Ed's Letter alentine’s Day falls on the 14th of February, and the weeks leading up to it are full of romantic gestures and sentimental musings. The origin of this celebration of love is a little murky, but it is believed that Valentine’s Day is celebrated in honour of Saint Valentine. One legend claims that Saint Valentine was a Roman priest who married young couples in secret when Emperor Claudius II ordered all young, single men to become soldiers instead. Another legend claims that the tradition comes from a love letter signed ‘from your Valentine’, posted by Saint Valentine when he was imprisoned. Whatever the origin, February 14th is widely celebrated, with thousands of greeting cards sent between loved ones each year.

Welcome to our Valentine’s issue, where we have featured five epic love stories (pages 67-92), two whimsically styled photoshoots (pages 52 and 64) and a Valentine’s inspiration board (page 50). Valentine’s Day is the third most popular day of the year for proposals (following Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve) and so, naturally, the theme of the day marries beautifully with weddings. As well as celebrating love in all forms, we are excited to see travel take off again as couples begin to arrange their honeymoon plans. Our feature, ‘The Return of The Honeymoon’ (pages 104 - 113) is full of our favourite honeymoon hotspots to spark your wanderlust. We have also teamed up with SPL Villas to give one lucky couple the chance to win a seven-night honeymoon in a luxury villa in Cyprus – head to page 118 for details on how to enter. We get the low-down on your bridal beauty bag essentials from Charlotte Tilbury and Bobbi Brown make up artist, Josie Pennington… Whether you have chosen to book a professional makeup artist or you plan on doing your own makeup on your special day, this five step guide of must have bridal products will help you fill your beauty bag. Maybe you just want to know the best products that will help you achieve a flawless finish for all the events surrounding the big day. Sit back, relax and read on to find out how you can pull out all the stops… STEP ONE BASE: It’s no secret that good makeup starts with good skincare, and something I stress to all my brides is to make sure they have a good skincare routine in the lead up to the big day. We also want to make sure our base makeup lasts flawlessly all day, from ceremony to reception, my favourite moisturiser to use is the Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base, £46.50 for 50ml pot. A multivitamin primer, it instantly smooths, plumps, and preps skin for makeup application with healthy hydration. It’s full makeup prep in one step, blending the performance of a primer with the cushion of a moisturiser. STEP TWO GLOW: Now, who doesn’t want a bridal glow on the big day? There’s nothing more gorgeous than skin that looks healthy and lit from within. My favourite way to achieve this look is with the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter, £34. Applying it is like adding a digital filter to a photograph. It instantly lifts your complexion, erases imperfections and imparts a glowing radiance. I like to pop this along the tops of the cheek bones, bridge of the nose and above the Cupid’s bow.

STEP THREE CONTOUR: A quick flush of rose or soft pink can really bring life back into the face. When choosing your bronzer, aim for one that is at most two shades deeper than your skin tone. Anything darker you may run the risk of looking too artificial. One of my favourites and also a great one for brides who want a quick and easy, allin-one product, is the NARS Bronzer and Blush Duo in Orgasm/Laguna, £31. It’s The perfect sun kissed glow with a natural looking flush of colour. STEP FOUR EYES: Define your eyes with a waterproof yet blendable liner. Try to stay away from black (unless your eye look demands different), as it can look a little harsh around the eye area. I like to opt for a brown instead. A great one to use is the Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel liner in Chocolate Shimmer, £22. It offers the precision of liquid liner with the ease of a gel-based formula, all with eight hours of waterproof, sweat and humidity resistant wear. STEP FIVE LIPS: Your lipstick serves as the finishing touch to your makeup look, so this is a staple in your bridal beauty bag. But, given that there are so many formulas to choose from (matte, satin, gloss, etc.), it can be difficult to choose just one. My all-time favourite lipstick for brides has got to be the be the iconic Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Matte Revolution Lipstick, £25. The nude-pink lipstick is perfect for brides as it enhances the natural hue of your lips so it's unique to your skin tone and natural lip colour and looks beautiful on everyone.

