TO THE USMA CLASS OF 2025, Congratulations on your admission to the academy! We at Herff Jones are exceedingly proud to have been chosen as the Official Jeweler for your Class of 2025 class ring and understand the pride you must surely feel as a recipient of this time-honored — and truly historic — tradition of a West Point class ring. The first ever class ring was created by a group of West Point cadets over 185 years ago, with the goal of providing an enduring symbol representing their class unity, pride and achievement in surviving the rigors of academy life. They could not have known they were the founders of a revered American tradition that eventually would encompass all five United States Service Academies. Today, your USMA Class of 2025 ring symbolizes academic excellence, service to your nation and its hard-fought ideals, as well as loyalty to the academy. This is a tangible, daily reminder of the traditions, honor and lofty standards to which you aspire as a cadet, and your mission at the Academy and beyond. You can be assured that receiving your ring during Ring Weekend will be a moment forever etched into memory. Herff Jones is excited to be a part of this great tradition and are honored to be working with your class throughout your time at West Point — and into the future, should you require any assistance regarding your ring following graduation.

Ring Styles & Options CHOOSING YOUR PREFERRED RING SIZE

Large

The Large Ring is the “original” officialsized ring of choice for most male cadets. The Medium Ring is traditionally the size most preferred by female cadets.

Be sure to view and consider the available ring style sizes carefully, as your choice of ring size will also determine many of the additional options available to you.

and intrinsic value. 18K gold is readily available for those desiring a higher gold content, as is 10K gold for those preferring a slightly harder and more economical ring.

Cadets also traditionally purchase a “Battle Ring”, designed for the rigors of daily wear, which is offered only in our durable Ultrium® stainless steel alloy.

Medium

METAL QUALITY SELECTION The United States Military Academy designates 14K yellow gold, historically the U.S. fine jeweler’s standard, as the metal quality of choice for Official USMA rings, given its natural luster, durability,

Note that in addition to traditional yellow gold, all karat gold metal options may also be ordered in white gold.

Additional $60

There are additional charges for these special gold color choices, so be sure to discuss these unique options with one of our Herff Jones specialists.

FINGER SIZING The Importance of Accurate Finger Sizing Great care should be taken in selecting the proper fit and finger size for your USMA ring. Our Herff Jones representatives are trained to help you ensure that the finger size determined for your Academy ring represents the best possible fit for years of comfortable wear. As such, we strongly recommend that you do not make a final determination of your finger size prior to consulting with our HJ staff. Specially calibrated sizing samples will be available at all order-taking sessions. Key Factors in Determining Your Ring Size Since there are many variables that impact ring finger size – weather, weight change, normal growth, or injury to fingers – we again stress the importance of confirming your ring size with a Herff Jones specialist at the time of order placement. Here are a few special factors you may not have considered:

RING STYLES & OPTIONS

• Determine the hand and finger upon which you’ll wear your USMA ring – cadets traditionally wear their West Point ring on the ring finger of either hand (between middle finger and pinky).

4

• In cold weather or early morning, your fingers are at their smallest size. After activities or in warmer months, your fingers naturally will swell larger, even if only slightly. Remember that while you will be receiving your Ring in late summer or early fall, you will be fitting your ring in a cold winter month. Take this into account! • It is normal for the fingers on your right and left hand to vary in size – sometimes even significantly, up to a half size difference. • Generally, it is better to have a ring that is a little loose rather than too snug. Therefore, when in doubt about size selection, choose the larger size between two close sizes. The ring sizer should fit snuggly over your knuckle, but should be comfortable, and not too loose, beyond the knuckle. Ask your Herff Jones representative if you are unsure about which size is a best fit for you.

RING FINISH OPTIONS We offer an array of finishes designed to meet both your aesthetic taste and budget. As a ‘baseline’ for your choices, each Official ring style is priced to include a smooth top genuine black onyx stone, one line of engraving inside the ring, and choice

of a Medium or Dark Antique finish. Herff Jones offers four (4) different finish options to further customize your ring to your ideal color and degrees of contrast.

A Dark Antique Finish will maximize contrast between the raised details of your ring and the recessed background.

Natural Finish is a brightly polished, natural gold color finish, which in time may take on a darker patina in recessed areas, offering some minimal contrast.

Included in the base price. Yellow Gold

White Gold

This option is available for an additional $45.

Medium Antique Finish offers a more subtle contrast to the ring’s polished raised details.

