land in the township. The same was tactfully handled by the company officials and today the company has successfully delivered possession to approx. 1000 families in the same locality. Initially the company launched 10 acres of the residential project which was further extended to 200 acres of affordable housing project with special emphasis on greenery and various amenities which was a rare concept in this region. THE EDUCATION LEADER

ery few persons coming from a humble background and a commoner treading this planet Earth make a difference in the lives of other humans and uplift them. It is fitting to shower glowing accolades and commendations on A. Srinivasan is right at the forefront of shaping the lives of future generations in a non-descript backward area in the State of Tamilnadu in India.

In the present day fast-moving topsyturvy world, where get-rich-quick is more the norm, here is a man full of compassion, love, vision and a lion-hearted charity-minded focus on fellow human beings irrespective of caste, creed, religion, gender enlarges

and enriches their lives. The growth of a town or a place mainly depends on the characteristics such as rainfall, minerals, type of soil, water, and workforce resources bestowed on attracted by that locality. On top of the above, connectivity by road, rail, sea and air, including expandability and communications network, is paramount. With none of the above, and with just the attribute that it is located off of the Chennai–Thiruchi Highway, lies the backward town of Perambalur, a dry city in the State of Tamil Nadu, India.

It would be an understatement to record and glorify that Dhanalakhsmi Srinivasan Group etched the town of Perambalur not only on the map of

India but firmly and permanently on the world map, as well. A. Srinivasan is a much sought-after person to be the Chief Guest for any ceremony, although coming from a very humble background and not even having a formal education, having had to quit mid-way through his primary schooling.

In 15 years, the Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Group (DSG) has grown by leaps and bounds into many businesses and 17 Educational Institutions. It continues with its stupendous and phenomenal growth. Together with Educational Institutes, business interests in dairy, transport, financing companies, sugar mills, hospitals, star hotels and power generation are taking root and spreading wings in a breath-taking.

Mr. Raja Sehar Ramaswamy, on behalf of Mr. A. Srinivasan, Chairman, DS Group is receiving Lifetime Achievement Awards from Shri KC Tyagi, Secretary General Janta Dal (U) and Former MP, His Excellency Ahmed Elmetwally, CEO, private office HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Ahmed Bin Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Mr. Gajender Chauhan, Film Actor and Vice-Chancellor, Pandit Lakhmi Chand State University, Dr. Hariom Tyagi, Group Editor, Observer Dawn Media Group, Dr. Bu Abdulla, Chairman, Bu Abdulla Group and more during International Business Summit and Awards, held on 17th September 2022 at the hotel Atlantis the palm, Dubai, UAE.

Presently, about 30,000 students are reaping the benefits, out of whom nearly 25 % avail hostel facilities and 150 buses are used to compute the students, with a meager fees structure. Besides the above, not-so-wellto-do students are also provided with many other accessible facilities.

Moreover, Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Hospital at the village of Siruvaachur on the Chennai –Trichy National Highway offers free treatment along with free bus facilities for the patients of the surrounding areas. The person shaping the future of 30,000 students with honour, dignity and world-class education is neither a highly educated person from a city nor born into a well to family.

He grew up in poverty and could not find time for studies, discontinued mid-way through the primary school level. The world witnesses so many persons who could not cope in life, although born rich and go astray without scaling new heights, but to start from scratch and just on one’s own and come up in life and help others is a glowing example of human spirit, freedom, vision and self-

realisation. Two traits stand out in people who came up in life the hard way – ‘I toiled so hard to come up, why should others have it easy, let ‘I struggle too’ and ‘I struggled due to circumstances, let others not struggle, let me help me in whatever way I can’; Shri Srinivasan certainly belongs to the latter category. Before taking up any major activity, he thoroughly examines and discusses with related persons in the know-how. Even for a new business venture, he keeps it in mind. He reckons about the persons, families and environment who would benefit from the venture rather than profits.

The Concrete Ready-Mix plant for construction is an additional milestone in the continued growth saga of the Group. A world-class medical facility, a medical college, an integrated engineering college campus and star hostels are added to the landscape of Perambalur by Srinivasan’s family, including promoting Indian culture, heritage and fine arts. His successful ventures as a big joint family system question the efficacy of the modern trend of practicing the nuclear family system.

SPECIAL STORY

As was the trend in those days to seek better living and green pastures in megacities, Srinivasan too reached Chennai based on the advice of a few friends who could not make a living in the village. His friend secured a job for him at a theatre on Waltax road, Chennai. He did two jobs in a day and earned whatever he could.