TELL US ABOUT DUKE + DEXTER’S BRAND STORY The brand was founded in 2015 by Archie Hubert and it started with a focus on velvet slippers, which was quite a niche concept at the time. He wanted to elevate velvet slippers to make them cool, contemporary and not just for formal events. Over the last six years, the brand has developed and expanded, but our shoes are still designed in London and made in a family-run factory in Sheffield. New styles have since been added, such as sneakers and boots, as well as the bespoke design service. The brand has worked with leading influencers and photographers, who have all ended up shaping the brand that it is today. 38

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE DUKE + DEXTER TO FIRST-TIME BUYERS? I’d say that we’re quite adventurous, we take risks and push boundaries within our designs. We’re authentic, sophisticated and create our shoes with a purpose. We really focus on the quality and durability of every style. Duke + Dexter is primarily targeted at professional males between 25 to 45, but we also create bespoke shoes for females that go down to a size five. HOW DOES THE DUKE + DEXTER BESPOKE SERVICE WORK? The process starts with a one-on-one consultation via phone or email, after which I will send the digital mock-up design. We would then work together until they are happy with the design. If there is embroidery required, then that design will be sent to our embroiderers in Sheffield who will bring the design to life. Alternatively, if the design is hand-painted, the shoes will be sent to me and I will paint directly onto the shoes. HOW FAR IN ADVANCE DO CUSTOMERS NEED TO GET IN TOUCH BEFORE THEY NEED THE SHOES? We say the lead time is around 3 to 4 weeks for any bespoke shoe. For something like a wedding, I would recommend getting in touch before that so that they can try on a pair for the fit first. Before the pandemic, clients would come to visit us in London from all over the

When the customer receives the shoes, they don’t need to do anything to the painting as it is already protected. They can protect the suede part with a protector of their choice.

WHERE CAN PEOPLE GO TO SEE THE SHOES IN PERSON? Duke + Dexter are stocked in different places around the world, but in London the main store is Harrods. For different collections, we are sometimes stocked in Selfridges and places like Levels in Dubai. The main way people can try on the shoes is to order a non-bespoke pair online, try it on and send it back free of charge, then move forward with the bespoke order. WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF CUSTOMISATION AND SHOES? With custom pairs, loafers are still the main shoe we customise as it tends to be where clients lean towards. We also customise our sneakers, which is currently our most popular line. We can customise the fabric, colours, trims and soles, and add embroidery or hand-painted designs anywhere on the shoe. For example, we had someone who had their wedding date on the inside of the tongue so it was not seen by anyone but they know that it is there. In terms of colours, we have a broad range, which we are keen to expand on.

IS SUSTAINABILITY A FOCUS FOR DUKE + DEXTER? Over the last few months, we as a brand have scrutinised every element of our supply line to understand where the different components of our shoes are sourced from. We want to ensure that every element is sustainably sourced and limits any negative impact on the environment. All of our bespoke shoes are made to order and the main collection of shoes are ordered weekly in small amounts, which means that there is hardly any leftover. They are also made in our UK factory to minimise our carbon footprint and we offset carbon emissions for our deliveries to the customers. We are still learning and moving in that direction. DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE MEMORY OF MAKING A BESPOKE SHOE? I’d probably say my favourite bespoke commission was for a groom who wanted a galaxy of stars to cover the entire pair of shoes. He wanted their wedding logo painted on the back with dates on the heels and words written on the soles of the shoes. Every inch of the shoe was covered in personalised artwork which was wonderful to see. Every tiny part of it had been thought through and it represented him and his wife beautifully. He now wears them every year on his anniversary, which goes to show that Duke + Dexter provide more than just a pair of shoes. WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS THE MOST POPULAR BESPOKE REQUEST? It does vary, but I’d say dates and initials on the heels are very popular at the moment because it allows for that personalisation without it being too garish next to their subdued outfit. We have also had lots of wedding logos and family crests, which might also feature on their invitations and around their wedding. WHERE DO YOU SOURCE THE INSPIRATION IF COUPLES ARE UNSURE OF WHERE TO START? I will ask them a little bit about themselves and get an idea of their wedding theme. Then I start showing them past pairs that have been created to give them a really good idea of what they might look like. I will give them a range of more subtle designs and monograms as well as more colourful designs. They usually start to get their sense of direction from those examples and I will guide them until they get an idea they are happy with. WHAT KIND OF PAINT DO YOU USE AND ARE THERE ANY SHOE CARE INSTRUCTIONS? We use very specific acrylic leather paint on the shoes which

