As we adapt to a new normal, the world of weddings has taken a few twists and turns. Couples are opting for smaller gatherings and many have picked outdoor locations; we’ve learnt that you can get very creative when it comes to wedding planning.

CHARLOTTE RICARD-QUESADA FROM LA FÊTE SHARES HER TIPS FOR A COVID-19 APPROVED WEDDING 2020 - what a year to remember. It was set to be the year to break-even, the year to develop new partnerships, the year to beat all years. And COVID-19 happened. Initially, I will admit I was positive that things would pass but as the months went by, reality started settling in and I realised this was going to change the face of our industry for a long time. Please consider that rules are constantly changing and that at the time of writing this, I am basing my information and advice on the current UK Government guidelines. Please keep an eye on them or your local guidelines.

DECIDING WHO MAKES THE GUEST LIST

As it currently stands, 15 guests are allowed at a wedding, so make the most of these! By experience, you get to 15 guests very quickly, so make sure to start with the closest and dearest: parents, siblings and bridal party. I’m recommending against older relatives, to protect their health.

DIGITAL CONNECTION

This is the perfect compromise for all those loved ones that you cannot invite, and especially for elderly close family members that just cannot come. There are so many options available now to make sure that your ceremony is streamed to all your guests via Zoom. I would recommend having someone manage it for you.

SPACING BETWEEN SEATS

I would recommend long tables, where seats can easily be spaced out and where the width of the table acts as that 1m distance. Make sure to fill out the spacing with décor, or flowers, so that the separation is clear. But, everything should be lower than eye-level so that your guests can still chat.

WEDDING WEBSITE

This is always handy, but nowadays, even more useful, given the changing times. Make sure that all your guests are aware that you will be posting updates and information regularly here for them. Make sure to let people know what you will be providing in terms of hygiene, masks, etc. or what your guests need to bring for themselves.

GIFTS

I have always been a fan of gifts that are actually useful on the day of the wedding and afterwards, and now, more than ever, I believe that this should be the case! This is your chance to have a selection of beautiful face masks (I would recommend against personalised wedding ones, as your guests won’t be able to use them afterwards) – make them in lovely cotton fabrics that match your colour scheme. Mini antibacterial gel bottles and any other COVID-19 related gadgets are welcome right now.

HYGIENE

This is obviously something that your suppliers will guide you through, especially your planner or your caterer. There are legislations in place, and these, as before, will be changing as we continue to navigate this situation. I would recommend doubling up your “welcome to the wedding” sign as an automatic hand gel dispenser for example. Have a basket of confetti and next to it a mask basket. I would have someone managing these and asking people to pick up the first one and not shuffle through them to pick. la-fete.com

Inspired Dusty pink palettes for weddings have been in fashion for a long while now. We think it’s time for fresher, yet romantic and elegant hues like dusty blues. The initial inspiration behind our colour palette derived from one single flower that captured our attention: the blue peony. This bloom is unbelievably gorgeous, and its tones of blue are exquisite.

The grand ‘Summerplace’ in Hyde Park was the perfect location, and it provided more inspiration for this shoot, in particular the imposing fountain and stunning gardens. The fountain even found its way into one of the cake designs, which was hand-sculpted from chocolate. The understated beauty of the main colour reminds us of the blue skies, cool waters, light and airy fabrics and warm evening summer breezes. The blues in this shoot are carried by tones of greens, and greys with touches of pink and gold. We just loved working with this theme. It’s romantic, yet fresh and it’s elegant with an edgy aura. It’s out of the ordinary, yet it feels so familiar.

Set amid the Tuscan hills, Agriturismo il Rigo plays host to this shoot showcasing the splendid landscapes of the region. The picturesque location, with warm colours of the wheat fields and with Val d’Orcia in the background, create a suggestive ambience, revealing the authentic side of Tuscany. What stands out from the shoot is the array of flowers, cultivated directly on-site. The floral decorations were produced by the farm staff with attention to the seasonal colours.

got married by the Adriatic Sea

e wanted to choose a destination between our two home countries, Russia and the UK, and we thought Dubrovnik would be a perfect choice, as it is incredibly beautiful. Our wedding planner Katarina from Dukata Weddings & Events narrowed down a selection of venues based on what would fit our vision. We fell in love with the 16th century Sponza Palace immediately and we really wanted our reception to have a view over the Adriatic Sea, so we chose the seaside Lounge Terrace at the Royal Hotels & Resort. Our wedding decor was inspired by our engagement in a chateau in Epernay, France. We wanted to incorporate lavender and the elegant and grand feel of the chateau, so our planner used these initial ideas and came up with an overall colour palette. She used various purple and pink shades to create a cohesive look for the day with a soft and classic feel of the French countryside. Our guest list was small, but she was able to create a layout that made everything feel intimate and cosy. We chose long rectangular wooden tables with soft grey table runners, beautiful florals, custom handwritten stationary by Babooche Calligraphy, and plenty of candles to give that romantic glow. We loved all the details that made the day unique, including the custom-made lavender macarons from the pastry shop Mala Truba. When it came to picking out a bridal gown, I really wanted an elegant and timeless dress, and the Caprice dress by Eva Lendel was a perfect choice. With organizing a wedding abroad, it is challenging to make decisions as you are not physically onsite. We had not seen either of the venues prior to booking them, but we had faith in our wedding planner to guide us through the decision-making process. If you are planning a wedding abroad it is important to have a wedding planner who can provide you with advice and suppliers to create a seamless and stress-free day. Also, invest in your photographer. Photos last a lifetime, and we are so pleased we were able to have our day documented so perfectly by Iva & Vedran.

