HOPETOWN: The South African Police Service (SAPS) on Wednesday 31 March 2021 confirmed that three men accused of raping a 17-year-old teen from Hopetown were traced and apprehended. The suspects – ranging between the ages of 22 and 33 – will appear before the Hopetown Magistrate’s Court in due time and will be charged with counts of rape and abduction. Here’s what we know. Captain Olebogeng Tawana described it as a breakthrough in the case and confirmed that the “suspects had been hiding from authorities”. Captain Tawana confirmed that the three men were arrested in Hopetown on that mentioned Wednesday, “during suspect tracing operations” after they allegedly “abducted the victim” earlier this month. “The suspects forced her inside a shack in Hopetown, where they took turns to rape her”. Captain Tawana further said the Northern Cape police management condemns acts of violence against women and children and reminds the public that SAPS is committed to fighting the genderbased violence scourge in the country.

HOPETOWN: Twee steratlete van Hoërskool Hopetown is gekies om die kommende naweek (Saterdag, 10 April 2021) te gaan deelneem aan die Suid Afrikaanse Kampioenskappe, wat in die Paarl aangebied word. Die skool het die tweee sterkte toegewens vir die naweek. TJ van der Walt (foto links) gaan deelneem aan die onder 18’s 400-meter en Robin-Lee Eland vir die ondder 16’s 100-meter en 200 meter.
Skole en klub-rugby kry die groen-lig van departement ❑
NASIONAAL: Skole en klubrugby het op Donderdag 01 April 2021 baie goeie nuus ontvang , toe SA Rugby toestemming verleen het dat spelers in April 2021 na rugbyvelde kan terugkeer, na 'n jaarlange onderbreking weens die Covid-19-pandemie. Terwyl klubspanne op Maandag 12 April die groenlig kry om weer te mag speel, gaan skole se rugby 'n bietjie later, op Vrydag 23 April, met wedstryde begin. Die besluit is geneem na aanleiding van 'n aankondiging deur die Departement van Basiese Onderwys wat aangedui het dat skole wedstryde en nasionale toernooie sonder toeskouers kan begin, en onderhewig gaan wees aan baie streng gesondheids- en

veiligheidsmaatreëls. Om weer met wedstryde te mag begin, word die veiligheid en welsyn van klub spelers hoog op die prioriteitslys geplaas, en word die klubs versoek om eers met kontakopleiding te begin as alle Covid19-protokolle in plek is, toegepas word en dat elke klub-speler ‘n ‘vier-weeknie-kontak-opleiding’ venstertydperk voltooi het. Skolerugbyspelers kan intussen kontakoefeninge hervat, na ‘n ‘ses weke se nie-kontak-opleiding’ voltooi is, met die oog op dat hulle op die vroegste op Vrydag, 23 April, weer gaan speel. "Ons was verheug om die nuus te ontvang dat skole-rugby weer kan begin soos aangekondig deur die Departement
van Basiese Onderwys, en ons deel in die skole en klubspelers se opgewondenheid om terug te keer na die veld," het Jurie Roux, uitvoerende hoof van SA Rugby, gesê. "Ons sal egter geen risiko's neem nie. Die veiligheid van alle spelers is vir ons van uiterste belang, en as SA Rugby sal ons alles in ons vermoë doen om toe te sien dat skole en klubs die nodige protokolle nakom. Spelers moet in ag neem dat hierdié protokolle gebaseer is op mediese bewyse, met die doel om te verseker dat die spelers se liggame gereed is om die impak van volle kontak te kan hanteer en beserings tot die minimum beperk word.”