By staying at a lodge nearby, he did a job and then another at Egmore (terminus of southbound trains). Putting his nose to the grindstone, with practically a few hours of rest and sleep, he did both jobs. How to increase his income was constantly on his mind and an idea struck – a provisional store, then a tea stall and a cycle shop, he started one by one. The year 1961 was a turning point in his career. One business led to another and he started his dairy farm and then won a tender for milk supply in the village of Vellaari Pattu.

Experiences gained while tending to cattle earlier came in handy. The gruelling hard work he put in for five years from 1963 to 1968 was challenging – milking the cows in the early mornings, then commuting by cycle one-way trip for about 30 Km, followed by work at the tea stall till 5 PM, then one more round of milking and delivery120 Kms of cycling alone, per day. Once the tea stall business stabilised, he started a fertiliser

shop, cattle feed etc. Srinivasan struggled a lot between 6 and 18 years of age, then started tasting success due to his hard work, honesty and integrity. Shop businesses clicked one by one and to multiply money, he started a finance business and did well.

“Behind every man’s success, there is a woman”, so goes the adage; in Srinivasan’s life, too, the lucky lady came in the form of his wife, Dhanalakshmi, in the year 1967. She hailed from a nearby town, Thuraimangalam and shared her husband’s burden in business after marriage. Giving necessary advice and exercising appropriate controls, she instilled in him wise business decisions. Testing times come in every aspect of life; course correction should be exercised at the right time and appropriately.

Shri. Srinivasan had to undergo similar circumstances during the emergency period; he had to give up the financing business but opted for the Chit Fund business instead. He invested in all possible joint holding businesses in Perambalur, along with others. He invested in transportation, movement of goods, liquor bar, hotel and lodging and expanded his businesses. He started a Matriculation School in 1994 and on the first day, students in that backward area enrolled numbered 320. Growing by leaps and bound, today,

DSG runs 17 Educational Institutions. In the intervening years, he secured a license to deal in chemicals for blasting. He believed that he could run any business. He did not believe in luck or bad luck. His inputs were hard work, effort, struggle and self-belief. He was not of the herd mentality of ‘make your fortune when your time is right. He has always been swimming against the tide, be it flash flood, under current or Sunami. As he encountered them, he had the courage to succeed in life against all the odds. He did not give up in trying times and in the event of facing failures. He was focused, coordinated and synergised his efforts always towards success. He knows no enmity and does not consider anyone as his opponent. He assists even his competitor, that is, his style. Honesty and gratitude are his forte. He keeps up his words, expects the same of others and does not indulge in lies or wheeling and dealing.

Going beyond caste, creed, religion and petty politics, his service to all humans is commendable. He donates very freely to all noble causes. He has touched the lives of many people from Perambalur and surrounding areas who have benefitted in more ways than one from DSG. The Group successfully branches out and operates its offices at Thiruchirapalli and Chennai.

It began in a small building with few rooms and barely five students. The journey was tough and full of challenges but the passion, dedication and devotion of the founder Principal Gargi Manju made this possible.

The school has seen exponential growth under the leadership of Sudhir Tiwary and Gargi Manju. It shifted from Hinoo to Birsa Chowk and then

to Tupudana. The school is housed in two separate premises as junior and senior wings. The buildings are a blend of the Vedic Gurukul Model and modern architecture providing quality education and holistic development to more than 6000 students.

With the consistent effort of the educators, the support and cooperation of the management and the student’s hard work, they have excelled in both academics and co-curricular activities.

The school's annual function KILKARI becomes the talk of the town. Besides holding a spectacular programme, it is also graced by celebrities like R.D. Burman, Gulzaar Sahab, Prakash Jha,

When life came to a standstill and everyone was confined at home it became a challenge to educate the students. During these difficult times our Associate Director, Vedaant Tiwary conceptualised the online mode of education. It is a major fate that Tender Heart was the first school to start regular online classes. To date, we are continuing with the online and offline classes. Inspired the People to Make a Country Cricket Board

BCCI’s Net Worth is UDS 2 billion (Rs. 14680 Crores). Indians love cricket more than any other sport. In India, cricket is a religion with the highest number of followers. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is the national governing body for cricket in India. Its headquarters are in Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. The board was formed in December 1928 as a society under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act.