What to include in your wedding invitations SAVE THE DATES Send out save the dates around nine to 12 months before your wedding. The save the date card will allow people time to keep the day free, let them know where the venue is and who is invited, so they can start to think about travel, accommodation and childcare if they need to. INVITATIONS The invitation is the most obvious thing you will need to send out, outlining the timings, venue, date and who is invited to the wedding day and evening reception. RSVP CARDS Along with the invitation, you will need to include an RSVP card for guests to send back to you letting you know if they can attend. If you have a menu option for guests to choose from you should include space for them to add their choice and, whether you have a multi-choice menu or not, a space for them to let you know if they have any dietary requirements. EXTRA INFORMATION CARDS If you have lots of information to tell your guests, to keep your invitation looking beautiful without filling the whole

design with text, include the additional information in a separate information card. You could include up to three cards, depending on what you want to include. Think directions, a map, parking details, arrival time, accommodation options, dress code, gift list, a note on photography, etc. MENU CARDS If you need guests to select their meal choice ahead of the day itself, you might need to include menu cards with the invitations, too. Alternatively, you could have an individual card displayed at each place setting or a couple of menus per table so that guests know what they will be sampling on the day. ON THE DAY ITEMS You will need to wait for your RSVPs to come back before you can order any on-the-day stationery items. When you have a confirmed guests list you can think about ordering an order of the day (to let everyone know the timings and ensure guests don’t miss out on crucial parts of the day), an order of service, table plan, table numbers and place name cards (to help everyone find their seats). Plus any other little extras you might like, such as tags for favours in a matching design, a card box sign or printed copies of your readings to display after the ceremony. After the big day, don’t forget to send thank you cards to the guests that attend your day, too.

tories work in speeches in many contexts, but they are at the heart of a good wedding speech. Stories are a part of our DNA as humans. We are drawn to them. We can’t get enough of them. So, if you want to engage your audience instead of putting them to sleep, if you’d like to keep their interest so much so that they forget about their smartphones, story is the vehicle to drive your speech and to keep your audience experiencing an unforgettable ride. How can you spice up your storytelling and ramp up your skills? Practice using the following tips as you create your stories and watch for the delightful effect on family and friends at the wedding…

Planning 1 PRACTICE RETELLING SCENES As you retell memorable scenes from films or TV, you will practice dialogue and start to pick up storytelling techniques. This includes learning which elements are best to keep in the story and which are unnecessary and don’t drive the action forward, thus slowing down the pace. 2 START IN THE ACTION If you begin in the action and give just enough context to keep your audience from becoming confused, you’ll pique the interest of your listeners. Remember, just like a Hollywood film, you can jump back and forth in time with your story. Start with a dramatic scene and go back to fill in the details. Or try using something like, “later, I would look back on this moment as ____,” filling in the blank with your own appropriate sentiment. 3 MYSTERY Beginning with a mystery and peppering more mysteries throughout your story creates intrigue, as your listeners want to know what happens and begin guessing at the answer in their own minds. A great start is with something like, “Let me make a confession…” 4 CREATE A LOOP, OR MULTIPLE LOOPS This is the technique of leaving a mystery unsolved before you introduce another one. You can even leave a loop open until the end and give your audience the satisfaction of solving the mystery at the end. Just remember to eventually close the loop. 5 LEAVE THEM WANTING MORE Do your best to cut out any non-pertinent details that don’t set up your story or drive the action forward. If you feel like you might be adding too much detail to a specific aspect of your story, you probably are. 6 ANALOGY OR METAPHOR Using analogies, metaphors and similes can bring humour and interest to your stories. For example, describing when he was looked at by a bear comedian Jim Gaffigan said, “I was sunburned so I probably looked like a giant land salmon.” 7 VOICES AND ACCENTS Experiment with dialects and vocal differences of high or low, raspy or clear, different ages, louder or softer voices, whispers, slower draw… the only limit is your own creativity! 8 DIALOGUE DIFFERENTIATION Instead of just telling us what your characters have said, become those characters as they have a dialogue with each other. You can utilise the spatial physicality of characters as they talk with each other by shifting slightly where you stand and where you are looking. 9 THE POWER OF THE PAUSE When speaking, a second can feel like ten, and ten seconds can feel like a minute. Accordingly, pausing can feel unnatural and uncomfortable, but it can also be a welcome gift to your audience, as it gives them time to absorb what you have said. Pauses can also

