REKORD 02 VIRGINIA: Cayden Daly, 22, a local Goldfields-farmer, and the mother of his son were only two months married when he was involved in a fatal car accident last week. Family and friends said goodbye to him on Saturday at the Brand Mashie golf course in Welkom. Ds. André van Zyl, formerly of the Light House Ministry in Welkom, officiated at the memorial service. Cayden and Minkie were married on September 18 this year but have been in a relationship for the past four years, from which Luca (2) was born. Michael and Jennifer Daly, Cayden's parents, say they have provided a bright future for him, and his death is going to leave a huge void in them as well. Daly's uncle, Dwayne Daly, says Cayden lived for his son. "He was determined to build a good future for Luca." The Daly family farms between Virginia and Kitty, and Cayden was on his way from Virginia to the farm on Tuesday (09 November 2021) afternoon when he had an epileptic seizure and had an accident. Cayden also

has an older sister, Kristen. Dwayne says Cayden's death is a big shock to the family, but they are well supported by friends and relatives. The Daly family, who used to live in Welkom, settled permanently on the family farm a few years ago. They run an abattoir on the farm, Daly Farms, and own a mixed farm. Cayden, who was a pupil of Welkom Gymnasium, also obtained a qualification from the farm after school and obtained a qualification to apply quality control at the abattoir. Dwayne says Cayden was someone who knew what he wanted in life, and he knew where his place in life was. "He was quiet in nature, but a popular person around whom there was always a gathering of friends." He was not someone who made enemies, Dwayne says. He was religious and carried a small Bible with him. Cayden was life for the outdoors and has enjoyed developing a great love for golf over the past year. WELKOM WOMAN DIES AFTER HER GENERATOR “The company advised the public EXPLODED to run the generators outdoors…”

WELKOM: Police have opened an inquest docket after a 41-year-old woman here from Welkom died after her generator allegedly exploded during load-shedding, provincial police said. Riana Barkley, who lived in Lakeview, apparently wanted to switch on her generator when load-shedding started, police spokesperson Capt. Stephen Thakeng said. “The generator exploded and she sustained burn wounds on her upper body, hands, feet and face,” Thakeng said Barkley was rushed to the Welkom MediClinic, where she died. The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon 10 November 2021. “The investigation continues,” he said. Kevcor, a company that sells health and safety

products, has given several tips for the safe operation of portable generators. It notes that while they can save the owner in a power outage, they can also kill if they are not used properly. It said the two most important safety rules for portable generators is to run them where they are fully ventilated and to use their electrical power only as directed. “In addition, safe refueling of a generator helps prevent a serious fire or explosion risk.” The company advised the public to run the generators outdoors. “It is not safe to run a generator indoors or even in a garage unless the garage can be completely open for ventilation including multiple doors that open to provide cross-ventilation.”

POLICE NEEDS HELP IDENTIFYING BODY OF MAN FOUND IN WELKOM WELKOM: A suspected murder victim, whose body was discovered at least six months ago here Welkom, is yet to be identified. In May 2021 around midnight, the deceased, who is also suspected to be from the neighbouring country of Lesotho, was found with a bullet wound to his head and his body was in a decomposed state. The deceased’s body is still at the Welkom Government Morgue after he was found at an open field near the substation at Alma Road in Welkom. Meanwhile, police spokesperson, Stephen Thakeng, says the police are still calling for the public to assist them to trace the

family of the deceased and suspects allegedly involved in the killing of the deceased. “The deceased had no identity documents in his possession. He was wearing a pair of black trousers and his body was wrapped with a multi-coloured blanket. "Anyone with information that can help identify the deceased or to help in tracing the suspects should please contact the investigating officer, Warrant Officer, Riaan de Lange of Welkom Detective Services at 057 391 6271 during office hours or the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111,” Thakeng adds.

