Largest temporary stadium for a Jamboree

President of India, Droupadi Murmu graced the inauguration of the 18th National Jamboree of the Bharat Scouts & Guides at Rohat in the Pali district of Rajasthan on January 4, 2023. Bharat Scouts & Guides is one of the largest Scouts and Guides organisations in the world, with a membership of over 6.3 million youths. Rajasthan hosted the National Jamboree of the Bharat Scouts & Guides after 66 years. A smart Jamboree village had been set up on a huge campus of 220 hectares, with all the facilities needed to accommodate thousands of participants. With a variety of events and attractions, the Jamboree village was the centre of attraction during the event.

Over 35,000 scouts and guides from across the nation took part in the seven-day mega-event, which was held from January 4 to January 10. The event provided a platform for the young participants to share their customs, food habits, handicrafts,

and religious practices with each other. During the event, the scouts adopted the universal values and ethos that will guide them throughout their life.

The record for erecting the largest temporary stadium for a jamboree was set by 32-year-old Sundar Singh Rathore of Pali, Rajasthan. The stadium and the adjoining tents were built on 220 hectares of land. The temporary stadium, measuring 1461 feet by 1048 feet in the area was built using wood, plywood, and carpet with a capacity of 35,000 spectators. The highest point of the stadium measured 22 feet. The structure created a record under the India Book of Records.

The Jamboree had a range of activities and attractions for participants. The display of the Indian Air Force Surya Kiran Aerobatics Team, with their impressive maneuvers in the skies above the Jamboree, was one of the main attractions of the event. In addition to the aerobatics display, the ground of the

event was thrilled with the demonstration of the BSF Camel Squad. These skilled riders and their trusty camels were a hit with attendees, as they showed off their skills and training.

Post Independence, the first All-Indian Jamboree was organised from December 27 to 31, 1953, in Secunderabad, Andhra Pradesh (now in Telangana). It was inaugurated by then Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, and the closing ceremony of the Jamboree was presided over by the then President of India, Dr Rajendra Prasad. The last Jamboree in Rajasthan was held in Jaipur in 1956.

Having imbibed the motto of ‘Padharo Mhare Desh’, Rajasthan and especially Marwar left no stone unturned to make this rare occasion memorable. The jamboree held at Nimbli Brahmanan

village of Rohat Panchayat in Pali district became special in many ways; however, the temporary stadium was the highlight, which brought the state a record and recognition. The Public Works Department (PWD), Public Health Engineering Department, Information and Technology Department, Jodhpur Vidyut Vitran Nigam, and Municipal Corporation of Jodhpur put in all their might to make the Jamboree village smart and hi-tech. The temporary stadium had all the facilities including accommodation, food, drinking water, and medical care for the volunteers.

FeFCon - a conference on fever

The record for the maximum number of doctors registering virtually for a national conference was set by Micro Labs Limited of Bengaluru, Karnataka. A total of 41813 doctors including 9603 Pediatricians and 31500 Physicians were registered virtually for the national conference. Registration for the 5th annual national conference titled ‘FeFCon-2022’ started on September 26, 2022, and continued till October 24, 2022. The discussions were focused on Fever and attracted registrations from all over India. The attempt created a record under the India Book of Records and the Asia Book of Records simultaneously.

Doctors across India highlight the importance of effective diagnosis, evaluation, and management of fever towards better patient outcomes at the two-day virtual conference. The theme of the event, supported by Fever Foundation, an

independent, non-commercial organisation, was ‘Fever –Look, Analyze and Manage’. The participating physicians and pediatricians deliberated on key issues related to effective fever management.

The virtual conference was inaugurated by Dr Randeep Guleria, Ex-Director of AIIMS and Former Professor and Head, Department of Pulmonary Medicine and Sleep Disorders, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. Renowned clinicians shared experiences of managing the varied facets of fever and treating fever under different health conditions among children and adults, enabling knowledge sharing and learning from the best practices. The conference, which was organized in the first week of November 2022, had 28 sessions and 58 faculty speakers.

4 India Book of Records | March 2023

Key topics discussed at the conference included, the role of Artificial Intelligence in better diagnosis and improved patient outcomes, insights into the impact of global warming on disease conditions, do’s and don’ts of antibiotic use, what a clinician needs to know about Monkeypox, management of fever, difficult cases of fever and fever management in intensive care, therapy updates on Brucellosis, Scrub Typhus, Tuberculosis, and Hemorrhagic fever, post-Covid complications in children and booster dose vaccines.

Micro Labs Limited managed to rope in a total of 41813 doctors, including 9603 Pediatricians and 31500 Physicians, virtually from all the nooks and corners of India. The doctors were communicated about the national fever conference by the representatives of the company. However, the registrations were done virtually. It was a massive exercise that brought the pharma major to the leading records books of the nation.

Dr M Maiya, Chief Patron, Fever Foundation, said, “Fever is a common manifestation of any disease, but unfortunately, it is uncommonly discussed, compared to ischaemic heart disease, diabetes, or hypertension. Fever patients are generally seen by general practitioners and family physicians and doctors feel there is a lack of scientific engagement and academic sessions, regarding the diagnosis and management of fever. Fever Foundation, as an educational trust attempts to address this by recognizing unmet patient needs and organizing this platform for doctors each year to discuss in diagnosis and management of fever.”

Mr Jayaraj Govindraju, Executive Vice President, Marketing, Micro Labs Ltd, said that at the pre-event of this conference, various awareness programs were organized for postgraduate students of Medicine and Pediatrics across India. A nationallevel scientific poster and quiz competition was also conducted. More than 1400 medical graduate students actively participated in the zonal-level quiz rounds.

The record for the maximum number of doctors registering virtually for a national conference was set by Micro Labs. A total of 41813 doctors were registered virtually for the FeFCon-2022’ conference.