be used to emphasise information, phrases or words in a powerful way. 10 FOLLOW THE PIXAR FORMULA The PIXAR story formula, made popular by the elements contained in PIXAR films, is as follows: • Once upon a time • Every day • But one day • Because of that • Because of that (add additional “because of that’s” as necessary) • Until finally • Ever since then Practice your stories according to these elements, and you might be surprised to find out how many effective stories follow this formula. and when any of them are evoked, this can trigger audience members in powerful ways. To practice this skill, take someone on a sensory walk. This could be a description of a delicious recipe you made, a nature walk, or anything that includes multiple of the five senses. Just be careful with this powerful story element, as there are some things you may not want to bring up with your listeners (insert dog poop and other cringe-worthy sensorial triggers). 12 PRACTICE IN YOUR EVERYDAY LIFE “My day was fine” Can turn into, “you wouldn’t believe what happened today!” followed by an interesting story. Enjoy the preparation and giving your speech at the wedding. A good speech will leave your audience reminiscing as your stories remind them of other stories. ALL WHITE Becky and Fraser first met on the white isle, and it was back on Ibiza several years later that Fraser got down on one knee. “It was magical,” smiles Becky, “we were in Amante in Ibiza, walking along the beach after dinner. I turned around and Fraser proposed. It was lovely to celebrate our engagement for the rest of the holiday.” THIRD TIME LUCKY Owing to the pandemic, the couple’s original 2020 date was postponed to the following summer. Then, as restrictions eased, they pushed it back one final three weeks in order to have the day of their dreams. “We loved the idea of getting married in Ibiza, but logistically it was so much easier to do it in the UK. The idea of a country house appealed to both of us and we fell in love with Northbrook Park – the grounds are beautiful and we were blown away by the orangery.” FINDING THE ONE Or two, as the tale goes for this lucky bride. “I was very open to different styles and designers but after trying on a few, I didn’t think I’d find the one,” Becky reveals. “That’s when I picked out an Enzoani stockist, finally tried on the dress I chose and I knew it was the one as soon as I put it on.” “This was in 2019 and after postponing our date, I worried I might not love my dress anymore. I came across dressmaker AvaMia Couture who designed a bespoke gown with me. Then, when I tried on my original Enzoani dress, I fell in love all over again, so I ended up wearing both! It was really special to know I had designed one of them.” Groom Fraser looked dapper in a tuxedo with a white jacket, contrasting his groomsmen dressed in black. Echoing the colourways, Becky’s bridesmaids

stunned in ivory single-shoulder dresses with long trains. MADE YOU BLUSH Complementing their venue’s dreamily romantic interiors, the couple styled their celebration in a palette of blush, ivory and natural greenery. “My florist created a gorgeous asymmetric arch to adorn the fireplace in our ceremony room and pool onto the floor. It certainly added the wow factor! We loved the crystal chandeliers and large French windows. The orangery was perfect for our reception – it was naturally lit with a glass roof and opened into the walled garden. We added blush and gold charger plates, blush tumbler glasses, gold cutlery and it all came together perfectly. The dreams I’d planned in my head finally became a reality.” PARTY TIME After a harpist played through the ceremony and drinks reception, the couple set the tone for the night to come as they entered the reception banquet to Beyonce’s ‘End of Time’. With the celebrations in full swing, the Function Band took to the white-carpeted stage. “We ended up on the dance floor between every course! It was exactly what we’d envisioned,” the couple grin. JET, SET, GO In a twist on tradition, Becky and Fraser actually enjoyed their Maldives honeymoon before the big day. WH

POPPING THE QUESTION White painted villas that climb up cliffsides, azure waters that glisten with yachts – there’s a lot to love about Italy’s Amalfi Coast, and for groom Jamie, it was the perfect place to propose. “We’d been there for four days and Jamie organised a limousine to collect us from the hotel and take us to the most beautiful cliffside hotel on the coast, we had a candlelit dinner looking out to sea, watching the sunset. It was very secluded and romantic. Jamie proposed when we were alone on the rooftop – it was amazing as the locals on their own rooftop terraces all applauded when I said yes!” SETTING THE SCENE For many couples, choosing the venue comes with a handful of venue visits before they land upon the one. But for this couple, the search went further: “We must have seen about 50 venues,” Danielle reveals. “I searched high and low to find the perfect location, having always dreamed of a summer wedding in Cheshire. We wanted to have over 200 guests, so that ruled a lot of venues out. Wrenbury Hall was the last venue we saw and I instantly fell in love, it took my breath away. When I saw the orangery, I cried!” TAKE A VOW “Walking down the aisle with my parents on either side to the one and only Jonny Turgel singing was just magical. I wish I could relive that moment 1,000 times,” grins Danielle. “There were 200 people in the

