From The Editor's Pen Hello, His Favor Teen Readers!

It's 2019! If you are like me, you are glad to see it! So many things have happened in 2018, that totally shook not just the nation but the world! I have never heard about so many school shootings. More and more people are speaking up about sexual violence and the nations are going at it as we speak. 2018, has truly brought to light the need for mental health awareness as we heard about and maybe knew of people even in the body of Christ committing suicide or attempting. Even, with all that is going on in media, some of our personal lives took some hits. Family members did not make it to see 2019 and some people did not give gi ts during Christmas due to layo fs from their jobs. As for me, even with the excitement of getting the ďŹ rst issue of 2019 together, I had times of anger, confusion, loss and even moments I felt I was not good enough. 2018, truly showed me... ME! I have been hurt a lot in my life from di ferent experiences, but 2018, took me to a place I never thought I would go through. But, I did. Typing this letter to you is actually a type of therapy for me. As I think back over, I realized I complained a lot because I felt I did not deserve what I was being put through. However, this very moment, I can honestly say, It was for my good. I say all this to encourage every young person reading this. As you go through life, remember that God is always with you. Even in times you might feel alone, YES! He is right there. I am excited to see that so many of our youth are becoming ministers, entrepreneurs and being bold in their faith! I just pray that you continue to keep your eye on the prize which is in Christ Jesus, our Lord! Learn from those of us that are older and please do not allow your peers to steer you away from your calling. If you need help, seek it! Ask questions! Read your Bible. Worship Is More Than A Sunday Thing

write to feel that way again, so I can fully capture that emotion. When I write, I am honest- even to the point of admitting when I’m angry at God or don’t understand what He’s doing in my life. I write about my doubts, fears, pain, shame, insecurity, anxiety, depression, and real life issues like abuse, suicidal thoughts, and self-harm. I believe music can be a form a therapy and it is meant to be felt, so I write to reflect that. No matter the topic, no matter the emotion of the song, I want my music to be so relatable that my lyrics put into words what my listeners don’t know how to verbalize for themselves. Whether that feeling be love, joy, peace, anxiety, anger, fear, pain, worship, etc., I want it to be felt and verbalized through my music to let the listener know: 1) They aren’t alone, 2) It’s okay to feel whatever way they are feeling, and 3) There is more to this life than whatever we’re currently looking at (a hope and future through God and eternal life). Right now, I am touring with an artist collective called NextEra Music. Right now, I’m crazy busy with shows, traveling, and writing, and trying to keep my spiritual life and family life balanced with work. Soon, though, I would love to start working with other artists to help them know how to manage their own careers (promotion, networking, publicity, performance, etc.). There’s so much more to being an artist than people realize and I am super passionate about helping people know how to help themselves in that area. Worship is more than a Sunday thing to me. It is meant to be more than some songs we sing. To me, worship is a lifestyle, not a genre of music we sing on Sunday mornings or go to conferences to experience. Worship means choosing to put God above all else in your life and loving Him more than anything and anyone else. It is being willing to say “No” to your own selfish desires and dreams to pursue His and do all that you do to bring honor and glory to His name, not your own.

Trying to be a good Christian in high school is diicult, though I’d imagine that it would be diicult

anywhere. In high school, it’s pretty rare that the topic of serious religious conversation ever pops up. Talking to people never really gets that deep, it’s usually just talking about homework or making jokes. And I haven’t even mentioned how cynical and depressed our generation can be. All those things combined kind of makes talking about God, giving religious advice, and actually being a teaching example of a Christian quite diicult. This kind of feeling leads to this complex in me. Am I even a good Christian? Am Christian enough? Am I being the ‘salt of the Earth’ if I’m not making an efort to talk about him and mention his name everyday? And how do you properly mention his name to a generation of people who don’t want to listen? I feel like I’m sort of a burden, shoving in the name of my God in when nobody really believes in him anymore. So, more often than not, I ind myself just staying quiet. I don’t feel great about it. I realize that I’m also really hard on myself. I don’t conform. I don’t curse, don’t gossip, stray away from topics that don’t make my spirit feel right. I may not constantly shout Jesus, but I hope that my personality, the way I carry myself, and the advice I give is relective of the God I’ve been following my whole life. A lot of people have told me that my personality is like sunshine, and I can only pray that the light I exude is the glow that God gave me. I want to be better for sure. I want to be less scared of people not receiving me. But until I can get to that point of fearlessness, I’m going to continue to try and be that positivity in a pretty negative environment, and show everyone a bit of optimism in the mist of the chaotic time that is junior year.