Kanker-werker stort haar hart uit na Noord Kaap meisie haar stryd verloor

FOTO’S: Op die foto heel links, is Kaylyn, ‘n meisie (16) van Prieska, oor wie die Facebook inskrywing gemaak is en wie onlangs weens kanker, haar stryd verloor het. Op en in die foto heel regs, is Sonet van Zyl van CANSA, saam met ‘n paar hospitaal personeel. Van wie die name nie bekend is.
▪ Corné van Noordwyk Elf-uur Woensdag oggend snuffel ek vining en kyk gou wat al my vriende en familie mee spog op Facebook. Dis ‘n grappie hier, ‘n ‘mooi-gemaakte’-foto daar, maar skielik tref my oog iets dieper. ‘n Oud kollega van my wat selde iets op Facebook plaas, maar die keer, ‘n lang inskrywing waarvan mens dadelik die diepte daarvan kan aanvoel. Haar naam is Sonet van Zyl. Ek en sy het ‘n paar jaar terug saam gewerk op radio, maar ons paaie het weens werksomstandighede later geskei. Sonet werk met kanker. Sy is ‘n Gemeenskaps Mobiliseerder vir Dienslewering by CANSA in Bloemfontein. Ja, daardié lelike woord wat almal hoop om nooit op hulle oudag ooit te hoef hoor nie. Sonet sien daagliks die dood, maar ook baie keer verhale van hoop. Veral as dit by kanker kom, want daar is baie suksesverhale waarvan sy my altyd van vertel het, van mense wat die siekte oorwin. Sy self is ‘n oorwinaar van kanker. Ongelukkig is haar inskrywing dié keer, gevul met geweldige hartseer. Die terugkyk van ‘n jong lewe, wat onlangs haar stryd teen die siekte verloor
het. Die meisie se naam is Kaylyn. ‘n jong meisie van Prieska, wat se afsterwe met groot skok en hartseer opgeneem is, selfs, vir ‘n werker van CANSA. Sonet skryf: “Op 2 Desember 2020 het ek 'n oproep ontvang van iemand in Prieska. ‘Daar is 'n dogter 16 met breinkanker in Universitas, kan jy asb die ouers ondersteun.’ Min het ek geweet dat dit die oproep was wat my seker die meeste lewens lesse sou bring. My eerste kuier by jou was vining, want jy het geslaap en ek het so pienk gebreide hasie vir jou langs jou bed gelos. So het jy deel van my elke dag bestaan geword. Ek het jou pappa en mamma ontmoet en min geweet dat ons op die ou end ook harts vriende gaan word, wat nie net trane en lag oor jou deel nie, maar ons het soveel ander dinge in gemeen waaroor ons kan lag en gesêls. Ou Wilson het toe ook deel begin word van ons samesyn en eintlik het ek geweet hy was net stout sodat hy elke dag lekker by jou kon gaan kuier. In die hospitaal was dit nie altyd maklik nie en met die COVID-19 krisis het jy ook deel van my vriendinne se harte geword, wat elke dag vir jou bederfies gevat het, maar so het jy ook hulle laat besef hoe kosbaar is tyd, lag en
gesonde kinders. Jou vrolike ‘hello tannie’ en opgewondenheid oor alles het my altyd verstom, want ek het mos geweet, heng jy voel net niks lekker vandag nie maar jy lag. Saam kon ek baie spesiale oomblikke met jou deel soos, jou droom met die rooi Ferrari's. Jou opgewonde histerie oor oom Jaco Jacobs se boeke wat hy spesiaal vir jou geteken het. Sowat 2 weke terug het ek geweet jy wil so graag nog baklei, maar jou lyfie is net so moeg en ek het geweet dat geleende tyd genade tyd was en my hart was seer, maar ek was ook dankbaar vir die geleentheid om die laaste paar maande met jou te kon deel. Jy het my geleer van lag, al wil jy net huil. Jy het my verseker geïnspireer om op te staan vir tieners in onkologieë vir die nodige ondersteuning. Jy het my geleer om opgewonde te raak oor cutex en Mc Donalds. Vanoggend was jou tyd by ons verby en eerlik, ek het my oë uitgetjank, maar daar is trane van vrede en blydskap by. Jy is sonder pyn en gelukkig. Dankie Kaylyn vir 'n ongelooflike tyd saam met jou en ook aan jou ouers wat my sonder vrae deel gemaak het daarvan. Jy is 'n Ledgend.”

Citroen’s updated C3 hatchback has arrived in South Africa and it’s now quirkier than ever! Take a look at specification and pricing details below... Citroen made a comeback in South Africa in 2019 with a focus on 2 core products, the C3 hatchback and the larger C5 family car, both of which are offered in Aircross guise. We had both models on test last year and we love how they set themselves apart stylistically from the rest of the brigade in their respective segments. Easy carrot cake
Ingredients •230ml vegetable oil, plus extra for the tin •100g natural yogurt •4 large eggs •1½ tsp vanilla extract •½ orange, zested •265g self-raising flour •335g light muscovado sugar •2½ tsp ground cinnamon •¼ fresh nutmeg, finely grated •265g carrots (about 3), grated •100g sultanas or raisins •100g walnuts or pecans, roughly chopped (optional) For the icing •100g slightly salted butter, softened •300g icing sugar •100g soft cheese
Method •STEP 1 Heat the oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4. Oil and line the base and sides of two 20cm cake tins with baking parchment. Whisk the oil, yogurt, eggs, vanilla and zest in a jug. Mix the flour, sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg with a good pinch of salt in a bowl. Squeeze any lumps of sugar through your fingers, shaking the bowl a few times to bring the lumps to the surface. •STEP 2 Add the wet ingredients to the dry, along with the carrots, raisins and half the nuts, if using. Mix well to combine, then divide between the tins. •STEP 3 Bake for 25-30 mins or until a skewer inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean. If any wet mixture clings to the skewer, return to the oven for 5 mins, then check again. Leave to cool in the tins.
Deur Danie Cronjé •STEP 4 To make the icing, beat the butter and sugar together until smooth. Add half the soft cheese and beat again, then add the rest (adding it bit by bit prevents the icing from splitting). Remove the cakes from the tins and sandwich together with half the icing. Top with the remaining icing and scatter with the remaining walnuts. Will keep in the fridge for up to five days. Best eaten at room temperature.