room and yet you could hear a pin drop when he sings – it’s mesmerising. We chose Jewish music to be more meaningful for us.” THE FIRST DANCE Danielle and Jamie shared their first dance to ‘Go the Distance’ from the film, Hercules. “It’s one of our favourite songs from our favourite film. We rehearsed and performed a 45-second dance routine. We got through it without falling over, so that’s a win for us,” the couple laugh. “We decided to spend the week before the wedding apart to make the day even more special, so I was worried about forgetting the routine having not practiced for a week!” Function Band then took to the stage to keep the dance floor full all night long. HONEYMOON HEAVEN After their coastal proposal, it only made sense that the newlyweds would indulge in some vitamin sea for their honeymoon. “We had a beautiful minimoon on Mykonos and Santorini. We’re also planning on going further afield next year when travel is simpler, we’re hoping for Australia!” WH

‘Tis the Season RING, RING Roberto popped the question to bride-to-be Barbara in the idyllic setting of Venice. “We were on vacation and it was very romantic,” recalls the bride. WHEN IN ITALY Echoing their dreamy Italian proposal, the couple opted to tie the knot in Italy too, this time in the picturesque city of Trieste. “We know Italy well and Trieste is a magical city between the sea and the mountains. We love Christmas too, so we chose the 25th December for our wedding day!” Roberto and Barbara invited a party of six to celebrate their micro wedding with them. AISLE STYLE Like many brides, Roberta had that all-important moment, when tears sprang to her eyes as she tried on her Peter Langner gown for the very first time. The groom complemented his bride’s classic style in a smart black tuxedo with bowtie, while the groomsmen and bridesmaids offered a dramatic contrast dressed entirely in black with red bouquets and boutonnieres. MERRY AND LIGHT This couple’s Christmas theme had an oh-so luxurious and sophisticated flair, with their dramatic Italian venue completely illuminated, and an enormous, elegant tree framing the intimate banquet table. HOME FROM HOME Having holidayed at the Monte Rei Resort for years, for Sophie and Duncan, it was the natural choice when choosing the perfect venue in which to tie the knot. “It’s like a second home to us,” they smile. “Almost everyone we invited was able to make it out to Portugal to join us, we celebrated with almost 60 guests. Getting married in Portugal was the best decision we made, despite the pandemic making it touch and go for a while. I’m so glad we persevered and made it happen. It was the perfect day, a dream come true.” PERFECT PREPARATIONS The wedding morning is often overlooked as big day plans come together, and yet a tranquil and pampering time can make all the difference to how you remember your wedding day. For bride Sophie, it was bliss: “We were ready ahead of schedule so everything was super relaxed, sipping Champagne on the terrace listening to our band rehearsing at the venue, just across the lake. I felt beautiful and comfortable in my dress, it was easy to move and dance in. I fell in love with it and it made me feel amazing.” Sophie stunned in an elegant design by Berta, complemented by classic Jimmy Choo heels and a gorgeous bridal headpiece and earrings from Jennifer Behr. THE ‘I DO’s With the groom’s mother also a bishop, she was able to officiate their ceremony. “The service was very special and so very personal,”

Sophie gushes, “it made me very emotional.” An acoustic guitarist joined the couple and their family and friends to lend a soft and romantic atmosphere to their vows, before the couple turned the celebrations up with a saxophonist kicking off their cocktail hour in sophisticated style. ALFRESCO FESTIVITIES The beauty of their Portugal venue was the sun-kissed weather and gorgeous lake, which meant the couple could enjoy their entire wedding experience alfresco. “We loved having the whole day outdoors, the fountains in the courtyard and views across the lake and green were amazing,” Sophie recommends. “Our wedding colours were white and green to complement our natural surroundings.” The couple made the most of their location and celebration, inviting guests to a laid-back barbecue the day before the wedding too. “It was lovely to spend so much time with our friends and family over our wedding weekend.” WH

