It was very exciting to reopen our doors this past summer and fall, and get back to what we love: arts, events, and being together. Our spring 2022 season brings more of the diverse, quality arts programming you’ve come to expect from Harford Community College. We hope you’ll join us for our great lineup of concerts, family programming, dance and theater productions, exhibits, and community celebrations. Shortly we’ll launch a new website designed to showcase all we offer to the community and campus. Playbills will soon be available in a digital format, in addition to print, among other enhancements. We want to provide you the best possible experience before, during, and after the show. We hope you’ll share your suggestions about ways we may make your experience unforgettable. Hiplet fuses classical pointe technique with African, Latin, Hip-Hop and urban dance styles that are rooted in communities of color. Performances may incorporate the rhythms of African drums with Tchaikovsky, arabesques and beat-boxing or even Tango en pointe – all while showcasing Hiplet’s trademark sass, hip movements, and struts against popular music audiences will recognize, from Black Violin to Beyonce and Prince. February 18, 19, 25 & 26 | 8 PM February 20 & 27 | 3 PM Back at the University of Wittenberg for the fall semester, Denmark’s Prince Hamlet finds himself in the center of a debate between two of his professors, the aggressively spiritual Martin Luther and the lewdly logical John Faustus. Like Stoppard’s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, Davalos’s 21st-century comedy explores the issues of faith and skepticism with a wickedly modern sense of humor in this prequel to both Hamlet and Doctor Faustus. Nobuntu, the female a cappella quintet from Zimbabwe, has drawn international acclaim for its inventive performances that range from traditional Zimbabwean songs to Afro Jazz to Gospel. The ensemble’s concerts are performed with pure voices, augmented by minimalistic percussion, traditional instruments such as the Mbira (thumb piano) and organic, authentic dance movements. The “inhabitants” of Bubblelandia – seahorses, dragon fish, starfish, mermaids, clown fish and others will carry Mr. B along his imaginary journey in this beautiful underwater world where fantasy becomes reality and you are invited to follow him. Every twist and turn in this funhouse plot bring Claire closer to revealing her past life and everything she thought she’d forgotten. It’s one harrowing and hilarious turn after another on this roller coaster ride through the day of an amnesiac trying to decipher her fractured life. This poignant and brutal new comedy traces one woman’s attempt to regain her memory while surrounded by a curio cabinet of alarmingly bizarre characters.

BRENT CROTHERS: SEARCHING FOR A HISTORY EXHIBIT
June 17 – September 7 This exhibition will focus on the inspiration, experimentation, and sculptural processes of the recently deceased local artist and Harford Community College alumnus, Brent Crothers. CHESAPEAKE GALLERY, STUDENT CENTER
Based on Disney’s epic animated musical adventure and Edgar Rice Burrough’s Tarzan of the Apes, Tarzan features heart-pumping music by rock legend Phil Collins, and a book by Tony Awardwinning playwright David Henry Hwang. Washed up on the shores of West Africa, an infant boy is taken in and raised by gorillas who name him Tarzan. Apart from striving for acceptance from his ape father, Tarzan’s life is mostly monkey business until a human expedition treks into his tribe’s territory and he encounters creatures like himself for the first time. A TERRIBLE BEAUTY: REVOLUTION & IRISH NATIONAL IDENTITY EXHIBIT
February 17–June 30 1922 was a revolutionary year for Irish and Irish-American national identities. It was the culmination of a six-year-long guerilla war to win Irish freedom from British rule and the start of a civil war. It was also the year that Irish writer James Joyce’s controversial masterpiece, Ulysses, turned literary conventions upside down. These events were also battlegrounds over the uses of culture in shaping national identity, and whether societies should celebrate the old, embrace the new, or both. As such, they were part of similar battles being fought
worldwide at this time, and both left deep and lasting marks on Irish and Irish-American society. Cultural events to accompany this exhibit at Hays-Heighe House will include Irish teas, an Irish dance demonstration and workshop, lectures on history and literature, a living history presentation, a book discussion, musical performances, and dramatic readings by Harford students of vignettes by famed Irish playwrights. There will also be three deeper dive courses offered.
