This wedding editorial was a lot of fun to prepare, and we wanted to show all couples that an intimate wedding shoot in the city is possible! And, it’s very elegant. In this editorial, we captured the lovely couple formed by Caro

and Grayson at the glamorous Waldorf Astoria Berlin. It was a day full of joy and memorable moments, from the getting ready moments to a fun evening in the hotel’s bar. Most couples don’t get to see each other up until they walk down the aisle, so we wanted to portray a couple having fun whilst getting dressed for the big day.

In addition, we wanted to capture the vibe of Berlin and were allowed to accompany the newlyweds through the city in the evening. We did have a lot of fun with this city elopement editorial and wanted to show all couples who are thinking about being accompanied on such a day or even maybe wanting to do an actual after wedding shoot, that even without much decor, a photoshoot can be just as chic.

The concept was very minimalist and high-class, with a cool city vibe combined with elegance and luxury. For the choice of colours, we opted for a black-tie theme and added light blue tones here and there.

This intimate elopement shoot features dreamy florals, the beautiful views of the Amalfi coast and a boat ride overlooking Positano at sunset. The shoot was planned for October, a perfect time to visit the Amalfi coast, without the crowds, but with blissful temperatures and rays of sun! The venue was Le Nereidi in Furore which has a panoramic terrace with views

overlooking the sea, a huge pool and even a beautiful church nestled in the courtyard. Organised by Nicola Dixon of Wild Ones, the styling for this shoot was romantic and elegant, featuring stunning florals, a reception table set up on the terrace styled by Love Story Events Italy, and a boat trip along the

famous coastline with Exclusive Cruises. The florist, Sass Flower, created a beautiful floral installation of two pillars for the ceremony spot, with roses in soft blush pinks and peaches. The idea was to surround the couple with lush and beautiful flowers, including the boat which was decorated with both florals and foliage. For the wedding looks, we were inspired by the charming backdrop and picked ultra-romantic outfits. Meg wore a gorgeous two-piece set designed by Halfpenny London from The White Closet, while Trey opted for a smart black Tux suit.

tied the knot in the city of Love, also known as Paris… We had two wedding postponements. We started wedding planning in early 2019 for our wedding in July 2020 in Banff, Canada, at the Fairmont Banff Springs. However, due to Covid-19, the Canadian border remained closed throughout all of 2020, so we postponed it to a year later on August 6th 2021. Unfortunately, the border did not open until August 9th, three days past our 2nd wedding date, so we had no choice but to cancel this date as well. We picked Paris because this city has always been a special place for both Sam and I. We had our engagement photos taken in Paris in 2018, so it felt natural to also have our wedding in the magical city. We always knew we wanted a destination wedding, but also knew that it needed to be in a place that was meaningful to us as a couple. With Covid and the relatively quick turnaround, we knew and understood it would be difficult and stressful for guests to travel across the world for our wedding. We also knew those who truly wanted to, would be there for sure. We couldn’t be more grateful for every single person who made it work, and for those who congratulated and celebrated us from afar. We always wanted a smaller scale wedding, in which we could spend quality time with each of our guests throughout the day and evening, so it was perfect! The Ritz is one of the most beautiful hotels in the world. It’s iconic. We explored many other wedding venue options in Paris and surrounding areas but always came back to the Ritz. It felt right. It’s located in the city centre, with services and accommodations that are unmatched. I could envision us getting married there and having the perfect day, and it truly was!