Driving solo from West to East

Viral Chandrashekhar Vyas, a 45 years old auto enthusiast from Vadodara, Gujarat, works with a multinational company. He entered the glorious India Book of Records for ‘covering the maximum distance from the westernmost to the easternmost point in a car by a quadragenarian’. He started the solo drive in the Mahindra XUV300 from Guhar Moti, the westernmost point of India in Gujarat on October 31, 2022, at 6:20 pm and finished at Kibithu, the easternmost point of India in Arunachal Pradesh on November 5, 2022, at 8:23 am, covering the distance of 4037 km in 94 hours and 8 minutes.

Prior to this achievement, he did several road trips to Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab. He had planned a road trip covering all state capitals in 2019, but could not do it due to the pandemic restrictions. He planned the current trip just 15 days earlier. Viral said, “Actually, it was not a well-planned trip in terms of route selection, stoppage, stay, etc. I decided and informed the India Book of Records about my plans. I got a prompt response and was informed about collecting all the proofs on the way, including the video recordings of the trip, GPS tracking data, Toll Tax receipts, selfies at every Toll Plaza, fuel receipts, etc.”

He installed a camera in the car and downloaded various GPS tracking apps. As the trip was from an extreme western point of India (Guhar Moti), he drove from Vadodara to Guhar Moti one day before the trip. Ideally, he should have travelled 3 days before so that he got proper rest but it all happened in a hurry. Guhar Moti is the official extreme western point of India. The last sunset in India also happens at this place. He started the journey after sunset on October 31. From Guhar Moti to Radhanpur, Gujarat the ride was average as the roads were bumpy but after that, the roads were perfect till Bihar.

”I travelled from Guhar Moti to Lucknow via Radhanpur-JaipurAgra, and then proceeded on the Purvanchal Expressway. After that, problems arose as the road condition was poor till Muzaffarpur in Bihar. Then I made a mistake. Instead of opting for the highway via Guwahati Bypass, I took a road passing through the Kaziranga National Park, which was narrow and

also full of traffic. Google maps took me for a ride in Assam. In the night, I met with an accident damaging my car in Kaziranga National Park. I had to take another car from there to reach Kibithu, Arunachal Pradesh. First Sunrise of India happens there,” said Viral.

He told the India Book of Records magazine, “It was a great trip throughout and I must confess that Arunachal Pradesh is very neat and clean. People there are warm and generous. Indian Army has a good presence from Tezu to Walong and Kibithu. The memorial at Walong and the sunrise in Dong Valley are a must-see.

Another important point was digital payment. I hardly needed cash on the way as the roadside hotels and food joints happily accepted digital payment. Even in Arunachal Pradesh, where there was a network issue, I found most of them accepting digital payments. Luckily I did not face any other issue.”

A tree made of green bottles

The residents of Marina Enclave Complex, a scenic suburb of Mumbai in Jankalyan Nagar, Malad West, Maharashtra, took on the challenge of setting a record under the Asia Book of Records. They created the tallest Christmas tree using hundreds of discarded plastic bottles to spread awareness around plastic waste management. The volunteers comprising Khushboo Chowhan, Priya Bakshi Joseph, Roshan Paul, Ravindra Shanbhag, Prince Kaushik and Kappla Joseph worked with grit and conviction and finally achieved the goal defeating all odds. All the residents of the Marina Enclave Complex contributed their used plastic bottles to make the tallest Christmas tree measuring 48 feet and 8.5 inches in height. A total of 3726 recycled green bottles weighing 660 kg were used in the project. The tree was made and displayed inside the complex on December 24, 2022.

Like every year, the Marina Cultural Society (MCS) team that organises various festivities throughout the year within the Marina Enclave complex, was planning to celebrate Christmas in a unique way. They wanted to do something different from the usual. During the discussions with the Cultural team, the idea of making a Christmas tree by ourselves emerged. After brainstorming, Priya and Roshan came up with the idea of making a tree with discarded plastic bottles to highlight the message of plastic recycling. Joseph and Khushboo strongly supported the idea.

With this plan, Roshan along with Priya and Khushboo, took the responsibility to collect bottles from residents two months in advance. One such message for collecting plastic bottles caught the eye of a fellow resident Ravindra, who then approached the group to lend a helping hand. He opined that if the objective was to make people sit up and take notice of the intended message of plastic recycling, the attempt should be awe-inspiring. His persistence and convincing thoughts motivated everyone to install a record-breaking Christmas tree.

“When we researched, we found that the previous IBR record was about a 32-feet high tree. Joseph Kappla eagerly took charge and led the initiative, and we had Prince Kaushik join us

too as the 6th core member with his expertise on aesthetics. The whole team got on the execution and operation plan. Joseph took the responsibility of logistics. He became the go-to person for the core team to deliver or to arrange all raw materials necessary for the project,” said Ravindra Shanbhag.

Priya and Khushboo took the task of arranging the bottles, Prince made sure that all the 3700 bottles received were usable, clean and ready for assembly. Roshan took upon himself the charge of designing, structural integrity, engineering and the technicalities of the project. With each member of the core team doing their part, the project started on December 15. A metal structure was designed and crafted for support. Each bottle was then stringed like a garland and then assembled.

Ravindra further said, “We had to overcome the initial scepticism, difficulties in reaching out the message and seriousness in the collection of plastic bottles and allay the worries of safety of a huge structure being built in-house, permissions from various authorities etc. The team systematically addressed these issues over WhatsApp chats in various groups in the Complex and personal meetings, such that pretty soon we had the requisite support and enthusiasm built up within the complex of 1000-odd families.”

Longest network marketing training

The term multi-level marketing (MLM) refers to a strategy used by some direct sales companies to sell products and services. MLM encourages existing members to promote and sell their offerings to other individuals and bring on new recruits into the business. Distributors are paid a percentage of their recruits’ sales. New recruits become the distributor’s network or downline and are, in turn, encouraged to make sales to earn money. Many MLM schemes are legal, but there are also illegal operations that are run as pyramid schemes. This has cast some negative light on legitimate MLM businesses.