Indian Summer AISLE STYLE “I loved my dress and plan to try and squeeze into it every anniversary,” the bride laughs. “I was lucky that the dress worked well for a summer wedding even though I’d originally had a winter wedding in mind. I’d always imagined choosing a saree or sash style dress, or a cape. We found the one in Confetti and Lace and my mum gifted it to me, which was incredibly generous. My mum and mother-in-law were there with me.” SEASONS CHANGE After shortlisting their venue hunt with a focus on no corkage venues, the couple found the one at Northbrook Park. “After seeing the ceremony room, the peacocks, the orangery, the bridal suite and guest accommodation, we couldn’t leave without securing a date! We’d originally planned a December wedding with a winter wonderland theme – all open log fires and a beautiful Christmas tree. But after that was postponed, we simply couldn’t wait, and swapped to a summer wedding, so our mulled wine became Aperol Spritz!” GOING FOR GOLD Stephanie and Alex transformed the classic interiors of Northbrook Park to add a distinctive Bollywood

flair. “It was important to me to honour my late father and celebrate my Indian heritage on the day,” Stephanie explains. “Our florist was incredibly helpful to create a look evocative of India, using Northanger Abbey roses mixed with hot pink zinnia, frothy astilbe and homegrown dahlia and amaranthus. She finished my bouquet with sari ribbon to bring in the Bollywood vibes. We were blown away by the flowers.” The bride embraced her creativity, hand-painting henna designs onto jars and bottles that became vases and favours, while friends created stunning turquoise table runners from saree fabric. “Then we painted everything that didn’t move gold,” laughs Stephanie. “It was glam and glistened beautifully in the sunshine. Our neon light added fun to the décor too!” PICTURE THIS Many couples speak of the importance of a good relationship with your photographer and for Stephanie and Alex, that certainly rang true. “Martin and I actually danced together from the age of five,” the bride reveals. “Once I found out he was a photographer, I knew he had to SUPPLIERS: be involved in our day. 'I Do', But Not For 22 Planning a Wedding with supply chain issues in a Post-Pandemic World…

ven before the Covid pandemic, we always told potential guests they should be planning 12-18 months in advance. But, even today in a post-pandemic world, we get requests for weddings with only three to four months lead time. This is engagement season and we hate to pour cold water on those couples looking to get married in 2022, but the facts are, here at Blame Her Ranch, we only have one weekend left during our spring, summer, and fall peak season and that date is only available because somebody had to cancel. Blame Her Ranch, outside of Santa Fe, NM, is a high-end and elite venue that can service up to 250 day guests and has sleeping accommodations, including Glamping, for 44 guests. For those couples insisting on getting married in 2022, we can only offer mid-week weddings this year. But, what is just as important for any newly engaged couple is that 2023 is filling up quickly. We are already 70% full for peak weekends. Obviously, less advantageous venues like hotel ballrooms offer more flexibility and can accommodate as many as two or three weddings a day. However, this does not line up with couples wanting premiere locations and destination weddings. While we have been lucky, many venues and wedding vendors have been hit with increasing costs, staffing shortfalls, and again, availability issues. So while you might find the perfect venue, make sure that everything from the caterer to the florist can operate on your special day and can provide the necessary supplies they need to make your wedding special. As with other areas in the supply chain, costs are skyrocketing for everyone in the wedding industry and unfortunately those costs are needing to be passed onto the happy couple. One of our suppliers increased their rates by 20% compared to last year. This is without a doubt a problem that will affect all wedding budgets going forward.

The supply of goods is low, but the demand for wedding venues and services is as high as it has ever been. While Blame Her Ranch is already recognised as one of the best venues in America and was recently awarded one of the top 18 ranch sites in America by The Knot, we are trying to do our best for couples in 2022 and beyond. For example, we will not raise our rates until late this year and that increase will only be 5%. Others are increasing their rates as much as 25% or greater. We are also offering couples a 10% discount for booking quickly and early! Also, we have reduced the cost of our single-day option and even have the “quickie” wedding for five hours at our Cliffside Ceremony and Knotty Pine Barn. Weddings have always been a stressful time, but this post-pandemic world is without question increasing the stress level for everyone. So, it’s up to venues like BHR to creatively think outside the box to help couples get the wedding of their dreams at the time they want and at the price they can afford. Happy Hunting! Honeymooner's guide to Newfoundland and Labrador Emily Olsen finds the most magical hotels and hotspots in one of the worlds most wild corners