I had always dreamt of wearing Monique Lhuillier on my wedding day, so that is where I started the search! I knew I wanted a lace or tulle ball gown and ended up torn between the Kristen and the Olympia dresses. The team was so excellent and helped create a custom Olympia for our welcome event with Kristen as my main wedding gown. As for the decorations, I stayed true to myself and what I love! I wanted the day to feel genuine and a representation of us. For example, I always have white flowers at home, so I knew I wanted white flowers at our wedding. Macarons are my favourite dessert, so we had small boxes from La Durée at all guests' place settings. I prefer gold to silver, so we requested gold flatware for the dinner. The list goes on but we thought about all details in this manner, and at the end of the night, the best compliment was how many people said the entire day and every detail reminded them of us. It was so exciting to see all our guests just as surprised and excited as we were. For the welcome event, we organized a boat cruise tour at night on the Seine to explore Paris from the most magical angle. The boat cruise felt like the perfect activity for our guests. Some of them had never been to Paris so we wanted to make it as memorable as possible for them! Every aspect of this opportunity made us so happy, I love sunsets, Sam loves the water and we saw the Eiffel Tower sparkle with our family and friends. It was truly the best way to kick off our wedding week and show our guests around one of our favourite cities. I daydream about this often!

We got married on December 30th. We consider New Year’s Eve to be our anniversary for many of our milestones - we started dating on New Year’s Eve, and Marcus also proposed on New Year’s Eve. We, unfortunately, couldn’t have our venue right on the 31st because it is a sacred holiday in Guatemala and happily settled for the 30th. We saw Convento Santa Clara online and fell in love with it immediately. This venue is one of the reasons why we chose to get married in Guatemala in the first place. It is both grand and rustic, and it has so much character and history all wrapped in one. It was the perfect symbol for the adventure we were embarking on as a married couple with hopes to continue making discoveries together for the rest of our lives. We wanted a fairly small, intimate wedding – we were asking all our guests to travel pretty far, and during the holidays, so our final guest list ended up being around 45 people. With this amount of people, we were able to fill the boutique hotel where our guests quickly became acquainted. We were so lucky to share an incredibly unique experience with them over the week, just as we’d hoped. It was perfect and serene. We loved all of our suppliers. The food made by Fresh and Local was amazing. The flowers by Jose Antonio, la Fleur were breathtaking. Our swarm of photographers and videographers from Auguro Weddings were incredible. The fireworks and pyrotechnics by Eventos Circus provided an unbelievable wow factor. And it was all put together by our wonderful planner - Diana Sciarrillo of I Do, Guatemala. The wedding dress I ended up with is the very first one I saw online that I loved. I remember sending both my mum and best friend a picture of this Pronovias dress the day after Marcus proposed. But then. I totally forgot about it! A year later, I was trying on dresses and I saw this particular one in the store, tried it on, and knew immediately it was the one. My veil was another really important part of my look – and I owe it entirely to my best friend aka Maid Of Honor. I was considering a simpler veil but she convinced me to

Real Wedding go for it and buy a showstopper. She reassured me that I would not regret going a little extra, given the absolutely incredible setting we would be in. And I am so happy I listened to her! I was also thrilled with my hair and makeup – the team did an incredible job. Marcus played with a lot of different trendy ideas for his attire but in the end, it was visions of Gatsby dancing through his head that made him settle on a timeless black tuxedo. As an actor, he has had a lot of suits tailored to fit him but never had anything built from scratch, so he decided to splurge this one time on “fancy clothes”. He enlisted Empire Customs of Toronto to build the tux and “I’ve honestly never loved an outfit more” said Marcus. There were so many special moments during our wedding. We had my dad officiate the wedding. The entire ceremony was so special. Another moment that comes to mind is the moment following the ceremony when we took 30 minutes to sneak away and have some alone time. We were able to look down at the courtyard where the cocktail hour was beginning. Seeing all of our loved ones mingling amongst the lights in this foreign land is a wonderful memory we’ll never forget. Watching it felt very familiar and intimate.

Saskia & Jack had a fairytale outdoor wedding in magical Andalusia...