To create a positive image of the MLM industry, Dr Dipeesh Tirur of Kerala set a record for the longest duration to provide training in multi-level network marketing. He organised the training program on January 12, 2023, for 10 hours continuously, wherein people from the age group of 30 to 40 years participated and received training on various topics such as ‘How to dream professionally, How to fix your goal, Six basic rules of network marketing and How to believe in yourself? For this unique feat, his name has been entered in the Asia Book of Records.

Dr Dipeesh Tirur, BTech - Information Technology, has an Honorary Doctorate in Project Management from Bharath Virtual University. His father Arumughan was a businessman in UAE and his mother Ms Vasantha was a housewife. He has an 11-year-old daughter, Nandha V. He was a brilliant student in school getting up to 80% marks in the board exams. But, when he joined the Engineering College, his father found himself in a deep financial crisis, forcing Dipeesh to sell religious books like Ramayana, Mahabharatha, and Bhagavad Gita from door-to-door in order to earn some pocket money to sustain his higher studies.

After Engineering, he got selected for a campus interview by an IT firm - Sterling Solutions. It didn’t work well; hence he changed his profession to Network Marketing in 2009. Through his training programmes, he intends to give proper knowledge about the MLM industry in order to guide the students to success. The record-setting non-stop training programme was conducted at Hotel Continento at Tirur in the Malappuram District of Kerala. The training started at 7 am and continued till 5 pm in the evening. There was no lunch break or tea break during the programme. The programme was attended by 132 people from all 14 districts of the state. There were also a few participants from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

Dr Dipeesh Tirur told the India Book of Records magazine that he planned and prepared for 41 days prior to the event. For this, he also lost some weight, and for that he hired a personal trainer, Rashid - who himself was ‘Mr Kerala Runner up’ in 2018. He also had a vocal therapist from Ascent ENT Hospital, Perinthalamanna. He said, “I lost about 11 kg weight which helped me to stand for 10 hours continuously. The entire event was live telecasted through YouTube and Instagram.

Mass kite flying on Makar Sankranti

Makar Sankranti - one of the major festivals of India celebrated on the day the Sun enters Capricorn in the month of Pausha. In the present century, this festival often falls on the 14th day of January. On this day the Sun leaves Sagittarius and enters Capricorn. In Tamil Nadu, it is known as the Pongal festival while in Karnataka, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh it is simply called Sankranti. In some districts of Bihar, this festival is also famous by the name ‘Tila Sankrant’. Makar Sankranti festival is also called Uttarayan in some places. From January 14 onwards, the Sun moves towards the north. For this reason, this festival is also called ‘Utraayan’ – which means the Sun towards the north. Scientifically, the main reason for this is the bending of the Earth from north to south after a continuous time period of six months and this is a natural process.

Kite flying on the occasion of Makar Sankranti is a tradition in Gujarat and other parts of the country and also in Nepal. People fly kites and prepare traditional sweets like gazak for this

festival that marks the arrival of spring. People also believe that kite flying is a way of thanking the Gods, as it is considered that Gods awake from their sleep on Makar Sankranti after a period of six months. Kite flying can be witnessed across different parts of the country, but it is mostly done with great enthusiasm in Gujarat and Rajasthan. Months before Makar Sankranti, people start making kites at their homes in Gujarat. Ahmedabad has been hosting the International Kite Festival since 1989. Tourists from across India and other countries flock to Gujarat for this joyous occasion.

To make this festival memorable and to set a record, the brand Dabar Hajmola -- a 100% Ayurvedic mix of traditional Indian culinary herbs, spices, and edible salts – decided to invite a large number of children of 12-15 years age group from the underprivileged families for kite flying. A total of 584 local children assembled at the Narol ground in Narolgam, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and flew kites from 12 pm to 4 pm on

January 14, 2023, the day of Makar Sankranti. The activity, planned under the social initiative ‘Acchai Ka Chatkara’ by Hajmola, created the record for the ‘maximum number of kites flying simultaneously by underprivileged kids’ under the guidance and supervision of the India Book of Records and Asia Book of Records together.

The record-setting activity continued for four hours. It was fun to observe hundreds of colourful kites flying in the sky at a time. A management team from Dabar India kept a vigil on the activity. An official from the company said, “It is a pleasure to see the smiling faces of the kids and their enthusiasm to fly their kites higher and higher. The event is in the spirit of the brand Hajmola, which is an absolute favourite of people of all age groups and has won the hearts of millions of people across the world. The popularity of Hajmola can be gauged by the fact that almost 2.6 crore tablets are consumed daily in the country.”

Desh Ki Aawaz campaign

The record for the maximum number of farmers singing the National Anthem across India was set by Mahindra and Mahindra Farm Division, Mumbai, Maharashtra. Customers from 1000 farm divisions gathered at different Mahindra & Mahindra centers across the country and sang the National Anthem together to celebrate Republic Day, on January 26, 2023. The event was recognised by the India Book of Records (IBR) and Asia Book of Records (ABR).

Mahindra and Mahindra’s Farm Equipment Sector, part of the Mahindra Group, commemorated India’s 74th Republic Day with a digital film called ‘Desh Ki Aawaz’, recreating the National Song Vande Mataram, as a special tribute to the country’s farmers. The film had sounds and sights from India’s farming ecosystem. The film captured the sounds of Mahindra tractors in various applications through exhaust notes and engine sounds, including that of Mahindra’s tractor and farm machinery range.

The film also showcased the diversity of farming across India and captured sights that celebrate the daily life of a farmer. The company organised various customer engagement initiatives across dealerships, besides creating a record of the largest gathering of farmers singing India’s National Anthem at the same time.

Hemant Sikka, President, Farm Equipment Sector, Mahindra and Mahindra said, “Farmers are an integral part of our country’s ecosystem, who over the decades, have worked relentlessly to serve the nation. Our purpose at Mahindra is to transform farming and enrich lives and with the ‘Desh Ki Aawaz’ campaign, we have created something unique to celebrate India’s 74th Republic Day

across Mahindra’s dealerships with our farmers. ‘Desh Ki Aawaz’ is our tribute to the farmers of the nation on this special day.”