Jy kan selfs gratis koerante vat om jou teen die koue te isoleer, maar as jy warm kry, moet jy ryk wees. Swembadryk. Lugreëlingryk of in die 80's pink aerolite-ryk. Dis maklik om die Here mis te kyk, jy kyk net weg. As jy Hom nie wil sien nie, kyk net weg. As jy Hom nie in jou lewe wil hê nie, draai net jou rug op Hom. As jy nie sy stem wil hoor nie, druk net jou ore toe, dis maklik. As jy Hom nie in jou lewe wil ervaar nie, sluit jy net jou hart toe, dis vreeslik eenvoudig. Of is dit? Is dit regtig moontlik om absoluut nooit in Hom vas te loop nie? Is dit regtig moontlik om net nooit enigiets raak te sien waar Hy betrokke is nie? My mening is nee, dis onmoontlik! Hy is orals, en jy sál in Hom vasloop, dag vir dag, al wil jy nie. "Julle wat glo, deel in hierdie eer, maar vir dié wat nie glo nie, geld die woorde: “Die klip wat deur die bouers afgekeur is, juis hy het die belangrikste klip in die gebou geword” en: “'n klip waaroor 'n mens struikel en 'n rots waarteen jy jou stamp.” (1Petr.2:7-8a) Dag vir dag sal jy oor Hom struikel, en jou voet teen daardie Rots stamp. Dis onmoontlik om Hom mis te kyk, maar dis wel moontlik om Hom te ignoreer. En weet jy wat? Vir die hier en nou sal daar nie eers konsekwensies wees nie. Maar ai, hoeveel mis mens nie. Om Hom raak te sien in 'n vars oggendbries, om Hom te ervaar as daar 'n sagte stem in jou oor fluister, om die skoonheid van die natuur in te drink, om Hom aan die werk te sien as daar reën op die sinkdak val, om Hom te sien as mense se goedhartigheid jou oorrompel, as jy (soos ek vanoggend) musiek hoor wat jou blymoedig maak, of selfs weemoedig. Hoe kyk jy Hom mis as jy 'n pasgebore baba in jou arms hou? Wat van die wonderwerk van liefde? Daardie gevoel wat jy kry as jy na jou lewensmaat of kinders kyk, en 'n gevoel wel in jou op wat jou laat voel of jou hart gaan bars. Die Here is so sigbaar, Hy is hoorbaar, voelbaar, tasbaar, en om Hom te ervaar is bonatuurlik, hemels en heilig. Mense wat Hom probeer ignoreer, het 'n voltydse werk om dit reg te kry. Maar tog nooi Hy elke mens op aarde uit om net vir 'n oomblik oor te gee en om Hom te ervaar. Wat is lekkerder as om terug te leun in sy arms, en net oor te gee? En dan sal daardie vrede wat alle verstand te bowe gaan, oor jou spoel. Dis nie moeilik nie, daar is nie voorwaardes nie, jy het nie kennis nodig nie en jy hoef nie op enige manier te presteer nie. Dis al waar ek nou wil wees, daar is geen beter plek nie.

Do you feel some days that your faith is under pressure? That people want to silence you, belittle you, and tell you that simple faith in Jesus is patently ridiculous? Well today, I have some good news for you. It’s true. These days everyone seems intent on shutting us down, on telling us that the idea of humbly following Jesus has no place in a secular society. And so, many a Christ-follower is doing just that. Shutting down. But let’s stop for a moment and just remember the incredible blessings that we have in Christ. Forgiveness of all our sins, reconciliation with God, a new life here on this earth, eternal life in His Presence. And … 2 Peter 1:5-8 Because you have these blessings, do all you can to add to your life these things: to your faith add goodness; to your goodness add knowledge; to your knowledge add self-control; to your self-control add patience; to your patience add devotion to God; to your devotion add kindness toward your brothers and sisters in Christ, and to this kindness add love. Ons het besluit om hierdié week sommer twee (2) van ons talentvolle hengelaars se foto’s te plaas, juis omrede ons baie foto’s van ons intekenare ontvang en dit baie gewild word! Op die eerste foto (links) is: Wimpy van Zyl. Hy het dié Swartbaars vis in die Memel distrik in die Vrystaat gevang. Wimpy is van Vrede in die Vrystaat en is ‘n intekenaar van die Phumelela Rekord. Op foto 2 (regs) is Shayne Pelser van Ficksburg, ook in die Vrystaat en is ‘n intekenaar van die Setsoto Rekord. Hy het dié baber gevang met ‘n pumpkinseed kunsaas by Meulspruitdam. Naskrif: Dit lyk of die vise nou ‘loop’ in die Vrystaat!