eing from Gran Canaria and having met Edy on the island, we thought it would be the perfect location for our wedding celebration. With my partner Edy Tavares, who is a professional basketball player for Real Madrid, we travel to many places and we could have picked anywhere, but Gran Canaria has a special meaning for us. Our dream had always been to get married in the south, so we did not hesitate when the time came, as we spent so many good moments there. We fell in love with the hotel Lopesan Villa del Conde from the first moment we saw it. It is a magical place for us that we will always remember for the rest of our lives. To plan everything from abroad was not easy, we lived in the United States and it was a bit complicated to start organizing the wedding. But with the great help from The Perfect Wedding Company, everything became easier. Bernadette and her team have done a great job to make our wedding the most beautiful day of our life. Always attentive to anything we were missing. The truth is that we have no words to thank all the great work they have done. We decorated the venue with seasonal flowers, candles, ornaments that matched the theme of the wedding. My color palette was inspired by the color of my dress which was a champagne color. I wanted everything to reflect the tone of my dress. I bought my dress in Cleveland at the Radiant Bride store during our stay there when my husband played for the Cleveland Cavaliers. We started to plan our wedding while we were in the States so it worked out more convenient to buy my dress there. The day was a great outcome, thanks to a wonderful team that made every aspect outstanding. The officiant Gilberto made everything easier, we were at ease during the ceremony and he explained our beautiful love story to all the guests as a magical tale. We also give both the photographer and the videographer a 10 out of 10 for choosing the perfect place to take our individual photoshoot at the iconic Canarian Sand Dunes.

said ‘I Do’ in the splendid Alentejo region in Portugal

e decided to have our wedding in Portugal. This European gem means a lot to both of us as we’ve been going on holiday there since we met, 11 years ago. The wedding took place at the Herdade da Malhadinha Nova in the Alentejo region in Portugal, which is a vineyard, country house and spa. We chose it because we wanted a small intimate wedding venue that was modern but minimalistic, with touches of traditional Portuguese design. Malhadinha is in an idyllic setting. All produce is grown organically, and the food and wine are exquisite. We decided to have a small wedding of 40 with our nearest and dearest. We wanted it to feel like a long weekend away with our closest friends. Having this number meant that we could make everything extra special, and add many details. It also meant our wedding was a weekend celebration, rather than just one day. We actually trusted the venue with all the design and planning of the setting. They did it beautifully. It was very clean, modern, and Scandinavian inspired. Everything was very natural and leafy, just like the venue. Again, we trusted Malhadinha with the decorations. We had lots of fresh flowers and greenery, lots of candles and soft lights outside. For my dress, I visited Along Came Eve in Chester. I always had a clear idea of the style I wanted and fell in love with my dress, Blue by Enzoani, as soon as I saw it. It was exactly what I had imagined. Along Came Eve also tailored it beautifully for me. Hair and makeup were very natural. Wavy hair, with fresh flowers. We got married in summer, so with the heat of the day, I went for a very minimalist look, especially for my makeup. Arranging a wedding abroad is challenging at times because you often have to go with your gut on certain decisions, and you may only get to see or trial something once. We had tasted the food at Malhadinha several times and knew it was outstanding; so we actually didn’t choose our menu and trusted Malhadinha to choose what was seasonal and available. Picking a hair and makeup look was challenging too, not knowing the area as well as you might do in your home country. I would try and be as relaxed as possible when planning a destination wedding. Unless you are prepared to visit several times to make key decisions, you have to go with your instinct for a lot of things or be prepared to make those decisions in one trip. Also, think of your guests for the duration of the stay, and not just on the one day of the wedding.

e were looking for something nearby and we knew that Civil War Ranch would be the perfect location for our wedding day. There are many venues in our area and the ranch is by far the most beautiful at the right price. The owner, Chris Westwood, was super easy to work with and did everything in his power to help us with the preparations. We did make a huge effort to have a budget wedding. This was super easy at Westwood’s Civil War Ranch due to their lending closet. It saved us so much on signs and decorations. We were inspired by the surroundings and we tried to keep the design simple. Our colour palette included light pink and dark green- our favourite colours which happened to complement each other very nicely. We adopted a minimalist style. The inside of the barn didn’t need anything extra, it was perfect as it was. To accent the ceremony on the pond, we wrapped tulle around the wooden posts; it created a beautiful frame for pictures. For the reception, we put decorations on the tables and one sign on a wall, but left the rest of it as it was. I got my dress from David’s Bridal in Springfield, Missouri. It was a classic, modest dress, and made me feel like myself. It was on sale, which was even better, and the team made it fit perfectly. My hair and beauty looks were natural and not too far from how I look normally, with just a pinch of makeup. I wanted to feel like myself on my wedding day, and my husband agreed. Thankfully, we did not have many challenges with organizing this wedding, apart from the virus breakout. Planning a wedding during COVID-19 was as easy as it could be with the help of Civil War Ranch. They provided lots of hand sanitizers, the benches were all at a good distance from each other, and the tables were arranged for a half-in and half-out reception.