Sikka further said, “Mahindra and Mahindra is working closely with farmers across the country to understand their needs and provide them with the best possible solutions. With our internal start-up, Krishi, we are working with farmers across India. We have thousands of plots; we call technique plots, where we teach farmers how to do farming in a different mode, digitally savvy way.”

Mahindra has been India’s leading tractor brand for more than three decades. Having rolled out its first tractor in 1963, through a joint venture with International Harvester Inc., USA, Mahindra and Mahindra in March 2019 became the first Indian tractor brand to sell 3 million tractors, inclusive of sales to global customers. With a presence in over 40 countries, Mahindra has leveraged its quality, as the only tractor brand in the world, to win both the Deming Award and the Japanese Quality Medal. Having worked with generations of farmers, Mahindra tractors are known for their exceptional build and performance on rugged and unforgiving terrains. No wonder Mahindra Tractors are called ‘Tough Hardum’ – ready to take on any challenge.

Tanthri of Tapovanam

Sreedakshinamoorthy

Traditional Worship of Lord Shiva

Navagraha Kshethram, Kerala, has set a record for maximum priests worshiping for consecutive days at a single venue. A total of 121 priests together performed the Athirudra Maha Yagam for 11 consecutive days (January 9 to January 19, 2023) at a single venue. The prayer ‘Athi Rudra Maha Yagam’, is a very powerful and important form of puja used for worshiping Lord Shiva. The record has been registered in the Asia Book of Records (ABR).

Sreedakshinamoorthy is an aspect of the Hindu God Shiva as a guru (teacher) of all types of knowledge. This aspect of Shiva, as the original guru, is his personification as the supreme or the ultimate awareness, understanding, and knowledge. This form represents Shiva as a teacher of yoga, music, and wisdom, and gives an exposition on the Shastras. He is worshipped as

the God of wisdom and complete and rewarding meditation. According to Hindu scriptures, if a person doesn’t have a guru, they can consider and worship Dakshinamurthy as their guru. Eventually, they will be blessed with a self-realised human guru, if they are worthy.

Dakshinamurthy literally means ‘one who is facing South (Daksiṇa)’ in Sanskrit. According to another school of thought ‘Dakshinya’ means Karuna in Sanskrit or kindness (benevolence). So this manifestation of Shiva is a benevolent teacher who accords wisdom to seekers of salvation. In most of the Shiva temples, the stone image of Dakshinamurthy is installed, facing south, on the southern circumambulatory path around the sanctum sanctorum. Perhaps, of all Hindu Gods, he is the only one sitting facing south.

12 India Book of Records | March 2023

Navagraha Kshethram, Kerala, set a record for a maximum (121) priests doing the Shiva Puja for 11 consecutive days at a single venue.

Dakshinamurthy is regarded as the ultimate Guru, the embodiment of knowledge, and the destroyer of ignorance, as represented by the demon being crushed under the feet of the deity. The Jnana Mudra is interpreted in this way: The thumb denotes the God and the index finger denotes the man. The other three fingers stand for the three congenital impurities of

man viz. arrogance, illusion, and bad deeds of past births. When man detaches himself from these impurities, he reaches God. A total of 121 priests performed the Athirudra Maha Yagam was a rare feat. This is a very important form of worship of Lord Shiva, the very source of cosmic energy for the entire creation. His divine form encompasses and extends far beyond all known and unknown galaxies and universes. Lord Shiva is omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent and all pervading. He is the conqueror of Death and an embodiment of infinite mercy, compassion, and love. We owe our existence to the Divinity and are duty-bound to think of Him constantly and worship Him gratefully for the welfare of all humanity and creation.

technique and style specific to a guru or school. These are named according to the village of the guru. The dancers displayed sophisticated gestures of hands, eyes, and face muscles. It is important to learn that this dance form remained exclusive to Hindu temples through the 19th century. Training for Financial Freedom

There are people struggling with managing money, even when they are high-income earners. This happens because of ignorance towards financial literacy. Learning the basic concepts of expense management, taxes, savings, investments, and sustainable wealth generation is the need of the hour. To make it possible, Narsee Monjee Finance and Investment Cell (NMFIC), the financial wing of Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics, started Project Samriddhi, an initiative to teach basic financial literacy. In the process, the NMFIC created a record for ‘financial training provided to maximum people in a day’ under the India Book of Records.

Project Samriddhi was a social initiative undertaken by the Projects Department of NMFIC, Borivali East, Mumbai, Maharashtra, to spread financial literacy to the students of Mumbai about finance in an interesting manner. Youngest Motivational Speaker

In every PTM (parents-teacher meeting) the common complaint from all the teachers would be, “Yashica is very shy, she doesn’t open up easily. She doesn’t let us know if she has understood the lesson or not”. Teachers used to give tips and advice to the parents about how to help her open up. The same girl, Yashica Mahajan, now 12 years and 10 months old, has entered the India Book of Records and Asia Book of Records simultaneously for being the youngest motivational speaker and coach. Her father, Yash is a life coach bringing a difference in people’s lives and her mother Shyama, left her teaching job to support her daughter in her journey.

Her father always felt she is perfect in whatever way she is. It was during her last few days in 4th grade when Covid came. There was not much to do. The news kept pouring about how kids were facing psychological pressure without schools, friends, and plays. That was the time when public speaking was introduced to her. A mini stage

A Kid Who Loves Flashcards

Sri Vasudeva Krishnan (born on April 29, 2021) of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, has been appreciated by the India Book of Records (IBR) for identifying 200 flashcards of different farm animals, wild animals, birds, fruits, vegetables, vehicles and parts of the body at the age of 1 year and 8 months.