Every since I was younger I have always been a late bloomer. It was not until my last year of high school when I really had to decide to grow up. I had come to the realization that I was about to be on my own for the next four years and my parents would not be there with me everyday.

I have always been a believer of Christ and I have always believed in God to do many things. My senior year in high school though was the irst time that I think that I had to exercise my faith on my own. I believed in God to help me to accomplish the goals I wanted and to put all of my faith in Him was all I could do. Going to college was a stressful process for me because I did not know where I wanted to go, what I wanted to major in, or even a clue what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. One thing I did know for sure was that I wanted to be a college athlete and run track. I did not have the best times or stats to be where I wanted to be and it was by a God given opportunity that I succeeded in my goal of being a college athlete. Transitioning from high school to college was an adjustment. Though I have only been in college a short while many things that I have learned have become emphasized. One of those things being, I have to be constant in my faith. Another being, my own close relationship with God is very important. As an athlete I can not always go to church and practice my faith, maybe due to practice or meets, so spending time with God on my own is a practice I have to become to value. My parents are always one call away to help me in my spiritual walk or whatever I need, but now is the time when I have to continue to grow in my faith independently so that my relationship with God becomes stronger. In college I have come across many people who are of diferent religions and who do not believe in anything at all. As a Christian in situations like these I think that irst I must lead by example so that one day when the opportunity arises I can share with them my faith.

The blog (www.campsite.bio/1412youth) was a great start and a great way to share what God was teaching me in my life, but I always felt that it was lacking a little something. This possibly was made worse due to my own insecurities about my writing skills and my general lack of passion for writing. Lately, I have been preparing to start a podcast. It will be the same concept as the blog but now I get to talk instead (which I do a lot of by the way). I’m still trying to save up to get some basic budget equipment, however, the biggest challenge is that they are really expensive here and when I order cheaper ones online, shipment either takes too long or gets too costly. I’m really looking forward to it though, it has me super excited! I already have so many shows in mind so keep an eye out on my Instagram (@amire_khulumo) for that. Secondly, even though it may not particularly be a venture, I’m also excited about pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with a minor in Evangelism at Oral Roberts University, a school that I definitely cannot afford, even after getting a scholarship. Makes no sense right? Well, it’s exciting because this year I decided to really stretch my faith, I don’t want to let my natural inabilities prevent God from showcasing His supernatural abilities. So I’m very public about my faith in that even though it may seem odd to some people. For me, that helps reduce my doubt in the fact that God can and will do it. Oh, by the way, Transformation Church is about half the reason I chose ORU. I look forward to serving at the conference on September 10th, 2019, by faith!

Lastly, I actually learned something from a sermon by Pastor Michael Todd – The Mechanics of Making It Public (part of the Release series). You see, as Christians, we tend to showcase the result of what God has done in our lives (which is great and all). However, to reach more people, we have to share the journey to the blessing too. Because we don’t, many new Christians follow God with the expectation of an instant “magic” miracle, but God doesn’t usually work that way. Later, they get disappointed and fall off. I feel it is our duty as believers to show people the journey. Even as Christians, we still go through hard seasons but we know that God is using them to groom and grow us. (see James 1:2-4). With that in mind, I want to publically share the struggles and challenges I am currently going through with the intention that WHEN (not if) I go through it, others will be able to better relate to my story and understand that they can make it through with God as well. It may take some patience and you may go through some hardships and ‘feeling down’ times, but it will happen. I guess in summary I really don’t want to pretend to be perfect, but rather showcase how God is perfecting me as a young believer. I’m not much of a social media person, but I think I’ll do all that on my Instagram and largely the podcast too when it’s out. 11