e chose Santorini for our elopement wedding as we love the whitewashed buildings mixed with the stunning views of the sea. Our wedding took place at Dana Villas. This location was exactly what we were looking for. It was the full package, for both our wedding and our honeymoon. It was for sure the wedding of our dreams, even if we kept it simple by opting for an elopement wedding. We did not want our day to be extravagant. Being from Scandinavia, colour and decor have to be minimalist. We opted for neutral colours and we made table cards and decorations ourselves by buying flowers from the local shop. For my dress, I wanted to stay true to myself. I bought a second-hand preloved dress; it fit perfectly and I felt simple, yet elegant with it on. Being a hair and makeup artist myself, it was easy for me to create my own look, using organic makeup from Kjaer Weis and luxury natural hair products from Oribe. All I wanted was to be the best version of myself. I chose to create my own veil with a clip-on headband to avoid a big comb ruining my hairstyle. I felt amazing and so comfortable with my look. The biggest challenge for me was to not overrule my husband. I had to remember that this day was as important to him as it was to me. So, I cherished his thoughts and feelings too. It was also difficult not being there ourselves to check everything beforehand but it went surprisingly well. I think the biggest tip is to communicate with your partner. As a couple, you need to be completely honest with each other about expectations and dreams. I think it’s easy as a bride to just make all the decisions, because we’ve been dreaming about this our whole life. However, knowing exactly what your better half likes and dislikes makes the day so much better for everyone.

he moment we walked into Boojum Tree for the first time, we knew it was exactly what we were looking for: lush with greenery and flowers, eclectic and a unique personality. We loved that the ceremony took place outdoors, and the reception, inside the greenhouse, felt like a magical reveal. Boojum was also the only venue we toured that advertised for same-sex couples, as opposed to being an afterthought or something that could be accommodated. We felt comfortable and welcome there from the first day. The location offered an all-inclusive style package that made planning so easy – venue, catering, bar, and DJ all in one. Some of our paper details (like save-the-dates and welcome bag favours) came from independent artists on Etsy – we liked supporting small businesses and it kept costs down. One of the great things about Boojum Tree is that it doesn’t really need any extra décor. You have pathways lined with plants and florals already, and that’s enhanced by the collection of statues and telephone boxes and tchotchkes everywhere. The only thing we did decorate was the gazebo and we added flowers around the cantina. We used bowls of flowers and candlesticks for our centrepieces. We gave The Wildflower a list of what we wanted and they did an amazing job. As for the dress, we both had appointments at Kleinfeld for the same time and the consultants were delighted to work with us to keep it a surprise. They actually blindfolded us and we stood next to each other in our dresses so we could get approval from our group, that was a really special moment for us. Planning from afar can be difficult because when you know you’re only going to be visiting the location a couple of times before the wedding, you have to get all of your inperson appointments coordinated in very small windows of time. We appreciated the communicative vendors who had clear and detailed websites. When we were doing our research, that actually helped us narrow down the list. All of the vendors we ended up working with were fantastic and accommodating, and we appreciated that very much. Our top tip for couples is to have a day-of coordinator!!! We did all our planning ourselves, but our venue came with a day-of coordinator, which we were so grateful for. It was so helpful to know someone was “steering the ship” and that our parents or friends wouldn’t have to step in to run things.

A fairytale barn nestled in the beauty of Vermont; join us as we learn all about the gorgeous wedding venue, Crofter’s Green... What is the story behind Crofter's Green? Before it was Crofter's Green, the property was known as Shéady Acres. When it came time to plan our own wedding, we toured the venue and fell in love with its rustic elegance and woodland charm. With the desire to eventually move back home to Vermont to start a family, coupled with the lofty goal of going into business together, when Shéady Acres was listed for sale, we knew we had to make an offer. Just over a month after our own wedding, we packed up our lives in Colorado, quit our jobs and moved to the area of Vermont known as the Northeast Kingdom. We renamed the property Crofter's Green to reflect our optimism for the business, our recognition of the property's natural beauty, and our desire to share it with our community and beyond. What are some of the wedding packages available at Crofter's Green? Our standard wedding package at Crofter's Green includes three unhurried days on the property, two nights in the cottages, use of the event barn, and exclusive access to our 25 acre property including the trail system, 18-hole disc golf course, streamside fire pit, and outdoor hot tub and grills. Wedding coordination is available as an additional service beyond the base package but is certainly not mandatory. Tell us about the cottages you have? Which do you think is best suited for newlyweds? We have five picturesque cottages on our property, each with its own authentic and distinctive architectural theme. Each cottage is equipped with the comforts and modern conveniences of home, including a small kitchen, WiFi, cable television, on-demand hot water, and thoughtful touches to make our guests feel welcomed. The designs include a Vermont sugarhouse modelled after the traditional sugaring operations that produce maple syrup; a Caribbean bungalow complete with ceramic roof tiles and original artwork from the Greater Antilles, an Asian tea house complete with flying eaves, bamboo flooring and shoji cabinets; an Irish farmhouse with a natural wood exterior and decorative stained glass feature window; and lastly, a stucco adobe cottage modelled after the American southwest which includes an ornamental steer skull and heated Mexican tile flooring.

