Nashville is on fire! It has always been a great place, but lately it seems like people just can’t get enough of Nashville. The energy is palpable in so many different parts of town. I think my favorite part about Nashville is its diversity. Every area of this Southern city has its own vibe and is legitimately cool, but in such different ways. Check out our map on page 5 by our new favorite artist, Jamie Calkin, for ideas on how/where to spend some time. We had a blast shooting our Fall 2018 catalog around Music City and are proud to now call it home with our store in Hillsboro Village. I hope you will enjoy following our trip to Nashville as much as we enjoyed being there, and I do hope you will feel inspired to book a trip yourself! All of the pieces on the following pages would wear well on a night out on Broadway or dining at one of the city’s many fantastic restaurants. I am particularly excited about the new colors we’ve added to our Five Pocket Stretch Pants (p. 32). I wear a pair almost daily, so now that we’re up to six colors, I almost have a pair for each day of the week. Our Five Pockets all pair well with any of our Fall button downs, but I know when it cools off I’ll be wearing them with a new Classic Fit Flannel (p. 35). Our line has grown a great deal in the last two years, and we have all of you to thank for that. You are awesome!
We also have some exciting new store news... Clemson, SC opened in July, and next up is Dallas, TX! Our first Texas store will be opening early this fall in Snider Plaza, near SMU. The Onward Reserve retail experience is something that I take a great deal of pride in, and we have some awesome people in all of our stores. Exploring Music City W I T H O N WA R D R E S E R V E There is no doubt Nashville is thriving. The music, food, and shopping scenes are unparalleled in the South right now. We knew it would be a great city to open an Onward Reserve store last year and the ideal location for a fall weekend. Since we only had a weekend, we wanted to hit the highlights and our favorite haunts in The Music City, as well as explore some new places. We checked into The Hermitage Hotel on Friday then hit the ground running. We were on Broadway Friday night, then up early to get a lane and have brunch at Pinewood Social. From there we did a whiskey tasting at Nelson’s Green Brier Distillery then checked out the new (to us) Urban Cowboy in East Nashville. We ended Saturday night with cocktails and nachos at Bastion. Sunday morning we waited in line at the Nashville institution Pancake Pantry and then wandered around Hillsboro Village before loading up and heading home. We hope our weekend in Nashville will inspire one of your own this fall. And if you visit any of our favorite places - tell them Onward Reserve sent you!

HITS ALL THE RIGHT NOTES The Hermitage was Nashville’s first ‘Million Dollar Hotel’ and has served as a landmark in downtown Nashville since 1910. The Country Music Association was formed in one of its meeting rooms, and the leader of the hotel orchestra composed a best-selling record. Shortly after, major record labels determined they needed a Nashville office as well, thus helping to cast the die in the formation of an early Music City. Be sure to grab a drink in the Oak Bar and sample from their over 130-bottle bourbon library.

Layers can be tricky, and there are weeks of unpredictable weather in the fall. It can be 50 degrees in the morning and 80 degrees in the afternoon. How to Properly Taste Whiskey by Austin Yount | Hospitality Manager at Nelson’s Green Brier Distillery HAR DWAR E: First, to properly experience whiskey, you need an official whiskey drinking glass. This specific type of snifter is known as a Glencairn glass. It was designed by Scotch Whiskey Masters in 2001, and adopted as the official glass for drinking whiskey of all kinds in 2003. It has a boulbous portion at the bottom to concentrate the aromatics of the spirit, and when swirled beautifully illustrates the “legs” running down the side of the glass. SWIR L : Give your whiskey a good swirl from the wrist, holding the Glencairn by the base of the glass. This circulates the vapors and aromas, sending them spiraling gently towards the tapered top to give you an easy nosing of the spirit. SNIF F : Hold the glass about an inch from your nose, keep your mouth open, and take a couple gentle sniffs. You’ll find by keeping your mouth open, the aromatics of the spirit are pulled across your taste buds and out the front of your mouth, rather than down into your lungs. Because all your olfactory senses (smell and taste) are connected, you’ll get a sense of what this whiskey is going to taste like before you actually put it into your mouth. SIP: Take a small sip and hold the whiskey on your tongue. Swirl it around your pallet and mouth before swallowing. If you aren’t typically a whiskey drinker, this will result in your pallet flushing with saliva, trying to wash out the particulates of the whiskey from your taste buds. You’ll really start to pull out flavor around sips two and three. This is where you’ll find deep, rich notes of toffee, butterscotch, caramel, black pepper spice, smoke, vanilla and a bevy of other flavors which have been extracted from the wood during the aging of the whiskey.