BOTTEL EN BÊRE JOU EIE VARS KERSIES Ontpit vars kersies wat pas ryp is en hou die vrugte so heel as moontlik. Weeg die kersies af. Maak dit bros deur dit paar uur in oplossing van 25ml kalk of koeksoda per 5 liter water te week. Kook 'n stroop van 1kg wit suiker en 550ml water vir elke kg kersies. Spoel die kersies in vars water af. Plaas dit in kokende stroop en laat dit oornag masereer.

GLANSKERSIES 2 Koppies suiker ½ Koppie water 500gr vars kersies, ontpit ½ suurlemoen 1 Koppie appelsap

Kook dit die volgende dag totat die stroop taamliik dik is en die kersies deurgekook is. Laat dit dan nog 5 dae in die stroop masereer Dreineer die kersies deeglik en laat dit afdroog. Dit is gereed vir verglansing wanneer dit nie meer klewerig voel nie. Maak genoeg stroop van 250g witsuiker en 1ml kremetart per 75ml water om kersies te bedek. Voeg die suiker en kremetart by die water en roer tot opgelos. Sit die kastrol se deksel op en verhit stadig totkookpunt. Doop die kersies 20 sekondes lank in kookwater en dompel daarna in die kokende stroop. Skep versigtig uit en laat op droograk afdroog. Na verglansing kan dit in bottels gesit word.

METODE Verhit water en suiker tot kookpunt en voeg kersies en suurlemoen by. Verminder hitte en laat prut vir omtrent 20 minute of tot stroop rooi en effens dik is. Verwyder van hitte en laat 2-3 ure of oornag staan. Dreineer die kersies, maar bêre die stroop. Haal halwe suurlemoen uit en voeg die appelsap by die stroop. Verhit stroop tot kookpunt maar oor baie lae hitte, kook dan 5 minute. Voeg kersies by die stroop, verminder hitte en laat kook stadig tot dik. As jy 'n stroop termometer het, tot 105°C. Kersies kan vir ongeveer 6 maande in die yskas gestoor word

The Mitsubishi Triton might soon receive a significant boost to its future product development R&D. Demand drives innovation and the required scaling for new features, on all vehicles. That includes bakkies. When a specific bakkie model reaches critical sales mass, product planners can start negotiating better deals on equipment and advanced technical features. The more you sell, the more revenue you have to invest in better future vehicle upgrades. In the bakkie world, America matters. A lot! Ford has illustrated how beneficial global bakkie demand can be, after returning the T6 Ranger to North America. With the flood of Ranger sales that Ford has managed to harvest in North America, everyone benefits. Ranger has become a truly global bakkie since reentering the American market, and that scale has allowed Ford to furnish it with the latest driver aids and assistance systems. Ranger has also enlivened the ‘small pick-up’ market in America, comparable to a standard bakkie in South Africa. With many more Americans now buying ‘global’ double-cabs, it has opened the opportunity for some familiar names to return to the world’s most important bakkie market. The latest among these might be Mitsubishi. The Japanese brand has experienced strong interest from its powerful North American dealer organisation, to introduce the Triton. Great things are expected from the next-generation Triton. It will be part of an alliance project between Nissan, Renault and Mitsubishi – with the latter being

