Aword from our CEO Approaching the end of 2020

As we approach the end of 2020, we have a roadmap to a COVID-normalAustralia and some state and territory borders have begun to open. While the virus is still present within our communities we must remain cautious, however, I hope that some of our newfound freedoms will allow many of you further flexibility in your artistic practice and career development.

On that note, in this edition of The Coronet, we have shared several development opportunities for emerging artists withinAustralia. Some of these opportunities have been funded byThe Ian Potter Foundation (which also funds the Cultural Trust) while other opportunities are being offered byArts organisations the Foundation has partnered with in the past.

Congratulations to all the Cultural Trust grantees who have achieved new milestones in their careers this year despite its many difficulties and restrictions. Below is a round-up of

Two of our grantees from the past year have achieved new milestones in their careers.

Marikit Santiago has won the Sir John Sulman Prize 2020 for her painting entitled The Divine. The Sulman Prize is awarded for the best subject painting, genre painting or mural project by an Australian artist.

Amala Groom was selected as a finalist for the 2020 King & Wood Mallesons Contemporary First NationsArtAward, which celebrates the outstanding contribution made toAustralian culture by Aboriginal andTorres Strait Islander artists.

Funding rounds Travel bans

Future funding rounds have been delayed until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic's continuing impact on international travel. The Ian Potter Cultural Trust team will be monitoring smartraveller.gov.au and when the situation improves we will announce new funding round dates via our website and social media.

Magabala Books First Nations Publishing Cadetship

Applications opening in early 2021

Over a two-year program, cadets will gain experience across all areas of publishing and the organisation. Under the supervision of Rachel Bin Salleh, the Cadetship program seeks to create a meaningful career pathway and leadership opportunity forAboriginal andTorres Strait Islander people within the industry At the successful completion of the program, the cadet will be offered an ongoing position as an employee of Magabala.

Emerging Producer XChange and Professional Development Program

Applications open, closing Tuesday 24 November

This flagship program will support six emerging producers, over 2021-2022, to participate in paid 10-month internships, working with two multidisciplinary arts organisations, MetroArts in Queensland andThe Mill in SouthAustralia. In 2021, there are two positions available with MetroArts, Emerging Producer and First Nation’s Emerging Producer, which will include mentorships, tailored workshops, networking opportunities and hands-on producing experience.

NAVAis offering four paid mentorship opportunities for early-career visual arts, craft and design practitioners, specifically for those with a current project in development. CulturalTrust grantee Ramesh Mario Nithiyendra will be one of the four advising arts practitioners in a mentor role.