We always knew we wanted to get married abroad. It was natural for us to choose the south of Spain as this is where Saskia grew up and where we have spent many holidays together. The wedding location was important as we were set on finding a unique and rustic Spanish outdoor venue. We visited five venues with our wonderful wedding planner Tara from We Do and fell in love with the breathtaking palatial villa Las Sirenas. We settled on a date in September 2021, with the hope that the looming covid restrictions would be lifted in time for our guests to travel and that the weather would be milder. Our theme for the wedding fell into place once we found the venue. We wanted to complement and showcase the surroundings of Las Sirenas (which translates to “The Mermaids” in Spanish) therefore, we agreed on an autumnal palette of burnt orange, red, yellow and deep greens and created our own mermaid emblems for the wedding stationery. We chose to use Greek Gods and Goddesses as our table names due to the fantastical creatures featured throughout the venue, including Harpies that guarded the fountain. We decided early into the planning process which aspects were the most important to us and prioritised our budget accordingly, two of which were the photographers and florists. Following our first meeting with the wonderful team at Unique by Roberto Silvosa, they brought to life our vision of utilizing non-traditional flowers, textures and colours for our one-of-a-kind wedding. I chose the classically elegant ‘Sapphire’ gown by Suzanne Neville from Miss Bush in Surrey. I had a vision of the style of dress I wanted to wear on the day but remained open to trying on different styles. However, when I tried on the dress it was certainly love at first try! With its beautiful satin A-line skirt, button detailed corset and elegant neckline, I felt so regal on the day. To showcase the neckline of the dress, I decided to have my long hair in a structured up-do. Finally, I styled it with a two-tiered ribbon veil and my “something blue” Manolo Blahnik shoes. The bridesmaid

dresses were also important to me; the burnt orange colour looked fabulous on all of them, and the multiway style gave them the options. The most special part of the day was seeing the joy on all our guests' faces and watching them react to everything we had planned so meticulously for our special day. After so much planning in the shadows of covid uncertainty, it was emotional to have everyone we loved from near and far join us under the Spanish sun. One of the highlights of the day was our reception entrance with the smoke bombs, which set the tone for the evening party. We danced under the stars to the wonderful Jackie Brown Band who filled the dance floor with their talent. Finally, our top tip for anyone planning a wedding abroad would be to find a wedding planner that understands your vision, Tara from We Do Unique Weddings helped us plan the day of our dreams and put us in touch with our fabulous vendors. She ran the day so seamlessly and everything was so beautifully organised that as a bride, I never had to worry about anything from sunrise to sunset!

exchanged vows in an opulent and historic mansion in Washington DC… We wanted an Autumn wedding and our date, the 10.08.21, held a lot of meaning for us. Walsh was born on the 8th of December and 8 represents the infinity symbol to us - so we thought it was a good sign! We live in Washington DC and wanted a venue nearby. We were searching for a naturally beautiful place, somewhere we didn’t have to elevate with decor and flowers. We were looking for a venue that would speak for itself, and the Larz Anderson House does just that. We had a total of 125 guests and it was a celebration filled with laughter and full-hearted emotions. We had so many people complimenting our ceremony and many expressed how beautiful our vows were and how amazing Reverend Laura was. On the day of, you do get a bit nervous, but once you see your love for the first time, all the fear goes away and all you want to do is have fun! The entire day was magical and we have beautiful memories of it. I have been telling everyone who is engaged to splurge on a photographer to capture their wedding moments because that’s all you have after that day is over. Our photographer, Kir Tuben, was amazing. She went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and she even gave us some sneak peeks about 24 hours after the wedding! To find my dress, I tried on about 50 wedding gowns, and the dress I ended up choosing was the second one I ever tried on at Carine’s Bridal. I had to try on so many to reassure myself I was making the right decision. I finally decided on the Jocelyn Dress designed by the iconic Vera 00 80