Our Brilliant Finish is a very bright gold finish featuring a 24K gold solution that is electrolytically bonded to the ring.

Included in the base price. Available for yellow gold only.

This option is available for an additional $50. Available for yellow gold only.

RING CONSTRUCTION Gold rings can be ordered with either an open or closed back. This refers to the construction of the ring underneath the stone, and whether the ring of your choice is cast with an oval opening behind the stone or is “closed”, i.e. solid gold behind the stone. The standard West Point ring features a closed back. If you choose a genuine transparent stone, the ring will have an open back to permit light to enliven the light-reflecting qualities of the stone. Closed Back

Smooth

Sculptured

CHOOSE A SMOOTH OR SCULPTURED PALMSIDE The standard Academy ring is made with a smooth, polished palmside. A hand-textured pattern may be added to the palmside of your ring which will serve to camouflage minor nicks and scratches that can result from normal wear over the years. This increasingly popular personalization choice is available in all metals for $55.

USMA Battle Ring Cadets traditionally purchase the Battle Ring as a significant part of their story. As an everyday wear item, it symbolizes the time you have spent, the challenges you have endured, and the perseverance it took to complete your first mission – becoming a West Point graduate. But the Battle Ring is more than just a symbol of what you have already accomplished: it is a reminder that as you deploy beyond the Hudson as a 2nd Lieutenant, you have what it takes to lead and overcome any obstacle in your path. Representing a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to you, the Battle Ring may also hold a special significance to your personal “platoon” and longest standing supporters: parents, guardians, siblings, extended family and close friends, your “first team” have supported and elevated you throughout your personal trek to reach the summit of leadership training and preparation. They have endured and sacrificed on your behalf in their own way. For them, the gift of a replica Battle Ring may serve as the ultimate gesture of gratitude and commitment to yourself and your future. You have earned not only the right to equip yourself with the Battle Ring, but to share this moment in time and tremendous honor with your loved ones with a physical relic that few ever earn. Now, you are battle-ready. The Battle Ring is made in our durable Ultrium® stainless steel alloy, as a ring designed for the rigors of daily wear and when you are not in full dress uniform. We feature three primary stone options for your Battle Ring: genuine black onyx, composite granite or plain synthetic birthstone. The following prices include one of these stone options: Large: Medium: Miniature:

Synthetic & Simulated Stones Synthetic stones are man-made stones, shaped and polished at a highly qualified lapidary, with the same molecular properties as a genuine stone. Synthetic stones generally feature a hardness factor on the Mohs scale of 7 to 8 (using this same scale, standard window glass is a 3 and a diamond is a 10). We have featured the most sought-after synthetic stone choices in this brochure, including the very popular customary birthstone choices. Options among these stones include Imperial, Diamond or Smooth tops, and Sunburst backs. To the left is a full color chart of stone options, in addition to a newly developed Herff Jones Stone Selection Board, which will help guide you, along with our expert staff, in making your stone selections. Imperial and Smooth stones are included in the price of your ring. Diamond Faceted, and any of the Sunburst stones, are an additional $62.

Rings purchased with a genuine transparent gemstone must be manufactured with the open back construction to allow for the utmost brilliance. Transparent gemstones reflect condensation that forms under the stone when set in a closed back ring, detracting from the overall appearance of the stone. MH: Mohs Hardness This evaluates the degree of hardness and scratch resistance for durability. The degrees vary from 1-10, diamond rating at a 10.

Panel Options Base Divider Options The top (or “base”) of the standard Official USMA ring features the raised lettering WEST POINT around the top of the oval, and your class year 2025 at bottom center beneath the main oval stone. Separating or “dividing” this lettering in the standard ring are raised and modeled stars. To enhance your ring, one of the most popular options is to replace these raised stars with your choice of diamonds, cubic zirconia, or a pair of genuine or synthetic faceted stones. (Due to the extremely tight tolerances in these settings, we generally do not recommend that personally-supplied stones be set as Base Dividers.)

CLUSTER SETTINGS One of the most dramatic ways in which you can customize your Academy ring is the Cluster Setting. A Cluster setting typically features a center stone, either genuine or synthetic, surrounded by intricately set smaller diamonds, rubies, sapphires, emeralds, or other custom-priced stone options. The specified size of the center and surrounding stones varies by ring style/size and stone type; we have shown the most popular options by ring size in the images to the right. Samples of some options will be on display; be sure to ask a Herff Jones representative for assistance and guidance in choosing how you want to personalize this popular option.