Tell us what prompted you to start your own business? Areiel: What prompted us to start our own business is experience. We have been through a lot of things that have strengthened us as young women and we are still learning but as were learning, we want to help other young women who want to speak their story and stand up for themselves and have a voice. Cassidy: We were honestly at our parents office one day during the summer and decided that we wanted to make a difference based on the experiences we were facing. Our parents had the idea to make it into a business to empower young girls because if we feel this way, then other young ladies feel similar. At times, do you find it hard to work

together? Why? or Why not? Areiel: No, not at all. In fact, I couldn’t do any of this without her. Cassidy and I have been close since we were really young and we have learned to work together. She’s a very intelligent young lady and so am I but we have too different mindsets. They fit together perfectly. So we're better together. She’s like my baby sister, I look out for her and she looks out for me, we work together very well and have been working together since we were little kids. Surprisingly we haven't had any hard moments work wise, we improvise with each others ideas. That’s why I love her as a partner. Cassidy: No, Areiel is very easy to work with. She is very helpful and we honestly barely disagree on stuff because we are so much alike. How has your business influenced other people your age to pursue their dreams? Areiel: It helps young ladies know that you don't have to start at a certain age to be successful or you don't have to have certain things to be successful. God uses young people all the time, even in the bible to make accomplish His purpose. Everyone has to start from someone but when you work hard, it will all work out in your favor. I hope that this teaches others that they can do absolutely ANYTHING if they put their minds to it and work hard. Nothing comes easy. Cassidy: Our business helps other girls our age understand that anything is possible. If you put your mind to something, YOU CAN DO IT no matter your age, race, etc.

Despite being a successful young entrepreneur, I'm an advocate against bullying. I'm o ten invited to conferences, events or schools to educate and share my story of the e fects of bullying and how a person can change the idea of being a "victim" to becoming a "victor." O tentimes, people share that they only bully others out of fear of being bullied themselves. It's my desire to change that way of thinking. In addition, I speak to youth, particularly underprivileged youth on how to become entrepreneurs. I have found that most of them have been told at some point in their life that they or their dream will never amount to anything. I want to show them that they can be anything that they chose to be and give them a guideline on how to start. My campaign has led to me being awarded the iChange Nations "Youth Add Value" award presented by U.N. Ambassador Dr. Clyde Rivers, Republic of Burundi, Africa. Also, I hold a First Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do; I'm an AAU National Champion in Sparring (TKD), two time pageant Queen and published national & international author. I'm also a high school freshman and ﬁrst year college student, majoring in Hospitality Services Management. My Unique Baking

While there are a lot of home and from scratch bakers out there, I think what makes my baking so "unique' is the fact that I utilize all natural and fresh ingredients in my desserts. You can usually ﬁnd me at a farmer's market or local farm looking for my ingredients. I remember the stories that my mom would tell me about the desserts my great great grandmother would make. How she would literally pick apples o f trees or get up in the wee hours of the morning to go get a fresh bottle of milk from the diary. So, when I started my business I wanted to pay homage to my great great grandmother and her homemade desserts by give people a taste of "Big Mama's" good old-fashioned baking. Some of my customers have told me that I'm an old soul in a young body when it comes to the taste of my desserts.

Inspirational People I Have Met

The first person I would say, is a young lady by the name of Gabrielle Jordan, owner of Jewelz of Jordan. She was the first person to inspire me to start my business. She told me to always "dream big" and never let anyone stop me for reaching my goals or dreams. To this day, she still checks on me to see how I'm doing. The second person I would say is gospel recording artist Jonathan McReynolds. When I was going through a di ficult period of being bullied because of my love for God, it was Mr. McReynolds song "Christ Representers" that helped me through that moment. When he sang "I been anointed to be the light..." I knew at that point my purpose was much bigger than people's word or actions. His music is a testament to what we all at some point have gone through, are going through, or should not go back to. When I'm invite to speak to youth, I incorporate that one line just to show that we each are unique and beautifully created. Mr. McReynolds not only inspires me through his music, but he also inspires me with his desire to live a righteous life without any shame.

Social Media and My Business

Prior to utilizing social media, I did have a very steady customer base locally. When it was brought to my attention to utilize social media, I was a little hesitant because I wasn't currently shipping orders. Once I made the decision to use social media, business increased and I was being invited to speak more at conferences, events or school functions. What I enjoy most about social media is having other young entrepreneurs reach out to me for advice on how to grow their business or if I could mentor them. Favor to me, is God's guarantee that He is always present in my life. It reminds me that the fulfilling of my purpose can only be achieved through His power. It's a covering that despite any situation that I'm going through He can and often will step in to change the result to accomplish what He has created and chosen me to do. I believe that we all have God's favor, the only real difference is are you willing to receive it. #