Sharon Olsen, Manager of the “The 228 in Sterling’ shares with us the history behind this beautiful venue… Tell us the history behind ‘The 228’, how did it all begin? The 228 started around 2013 when an historic property my mother had loved for decades came up for auction. It was a lovely ten-acre parcel, with a wildlife protected area and a pond onsite. We built ‘The 228’ barn and opened in 2016 to weddings and parties. The site was reborn- showcasing the gorgeous pond, pastoral location and at the same time affording couples the opportunity to custom design their own celebrations in our modern facility. We saw a need in the market between grand luxury hotels with standardized packages and “do everything yourself” country barns where all furniture, tents, dishes, linens, décor, were the responsibility of the couple. ‘The 228’ is such a lovely place, what do you think makes it unique? What sets ‘The 228 in Sterling’ apart from other venues is the combination of a beautiful location paired with a genuine love of helping people see their wedding vision realized, whatever that means to them. “Our Venue. Your Vision.” is more than just a slogan. We offer our couples a packet of information to try and simplify the overwhelming process of planning a wedding. We also are very agile in that we can adapt to situational or seasonal changes quickly and clients like that. The pandemic has been horrible and devastating on our couples whose wedding dreams have come crashing down. We have tried to soften that with our understanding and providing alternatives for them. Of all the states what makes Massachusetts the best place for couples to celebrate their love? Massachusetts has magical seasons, history and wonderful people. The weather in the spring is crisp with beautiful flowers emerging and greenery abounding. Summer has flowers in full bloom with days that are sunny and warm with quick moving showers but not oppressively hot or humid like other places in the United States. We have beautiful and distinctive seasons. Fall is like a painter’s brush upon the trees with deep oranges, burgundies and golds across whole “tree walls” of our property.

Falls Creek Farm has always been known as a popular horse show facility in Connecticut. However, when the previous owner, Guy Snowden maintained the property, he chose to expand the estate and build a beautiful stone chapel upon it. Some years later, when Paul and I saw the property, we fell completely in love and just knew we had to turn it into a wedding venue. The breath-taking grounds make a gorgeous backdrop to any wedding celebration. Tell us about your location, why is Connecticut a special place? We’re located in the little lush town of Sterling, Connecticut. The beautiful town boasts of gorgeous greenery and wildlife and we are enveloped in the midst of this. Our property is surrounded by so much verdant forestry that many people have no idea that we’re even here. Explain what a wedding at Falls Creek Farm looks like? Every wedding at Falls Creek Farm is enchanting. Our picturesque setting of meandering earth roads, streams and bridges, make it the ideal place to tie the knot. So many couples have fallen in love, upon their first visit. Tell us about the Equestrian Facility you have on site, can newlyweds enjoy this as well? We have a world-renowned horse show facility that has been in use for several years. If a couple wishes to join in the festivities on any given day, they are more than welcomed too. However, we try not to book horse shows on the same day as weddings, in order to maintain each couple’s exclusivity. How do you ensure all goes to plan on the wedding day? We have a remarkable team of staff that will ensure that your day goes as planned. Why should couples get married in New Mexico? People pick New Mexico and the entire Southwest due to its unbelievable climate, culture, and endless activities. Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s called The Land of Enchantment for a reason. Santa Fe is known around the world for its amazing food and incredible art. Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s a 400-yearold capital, the oldest in North America. Everything from fly fishing to white water rafting, and the outdoor opera, all are within one hour of Santa Fe. The beautiful city has been featured in numerous publications due to its outdoor beauty. Our ranch is set atop the southernmost part of the Glorieta Mesa, adjacent to the Santa Fe National Forest. A 70 mile stretch of breath-taking scenery is visible for the main lodge, which sits delicately on the edge of a cliff. Many happy couples including our children and friends have gotten married at Blame Her Ranch. The name comes from a childhood joke based on our last name, Blamer. A lot of young kids would tease me and say Blame Her vs Blamer. It stuck over the years! Is the location easy to reach? We are an hour and forty-five minutes from Albuquerque International Airport, but there is also a regional airport for small and private jets in Santa Fe. There are paved roads all the way to our main entrance, but we always tell people that this is a very private and exclusive location. You will not be distracted by other hotel guests or strangers of any sort, as the ranch is rented to one couple for their entire stay. Also, there is no need to worry about vendors not wanting to travel, as we can recommend numerous vendors that are able to assist with all types of services. What kind of facilities does the ranch offer? The Main Lodge is over 9,000 sq. ft. with 9 bedrooms and sleeps 24+ guests. There is also a home theatre, game room, outdoor kitchen, pool, gym, cauldron hot tub, and sauna. There are 4 separate venues; the Great Lawn, a Cliffside Gazebo Ceremony Area, the Main Lodge Great Room, and the Knotty Pine Party Barn. We are also adding, in early 2021, an expansion to the barn that will hold over 300 people. The couple can choose which venue they would like to use. In early 2021, we are also adding a beer garden porch that winds down to a fire pit and a separate cantilever deck that is perfect for dinner parties or small private weddings. Finally, we have a golf driving range, ATVs, mountain biking, hiking, and several other activities that meet the needs of any outdoorsy couple. What is the best time of year to get married in New Mexico? Our peak season is from April through to November, the weather is warmer and there is hardly any humidity. But there are some couples who prefer late fall and winter weddings and we can easily accommodate them.