Wang. I ended up adding buttons to the back of the dress for a little extra moment. To complete my look, I wore a cathedral veil - I felt beyond beautiful! Music was an important part of our event. We chose a DJ for our wedding as we wanted everyone to dance and sing along to the most popular songs. Another special moment was when my dad surprised us all with his own rendition of “Sweet Caroline” he changed it to “the new richards” and the lyrics also changed so they applied to us and our lives, everyone was hooting and hollering, it was hilarious and an amazing moment! Our first dance was to “I Got You” by Jack Johnson. We were so nervous about dancing in front of people that we ended up taking classes to come up with a first dance, and by our third class, we decided it was “too choreographed” and panicked. We ended up winging it on our wedding day and it was so much fun! Alina & Alejandro eloped to Spain and celebrated their love across the city… We married on October 5th 2021. We wanted to have a warm, summery elopement but didn’t want to deal with excruciating heat or crowds of tourists, so the shoulder season sounded perfect. Also, it was a Tuesday, so we fully enjoyed the city without the chaos. Coincidentally it happened to be the same date on which, two years before, Alina got on a plane for her sabbatical, a trip where the two of us met and fell in love. So, on that day, 2 years ago, a life-changing trip began for the both of us. Spain was a meeting point of our cultures. I grew up by the beach in Peru and Alina is a city girl from Estonia. We thought Barcelona would be the perfect place to celebrate our nuptials. This Spanish city has been close to our hearts due to its colours, energy, and sunshine. When we decided on Barcelona, Palau de la Música Catalana came to mind. Its balcony happened to have all those elements we wanted for our celebration and even more. We didn’t have a specific theme but we wanted to capture the feeling of travelling, exploring, and bonding. We met right before COVID shook the world and our relationship grew and matured during lockdown, thus celebrating our love in an intimate atmosphere felt the most natural thing to do. That’s why we decided to elope to Barcelona and recite our vows there. Since we were getting married in beautiful Spain, we opted on spending our honeymoon there as well. We extended our stay in the little B&B

we booked in Barcelona, and then we headed to Andalucia. Since it was just the two of us, we didn’t feel stressed at all – even when our celebrant got stuck in traffic and taking photos took a bit longer than expected. Everything was exactly as we hoped - it was our day that we planned spontaneously as we pleased, and it was perfect with all its imperfections. Of course, we couldn’t have done it without our wedding planner Valentina from The Stars Inside, who made our vision a reality, and our photographer Olya Kobruseva. It was so emotional. We both had to wipe our tears more than once, but we also shared lots of laughter. Our outfits reflected who we are in our day-to-day lives. They were airy and comfortable enough that we danced through the streets in them! We actually danced to “El Ritmo de mi Corazon” by Gian Marco and Grupo 5, in the park, in front of La Sagrada Familia. Casual passers-by and other Barcelona visitors were our spectators. It felt so good to be so free, and it was fun to share our love with others. My suit was festive, light and summery. I tried it on and loved it - I didn’t have to think twice about it. Alina didn’t want to spend a lot on an elopement dress so she turned to AliExpress for help. She managed to save money on her dress and the money we saved, we invested in the jewellery Alina loved.

LITTLE ABOUT TOMAS DE BRUYNE

MEMORABLE MEHNDI (PREWEDDING) EVENT IN PAKISTAN

Big events have a magical ring to them, however, they come with big responsibilities, a lot of project management and big-scale organizing capacities. Any small mistake that has near to no impact when you design a small intimate wedding, becomes a huge problem when the size increases. And it’s not just the size of the event that can contribute to things unfolding wrongly, but also the number of people involved, the number of materials used and of course, the big challenges that come with satisfying the clients’ needs.

“In my career as a floral designer, I have always guided my work by striving for perfection and working towards a concept. It’s been over 10 years that I have been travelling the globe working for some of the most demanding clients on the planet, and yet this approach to projects has always proved successful for both myself and the people my designs are created for. Working with a concept in mind, envisioning the outcome from the very beginning and then calculating the steps needed to achieve it whilst focusing on delivering emotions, not products, have been key elements in all the professional relationships. The Pakistan Mehndi event was the first time for my team in Pakistan. Travelling for so long, I have learned the lesson that any experience in a new country is defined by the people

you encounter. I have had a very good feeling from the very beginning about the event management team of JS Events, and everything that unfolded from the moment we agreed to work together, was proof that I was right. The challenges of putting such a largescale wedding together were overcome by good communication, openness and the desire on both parts to offer the client the most magical event possible. Technical drawings, mood boards, calculations and lists of all elements involved have been thoroughly provided to the event managing company by the team of Tomas De Bruyne Events, introducing them to a new way of working, where surprises are not surprising, where adaptability is possible and where the client’s story and the message don’t get lost along the way.