16 year old CEO and founder of Save the Moms. Her business empowers kids and teens to cook with her step-by-step recipe cards, so moms (and dads) can have a break! Danielle has appeared on numerous shows, such as NBC’s Food Fighters, Chopped Junior, where she took home the $10,000 prize, and Chopped Junior Champions; she has also been named one of the “Top 7 Kid Chefs” by Food Beast. Danielle has won the “California Strawberry Commission Kid’s Cook-Off”, “Best Sales Pitch” at the Montgomery County Children’s Business Fair, and was the 1st place winner and recipient of the five hundred dollar “Frances Barber Scholarship” at the “Le Chic Academy Biz Kidz Market Day and Shark Tank Event”. Her business has been featured on WMAR2 news, Good Day DC, the “Raising Entrepreneurs” Podcast, the “Rascal Radio” podcast, as well as Thrive Global Magazine. Save the Moms has been awarded “Business With the Highest Growth Potential” at the Acton Children’s Business Fair. In her free time Danielle enjoys playing Varsity Field Hockey at her high school, creating new recipes, and spending time with friends and family.

I think teenpreneurs have impacted the world in so many different ways. Teenprenuers are the future, and the inventions, innovations, and businesses that come from teen entrepreneurship are so powerful in creating a better world. I think our impact includes, inspiring other teens and kids to do what they love, creating businesses that help the community, and solving problems and creating solutions that can benefit thousands of people. I first fell in love with cooking around the age of eight years old. When I was four years old my mom was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer, and she spent a lot of time in and out of hospitals for treatment and surgeries. I did not exactly understand what cancer was at such a young age. Yet, it was around the age of eight when I began to understand just how much of a toll cancer can take on someone and those who love them. Upon understanding this, I wanted to find a way to help my parents. I knew that my mom and dad did not enjoy cooking, and I saw stepping into the kitchen as my way of helping our family after such a hard time. Once I stepped into the kitchen I fell in love with every aspect of cooking, and how creative you can be in the kitchen! Since first stepping into the kitchen, cooking has become my biggest passion, and it brings me so much joy. God truly has been so good, and I am so extremely thankful and blessed to say that my mom has been in remission for close to twelve years!

There is always some pressure and temptation to do things that lead me away from Christ. Yet, I stay focused through prayer and turning to God in every situation, because I know that with the Lord guiding me I will remain on the path that He has planned for me. Hello, His Favor Teen Magazine! I'm So looking forward to 2019! 2019 Thus Far

I found out that one of my absolute favorite things is being on the road and getting to be on tour. That is so mind-blowing to me! I love when after I am on stage, people come up to me and say that they really felt like God spoke to them or that the service touched them! It blows my mind, but it is nothing that I have done... It's All God! He is using the music to speak to people and that is the whole point of it all! Whether they dance to it or it brings them to tears, that is the goal with the music I have written and the new music that is coming out. Social Media... The Impact I think there are so many negative messages that young people are seeing and receiving right now with Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook... you name it. They feel like they have to live up to a certain standard or look a certain way in order to fit in. If they aren' t getting the amount of "likes' or "followers", they feel that they are not good enough. When people listen to my music I want them to feel like they are. Instead of looking for that validation on social media, they are looking for it in the words of Jesus; what He says about them. Jesus says that they are beautifully and fearfully and wonderfully made! It is important for them to know who their Heavenly Father is also and what HE thinks about them.

The Voice & Its Uniqueness

My goal, whether I sing in the studio or live, is that it's coming from the heart. Without sounding too "cheesy", that is the most important thing that any artist can offer to the world. Especially as a Christian artist, we have the hope that goes beyond anything in this world. I think that's what makes my voice unique. When I sing, I am actually singing for Him and to Him.

In addition, André is an instructor at the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC). Outside of his youth work, André is active in his local church, New Harvest Ministries where he serves in various roles. André is passionate about helping others reach success and is always to be hearing ear to a person in need. Professionally, André has over 10 years of professional experience in the IT field as a business analyst and change consultant. He has worked for the federal government as well as two leading professional services firms, Deloitte and Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC). He is currently at Allegis Group. André holds a bachelor’s degree from Loyola College in Maryland (now, Loyola University Maryland) and a master’s degree from Trinity University in Washington, DC.

My formal introduc on to helping young people prepare for college was in 2012. I volunteered as a mentor for the Bridge to Life (BTL) Pre-College in Bal more, Maryland. Through the program, I mentored high school seniors through the applica on process which included reviewing schools for ﬁt, reading and cri quing essays, and accompanying students on college visits. In addi on to mentoring, I was on the program’s advisory team. By being on the team, I helped to enhance the program to meet the speciﬁc needs of program par cipants.