Your venue is one of the finest in the Santa Fe area, what is your secret? Uniqueness. Exclusivity. Privacy. But the real secret is allowing couples to decide the wedding they want. This is our home as well as our rental. Because of this, we have very few limitations so the couple can get what they want in a truly magical location. What is the best part about getting married at the ranch? It’s a personal residence as opposed to a commercial cookie-cutter venue. From getting ready in the Master Bedroom with its one-of-a-kind “Southwestern Hollywood” vanity, to walking down our flagstone aisle through the antique doors of an adobe wall, and dancing all night long under the New Mexico stars into the wee hours of the morning. What isn’t the best part? How soon should a couple book your venue? We recommend 18 months in advance in order to ensure each couple gets the wedding weekend of their choosing. Going to our website and starting the conversation through our contact form is the first step. Randy the ‘Ranch Hand’ will respond to the inquiry within 48 hours. He will be the couple’s personal concierge leading up to their wedding and during their stay. He is not a wedding planner, but he can help steer guests in the right direction with any questions or concerns they may have. This is especially great for out of state and international couples (we have had one couple from Colombia and another from India at the Ranch already). What is the maximum number of guests the ranch can accommodate? We can handle up to 300 wedding day guests and 24+ can stay at the ranch overnight at the Main Lodge. But just recently, we added two Conestoga Wagons where 8 additional guests can stay during the duration of the wedding weekend. Do you have any special wedding packages available for couples? We offer half price on Thursdays and Mondays for free when you book on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday. And as noted above we also allow for a free 4-hour photo session on the day of your choosing (based on availability).

I had been working as a project manager at an events company, when I chose to make a career change. After exploring different avenues , I finally found my niche in wedding coordination; and it’s been a wonderful whirlwind of adventure ever since. We choose the name Dragonfly Services, because not only are they my favourite insect but they also stand for love and transformation. It’s the perfect name, and completely fitting for our company. It is such a blessing, to be able to work with amazing couples and be a part of their beautiful journey’s. Making a dream wedding day or weekend come true really puts a genuine smile on my face; I honestly couldn’t see myself doing anything else. How would you describe your style and technique? We pride ourselves on forming close and personal relationships with all our clients. From the moment the couple calls to inquire, we become a team and throughout the year, grow to become a family. This gives me an excellent baseline to deliver a wedding catered to their style. In terms of technique, our number one priority is to keep everyone happy. We have a highly skilled team, who always have a smile on their face and strive to keep calm, even in crisis situations. My team and I go with the flow and improvise to the best of our ability; relaxing those around us and making for an enjoyable experience. Explain to our readers how a wedding coordinator differs from a wedding planner? This is the question of the decade! As wedding coordinators, we provide couples with the tools to contact and hire vendors, we give them options for rentals and tips on how to save money. We also send them a lovely questionnaire detailing some other aspects they may not have considered. Planners also do many of these things but, the biggest difference would be that planners are very hands-on throughout the whole process, while we tend to work with couples that want to be more involved but would like guidance and suggestions. When the “day of” comes we put all the compiled information together in a small packet and execute the day!

Founder Jane Ackerman, tells us about the origins of Kith & Kin and what makes them different from other event design companies… Tell us a little bit about Kith and Kin? We are a small events design and management company, based in the heart of Vermont. Our name “Kith & Kin” is actually an Old English phrase that describes your friends and family; the very people you want with you for life’s significant events. We are a small dedicated team, devoted to turning your wedding dreams into a reality. Why did you choose to get into the wedding industry? Well, after I finished college, I began working in a number of independent bookstores, but I soon learned that the only way to advance in retail would be to own my own bookstore. After this, I took on a series of jobs at Dartmouth Medical School and was drafted by the school’s fundraising office to run a special project, putting together events in far-flung locations. In the process, I found I had the natural skills for successful fundraising; namely the ability to organise details and the ability to understand people’s priorities. Whilst doing this, I realised that I would rather work for myself, and weddings just seemed to be natural match and also satisfied my desire for creativity. How would you describe your style? One of my greatest pleasures is cultivating relationships with my clients, finding out what is truly important to them and the helping them create the celebration of their dreams. In terms of design, I see weddings as an experience for all the senses and try to delight every one of them. I lean towards using the most beautiful flowers, employing amazing lighting, soft linens, exquisite printed items and other aesthetic elements, to bring the entire piece together. All whilst taking care not to impose my tastes on the clients. My goal is to realise their aesthetic and vision. We love concept of “encore weddings”, can you tell us about any other special services you have available for couples? I have to say, Encore weddings has become the most touching and heartfelt part of Kith & Kin. Mature couples are open and always delighted to have found love again. They know what really matters, aren’t as attached to conventional traditions. However, one of the most useful tools I can offer couples is a highly detailed Timeline of the weekend. The Timeline maps out at what time and where every element will take place, and who will be there to manage it. Once the couple has had a chance to review every item, I email the final version to the vendors, the wedding party and the families the week of the wedding. On the Day-of, my team and I, have hard copies on hand for reference. Having the Timeline takes a lot of the anxiety away for everyone involved.