The WCC will inspire people to construct a cricket board in their own country. In India, it can forma name like the Indian cricket Control Board (ICCB) or, as it gets the title, which will be the governing body for cricket in India and is under the jurisdiction of the WCC. The board will be formed as a society/company registered under the country's government regulation. Glance India Cricket business

Indian Cricket has made a fortune out of the gentleman's game. So, today, let's dive deep into cricket finance and understand how the Indian Cricket Board makes money. Apart from the everyday shock we receive from our uninvited guest’s covid-19, something else will leave us mind-blown: cricket.

Cricket is the one thing that every Indian worships and idolises, irrespective of the differences. If you think otherwise, you might want to ask the millions and millions of fans to explain it better. In India, cricket is controlled by a centralised body under the ministry of youth affairs and sports, BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India).

The Indian, Australian and England cricket boards (called the big three) dominate the International Cricket Council. And these three have their monopoly in International Cricket.

Media rights

Indian fans don't mind ditching a night out to watch their favourite sport. And that

happens to be the gauntlet that the Indian Cricket Board holds. The enormous fan base, all set with their popcorn every time the men in blue turn up to bat, gives Indian Cricket Board the negotiating power. Don't believe it? Then the numbers might help.

Approximately 1.6 billion viewers saw the 2019 Indian Men's world cup. If you use your calculators, you will notice that this is more than 50 times the views any of your favourite Netflix shows would have. In 2008, Sony Networks and the World sports network worked out a deal worth 8200 crores rupees, gaining the viewership rights of the Premier League alone. Fast forward to 2021, the Indian Cricket Board sold the exclusive telecast rights of the Premier League to the sports channel for a whopping 2.55 billion dollars, striking a five-year deal (2018 – 2022).

Title sponsorship

Companies love such a big audience. And they will try everything to make use of it. Title sponsor is one place companies can increase their brand awareness by getting more screen space in logo, advertisement space, etc.

Companies fight for this place. But don't worry, we have a resounding winner. PayTM owned by One97 Communications, will be the title sponsor of the Indian team for the next four years. You might be wondering

How Does the Indian Cricket Board Make Money?
71
This will lead us to the most crucial question, how does the Indian Cricket Board make money? The Indian Cricket Board has multiple sources through

how much it costs the company. Well, the company paid about 203.28 crores to close the deal. The deal applies to all domestic and international cricketing until 2023. In other words, they will be paying around 3.8 crores for every match played by the Cricket Board. That is many numbers, for sure! Sources claim that the amount bid by PayTM was more than half the one it received earlier.

Series with other Nations

The ICC conducts several international cricketing tours. And the revenue they make from the same is enormous. Earlier, the countries had an equal distribution of revenue. But later, under the new plan, the big three, which includes the Indian Cricket Board, take a significant portion of the income. This might trigger the question, how is that even possible? All thanks to the massive viewership. Indian cricket fans make up 75% of any international cricket game's viewership, mainly when team India appears. For instance, during the 19–20 cricket series alone, the Indian Cricket Board bagged about 950 crores. No wonder Indian Cricket Board is the richest one in the cricketing society.

Kit sponsors

Earlier Nike was its kit sponsor paying the Indian Cricket Board around 12.13 million dollars annually. But soon, the brand ended the contract making the Indian Cricket Board search for possible sources. Fortunately, MPL took its spot to be India's official kit sponsor. They also joined hands with several other brands like Hyundai and Ambuja Cement as sponsors. So to the long list of numbers, add another 270 crores, which the Indian Cricket Board makes from these other sponsors.

Indian Premier League (IPL)

Add a lot of money, glamour and aggression to cricket, and you'll arrive at the moneyminting cricket entertainment that is IPL! The IPL is a recipe for many components, from tickets to media rights. The total earnings are shared among the franchise, and the Indian Cricket Board never fails to take a share. While giving a 50% to the franchises, the Indian Cricket Board keeps the rest. It does not end there. The franchises will then have to provide the Indian Cricket Board with about 20% of their total revenue at the end of the series. So, you could say, effectively, the Indian Cricket Board pockets 60% of the central pool of revenue. Everyone will want to take centre stage with more than 400 billion views (viewing minutes) in the IPL. And Star India owns the broadcast rights. Apart from this, the Title sponsors pay above 2,100 crores to claim a spot. Ads also form a significant share of the revenue derived via IPL. Anyone who wants to display their ad between the matches will pay 12.5 lakhs per second. That's huge.