What would you tell someone that feels that college is a "waste of time and money? I will respond to this statement like this, you have to spend money to make money. Improving yourself is never a waste of money. Parents and their children have to become smarter about how their money should be spent. In the Bible (KJV), 2 Timothy 2:15, it states “to study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” This scripture not only pertains to spiritual living, it also speaks to practical living. Without going too deep into the details, many studies have been conducted documenting the wealth gap between people with a college education and those without a college education. That said, the process of applying to college and subsequently, going to college can be expensive for families. Some families plan for their children’s education using 529 plans, other families are proactive in seeking scholarships, and there are students who work to pay for school. If a student is not ready for a four-year institution or is not ready to spend money on a four-year institution, community college is an excellent option. Also, if a student attends a high school where there is a partnership between the local community college and the school, the student should strive to participate in those partnership programs. Often through the partnership programs, students pay either nothing for their associates degree or a nominal amount - less than the typical community college student. Ultimately, earning a college education opens doors in certain career fields that are LOCKED without it. Thus, the money wisely spent will yield a return.

What does a typical session with you consist of? Currently, sessions vary based on requests. It could range from a brief general presentation about the college admission process to providing year-long mentoring for a young person and his/her family. Families need support from all places and I become an extension of the child’s village. Are there any other ventures you would like to pursue in the near future? I do have some exciting news. Currently, I am working to establish my educational consultancy brand, André Antoine Professionals. Through my services, I will continue to help young people and their families navigate the college admission process. As the brand is refined, I will be sure to contact His Favor-Teen.

1990 to James and Angela Johnson. He was Initially licensed in the Freewill Baptist Denomination at the age of 17 years old. He matriculated through the Durham Public School System until attending North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, where he received his Bachelors of Arts Degree. Pastor “Jay”, as he is affectionately known is currently a Masters student. He resides in Whitsett, NC with his beautiful wife Shontia Johnson whom he has known since 2009, and has been serving as the Children & Youth Pastor of Mount Zion Baptist Church of Greensboro Inc. He is the Founder of The James E. Johnson Legacy Project, who’s vision and hope is to see a community that isn’t measured by success in their access to money or things, yet a community of individuals from all walks of life assisting and developing each other for a better today and tomorrow! He believes that we are in the midst of the NOW Generation! He has a passion to develop young leaders and disciples of Jesus Christ, while assisting them to cultivate within themselves their own relationship with Christ. Overall, his heart for the unchurched and more specifically the de-churched as he believes that God’s Word should free us and compel us to participate in the building of God’s Kingdom on earth, and that the local church has the responsibility to share the Gospel, Love God’s People and develop disciples.

2. Tell us, when did you know that you were called to inspire the youth of this generation?

I always knew that I was different since childhood. I knew that I never truly fit into the pattern of the typical young person or teenager. I believe that my calling to lead this generation was derived from those early moments. The significance of the call to this generation sparked with me in 2012 when I was asked to assist with the same children & youth ministry that I am now shepherding, the rest is history.

3. Do you feel the local churches are doing enough to reach teens and young adults? Why or Why not?

I believe that the typical local church would like to impact and empower this generation yet, may lack the proper methods to reach them. Unfortunately, the programs and events that myself and others my age grew up with, will no longer work. There is a spiritual and practical calculated formula that each individual church must find what fits their specific group. I believe that we must begin to work collaboratively to establish effective tactics to edify them. The WORD of God will never change, but we are in charge of displaying the Gospel without compromise, yet with great reach!

FAVOR, is a special blessing from God. A particular delight is placed upon your life and avails opportunities that would have never been possible in your own actions or will. FAVOR is uniquely yours not by works, yet by the divine sovereignty of God.

Overall, I am just merely a servant of God looking to walk In His WILL daily. I am living an intentional life, seeking to operate as He sees fit. I have fun, I have issues, I am blessed and yet, I recognize my brokenness. Our Christian life is not contingent upon how “perfect” we are, yet how willing we are to die to self and LIVE in Christ. I am excited about the journey ahead of me and doing all that I can to help anyone I encounter!

4. Briefly share with us a time the power of God manifested during one of your services that even today, still has you in awe?