Wedding photographer Sarah Salvas shares with us her journey to photography and her best moments… How long have you been a photographer/ filmmaker and how did you get into the wedding industry? I have been a photographer/filmmaker for about 7 years. Although, I didn’t break into the wedding industry until about 2017. I started second shooting with a few friends of mine who are photographers. Then in 2019 I began to book weddings on my own. How would you describe your approach as a photographer? Everyone’s wedding environment is unique to them and I want to make sure it gets captured that way. I have a very natural, candid style and I really love to focus on the moments that happen rather than trying to create them. I will always give the couple some prompts and then capture what happens from there. What do you enjoy most about being a wedding filmmaker/photographer? I love connecting with new people & making new friends. To me, my couples are not just clients and I truly want to get to know them. Photographers spend the entire wedding day with the couple so it’s really important that the relationship is a good one. I also love getting to travel to so many new places and venues. Do you have any unique services available for weddings? I offer both elopement and full day wedding packages at a variety of rates. I have small elopement packages for those couples that may not want to do a big wedding but still want to get some beautiful memories at a special location. And then the bigger wedding packages are great for those who don’t want to miss anything from their day with all of their guests. What’s the greatest moment you’ve had as a wedding filmmaker/photographer? There are so many but a recent one was while shooting an elopement here in Vermont. We went all around the town of Stowe and ended the shoot at a beautiful waterfall, which the couple climbed up in all of their wedding attire. I got in the water at the base of the falls and shot them up in the middle, it was absolutely magical.

For destination weddings, it took some time to adjust to the new situation. Big weddings have been postponed and I advised my clients early this year to reschedule their weddings to 2021. As you can imagine, locations and vendors such as photographers were quickly booked for next year, so we had to react promptly. I was able to postpone all of my events with my selected vendors at no extra cost.

WITH THE EASING OF RESTRICTIONS, WHAT WILL WEDDINGS LOOK LIKE?

We will try to hold as many parts of the wedding programme outside. Of course, this is not always achievable, for example, with winter weddings or poor weather. In these cases, clients will need bigger indoor spaces for their celebrations. On the other hand, bridal couples will have to accept if some guests do not wish to attend their wedding due to the risk of a COVID-19 infection. The planner’s job will become even more important, as the wedding organisation will have to include more options such as dates, locations or new seating plans.

WHAT WILL YOU DO DIFFERENTLY?

I am very lucky because I work with well-selected vendors who are very flexible and professional. We will choose locations more carefully, considering that we need more space than originally required, and outdoor options will be preferred. We will ask couples to double-check their guest lists regarding high-risk individuals and they’ll need a backup if restrictions in party sizes occur. For destination weddings, the couple should make sure to take out travel cancellation insurance.

WHICH ARE THE CURRENT WEDDING RESTRICTIONS IN INDIA?

Weddings are not currently permitted, due to the current restrictions imposed by the Government of India and state authorities. We’re constantly monitoring the developments so that we can plan accordingly.

TELL US WHAT WILL CHANGE IN THE ERA OF SOCIAL DISTANCING? The entire industry will be a lot more hygiene-conscious. Guests will be a lot more fastidious about hygiene levels and only those establishments that provide the highest standards will see an increase in business.

WHAT WILL YOU DO DIFFERENTLY?

If you’ve had a look at our website or spoken to us then you’ll know our values emanate from our hearts, not our wallets! Guests’ health and safety have always been and always will be our priority but, post Coronavirus, we’re going to be a lot more proactive. For example, we’re going to ensure that we have sufficient staff (“concierges”) on hand to look after the elderly guests. And, we’ll be looking into having rapid access to private ambulances in case a guest falls ill.

We have an office in England, an office in Copenhagen, and also a presence in Gibraltar. We both travel to Denmark and Gibraltar frequently depending on which weddings we have going on where, and what our own family commitments are. HOW ARE WEDDINGS DIFFERENT IN THE ERA OF SOCIAL DISTANCING?

All of the ceremony rooms have been assessed for size and capacity with the floor space, so this means that rather than a set number of guests that would usually be allowed, it has been changed per venue accordingly so social distancing is possible. We have other venues that are allowing us free use of their gardens instead of the ceremony rooms. And we have put into place with all venues the possibility of zoom calls. There are also slightly different ceremony days and times as there is additional cleaning, and waiting areas are closed, and the official documentation day is on an appointment basis rather than open.

AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING DIFFERENTLY?

As a company, we pride ourselves on being different, and we believe we have a service that no one else in the industry can provide. We offer all locations in Denmark and Gibraltar –which are nearly 200 places! We also work extended hours and weekends for couples who struggle with time zones or have busy schedules and need extra help. WHERE ARE YOU BASED?