Sri Vasudeva developed his interest in flash cards when he was around seven months old. The flashcards were introduced by his father K Subramanian and his mother Abinaya Subramanian. Both parents are IT professionals. Initially, Vasudeva used to bring the flashcards on his own and ask his mother and dad to repeat the same set of cards again and again. Later when his parents tried by asking the names, to their surprise, he pointed them out correctly.

When Vasudeva’s parents understood his keen interest in learning new things, they started introducing various sets of flash cards like farm and wild animals, birds, vehicles, fruits, vegetables, shapes, colours, freedom fighters, country flags, etc. He was able to learn all the cards in a short span of time. Ms Abinaya told the India Book of Records magazine, “He could also point out almost all the household items and electronic appliances. He does remember the route map and shows the route directions for the places which we used to visit often.”

Idli, Dosa and Eggs are his favourite dishes, and mixture is his favourite snack. He likes to play with sand, water, balls and toy trucks. Any open place with sand below and the sky above is his

Tallest religious flag pole

Famous Jain Mandir, Gupti Dham Atishaya Shetra, dedicated to Paanch Baalyati Jain Tirthankars who attained Moksha and never married, has a huge temple complex with accommodation and restaurant facilities. Pure vegetarian food is served to the devotees before sunset. The Jain temple has recently entered the India Book of Records and Asia Book of Records simultaneously for installation of the tallest flag pole with a religious flag. The flag pole is 108 feet high with the Jain religious flag on the top.

The flag of Jainism has five colours -- white, red, yellow, green and blue. The five colours of the Jain flag represent the Paaca Paramesthi and the five vows. The swastika’s four arms symbolise the four realms in which rebirth occurs according to Jainism: humans, heavenly beings, hellish beings and non-humans. The three dots on the top represent the three

jewels mentioned in ancient texts - correct faith, correct understanding and correct conduct, believed to lead to spiritual perfection.

Gupti Dhaam, the beautiful temple with excellent architecture, is located on the GT Road, Ganaur, District Sonipat (Haryana). Built on a massive piece of land, this temple has the power to attract everyone passing through the Delhi-Ambala highway. The most fascinating fact about this temple is the attractive carvings on each and every stone used in the temple.

Upadhayay Muni Shri Gupti Sagar, a Digambar Jain monk, who currently has the rank of an Upadhyaya is the inspiration behind Gupti Dham Jain Mandir.

Born in 1957, Upadhayay Muni Shri Gupti Sagar took Ailak Diksha (1980) and Muni Diksha (1982) under Acharya

Jain icons and arts incorporate symbols such as the Swastika, Om, and the Ashtamangala. In Jainism, Om is a condensed reference to the initials ‘A-A-A-U-M’ of the five parameshthis – ‘Arihant, Ashiri, Acharya, Upajjhaya, Muni’, or the five lines of the Ṇamokara Mantra. The Ashtamangala is a set of eight auspicious symbols. In the Digambara tradition, these are chatra, dhvaja, kalasha, fly-whisk, mirror, chair, hand fan and vessel. In the Svetambar tradition, they are Swastika, Srivatsa,

Nandavarta, Vardhmanaka (food vessel), Bhadrasana (seat), Kalasha (pot), Darpan (mirror) and a pair of fish.

The symbol to represent the Jain community was chosen in 1975 as part of the commemoration of the 2,500th anniversary of Mahavira’s nirvana. The hand with a wheel on the palm symbolizes ahimsa. The wheel represents the Dharmachakra, which stands for the resolve to halt the Saṃsara (wandering) through the relentless pursuit of Ahimsa. In 1974, on the 2500th anniversary of the nirvana of Mahavira, the Jain community chose a single combined image for Jainism. It depicts the three lokas -- heaven, the human world and hell.

A Rare Fibroid Uterus Surgery

Dr Cyriac Pappachan of The Lifeline Hospital, Adoor, Kerala, set the record for the largest multiple fibroid uterus removal by laparoscopic surgery. Dr Pappachan and his team removed 40 weeks size multiple fibroid uterus, weighing a total of 4.42 kg by laparoscopy (minimally invasive or keyhole surgery) at The Lifeline Multispeciality Hospital, which took 6 hours, earning him a proud place in the prestigious Asia Book of Records.

A normal uterus weighs only 60-70 grams. A previous record so far had been for a 3.96 kg uterus removal by laparoscopy in 2009 at Sir Gangaram Hospital, New Delhi. That surgery took five hours time and was performed through six keyholes. The latest uterus surgery was done on December 29, 2022, at the Lifeline Hospital, Adoor. The patient, a resident of Pathanamthitta district, Kerala, reached with an obstruction to urinate. It was found that the patient had a large uterus the size of a ninemonth-old baby. The woman was completely healthy post surgery.

32 India Book of Records | March 2023

AR Sagar, the Adjudicator of the Asia Book of Records presented the certificate of the record along with a medal to Dr Cyriac Pappachan. The team that performed the rare surgery under the leadership of Dr Pappachan included Dr Sreelata B, Dr Mathew Kunjummen, Dr Roshini Subhash, Koothan UT, Dr Nirpin Cletus, Dr Sabeena Savath and nurses - Ms Sheena Mathew and Ms Samsi Sebastian, who assisted the doctor in the surgery. It was a landmark achievement. The surgery took six hours, including specimen retrieval through four keyhole incisions. It is worth mentioning that Uterine fibroids are frequently found incidentally during a routine pelvic exam. The problem is detected through an ultrasound – which uses sound waves to get a picture of the uterus to confirm the diagnosis and to

map and measure fibroids. There’s no single best approach to uterine fibroid treatment -- many treatment options exist. Many women with uterine fibroids experience no signs or symptoms, or only mildly annoying signs and symptoms that they can live with. If that’s the case, watchful waiting could be the best option. Fibroids are not cancerous. They rarely interfere with pregnancy. They usually grow slowly, or not at all, and tend to shrink after menopause, when levels of reproductive hormones drop.

Multispeciality Hospital, Adoor, Kerala, set the record for the largest multiple fibroid uterus removal by laparoscopic surgery. He removed a fibroid uterus, weighing 4.42 kg in six hours.