Long after your visit, you’ll continue to dream of Newfoundland and Labrador. The magic of Canada’s most easterly province will stay with you – senses forever ignited with tangled memories of some of the world’s most extraordinary landscapes: jagged fjords, thick verdant forests, dramatic mountains and icebergs. This is no ordinary honeymoon, and that thought might strike you as soon as you touch down in St. John’s. You might wonder how it took only five hours to reach somewhere that feels otherworldly: a parallel universe where skies are bigger, locals are friendlier, stars are brighter, and the air so much fresher. This might even feel daunting - because you know you’re both about to start an adventure that will stay with you forever. So, you decided to swap pina coladas and a sun lounger for hiking boots and a GPS. Did you hesitate at that decision? Maybe. Did your in-laws raise their eyebrows when you said you were off on an adventure honeymoon? Perhaps. But now you’re here and you simply can’t believe your eyes. Perhaps you sit at breakfast dipping a teaspoon into a sticky pot of cloudberry jam – it’s delicious and you immediately need to tell people back home what you’ve just discovered. But what even is a cloudberry? Organising a hire-car, plotting out the best road trip route and packing a suitcase layered with waterproofs and fleeces might threaten to take some of the magic away. But these are the necessities, and the technicalities of the real world are soon forgotten once you land. Even when you fall victim to ‘four seasons in one day’ or discover you’ve been holding your map upside down an hour into your road trip, every wrong turn and each raincloud just become accidental yet charming additions to a patchwork of wild and windswept coasts, dewy forests, crackling fires and tumblers of local whiskey. Every soaked jumper, forgotten umbrella and mistaken detour are somehow enchanting, lending themselves to new discoveries and tales of adventure, both clumsy and captivating. Memories of pastel fishing towns, wildflower meadows, snow-dusted mountains and fierce ocean swells will stay with you for years to come, and maybe, just maybe, you’ll both return to Newfoundland and Labrador, to discover fresh routes, forest trails and newly opened guesthouses. Buddymoon The new honeymoon trend, where your family and friends join you too…

ant to know the hottest new wedding trend? It is called “Buddymooning”. That is right! A traditional honeymoon, but with family and close friends. I know what you are thinking, that sounds horrible or not very romantic. But couples today have gone beyond the classic three-day destination wedding and want to enjoy or keep the party going with intimate friends and family. Many couples getting married today are older and think the idea of bringing others can still be romantic, but can also turn into a great family reunion. Even the rich and famous are getting into Buddymooning! Without question, Paris Hilton’s wedding last year was probably the most spectacular and well-covered event in the wedding industry. It started as a destination wedding with hundreds of guests and multiple wardrobe changes, but as soon as the ceremony and banquet were over, Paris Hilton, her parents, in-laws, nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters all jetted-off to Bora Bora. As you might expect, there were countless group activities enjoyed by all, but also undisclosed alone romantic time for Paris and her new husband Carter. This all brings us to two important rules if you are considering a Buddymoon… RULE #1 You need to book a resort or private home that can accommodate your group, but also has multiple pre-arranged activities to keep the mood lively and fun. A private home like Blame Her Ranch that can accommodate the Buddymoon group is ideal because it provides real privacy and exclusivity. Let’s face it, you are already stretching it with the whole concept of a Buddymoon and you don’t need a bunch of resort strangers hanging around. Things like Native-American cooking classes, portrait paintings, massages for everyone, plus dry saunas and cauldron hottubbing in-between. Because of BHR’s rustic ranch setting, many couples also enjoy group fly fishing (guaranteed to catch a fish), skeet shooting, horseback riding and even a small, but fun cattle herding. Many times guests have their own ideas and events planned and in our case, Lauren has been successful in accomplishing basically anything the couple and group want to do. And, don’t forget about food. Santa Fe is a “foody” town with hundreds of private chefs who have come to BHR and put on food extravaganzas each night during the Buddymoon. RULE #2 While Buddymooning by its definition is a group honeymoon, don’t forget to carve out “private” time for the couple to get away. Again, in our case, Lauren is the facilitator and can recommend several ideas to inject a little romance into your Buddymoon. How about a private dinner out on the edge of our cliffs overlooking the Gonzales Valley? Or, a night in one of our Conestoga wagons which has been romantically decorated and offers champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. Fun and romantic, right? Finally, Buddymooning doesn’t require you to immediately jump on a plane after your wedding. Take the stress out and stay put at your venue or its surrounding areas and enjoy a wide variety of activities and interests with your friends and family.