I live in my home town - the glorious city of Edinburgh, capital of Scotland. It is a beautiful historic city, everyone falls in love with it. If you haven’t been, you must! I work all over the country though, from the Scottish/English border just a few miles south, to the very northern islands of my ancestors - Shetland. There is nowhere I won’t go.

DO YOU HAVE A SIGNATURE STYLE?

I don’t really, but if I did it would be more of a feeling than an obvious look. The weddings I work on are classic and stylish, sometimes modern and artistic, other times elegant and romantic. The important thing is that you can see the couple in all areas and details. We tell the stories of our clients through a marriage of meaningful and memorable details, with timeless design and style. And generally, a lot of fantastic food and drink, and plenty of dancing! We also strive to work with the best suppliers Scotland has to offer, and those who share our standards both in service but also in sustainability.

THE KEY TO A SUCCESSFUL WEDDING AND PLANNING PROCESS?

Timing is everything. I am a firm believer that the entire process should be enjoyable and as stress-free as possible. Therefore, building a realistic timeline and breaking up planning and booking into manageable chunks makes all the difference. Having a crazy detailed timeline on the day for all suppliers to work off of is also key. Know your priorities and make sure they are the focus. This is why it is great to have a wedding planner there at least for the day-of. You need someone you can trust to make sure the things

that are important to you happen and someone who will tell you to let the less important things slide if weather/ time/traffic accident/pandemic demands it.

HOW IMPORTANT IS THE WEDDING BUDGET?

Very important. Deciding on the size of your wedding and the budget are an absolute first priority (once you’ve celebrated your engagement!) as it will determine every element. You need to think about where the money will come from and how long you will want to save for, or how much of your savings you want to spend.

HOW WILL WEDDINGS BE DIFFERENT IN THE ERA OF SOCIAL DISTANCING?

The main changes I have noticed over the last few months are a rise in elopements, and intimate weddings with fewer than 30 guests. I also see an increasing trend in celebrating with a small ceremony followed by a blow-out party at some point when restrictions lessen, free of the restraining traditions of a classic reception. It might be difficult or even impossible to have a conventional 200-person wedding for the foreseeable future, but couples have the opportunity to celebrate in a way that is true to themselves. This is the time to change the format of weddings, to work outside the box, and focus on meaningful and memorable details. scarlettandbell.com

Diana Vartanova, an award-winning photographer and journalist, shares with us her passion for photography 1. Tell us a bit about yourself. My name is Diana, I was born in Ukraine. I’ve been taking pictures my whole life. When I was a child I was absolutely addicted to a cabinet with my mom’s archive of prints and I spent hours looking at them. I moved to the UK when I was 16. I was driven by curiosity and desire to study journalism in the country where it was born. My natural passion for photography led me to photo-journalism as my key subject. I am sure that if one is surrounded by art in any form, he is bound to be kind, loving and intelligent. This is why every time I shoot weddings, I try to produce an art piece that will make a couple love each other even more than before when looking at the photographs. 2. Where are you based? The world is my home, and I travel all the time, but the short answer is my team and I live and create in London. 3. What do you love about your job? Spending time with people, in the most sincere moments of their lives, sharing their happiness, laughter, hope and love with them is extremely special. 4. Do you cover weddings abroad? Yes, I absolutely love destination weddings and elopements. My favourite parts of the world are Italy, Portugal, USA, Bali, Iceland. I’ve taken pictures already in 29 countries, and planning to broaden my photography map next year even more. 5. Do you have a signature style? I am sure I do, but I prefer my work to speak for me. 6. What makes a good picture stand out from the rest? The work behind it. People think there is an «eye», a special talent to take photographs, and I agree there is. But it is not as important as working and thinking out each photoshoot - to know exactly what you are going to do and what the final result should look like. And I promise, the more you invest in each photograph, the more beautiful it becomes. 7. What do you love about working in the wedding industry? Flowy white dresses, fantastically combined flower composition, heart-breaking locations and an opportunity to meet people who see, create and multiply beauty. 8. Where do you get your inspiration from? There is a Ukrainian word that is difficult to literally translate, which explains the way I get inspired. The closest I know is «to get an eyeful of something». To me it means looking at art of different kinds: fine art, fashion, the work of other photographers (doesn’t matter if they are famous or not), florists, interior designers. Everything. Just always looking with open eyes and trying to remember the atmosphere. And then suddenly you recognise a feeling or an atmosphere in an absolutely different situation in your life or when