HEN IT COMES TO THE DESIGN OF THE EVENT…

the main focus is always delivering a message and adapting to the client’s desires, without losing my signature style. Floral design for any event, and grand events, in particular, is not focused on the things I like or enjoy. It is centred around my client’s needs. Colour plays an important part in my designs and therefore, I always work around a colour palette, making sure that every element fits into the story I create. The Mehndi is a very traditional event in itself and therefore, we picked a more traditional palette. No extravaganza, no avant-garde combinations, no edgy colours were involved. The choice of botanicals becomes a choice of colour and texture and in the particular case of Pakistan, working like this proved to be efficient, as Pakistan is a country where flower imports are banned and I had to rely only on the local production of botanicals. Merging the materials available into shapes and forms with the right intent, working around a colour palette that fits the occasion and following the desired outcome ensured a successful result in the end. The spectacularity of big-scale events lies in much more than just the size and number of flowers or structures involved. People perceive the wow factor, the emotions and the beauty through details just as much as they are amazed by the size. With my team, we worked on every single detail to create a series of elements which cohesively worked perfectly. ” Tomas De Bruyne

LANNING & EXECUTION

Working towards the day… Executing such large-scale projects requires months of planning and that’s exactly what was done for this event. We had numerous meetings with the client after which, it was decided that we would take inspiration from Mughal architecture and give it a modern twist. Once the theme was decided, it all came down to the design. The team at Tomas De Bruyne and Jalal Salahuddin Events worked closely for several weeks to come up with a floral and architectural design that would give the event the grandeur of the Mughal era while adding modern design elements here and there. Two weeks before the event the floral team at Tomas De Bruyne flew down from Europe to start the execution. Hundreds and thousands of flowers were divided into categories and separated based on their type and sizes. The flowers were then coded accordingly and dyed into different shades of pink. Every shade of pink was stored separately so it was easy to identify the flowers. This process took almost 5 days. After this time, work on the actual structure began. A Mehndi event in Pakistan is always a traditional affair. Keeping that in mind, we took inspiration from the Mughal architecture of the 16th and 17th century while adding a modern twist.

Wedding events in Pakistan usually cater to more than 500 guests so weddings are always organized on a large scale here. When we got appointed to do this particular wedding, we knew that no one other than Tomas De Bruyne would be able to create a spectacular floral design. Jalal Salahuddin

The stage design was kept very traditional, with pointed white arches, and accentuated by an exquisite flower wall at the back. Fresh flowers in pink and cream were used in the flower wall and were offset by a curtain of fresh motia flowers in the centre - famous for filling up any space with their sweet fragrance. To enhance the stage further, a collection of 50 gold chandeliers was made into one large piece and hung in the centre of the stage. To make sure that every element was in sync, the seating of the stage was also designed in line with Mughal architecture with the back of the seats forming pointed arches. Another eye-catching feature of the event was the dance floor, inspired by the water lily fountains in the Mughal era. To give it a modern twist, instead of placing water lilies in fountains, they were hung upside down from the ceiling of the dance floor so they could reflect on the marble of the dance floor. The lilies were specially designed and painted gold by craftsmen in Pakistan many days prior to the event. Traditional water lilies mixed with the elliptical design of the ceiling with modern flowers created a spectacular impact and gained the attention of everyone entering the space. Domes were another essential part of the Mughal era. The event had a magnificent dome entrance created with a floral fountain in the middle which was accentuated by traditional candle lamps (Diya) and flowers on the floor, surrouding the fountain.