One Sunday morning after the devastating call that one of our youth’s parents was sick and in the hospital with cancer, we met for our typical Sunday youth worship experience. During this time, one of the daughters was in our praise team and leading us into worship through song. There was a moment before the preached word that we gathered in one accord to intercede not only for her mother but also for her and her siblings. In that moment, there was a culmination of what we had believed God to manifest. Without coaching or pushing, each young person in that room ignited in intercession for their friend. The remainder of the service became an intense cry for God in every area of their lives. It was powerful to see each of them having a natural hunger and thirst for God.

5. Are there any other ventures you would like to pursue in the near future? Great question, as it relates to long term I consider legacy significant as I become older and my wife and I prepare for our first child. My heart is with the local church. There is so much that it has to offer not only to those who attend weekly worship experiences, yet to the community. Imagine if the Body of Christ could make a fingerprint in the realms of education, health, business, politics and community involvement in the healthiest ways. My hearts intent is to become the bridge builder in this regard.

Becoming an advocate for churches that desire to see holistic growth and strategic planning towards their future, while also aiding in community agencies understanding the significant importance of partnerships with the faith community.

"I grew up in a Pentecostal church where I could work with our youth leaders to come up with worships services for our youth. I think it started there. But it really came alive in 2009 I was asked by a sister friend of mine to come and help her speak to a group of kids. When I was speaking I could feel the passion just spilling out of me. To be asked by the students, teachers, faculty, “when are you coming back” was like an eye-opener. So, when I started speaking in more schools, the community, and then church the responses from the teens/kids made me realize... WOW, I belong in this!

Do you feel the local churches are doing enough to reach teens and young adults? Why or Why not?

"FAVOR" to me is Gods way of showing us that he is very much involved in our lives. Favor is when the impossible becomes possible. Favor is to remind us of who God is in our lives.

This is a great question. To be perfectly honest, I believe that the church has done a semi-ok job. I think that when you look at the local churches there are a lot of elements to consider if a church is being productive in this area. I believe some churches are doing the best they can with what they have. I also believe that some churches don’t have the right person for the job. Sometimes the leader that we put in place over our youth ministries are people who want to be future pastors (so sometimes they miss the agenda of ministering to the youth or young adults because of their own selfish reasons). I believe we are not creative enough for this generation as well. We must find a balance of both the spiritual and practical things to be productive in the pursuit of a generation that needs us! So, to really answer your question I believe overall we are not very productive in the youth and young adult ministries. Briefly share with us a time the power of God manifested during one of your services that even today, still has you in awe?

Wow! I can recall so many! But my favorite moments of when the power of God really manifested. One time is being when we were doing Saturday teen church and the topic was on prayer. I remember we were doing this topic many of the youth had challenges with talking to God. So, we did an exercise that required the youth to write a passionate prayer that was very honest. After writing these prayers I had them stand to read them. When I say the passion, the tears, the honesty from these prayers was a clear indication that God was working in their lives. It was clear to me that we had tapped into God’s presence. I have learned that teens, kids, students can learn so much, but it is up to us where we guide their learning. "My goal is to do a motivational youth speaking tour for students in middle school to high school. I am also looking to continue working on my seminar called Bridge the Gap design for parents and teens to enhance their relationship with one another."

As a group, staying consistent on social media is important. Our branding is apart of social media. It is important that people see us doing things together. It is also important that work we do is for the King and act as one. The Local Church

When it comes to the local church, it would be nice to see more people being open to having real conversations. The deep things that go on in people's lives. We definitely would like to see more people getting involved with the youth and actually having them be more "actively" involved in the church. It is important to teach them at a young age how to serve and be apart of the body of Christ. It is also important that the elders embrace young people in whatever state they are in or whatever capacity they may serve. They need to feel that they are welcomed! In order to do so, there needs to be a shift in how young people are accepted. In turn, we need to take them seriously.

Being Independent

As independent artists, I think we have pretty much gained what we were supposed to gain already. The freedom to explore who we are as artists, collectively and individually. We're just trying to figure out how to put it forward now. We are definitely coming together in our own ways. We are writing more, reading more and learning more about ourselves; spiritually and musically.