Online poetry training and recitation

Aunique poet introduction programme – ‘The Haven Rendezvous Year-long School Level Poets Introduction Festival-22’ was conducted virtually, wherein a daily programme was aired at 7 am, without any break, through an online global literary platform - The Haven International. Commencing January 1, 2022, a new poet from school was introduced every day. In this programme the students recited their own poems along with English poems of living contemporary poets for the promotion of poetry and aesthetic aptitudes across the world. A total of 407 students were thus introduced as poets till December 31, 2022. Balachandran Nair CS, an Indian Military veteran and Vice President of Haven International, was the leading force behind this activity, which created a record under the India Book of Records.

Thinking about the importance of bringing out the best from languages the students learn in school, Balachandran Nair contacted his poet friends all over the world and asked them to write simple and sweet poems for school students of Kerala (where the mother tongue is Malayalam), along with the poet’s short bio-data. He visited Government-run schools located mostly in remote areas and requested language teachers to find out the most talented students in their classes. He forwarded the short bio-data as well as poems of other poets to such students and asked them to read it in their leisure time and video record the recitation. He reiterated that the simplicity of the guide poems will certainly make the children think about writing a poem themselves. It worked. The students were permitted to write their firstever poem in the language of their choice. They authored, recited their own poems and recorded the videos. Teachers sent the recorded videos to

Balachandran, who in turn properly edited and played the video in the morning. Such a literary activity was happening for the first time.

Around 67 countries participated in this unique activity. The living guide poets were thrilled as if their poems were included in the school syllabus of Kerala and a student is reciting it from textbooks, in front of them. Quite a few esteemed poets sent gifts to the schoolchildren. Few others wrote poems about the new poets mentioning their names. A US-based poet agreed to undertake the lifelong educational expenses of a poor student named Akhila from Govt High School, Kanjiramkulam. Worldfamous magazines, such as Lead24 of Nigeria, published photos of the new poets on the cover page and published articles.

A Jury of eminent Poets and Reviewers was constituted to select one Best New Poet every month and a cash award was given. A function was held at State Central Public Library Auditorium, Thiruvananthapuram on January 21, 2023, to felicitate the new poets and to honour their proud parents and teachers. Goury Lakshmi Bayi Thampuratty of Travancore Palace inaugurated the function, while Soorya Krishnamoorthy, Director of Soorya Stage & Film Society was the chief guest. Sagar AR, Adjudicator from India Book of Records handed over the certificate of record and the medal to Balachandran Nair.

Push-ups against all odds

Where there’s a will, there’s a way. A person with strong willpower can overcome financial and physical obstructions, and the live example is Mukesh Kumar, a resident of Qutubganj, Bhagalpur (Bihar), who is 28-year-old and has achieved a proud place in the Asia Book of Records (ABR) on the strength of his determination and courage. Mukesh set a record for performing the maximum number of Hindu push-ups on January 22, 2023, by performing 4040 push-ups in 2 hours and 34 minutes. During this attempt, he performed 2501 push-ups on fists and 1539 push-ups on the strength of his palms. The record attempt started at 7.43 am and ended at 10.17 am.

Mukesh Kumar is serving as an NCC Drill Inspector in the 4th Bihar Battalion. He was 16 when his father, a daily wager, left this world. The responsibility of bringing up four children, including a daughter, fell on his mother, who herself is a daily wage laborer. There were all kinds of problems at home, but somehow Mukesh was determined to complete his studies. He did his graduation from Muslim Minority College, after giving his high school board exams at Jairam High School, Navagachhia. After this, he completed the training at NCC.

Mukesh started learning karate in 2005 and earned his Black Belt title in 2010. After that, he won the Asian Karate Championship in 2013. Uncle Basudev Modi and teacher Deepak Singh supported him a lot in all these things. Following a road accident, he suffered a serious back injury. Surgery was to be done, but there was not enough money for the medical expenses. He drastically lost weight and turned weaker. One day he decided to go on a ‘Dandvat’ pilgrimage to Baba Basukinath temple. It was summer and he was too weak, so everyone in the family opposed the idea, but he was adamant to go. Finally, the pilgrimage began. It was troublesome, yet he reached the temple on the 40th day.

Back pain started reducing after returning from Dandavat Yatra. Then he practiced push-ups. The pace was increasing; first, it was 100, then 500 push-ups. During Covid, on August 14, 2021, he attempted 1717 push-ups on Facebook Live. After 7 hours of NCC duty and two hours of physical work, he was badly tired, but the practice of push-ups continued and the day came when the dream of seeing his name in the Asia Book of Records became the reality!

The thinnest Gold coin

The record for the thinnest gold coin was set by Augmont Goldtech Private Limited of Lower Parel, Mumbai, Maharashtra. The 24 Karat hallmarked gold coin with a purity of 999 measured less than 1 mm. It is as thin as foil paper with a weight of 0.100 mg and a diameter of 2.2 cm. The coin, which is a part of the Gold Atom Collection of the company, has earned a respectable place in the prestigious India Book of Records (IBR).

Ekta Lunagariya, Head of Marketing, Augmont Goldtech Private Limited, said, “Our objective is to make gold affordable, accessible for all customers as these coins range from 0.100 mg to 1 gm. The intention here is to make people aware that investment means not only purchasing gold worth 50 Karat or 20K. They can also buy gold coins with an affordable amount of Rs 1000 to Rs 5000 as a small investment to start with less risk. These coins are suitable for traditional gifting as gold is considered to be an auspicious gift as it signifies wealth and prosperity.”

She further told the India Book of Records magazine that gold is considered a symbol of love and abundance. In fact, people see gold as embodying Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth in it. In Goddess Lakshmi’s iconography, she is either sitting on a lotus or typically carrying a lotus in one or two hands. Her lotus carries symbolic meanings of knowledge, self-realisation and liberation in the Vedic context, and represents reality, consciousness and Karma (work, deed) in the Tantra. Goddess Lakshmi is seen surrounded by elephants, which symbolise work, activity and strength, as well as water, rain and fertility for abundant prosperity. An owl signifies the patient striving to observe, see and discover knowledge, particularly when surrounded by darkness.