responsible for most of the core engineering. If Mitsubishi is serious about targeting the American market, again, Triton customers worldwide, should benefit. American bakkie owners have significant demands around cabin comfort and load box accessories. The next-generation Triton could feature hybridisation. Mitsubishi has proved the viability of its PHEV technology with Outlander and a 2.4-litre petrol PHEV could be an exciting option for Triton owners. Even with a more robust version of the Outlander PHEV powertrain, Mitsubishi should retain its excellent SuperSelect transfer case in 4×4 versions of the future Triton, with the ability to run in the high range, with a locked

centre-differential. SuperSelect is something that has always distinguished Triton from most of its double-cab rivals. American bakkie owners are also among the most connected, anywhere. And that means Mitsubishi will have to improve its infotainment offering with the new Triton. A larger touchscreen interface, with better legibility and app connectivity, should please Triton owners in all markets. An American influence always makes for a better bakkie. And with Mitsubishi angling for a return to the American market with Triton, future developments for the Japanese double-cab, could deliver a better bakkie for all.

SOLIDARITEIT HELPENDE HAND WIE IS ONS EN WAT DOEN ONS? - DEEL 2

Solidariteit Helpende Hand is betrokke by verskeie projekte. In hierdie uitgawe deel ons graag met julle twee van ons projekte: 1 STOP HONGER – PROJEK: Elke aand is daar kleuters wat honger gaan slaap. Hulle ouers kan net eenvoudig nie bekostig om vir hulle kos te voorsien nie. Die #Stophonger-projek is daarop gemik om te sorg dat alle kleuters ŉ voedsame bord kos inkry. Daar is tans meer as 8 000 kleuters wat deel uitmaak van Solidariteit Helpende Hand se voedingskema. Die projek fokus daarop om behoeftige kleuterskole te ondersteun met koopbewyse om kos aan te koop. Om te verseker dat hierdie kleuters genoeg voedsel ontvang, moet Helpende Hand 1, 5 miljoen etes ŉ jaar voorsien. Helpende Hand en Coleske Artists het in 2018 kragte saam gespan om die #Stophonger-projek op die been te bring. Die projek wil die publiek bewus maak van die dringende behoefte onder ons land se kleuters. Bekende internasionale kunstenaars wat hulle stemme gevoeg

het by die projek is, Patrizio Buanne, die Italiaanse superster, saam met Amira Willighagen van Holland. Plaaslike kunstenaars wat die projek ondersteun is Touch of Class, Tarryn Lamb, Monique Steyn, Corlea, Dewald Wasserfall, Jay, Steve Hofmeyer, Bobby van Jaarsveld en Riana Nel. Onlangse navorsing deur Helpende Hand het die volgende statistieke getoon: 85% van die onderwysers meen die kleuters kom na ’n naweek honger by die skool aan. 24% van die kleuters kry saans nie kos nie. 35% van kleuters kom honger skool toe. 31% van die kleuters het self bekendgemaak dat hulle nie saans eet nie. Meer as 40% van hierdie kleuterskole kan nie bekostig om meer as een maaltyd te bied nie. Kleuters verloor tot 8% van hulle liggaamsmassa as hulle nie op die voedingsprogram is nie. 2 KOSBLIKKIE – PROJEK: Die hooffokus van die projek is om te verseker dat behoeftige kleuterskole ondersteuning ten opsigte van voeding ontvang. Die Kosblikkie-

projek ontvang geweldige positiewe terugvoer van die skole wat betrokke by die voedingsprogram is. Onderwysers bestempel die projek ook as “broodnodig”. Kleuters word danksy die voedingsprojek as fisiek sterker bestempel. Hulle groot- en klein motoriese vaardighede, sowel as intellektuele en emosionele ontwikkeling, baat ook by die toevoeging van ŉ voedsame maaltyd. Dit beteken dat kinders meer gehoorsaam is, hulle take makliker kan verrig en dat hulle selfvertroue verbeter. Helpende Hand ontvang ook versoeke om by kinderhuise, ouetehuise en behoeftige gesinne in te gryp en daarom is bykomende veldtogte soos #StopHonger en #HelpJag begin om die Kosblikkie-projek sterker te maak.