Since I was 8 years old, my dream was to be an actress. I plan on being more involved in the media/drama field in the future to help me get more experience towards my dream. So far, I’ve been in several school plays since middle school. As for my jewelry line, my ultimate goal is to see my designs featured in department stores, such as Forever 21, H&M, Nordstrom, etc. I have so many more big dreams such as starting a clothing line, but that's a little further in my future. For now, I'll continue pressing forward to what I've been working on and build it up as much as possible. I enjoy having my Sister Assistant – Malani & my Marketing Mom promoting the business in local pop-up events, bridal shows, teen girl subscription boxes, and speaking engagements to inspire and encourage other younger entrepreneurs to follow their passion. 1. Thank you for taking the time to speak to our readers. First of all, how are you? I'm good, just staying really busy with school, club volleyball, and being a Teen Entrepreneur. While juggling school along with sports is enough work, I am then having to ﬁt my business into my schedule as well. It's all good though! I'm willing to put in the work if it means I'll be successful one day! 2. Tell us what makes your ministry "unique" First, all my jewelry is handmade so you will not be some of the designs I've made. Secondly, I use my business as a platform to help other young entrepreneurs. (including li ting up other young women by encouraging self-love and beauty). I also make bracelets for speciﬁc months to raise awareness for certain diseases. For example, I made bracelets for Breast Cancer month during October. In November, I created an Alzheimer's bracelet that was inspired because both of my grandparents have been recently diagnosed with this disease.

3. How did you get the courage to start your own business at such a young age? My mom has always encouraged me able to to start my own business. I always ﬁnd any enjoyed the beads and jewelry others like sections of specialty stores and said to myself , "I can make that!" I saw the entrepreneurship at an early age. My parents are former franchise business owners and they were featured in the Black Enterprise magazine. When I was younger, I used to be part of all their marketing campaigns. Today, you see so many people getting rich o f of the smallest things and I thought it was time for me to do something too. I don’t want to always rely on my parents for money. Is it important to stay consistent when it comes to your presence on social media? Yes, it truly is. Its highly important to stay consistent. You know what people say, out of site, out of mind. This is really true for businesses and influencers. You have to keep pushing your message and/or product daily to be successful. If you want your brand to grow and get your name out there you should be posting at least twice a day.

At this moment, how has your life changed? My life has changed in a major way. My faith has strengthened and I truly know first hand the power of our thoughts. I turned from child author to a teen CEO of my very own hair care line. Its amazing the how one idea which I know came from GOD turned into something I would have never imagined. If you have idea go for it, pray about it and claim all positivity. You will be amazed how powerful your thoughts are. I'm so glad I learned this at my age, now I feel like I can do anything. My name is Brittney Alyssa. I’m a freelance makeup artist and have been doing my own makeup since I was 16. When I was in high school I wanted to just add a little makeup to make myself look more awake. Not only that, but I barely slept because of my school work and studying for exams. Youth Advanced is a 3-day conference (March 1-3) where several hundred middle schoolers, high schoolers, parents, and leaders come together to explore, encounter and exalt Jesus Christ. This happens through worship in song, relevant messages from God's Word, powerful ministry times, meaningful conversations with one another, and honestly - a lot of laughs. Outside of our general sessions together, there are plenty of fun things to do: basketball, volleyball, football, indoor & outdoor rock climbing, ropes course, zip line, the giant three person rope swing, and a fully loaded game room stocked with a disgusting amount of snacks and soda. Be prepared for outrageous games, prizes (parents win too) and some pretty sweet giveaways.

The Youth Advance Conference is going into its 27th year, which is absolutely crazy! This conference was started by Pastor Matt Smith, who was much younger at the time. It was birthed out of a desire to see a place where middle schoolers, high schoolers and parents could come together to exalt and experience Jesus in a fresh new way. The conference began out of a student ministry: Streetlight, (this was the parent/youth ministry of Grace Community Church). Pastor Matt still leads the way every year and really helps to cast a vision for the weekend. Each year we have experienced God do incredible things among students, parents, leaders and staf. We are always blown away by the lives that are forever changed. It is diicult to pinpoint just one moment, but every year on Saturday Night we have an extended time of worship that impacts many students’ lives. It is powerful to see God soften hearts and move among students during this time. For us, we want Youth Advance to be more than just a feeling. We believe that Jesus shows up and does incredible things during these 3 days. Ultimately, we want to see students, parents and leaders to explore, encounter and exalt Jesus Christ. During Youth Advance, people will have an absolute blast! Apart from main sessions that include incredible worship, relevant messages from God's Word, hilarious skits and awesome prizes, the venue also includes a zip line, a giant 3-person swing, high ropes course, rock wall climbing, fully stocked game room, outrageous games and prizes, tons of food, community and so much more. We are also excited to have Lamp Mode Recording artist: S.O. join us again this year.