Some of the thinnest gold coins also display Lord Ganesha, which can be kept for Puja or Mandap during this festival of Ganesh Chaturthi. Augmont’s ‘Gold for All’ coins can be purchased online through its app or through the website. The brand is trusted across the industry by jewellers and financial institutions. It is accredited by BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards)

and NABL. It is also a member of India Good Delivery on NSE, BSE and MCX.

Meanwhile, Augmont Goldtech also launched a 24 Karat limited-edition coin dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India, in August 2022. The gold coin weighing 7.5 grams was specially minted by the Indian Government Mint (IGM) to commemorate the 75th year of India’s Independence. The side of the coin was engraved with the Statue of Unity and the other side had a logo of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. Adding large digits in seconds

SKunal Rao, a 13-year-old student of Brainish Education Private Limited, Raipur, Chhattisgarh, set a record for being the fastest to add 100-digit and 70-digit sums. He added a 100-digit to another 100-digit sum in 47 seconds and 2 milliseconds, and a 70-digit sum to another 70-digit sum in 29 seconds and 6 milliseconds only. The child’s unique performance earned him a glorious place in the prestigious Asia Book of Records (ABR).

Amit Maheshwari, Founder and Director of Brainish Education Pvt Ltd, Raipur, said that Kunal is learning the abacus system at his academy for the last 3 years. He was doing well in fast calculations and has won several state and national level abacus competitions in all these years. Considering the child’s special abilities, he thought of attempting a record. After some search on the Internet, he zeroed in on the Asia Book of Records for this purpose. He noticed that similar records were being made across the country. This encouraged him to prepare Kunal for one such record.

The practice began with smaller digits for the record-setting attempt, which went on increasing the pace. Kunal was fine with adding 50-digit sums. Then it went to 70-digit sums and finally 100-digit sums. Initially, 75% accuracy was achieved, but he was taking more time in solving the sums. Gradually, the practice increased to bring more accuracy and less time. With some success, preparations began for the final attempt on January 29, 2023. Krishna Kumar Gupta, Adjudicator from the Asia Book of Records, was there to verify the attempt. On solving the 100-digit sums in 47 seconds and 2 milliseconds; and 70-digit sums in 29 seconds and 6 milliseconds, the record was made!

The Abacus also called a counting frame, is a calculating tool that has been used since ancient times. It was used in Europe, China, and Russia, before the adoption of the HinduArabic numeral system. The exact origin of the abacus has not yet emerged. It consists of rows of movable beads, or similar objects, strung on a wire. They represent digits. One of the two numbers is set up, and the beads are manipulated to perform an operation such as addition, or even a square or cubic root.

S Kunal Rao, a 13-year-old student from Brainish Education Pvt Ltd, Raipur, set a record for being the fastest to add 100 and 70-digit sums, wherein he added one 100-digit by a 100-digit sum in 47 seconds and 2 milliseconds only.

In their earliest designs, the rows of beads could be loose on a flat surface or sliding in grooves. Later the beads were made to slide on rods and built into a frame, allowing faster manipulation.

Although calculators and computers are commonly used today instead of the Abacus, it remains in everyday use in some countries. Merchants, traders, and clerks in some parts of Eastern Europe, Russia, China, and Africa still use this method. Brainish Education, Raipur has been conducting Abacus classes for the last five years for school-going children. Amit Maheshwari says, “Abacus helps in making one fast and strong in Maths. It increases concentration, listening skills and longterm memory.”

At Adani Ports and SEZ Limited, safety is paramount for all the stakeholders including family members of employees. During the period of 2019-20 and 2020-21, the company received few LPG-related calls from the township residents. Adani Ports and SEZ has two townships namely Shantivan Colony and Samudra Township at Mundra. The felicitation ceremony for the record was organized on January 24, 2023, where the IBR Adjudicator Ms Neelima Chhajed handed over the certificate and the medal to Rakshit Shah, ED Corporate Affairs, Douglas C Smith, CEOAPSEZL & Tuna port, Shivaraman, Head - OHS & F, and Ratnadip Trivedi, Associate Manager - Fire Services. The team behind the success of this task included Viren Arya, Vishal Timbadiya, Mayur Rathore, Kripa Shankar, Vasudev Solanki, Pratik Sheladiya, Parikshit Pokar, and Pritesh Modha.

Dr Rakesh Chaturvedi, Associate General Manager, APSEZ Fire Services, said, “We decided to inspect LPG connections

in townships by our fire team to ensure residents’ safety. A comprehensive checklist for fire safety inspection of LPG connection was prepared with reference to LPG safety guidelines issued by the Government of India and other documents. Then we decided that the LPG connection should be checked on a monthly basis on the checkpoints of the checklist. We planned to visit each house in the townships and make the residents capable of filling out the checklist themselves in subsequent months. In April 2022, we inspected a total of 652 connections in both the townships (Shantivan 195 and Samudra Township 652) with 151 manhours on April 16-17, 2022. On average, it took us around 14 minutes per gas connection. Since it was a huge task by any domestic or foreign fire services, hence the record.”

Talking about the challenges, Dr Chaturvedi said, “First and biggest challenge was the vast area we had to cover in very less time. We did not want to disturb our regular fire service operation, thus we decided to conduct the drive on Saturday (half day) and Sunday (full day). Both the townships are spread in vast areas specially, Samudra Township, which houses almost 1000 families. The second challenge was the scorching sun emitting immense heat. Each building there has three floors and does not have any lift. Each team visited a minimum of 70-80 houses ascending and descending two floors of more than 10 buildings. It was a tiring experience for them, but the teams completed the task enthusiastically.”