shooting a couple and naturally it brings your memory back through the camera. 9. How are weddings changing in the era of social distancing? I am in love with intimate weddings and the week-day wedding trend. 10. What are you doing differently? I am a kinaesthetic, I love touching and feeling people, and now I need to precisely describe poses when I am working with couples. Meet the Photography duo Iva & Vedran A look inside the world of Iva & Vedran, the destination wedding photographers based in Croatia 1. Tell us a bit about your company. We are a husband and wife, traveling, wedding photography duo, happy to have the opportunity in our lives to do what we love. Taking photos of people in love and creating a visual legacy is our biggest passion and huge privilege simply because we feel challenged to interpret each wedding story in a memorable way. We believe photography should depict modern love in its best forms: natural, unique and brave. 2. Where are you based? We are based in the city of Varazdin in North Croatia, but we are primarily destination wedding photographers providing our services in Croatia and all over the world, wherever our clients take us. 3. What do you love about your job? When you turn your passion into a profession, you love everything about your job. It is the same in our case. Six years ago, we turned photography, our hobby, into our profession. By doing that we have opened so many unimaginable doors and met so many incredible people who motivated us to be not only better photographers but better humans as well. Witnessing so many sincere love stories and catching the essence of each and every one of them is what inspires us the most. 4. Why would you call yourself a destination wedding photographer? We consider ourselves destination wedding photographers just because we don’t feel like we have any borders. From the start of our wedding photography adventure we have been dreaming about traveling to locations we’ve never been before, exploring new wedding cultures, meeting different people and just seeking new experiences. Luckily, dreams do come true and we believe there are more to come. 5. What makes a good picture stand out from the rest? All basic elements such as light and composition (which can vary in style) aside, the essence of a good photograph lies in its deeper meaning. The photo doesn’t even have to be technically perfect as long as it holds an emotional component that triggers your feelings. Weddings are always challenging in that sense. There are many emotional moments and we think a wedding photographer should be focused on their meaning because those moments will stay forever. 6. What do you love about working in the wedding industry? The wedding industry changes rapidly and following new trends can be quite intense but in our opinion that’s the only way you can improve your work and make progress. In some way, it seems like the wedding industry today has its own unavoidable flow which pushes you further. Basically, it’s good if you accept the nature of the flow and just go with it. 7. Where do you get your inspiration from? Most of our inspiration comes directly from our clients. Listening to their stories before the wedding day and understanding what’s important to them, makes us comfortable enough to create their

story in a remarkable way. We try to work with a personal point of view and that helps us feel the vibe of each wedding. 8. How will weddings and your job change in the era of social distancing? It is hard to predict anything that might come in the future of the wedding industry, but we truly hope photographers will find their way with more courage during this uncertain time. We are all facing unknown circumstances and we should adapt in order to move on. We think good communication with clients can make us more confident with our work during this time. 9. How do you think weddings will change? Whoever said Love is not cancelled, is completely right. How did it all start for you?

I actually started off as an entertainer performing at weddings. Over time I attended hundreds of weddings and I saw many wedding celebrants and soon realised that my true destiny was to become a singing celebrant!

Most celebrants have a specific style. How would you describe yours?

I am a very expressive person. My ceremonies stand out because of the happy, easy and relaxed way I perform them. Each ceremony is a rollercoaster ride of emotions, from laughter to tears of joy. The guests and the couple are entertained and touched at the same time.

What should a couple consider when searching for their celebrant?

They should consider what the essence of their ceremony should be and base their choice on their personal preferences. Therefore, it is very important to me that the first meeting is free of charge and non-binding for either party. It is imperative that there is a connection between the celebrant and the couple.

What are some creative wedding trends you’ve seen lately, and what are your favourites?

I like the ever- changing fashion styles, like boho, chic etc. Amazingly though, traditional styles have always remained my favourite as well. From the ceremonial perspective, I appreciate the colourful mosaic of possibilities available these days.

What is the most important lesson you’ve learnt as a celebrant, that you’d pass on to others getting started in this profession?

Be yourself, and don't take yourself too seriously. Be open to the couples and their ideas and most of all, be kind, patient and put love at the centre of your ceremonies. weddingman.ch

Officiating weddings came as a complete surprise to me! Life has a way of directing us in places we can’t even imagine. After a decade marketing career, I started an event planning business which I enjoyed for many years, helping plan events, weddings and receptions. But something deeper was calling and so began a spiritual journey, searching, studying, and steadily getting my ministerial credits, not yet sure where it would all lead. Suddenly I found myself assisting my parents through their illnesses into their end of lives. That three year journey changed my work and my life forever. With it came a clear calling for my ministry: to guide and support people through their end of life and to help uplift the paradigm of dying. Newly ordained, committed to my new found life’s work, I began closing out my event planning business and as I was helping a couple finalize an intimate wedding, they asked If I could possibly officiate their wedding, for they couldn’t think of anyone better for them. What a lovely compliment. How could I say no? So I literally turned my hat that day from wedding planner to minister! I loved it and was a natural at it and have been doing them ever since now for 16 years, averaging 50 weddings per year. I’m still passionate about my end of life work, writing speaking and teaching. And, the weddings are a nice companion to helping folks navigate and celebrate life and its many passages.

What aspects are included in your service? I offer two basic options: A Sweet and Simple and a Classic Ceremony with options to add additional services. I also help to include readings and special ceremonies reflecting their heritage, their different faiths and things that are special to them. As a full-service minister with an event planning background, I help coordinate and keep my eye on every detail from the time the guests arrive until we process the couple out in celebration!

What do you think couples should think about when looking for their celebrants? It is wise to hire someone who is experienced and professional. Look for someone who has a track record of doing what they promised and will be there for you through changes or challenges. Also, someone who can facilitate a well-organised rehearsal; it makes all the difference on wedding day!

What sets you apart from other celebrants? Experience is an obvious one! I’ve been doing this for many years as a full-time profession. Each one of my couples is very special to me and I want to make a difference in their life together as a married couple. So, I bring in coaching and guiding all through the ceremony and planning time.