Taking the challenge of Aqua Yoga

To create history and do something new, it is not necessary to wait for retirement or think about it only when you are free from worldly responsibilities. Master swimmer Pankaj Jain, a 54-year-old resident of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, has created an amazing record in Aqua Yoga. He has made this record while continuing his business. However, for this, he also had to work hard. He wakes up at 5 am every day so that he can practice and also reach his office on time. Sometimes the excess work would make him tired, but this tiredness never became an obstacle in the way of his passion. Pankaj became the first person to do yoga in water continuously for one and a half hours. At this age, he made this record by doing yoga in 10 feetdeep water surface.

When the desire to do something new awakened in his mind, which is otherwise busy in stock market trading, he decided to challenge this stage of age. He was fond of swimming since his childhood days when he used to practice this skill regularly. Later, the trend towards yoga also increased and then he

performed yoga activities in the swimming pool of Kanpur Club, Cantt.

Pankaj Jain performed various types of water activities including Pranayama and Yogasana in the 10 feet-deep water. He made people aware of the importance of yoga for a healthy body and mind. He performed 32 yoga poses, including the Surya Bhedi Pranayama, Anulom Vilom Pranayam, and Jal Yog Ardha Pawanmukta, in 1 hour and 30 minutes, while floating in the water, at Cawnpore Club Swimming Pool. The attempt earned him a record in the India Book of Records and Asia Book of Records simultaneously.

Prior to this, Pankaj had been in the news for swimming a long distance after tying his hands and feet in the river Ganga. The Yog Jal Krida (Aqua Yoga) event was inaugurated by Atul Kanodia, President of the Merchant Chamber of Uttar Pradesh, by offering flowers on the portrait of the Late Padma Kumar Jain. Saroj Jain, Sanjay Gupta, Subodh Bhai, Govind Pradhan, Ranjana Saffar, Prakhar Jain, and Prakash Awasthi of the Swimming Association were also present on this occasion.

Aqua yoga is a relatively young form of yoga that requires a person to perform the asanas in water. But the postures are often tweaked, according to what can be done in this medium, like any other aqua exercise. For instance, the standing poses are not altered majorly but due to the water level in the pool, seated, prone and supine poses can’t be performed as they are.

Mentoring on stock market trading

Shibili Rahman Kavumpurath of Malappuram, Kerala, had an interest in the stock market since his early teens. It culminated with him investing in shares as a novice and losing a significant amount of money. To his credit, Shibili was determined to reimburse the loss himself, and managed to successfully accomplish that goal through years of hard work. It inadvertently taught him the intricacies of the stock market in detail, allowing him to traverse its treacherous expanse much better. Armed with this knowledge, he launched a training platform Royal Assets Investments to help aspiring investors.

When he was sixteen years old, Shibili wanted to earn some money. A school-going boy, he was naive enough to think that he would be able to engage in the stock market and win big overnight. His overconfidence was soon crushed under the weight of loss he incurred over a very short period. Working from his father’s demat account, he accumulated a debt of 5 lakh rupees. He was mortified and unsure of what to do. He couldn’t possibly inform his family or friends what he had done. So, the only path out for him was to try and recuperate the loss through his own secret hard work. Learning the stock market’s movements while studying at school wasn’t an easy task by any means. But he was able to accommodate it into his routine, and through years of continuous effort, he managed to earn back what he had lost.

At an age, when pocket money was counted as the only income for the majority of us, Shibili was earning money through stock trading. As this slowly came into the public knowledge, people began flocking him for advice and guidance in dealing with the volatile and often hostile world of shares. Friends and family members were eager to learn and adapt to them, and he realised that training could also work as a viable business venture. Shibili has been appreciated by the India Book of Records recently for mentoring 500 students in stock market trading, at the age of 20 years and 2 months. Currently, he is also pursuing BBA.

A child of the digital age, Shibili was acutely aware of the importance and benefits of effective branding. He knew that his skills needed to be effectively marketed to his target

clients in order for them to be attracted to the service he was providing. So he set out doing just that. Social media was a tool he used extensively. He expressed his love for the market and made his story an anecdotal aspect of his brand. It was a narrative that not only gave an inspirational and dynamic insight into his history with the market but also became a relatable point of entry for many aspiring young investors interested in the trade. Soon after establishing Royal Assets Trading, it began generating buzz as a popular training hub for aspiring traders.

A seemingly simple manoeuvre, this focus on his brand identity meant that in the long run, he could leverage his own identity to expand his repertoire of services and activities. Through his firm, he wants to spread financial literacy. As someone who earned first-hand experience with both the drawbacks and benefits of share market trading, he is eager to share his learning with his curious and inquisitive clients.

The record for receiving the maximum number of Post Graduate degrees in Computer Science was set by NN Jose of Chennai, who received degrees in MCA, MSc–IT, MSc-Cyber Forensics & Information Security, and MTech.

Jose told the India Book of Records magazine that the field of Computer Science was booming in India during early 2000. His passion for Information Technology made him enter the field during that time. He loved programming and the impact of computers in enhancing human lives made him inclined towards it. He was fond of reading computer magazines like Channel World, PC World, and Data Quest. Along with magazines, he used to read research articles published in Scopus and IEEE. He devoted a minimum of four hours every day for studying and reading computer science-related articles. This was a part of his normal routine for the last 15 years.

He says that computer science-related careers are projected to grow faster than other areas of growth. Around 85 million jobs could go unfilled due to the shortage of skilled people by 2030, most of them in the computer science area. Every sector today involves computer technology which makes the field grow at a faster pace. To the young generation, he has a suggestion - be organised, pay attention to minute details, and enjoy problemsolving skills, then the field is yours! Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cyber Security, Bio-Informatics, Robotics, Quantum Computing, Cloud Computing, and Big Data are some of the future growth areas in computer science.

What were the challenges before him? Being from a nonComputer Science background, initially, he found Programming a little tough, but as years passed it became manageable. Complex algorithms and theoretical Computer Science were difficult to understand. The other challenge was to find enough time for reading while working in the companies.
